Charity Navigator Now Agrees: The Clinton Foundation Is One of the Best Charities in the US

Shutting down this exemplary organization would be a real crime
Politics • Views: 41,324

Charity Navigator’s rating for the Clinton Foundation

Our article about CharityWatch’s “A” rating for the Clinton Foundation was one of our most popular posts in August, garnering more than 15,000 social media shares. But many people of the Trumpian persuasion tried to push back by claiming that the other major charity rating organization, Charity Navigator, had listed the Clinton Foundation as “unrated.”

Even though the description at Charity Navigator stated very clearly that the lack of a rating was not an indication there was something untrustworthy or negative about the Clinton Foundation, of course conservatives tried to imply otherwise. Because that’s what they do.

Well, now we have an update to this story.

Charity Navigator has just given a rating to the Clinton Foundation — and as with CharityWatch, it’s one of their highest ratings possible, four stars, with an overall score of 94.74 out of 100.

By comparison, another top-rated US charity, the American Red Cross, gets only three stars and an 85.01 score.

Charity Navigator’s rating for the American Red Cross

So when people call for the Clinton Foundation to be shut down because there’s an “appearance of impropriety,” they’re prioritizing manufactured “optics” over actual good work that benefits millions of people around the world.

As I’ve said before, this is ACORN all over again where an organization that does a lot of legitimately great things may get shut down because a bunch of right wing assholes hate it and the people who run it. I’m honestly legitimately impressed with how well the CF is rated. To be rated ahead of the Red Cross, a worldly renowed and respected name is quite something.

Republicans live in an imaginary land where every gut feeling that rattles around in their tiny heads is true. It’s the nature of the right/left divide in this country.

Republicans fear-monger that Democrats will confiscate all their guns and ban the Christian religion.
Democrats fear-monger that Republicans will lower taxes on the nation’s wealthiest, cut social programs, roll back reproductive rights, repeal environmental regulations and pass laws harmful to minorities and LGBT people.
Democrats do not do and have never done what Republicans fear and claim they will do.
Republicans do and have done what Democrats fear and claim they will do.
Clearly, one of these political parties is comprised of irrational paranoiacs. I won’t say which, but it is definitely one of the two.

So the taco truck guy is a mini-Trump scammer:

“…As part of a foreclosure rescue scam, Marco Gutierrez bullied and intimidated HERA’s monolingual Spanish-Speaking homeowner client, charging over $16,000 for a loan modification. He took the homeowner’s car as partial payment but never changed registration, racking up unpaid tickets under the homeowner’s name. When HERA helped the homeowner complain to authorities, the scammer filed a meritless lawsuit against the homeowner (and against a HERA staffer). In the course of defending the case, HERA discovered that Gutierrez was a serial litigant who had filed dozens of actions against his “clients”. Gutierrez was using the court system to bully vulnerable residents across several counties into paying amounts they did not owe him and to retaliate against those who complained about his practices. After defeating Gutierrez’s claims HERA brought a successful vexatious litigant motion against Gutierrez. As a result, both HERA’s client and countless other unrepresented homeowners who might have fallen prey to Gutierrez’s tactics are now protected.”crooksandliars.com

Stuart police: Man uses wanted poster for Facebook profile photo

Stuart police arrested Mack Yearwood Tuesday on outstanding warrants from Citrus County, on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Officers say Yearwood used his “Wanted of the Week” poster from that county as his Facebook profile photo.

Police used the photo to help identity him as a suspect in a reported disturbance from Monday night at a home in Stuart. An officer who responded to the disturbance informed other investigators of Yearwood’s warrants, a department spokesman said. An officer checked a Facebook page, where Yearwood appeared to proudly display his wanted status.

Yearwood was located Tuesday and arrested on two warrants. He asked to put on a pair of jeans lying on the floor near his bed. As he got dressed, a bag of marijuana fell out of his pocket, police said….

It’s been around for a long time - the last flare-up I recall was in the 1990s when Bill Clinton was POTUS.

I don’t recall the overt anti Semitism, though (except for Pat Fucking Buchanan) and certainly not this degree of white nationalism.

The Alex Jones crowd (Libertarian kooks, the “Patriot Movement”, and JBS aholes) has always been anti-semitic. It was common around their portions of the web such as it was back in the early 90s. Those not on the web had newsletters full of this kind of crap.

Anywhere that the far left and far right start to converge, anti-semitism is always an issue, whether it is overt or not.

He wanted to know, on a more serious note, why ANY American would choose vote for such a person. I told him it seems to be mostly white people who are in denial about the demographic genie they let out of the bottle when they came here and took land from Native Americans & Mexicans (who had already been screwed over by the Spanish), then proceeded to drag a bunch of Africans over here in chains. Kinda bit ‘em in the ass. He heartily agreed, nodding his head & LOL the whole time.

No doubt that there’s an unprecedented metaphysical evil at work here.
Never before in the history of humanity Satan dared to manifest himself so openly. And when I say never, I mean it. Not even with Hitler, Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot.
For sure, they all attempted to establish some thwarted idea of Paradise on Earth, and great woes ensued. But murderous as they were, those regimes reclaimed the bodies, not the souls of their enemies. And their evil was self-evident to the people of good will.
But they never attacked the very foundation of Creation. This is unprecedented. Here we have an unfathomable wickedness presenting itself as good and charitable. And the people of good will who have lost the light of Christ, and therefore of intellect, are lured into it as flies into a torch that will forever burn their soul.
Fair is foul, and foul is fair.
Prayer must be our weapon.

Yep…folks like me are just like Pol Pot and Hitler! I mean, how can you tell the difference between us?

dictionary.com gives this as the secondary definition of “freak”:

a person or animal on exhibition as an example of a strange deviation from nature; monster.

The only way Evan is not a freak and a monster is if our culture has completely abandoned the very concept of nature in the case of human beings. Of course, it has, and thus Evan gets to be a cultural hero.

I always wanted to be a freak and a monster. That is why I am in the cast for Stranger Things: Season 2

That’s interesting you say that, because I’m not in step with any part of progressivism, and yet the trans issue is the first one that made me say, “If I have to go to jail in order not to go along with this, so be it.” It’s just such an affront to my sense of honesty and integrity to go along with such an obvious lie.

Same here. The person in the Time article makes my skin crawl. But the visceral disgust such images provoke is not even the worst part of the whole trans fad. It’s the demand that we pretend that the bearded woman in the article is actually a man, biology and reality be damned. I can’t submit to that level of deceit. There is no such thing as a pregnant man- that’s a per se contradiction. I don’t care how many hormones and other drugs that woman took or take; she’ll never be a man.

[NFR: I think that this accounts for the unshirted rage that so many transpeople exhibit publicly when this issue comes up. They seem to believe that if they shriek and castigate and intimidate people enough, they will be able to make what they believe to be true, true. But they can’t. E pur se muove, as Galileo is alleged to have said. And as Orwell definitely did say, “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two is four. If that is granted then all else follows.” And if it is taken away, all else follows that too. — RD]

I have no idea what unshirted rage is. Can anybody help me here? If anybody seems to exhibit obsessive rage problems about trans people, it would certainly seem to be Rod…but he banned me a couple of years ago so I can’t ask him.

No kidding. What annoys me though is when whites and I say this as a white try to use the suffering their ancestors had to tell others to shut up or suggest that their ancestors never complained. I’m of Irish descent. I know how hard it was for my Irish ancestors but you know what, my great great grandfather was paid when he worked as a puddler, he didn’t worry about if he didn’t say sir to the wrong person that he’d get lynched, etc. My brother and I have had this conversation and he and I have both agreed that so many whites naively think that slavery was the end of troubles for African-Americans in this country. It’s been really frustrating for us since a good friend of ours likes pushing that shit.

Indeed. Absent extraordinary issues with the Democratic candidate, voting for a Republican in a contested general election is a racist act. Anyone who does that is being a racist. Those who vote Republican and deny their racist votes are either lying or being willfully blind about their acts.

All of this is inherent in the GOP effectively having white supremacy in its platform, which has been the case for at least 30 years.

I see everyone in the media (including the NY Times) has their orders to be “fair” in their campaign reporting, which means for every negative Trump article there has to be a negative Hillary article, and for every positive Hillary article there has to be a positive Trump article, or Donald’s delicate feelings will be hurted and he will go on a Twitter rampage calling the reporters “low rated” and take away their media credentials.

Not just equal amount of stories, but giving each equal amount of weight and gravitas, so every sin Hillary commits must be treated as an equally mortal one compared to Trump, even when her sin is having a concussion during her SoS stint, and his is starting an international incident with the President of Mexico.

Story meetings must be interesting:

Editor: “OKAY! What do we have on the Presidential candidates?”

Reporter: “We’ve got the AG of Florida, while considering whether to join in New York’s lawsuit against Trump U, soliciting a contribution to her PAC from Trump, getting it, then choosing NOT to pursue the lawsuit.”

Editor: “Smells like out-and-out bribery! I like it! What do we have on Clinton?”

Other Reporter: “Well, we looked into emails, and we found that one of Bill Clinton’s aides who works for the Foundation asked Huma whether he could get a diplomatic passport.”

Editor: “Aha! Friends get favors! So, he wanted it for some vacation trip, right?”

Other Reporter: “Nah. He was accompanying Bill to North Korea to get those two journalists released.”

Editor: “Huh. But, he got it, right?”

Other Reporter: “No. She told him that State doesn’t do that.”

Editor: “Huh. Hmmmm. Well, if that’s all we have. Downplay the Trump thing, just say he paid a fine on it. And write up the Clinton thing. Make sure to throw in lots of ‘shade’ and ‘cloud’ metaphors to it looks like there’s something there.”

BTW, I had a Brush With Greatness today on FB. Chuck Todd asked for questions for a Q&A, so I asked him:

Why is there so little coverage of Trump donating to Pam Bondi while her office considered joining New York in the Trump University lawsuits, and after the donation she chose not to? Media report on “favors” asked of the Clinton State Department that were denied as if there’s something there, but ignore what appears to be out-and-out bribery.

And he answered me! He said,

See above.

(To be fair, he actually DID answer that question, which someone else also asked):

Just because you don’t see something on air the second you want it on air doesn’t mean we aren’t focusing on it. We’ve litigated the Bondi stuff before and will do it again. The bigger picture is this: Trump has a MAJOR transparency problem. If he wants to credibly hit the Clintons on fundraising and the foundation, he needs to be equally transparent

For those who can’t wait for a one-on-one debate:

On Thursday, officials from Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America announced plans for a Sept. 7 town hall forum with both Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump on “national security, military affairs and veterans issues.”

The event will be in New York less than a week after both candidates address American Legion members during their annual convention in Cincinnati, covering similar topics.

This is an easy enough problem for the media to address. Just set up a rotation of front page articles covering fundamental aspects of Trump’s candidacy.

Trump is a liar
Trump is a bigot
Trump is unprincipled
Trump is running the fascist playbook.
Trump has no qualifications for the presidency
Trump is an asshole
Trump is easily led/controlled by others

That enough for all seven days of the week. Each article can be updated to include the previous week’s Trump outrages that are on-topic for that article. Repeat the cycle until election day.

The press realized that although they get great ratings whether they’re praising Trump or trashing him, they also realized that if Trump wins, they get great ratings for as long as he’s in office. So they’ve essentially decided they’ll work to elect a fascist, because most of them won’t get thrown into the camps, and their Q ratings will go up.

I’ve long thought the best way to save the country would be to make sure more reporters and pundits woke up with pickaxes through their foreheads.

Uh. Isn’t that tampering with evidence? Entrapment? Sure doesn’t seem legit.

It’s email, I am sure the original was intact and unaltered so no tampering with evidence. FBI and Police have no obligation not to lie to someone they are investigating. They can tell a suspect they recovered DNA when they didn’t or that there is a witness when there isn’t etc.

Woohoo. I now have a web page that lets me enter text and then creates a meme image from it. This early version is using a preset image. Now to write the code to allow uploading any image.

The meme font turned out to be the most difficult thing to create. It needs to have a substantial black border around each letter, so it’s still visible even over very light images. But the built-in ImageMagick methods for creating outlined text just looked awful.

So I ended up doing it in two steps. First I create an all-black version of the text one size larger, then I create an all-white version at the real size, and overlay it on the black version. This gives me a beautiful black outline around the white text.

And to make sure it looks good at any size, all of these manipulations are done with a font that’s YUUUGE (180 pixels), then scaled down to the real size to fit in the image’s dimensions.

Believe it or not, this is fun for me.

I know Newt is a “conservative intellectual” and is therefore obliged to puke up dangerously massive derp singularities frequently.

However, this business of Trump getting more of the black vote than any Republican in modern times is delusional, even for a Republican.

I’m ROTFLMBO. If any of Trump’s supporters didn’t know that Trump never really planned to fully self-fund his campaign, they should know it now, especially after this article notes that Kushner expects the RNC to put all of its available resources into Trump’s campaign and has to be told that it can’t.

“When you’re in a foreign country, and you go to the U.S. embassy in a foreign country, you’re on U.S. land. You’re not on foreign country land anymore. You’re in U.S. territory, right? So, if you set up—let’s call them Mexican deportation stations within the United States, and an illegal who’s here with a family says, ‘You know what, I’ve been here for five years, I’m paying my taxes, I just want to be a United States citizen,’ they go to this island within the United States. You’re technically on Mexican land again, right? You’ve been deported, and you go back into society. I mean, that’s a way, and why is that so bad? That’s a very friendly way and nice way to do it, no?”

Either he’s calling for real concentration camps, or some kind of mummer’s farce of a fake deportation that will get Trump’s pig people all riled up when they figure out what is being proposed.

And that, Ladies and Gentleman, is a classic noir movie line. Look at the flow in the second clause. The Coen’s are brilliant. And Miller’s Crossing is my favorite. So good at so many levels.

… delusional, even for a Republican.

That’s a phrase I’ve used a lot in the past decade, but I’m not sure it means anything anymore. Where’s the limit on expected Republican delusion? Is there anything too crazy for Republicans to support? They don’t seem to have an Overton window anymore. Anything goes - including open racism and antisemitism, and they’re willing to believe pretty much anything if it will make them feel like they’re good people while the rest of us are terrible and need to be ruled by them.

Yeah, doing font stuff in Imagick is another good use-case rather than the command line where it just gets too complicated rather fast.
