Lyrics:
doin it right, on a weird night
(vrs):
between 3 and 6 when my big ideas hit
green freeways, green freeways, driving fast, at last
its hard to be fake with nobody else awake
I can live how I live baby, hanging hard, working hard
(ch):
In the weird part of the night, yeah
thats the time I feel alright, yeah
all the bull s—- goes away, oh yeah
then it comes back during the day, yeah
doin it right, on a weird night
(vrs 2):
between 3 and 6 when no one can f—- your s—-
so in touch, thats the best, send that girl a risky text
thrill seeking, gland squeezing, give your life meaning
that spot on the clock, when the world can’t throw you off
(ch again)
(insane throat slap vocal run)
(ch again)

Fact: There are barely two months until the election and Trump is still juggling staff.

Also, back to the taco talk: It’s been over 15 years since I went to Mexico and I still remember how ridiculously delicious my first ever genuine Mexican taco was.

Three actual stories today:

Hillary emailed someone at the state department long after she worked there.

Bill used his pension to pay staff, which is totally legal.

Doug asked Huma for a diplomatic passport for the rescue mission in North Korea…AND WAS DENIED.

Received a call tonight, from a Trump supporter dialing for Get Out the Vote (a real caller, not a robo-call):

Hi, my name is *** and I’d like you to know that Wayne LaPierre and the National Rifle Association want you to think about who will protect your gun rights

Click.

Didn’t want to sit through the derp to explain the Liberal Gun Club to him, which doesn’t have the wingnuts in the NRA.

Also, back to the taco talk: It’s been over 15 years since I went to Mexico and I still remember how ridiculously delicious my first ever genuine Mexican taco was.

Austin and San Antonio have been barking at each other for years over who invented the Breakfast Taco (ridiculously popular here, which generally contains three of the following components: eggs, potatoes, refried beans, sausage, chorizo, bacon, grilled onions, spinach, ‘shrooms, rajas, either cheddar or queso fresco cheese, plus salsa, green or red).

Here’s a fun link from The Atlantic

theatlantic.com

They cost anywhere from a buck and a half to three dollars. If they’re more, you are getting fucked.

But Taco Trucks are a different breed altogether. They started out as what were generously referred to as “Roach Coaches” and would visit construction sites around to vend their wares, which were decidedly low end.

Then came the trailers, about 12 years ago, which catapulted casual eating in this town on its ear. One of the first was Flip Happy, an old Airstream on South Congress, which served absolutely killer bee euro-style crepes, both sweet and savory.

But for tacos, the ne plus ultra of the trailer delivered delicacy was Torchy’s.

torchystacos.com

There is just no way you can buy these kind of reviews:

foursquare.com

They’ve built a couple of brick and mortar kitchens, but the trailer, about 8 blocks southeast of the Chez A_B, is still my favorite. It has been there for 10 years. When that Halfbreed Foreign Born Secret Muslim Communist Bastard Temporarily Residing In Our Gottdam White House President visited Austin last spring for SXSW, he made a temporary stop at a brick and mortar store farther south on S 1st street, where the employees had no warning.

Doors open up, a bunch of guys with wires in their ears and bulges under their suit coats walk in, nod to each other, and the President walks in. Squeals! Selfies! He orders a Democrat, an Independent, and a Republican, and chows down before he gets to the Long Center for his interview with Evan Williams. I think he paid 12 bucks for the food and dropped a Benjamin as a tip.

Show-off wealth redistributing Libtard.

Just because we were discussing the NDA Trump makes his volunteers sign:

$1M lawsuit dismissed against Plano couple who gave 1-star Yelp review to pet-sitting company

The Duchouquettes hired Prestigious Pets in October 2015 to watch their two dogs and betta fish, Gordy, while they were on vacation, according to court documents.

In the Yelp review, the Duchouquettes said their betta fish’s tank looked murky in a video feed, the billing was messed up and the company tried to charge to return the keys to the family.

“The one star is for potentially harming my fish, otherwise it would have been 2 stars,” the review stated.

The family said in the review that the care for their dogs “was fine.”

Prestigious Pets said the Duchouquettes violated a nondisparagement clause in their contract by posting the review, and that their statements were false and defamatory.

Austin is heaven for taco trucks. The one at the corner of Braker and Lamar just has some sort of magical cheese that makes it heavenly.

The aforementioned Torchy’s and Tacodeli are both scrumptious as well.

Taco trucks? Likely the nearest one to me is in Denver, two hundred miles away.

We have “the burrito lady,” a woman who does door-to-door delivery, though we haven’t seen her for about five months.

I came into work today expecting a whole lot of people calling to see if they could cancel their reservations with no penalties and was not disappointed. All present forecasts have this storm going well south of us and the worst we can expect is a lot of rain and some moderate winds, but people think if they sound panicked on the phone, we’ll let them out of their reservations because their Saturday’s gonna be soggy.

It looks like everything west of Apalachicola will be pretty much unaffected. Hurricanes. Small ones are tight and local. A lot of rain underneath them but fifty miles away? Meh.

And good night.

Was explaining that to one of our in-house guests who’s presently scheduled to leave on Saturday. She’s scared shitless that her little rental car’s going to get blown off the road if she doesn’t leave tomorrow night. I had to keep assuring her that by the time it gets here, it will be no worse than the occasional strong thunderstorm that rolls through.

Now she’s just a rain maker with 30-40 m.p.h. winds. Wherever the big rain bands passes over there will be almost a foot of rain in nearly no time at all. And the low pressure center will make its way up the eastern seaboard pulling in all the moisture around it. Water water water, from the air

Ugh. Weather.

You know, back in 2012, we had to content ourselves with jokes about dogs on car roofs or Willard having all the emotional complexity of a Commodore 64. We had to be creative with our jokes.

Now here we are, it’s 2016, and the Trump campaign is just giving us a new joke every 12-24 hours.

But the Trump people have never heard of the Streisand effect. Does Melanie Trump really want to be deposed regarding the inconsistencies in her story about when/how she received her green card?

What I suspect is that the Gawker ruling will be used as leverage, i.e. “You think we won’t bankrupt your asses?!” Get Daily Mail to settle, which will include an apology for running the libelous story that is totally not true because the Trumps say so.

Bloomberg: Putin Blasts Trump and Clinton for ‘Shock’ Campaign Tactics

“They’re both using shock tactics, just each in their own way,” the Russian president said in an interview. “I don’t think they are setting the best example,” he added.

Not a lawyer, but I don’t see how a state Circuit Court in Maryland has jurisdiction in a lawsuit against The Daily Mail.

The purpose of that is mentioned in the article Ming posted:

Steve Klepper, an appellate lawyer for the Baltimore law firm Kramon & Graham, said the inclusion of a blogger in the suit indicated legal maneuvering.

He told the Guardian: “Anytime you have a filing that adds a minor in-state defendant, it’s a flag that they were joined to prevent removal to federal court. And as we know, Donald Trump has not been having been the best luck in federal court recently.”

Klepper pointed to a Maryland defamation statute that might provide a basis for Melania Trump’s suit. It reads: “A single or married woman whose character or reputation for chastity is defamed by any person may maintain an action against that person.”

One of my favorite places used to be The Pancake Haus—looks like the Northgate one isn’t there any more, but the Edmonds one from Yelp:

They still have the German Pancake, which is basically an apple pie with crèpes as bottom and top crusts. Now I want one again. At least a 60 mile round trip, though!

ETA: I stand corrected: 82 miles.

Best view of the storm is now out of the Valdosta, Georgia radar:

radar.weather.gov

Pretty impressive.

Valdosta radar has a good picture now, as the whole storm is in its area.

Hermine is now a Tropical Storm:

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
———————————————
At 800 AM EDT (1200 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Hermine was
located inland inland over southern Georgia near latitude 31.2
North, longitude 82.9 West. Hermine is moving toward the
north-northeast near 14 mph (22 km/h) and this motion is expected to
continue today and Saturday. On the forecast track, the center of
Hermine will continue to move across southeastern Georgia today,
move across the coastal Carolinas tonight and move offshore of the
North Carolina coast on Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 60 mph (95 km/h) with
higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast while the center of
Hermine remains over land. Some re-strengthening is expected after
the center moves offshore of the North Carolina coast on Saturday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km)
from the center. Recently reported wind gusts include 46 mph (74
km/h) at Brunswick, Georgia, and St. Augustine, Florida.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb (29.21 inches).

NEXRAD view of Tropical Storm Hermine, from Valdosta, Georgia:

wunderground.com

The storm is moving toward the coast.

NEXRAD radar allows you to put overlays on the radar picture, to include embedded thunderstorms, lighting strikes, warning areas, &c. I find the information more useful than the National Weather Service radar.

Mexico’s president baited Trump into changing his speech with tweet about border wall

“A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.” So said Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton during this year’s DNC, and it turns out she was being prophetic.

<….>

At any rate, leaders of other countries are likely taking notes right now about just how easy it is to manipulate Trump by challenging his manhood — it will be interesting to see how he reacts when, let’s say, Vladimir Putin chides him for not having the guts to lob a nuclear missile at Iceland.

If true, it also suggests how lousy Trump is as a negotiator. EPN basically played him for a fool.

On the other hand, Trump’s Wall is a McGuffin for his campaign, a symbol which I doubt even Trump expects could be built for real. Chances are, EPN and DJT never talked about the Wall seriously, but EPN knew he could get a rise out of Trump by needling him on Twitter. It worked spectacularly well. Trump went ballistic.

FORMER MODELS FOR DONALD TRUMP’S AGENCY SAY THEY VIOLATED IMMIGRATION RULES AND WORKED ILLEGALLY

Now 31 years old and out of the modeling business, Blais once appeared in various publications, including Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar, and she posed wearing the designs of such fashion luminaries as Gianfranco Ferré, Dolce & Gabbana, and Jean Paul Gaultier. Her modeling career began when she was 16 and spanned numerous top-name agencies across four continents. She became a vocal advocate for models and appeared in a 2011 documentary, Girl Model, that explored the darker side of the industry. In a recent interview, she said her experience with Trump’s firm stood out: “Honestly, they are the most crooked agency I’ve ever worked for, and I’ve worked for quite a few.”

Yes. We are in the direct path, a bit toward the south of the centreline.

eclipse2017.org

Our town is not shown on the map (Broadwater).

However, our community is listed in the information as to duration, &c.

eclipse2017.org

You’ll have to forgive me, because our spare rooms are already spoken for: A member of the Mensa group in Omaha, and my wife’s brother (who is a high school science teacher).

On the other hand, our tiny village does have a bed-and-breakfast. My wife maintains the Website if you are interested in coming out in the middle of nowhere to see a total eclipse.

I was in Virginia Beach for the last one: I bought filters for my camera, went out on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel to photograph it, and it clouded up and I got nothing. Maybe better luck this time.

‘Morning, Lizards,

ICYMI: The Rude Pundit’s take on Trump’s immigration speech…

I have seen madness, dear, sweet Americans. I have looked into the eyes of men who have ripped off their clothes, rolled around in mud and shit, and then howled at the sky. I have wrestled with a drunk who was trying to set me on fire because he thought my legs were too hairy (they’re not). I have confronted religious zealots who screamed and spit in my face and threatened me with hellfire for the crime of keeping a path clear so women could get into a completely legal family planning clinic. I have visited institutions for the mentally ill, and I have stayed at music festival campgrounds. Oh, yes, I have seen insanity in individual and mass forms.

So when I watched Republican presidential candidate and overfed orangutan Donald Trump delivering his long-awaited address on immigration, I knew that I was watching the kind of frothing madness that generally gets street preachers arrested before they assault someone or enrage passersby into punching them in their goddamn faces.

After the embarrassment of Trump’s quickie with Mexico’s utterly disgraced president, after both of them stood there and pretended like they were comrades in arms on immigration, after Trump said he didn’t talk about who is paying for his border wall, and after President Pena Nieto tweeted that he said Mexico wasn’t paying for any fucking wall, Trump went out to an adoring crowd of savages in Arizona, his idiot horde, his people, and, as they held their breaths for the long-suspected “pivot” and “softening” on immigration, they heard their candidate proclaim that he was their mad dog godhead and would be as batshit crazy as ever. It was less a speech and more a “fuck you” to anyone who thought Trump might moderate. “Suck my bright white dick,” he said. “I am the same racist shit-shoveler I’ve been the entire campaign.”

I don’t know why, but for some reason I’ve got this urge for tacos. But the damn truck is nowhere to be found on my corner. Thanks, Obama.

Moreover, it is difficult to obtain lodging in Casper (due to the coal and oil industry renting out a majority of the hotel space - I tried for a trip there and wound up sleeping on a friend’s couch).

If Casper is your destination, you should reserve early.

Most of these people never were middle class—they were just passing, like my family did when I was growing up. Thanks to the people they vote in, that’s becoming harder and harder to do. So more of the same only worse is the answer, right?

They certainly won’t advance by voting for a party that thinks making some form of higher education whether that be academic or vocational more affordable for all is a form of snobbery nor a party that wastes its damned time on being paranoid about transgendered people going to the bathroom.

Moreover, it is difficult to obtain lodging in Casper (due to the coal and oil industry renting out a majority of the hotel space - I tried for a trip there and wound up sleeping on a friend’s couch).

If Casper is your destination, you should reserve early.

Indeed. I sent an email to my son and suggested he ask his firm’s travel office to make the arrangements. I figure they’ll have better luck than I would from China.

The whole ‘who is NATO fighting?/we created enemies just so we can enrich the arms industry’ reminds me of Bill Hick’s standup in the nineties when he trashed Bush Sr for the Gulf War, pointing out the US had enthusiastically armed Iraq in its war with Iran in the previous decade.
Alot of what he said was on point, but I can’t help but feel he’d still be saying stuff like that if he were still alive. And I love Hicks, but it’s weird to have to admit that it is well that he died before he could truly make an utter ass of himself.

Gotta disagree. Trump’s exactly what the GOP core supporters have been craving all along. He’s letting their inner bigot be vocal and proud. The professionals, however, know this means trouble because their agenda is based on exploiting that bigotry, just by more subtle measures. Trump’s bringing all this to the forefront, and he’s showing who and what the GOP is all about.

But the GOP has been letting on about it’s bigotry for a while now - whether it’s the attacks on women (health care/birth control/abortion), minorities (voter ID, immigration, crime/BLM), religious groups (Muslims), etc.

I agree with this. Trump is just a louder version of what the GOP has been saying for years. It’s not really disagreement ideologically. It’s how he’s doing it. If Trump were more subtle about being a bigot and water carrier for the very wealthy, they would be be find with him but he’s not subtle.

We should probably make lodging arrangements now, come to think of it. I’m not sure how practical it will be to drive up from Denver for the eclipse, then drive back.

For my Eclipse Experience, I found a travel agency in Denver (they only do astronomy tours) that offers a one-day tour from Denver. The bad news: it’s leaving at 6:00 am to arrive a couple of hours before the eclipse actually begins — plenty of wiggle room in case there are Clouds. (Good news for me: from the hotel I’ll be staying in.)

So you’d be able to do it if you don’t mind the early start.

Trump’s only relationship with the auto industry was that he ordered a fleet of customized Cadillacs back in the late ‘80’s. He expected GM to give him a “great deal” on the cars because of the “advertising value.”

I was working at Cadillac at the time and although we had ad posters of various celebrities posing with their vehicles, Donald Trump was conspicuous by his absence.

Trump stiffed GM after they made the customized Caddies and then he didn’t pay for them.

There was a place nearby that had Pittsburgh style sandwiches (Italian bread with french fries, meat, and coleslaw, don’t judge, it’s really really good). Anyhow they closed down. Means I have to go to actual Pittsburgh for my fix and to Primantis which would be great if I didn’t live that far from Pittsburgh. Another place I liked to frequent during my time at DOI was a Banh Mi place. It was a healthy walk from my office but man it was so worth it. If you’ve never had a Banh Mi before, it’s so worth it, a typically spicy protein ( I prefer pork) with a good slaw on French bread. As far as Southeast Asian food is concerned, Thai is my all time favorite but Vietnamese is pretty good. It’s more than just Pho.

What really endeared me to her is one day I was driving up the block and there she was as usual making her delicious food. In a blizzard!!! Her tent was collapsed from the wind and the snow was flying and therw she was pressing tortillas. I gave her a very enthusiastic thumbs up. I see debt as something that happens when you have a large country. VB has posted it before but there’s a really stupid meme about how we “managed” just fine in 1913 before the federal income tax. The thing is- we didn’t. College was incredibly rare in those days and even high school graduation wasn’t guaranteed. I don’t think any of my great grandparents graduated high school even and furthermore, the U.S. military that wingnuts want to be so huge was very small compared to what it is now. The fact of the matter is we are a big country and we’re going to have things like debt. I’d honestly take conservatives more seriously on the debt if they were willing to concede that tax increases may be necessary to reduce it but nope their officials are dummies who sign Grover Norquist’s stupid pledges. And as much as I hate to cut spending on social programs, I’d hate a left wing Grover Norquist holding Democratic Congressional officials hostage the same way Grover does.

Yep roads sucked in those days. Honestly, what I see that unites moonbats, wingnuts, and libertarian bros is a total lack of understanding for the fact that our ancestors had a much harder time than we did and a lack of appreciation for understanding how that process was gotten. It being Labor Day weekend, I can’t help but to think of my favorite bumper sticker- The Unions: The folks that brought you the weekend. I think about the past a lot since I’m my family’s historian so I often imagine my ancestors lives and how they would probably laugh at the people who insist that America’s “Golden age” was before federal income tax. Yeah maybe if your name was Rockefeller or Carnegie but the rest of us, nope.

What I see as a Virginian is this. Trump struggled mightily in our population centers. Clinton did quite well. Kaine is a popular senator and former governor. Not ZOMG popular but people do like him. Trump meanwhile when he’s been in our state can’t even stay on message. He went on a long rant about manufacturing when he was here in NOVA. You could easily do fajitas with no real trouble. Skirt steak (sauce of garlic, cumin, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce, grilled peppers and onions. Salsa plus hot sauce and spanish rice and black beans round out the dish.

I have never been into Mexican food but all this talk about tacos I might try to make some at home.

Tacos are how we always finish up leftover brisket,

There’s an Indian restaurant in Richardson, TX, in a strip shopping center that is really good. It’s a small buffet, and it hasn’t changed it’s offerings in the 13 years I’ve known about it.

i see the beginnings of a grand tour road trip route coming together

With all of this talk about tacos today I was carving some for lunch! However, my choices were Taco Bell or Taco Johns. I did not have tacos for lunch today. :(

Made that with my ex-wife for her parents one time. They thought it was weird, LOL. They ate it though, and thought it was pretty good.

The artist nailed it - this is straight out of Stephen King’s description of Pennywise from the book.

i dont see why you couldnt add peas. Mrs dm isnt a fan and since the overlords dont eat vegetables she rules on this

(plus without thumbs, the overlords cant really dip a cracker or crudite)

Clarion call from the fever swamps:
Hobby Lobby CEO Denounces Clinton’s War on Christians, Endorses Trump

This is the usual wailing and caterwauling over the denial of their God-given right to discriminate and use employee benefits to promote fundy hucksterism.

Freepers are on the case and go Breitbart one better with a slight change to the headline:
Hobby Lobby Denounces Clinton’s War On Christians,Endorses Trump
One freeper is positively apocalyptic (note sneer quotes around “retired” as though everyone knows that the saintly RW justices will be Arkancided, just like Scalia):

I believe I made the statement several days ago - if Hillary wins this election; there is but one goal the LEFT has .. turning the Supreme Court into a RADICAL; ULTRA-LEFT WING GROUP. It would be easy - especially with a DemocRAT Senate who would easily ratify any of Hillary’s nominations. All the older Justices would be “retired”; leaving the Court open to nothing but Hillary appointments.

Once those appointments are filled ..?????? THE WHOLESALE SLAUGHTER OF THE CONSTITUTION WILL BEGIN. THERE WILL BE NO STOPPING THE LEFT ONCE THEY GET A CLEAR PATH TO DESTROY THE CONSTITUTION. Christians/Conservatives better be ready; you’ll be first on their list.

Is anybody out there paying attention .. IF THIS HAPPENS .. AMERICA IS OVER .. THIS COUNTRY WILL NO LONGER BE FIT TO LIVE IN.

People need to think about this election of Hillary as the most horrible event to ever take place in America.

Too bad about all this. I made good use of Hobby Lobby’s 40% off coupon (one item per visit) to buy model building supplies, but no more.
