On his upcoming debate moderator gig, Chris Wallace says:

I view it as kind of being a referee in a heavyweight championship fight.

and then:
But when asked what he intends to do if (candidates) say something he knows to be untrue.
“That’s not my job,” Wallace concluded. “I do not believe it is my job to be a truth squad.”

WTF does he think a referee does other than keep the fighters honest?

Sigh.

We now have confirmation in direct statements from both Chuck Todd and now Chris Wallace admitting they are not journalists, they are entertainment show hosts. Nothing more. Add in Soledad O’Brien’s comments from the last thread regarding CNN and it is clear to see they are all worthless as journalists but perfectly fine as entertainment vehicles for selling commercials.

I thought so. They all look familiar. I know Michael League is the main man in Snarky Puppy usually playing bass and leading the band. Chris McQueen is one of the main Puppy guitarists too I believe. They all stay busy.

Yep, but sadly Chuck and Chris still have high profile “news” jobs, and Soledad? Not so much anymore. Too much truth to power?

Lazy writing on my part. I didn’t mean to include Soledad in as an entertainer. She was just pointing out that CNN is. So, we have NBC (MSNBC), Fox and CNN spoken for. I think it is pretty easy to say they all (including CBS) are entertainment based loosely on people and places in the news.

Saw some rubbish on CNN about a Trump documentary - Ivanka says her dad always told the kids to “do whatever is in their heart” for work - so they all work for him. haha.

My latest bit of poetry…

SEPTEMBER BLUES

They say when autumn rolls on in,
beneath the reddish leaves,
There’s a melancoly wonder that lives
just beneath the trees.

You won’t find it there in August,
but as the calendar moves on,
There it will be waiting,
In the deep and early dawn.

There are some who love the harvest,
on the farms this time of year,
But there are others out there who
find only empty fear.

One day I saw a lonely girl,
On the edge of the rolling fields.
In a quaint moment of sadness,
a truth of the soul revealed.

Tell me darling, what’s the news?
Is it summertime medleys
or September Blues?

She didn’t say a word to me,
just stared long across the grass.
As if searching in the distance,
for some innocence long past.

A hint of coolness in the air,
carries echoes of the pain.
drowned out in the misery,
of a dreary morning rain.

Floating not too far away,
Is a lonely maple leaf.
Perhaps that’s mother natures way
Of sharing in the grief?

At once a tear streamed down her cheek,
and the mystery overcame her.
It was as if right then the entire world,
had sought it out to shame her.

What road now, is it you choose?
The path of wonders
or September blues?

The little morning song continued,
the sun peered out from the clouds.
And in the middle of that field,
A desperate spirit tore the shroud.

The one that had ensconced her,
The one that shed her blood.
Trapped her in that inner prison,
and dragged her through the mud.

And here now the same girl, young,
but clearly somewhat broken.
Filling the sky with distant dreams,
and memories unspoken.

She looked back at me and smiled.
In her hand, a frail clover,
And one wish for a brilliant ride
On the fresh winds of October.

Do you see now, the misty ruse?
Is it a trick of the shadows
or September blues?

Oh, I understood just what you were saying, and I know we share a loathing for Chuck Todd and the rest of the infotainment assholes. I was just pointing out how Soledad, who sees through their bullshit, is the one who no longer has the high-powered job in the industry.

I sat through the same Congressional testimony that a lot of those on this board did. And Comey was pretty clear that (c) stood for “Confidential,” not classified. And, when questioned, admitted that without headers it’s entirely possible for a reasonable person to misinterpret what the (c) is there for.

Sunday is always a hard day because it’s such a long day. I got up yesterday at 3:00, spend 6 hours cleaning my house, then went to work, then lead morning prayer at church (our priest is on a three month sabbatical) including having to preach speak about the gospel (not ordained so can’t “preach” :D ) spent the afternoon an hour’s drive away visiting my son.

Now I’m home at last with beer - a very fine IPA, Bell’s Two Hearted Ale, in honor of the recent “discussion” about them and whiskey to hand by the light of a monitor, a kerosene lantern and the blue glow of the tubes in my amp. And of course, LGF on the said monitor.

They’re cherry-picking the bits out of the testimony and FBI report they like. Comey and the report both say that (c) means “Confidential” but only in the presence of proper markings, but wingnuts just grab the (c) to insist the emails were classified. They likewise leave out how “retroactive classification” was so absurd that it was classifying emails that talked about newspaper articles on CIA drone strikes.

The two inconvenient facts you never see them repeat from the report? The number of emails so marked was indeed the 3 initially reported. And every single email later deemed “classified” by intel services was sent to her and not by her.

Oh, and another thing I’ve seen wingnuts pick up and run with is Hillary mentioning her concussion during her FBI testimony, but with the deliberate misinterpretation of her testimony as saying she couldn’t remember the briefings because of the concussion rather than the actual statement, which is she didn’t attend the briefing due to her doctor limiting her work hours after the concussion.

Because, as we all know, doctors never order you to limit your work hours unless you’re dying from some major disease./////

Looking for something completely different (music lessons) but found this instead. For those into historical aircraft, a nice old government film from when the P-40 was no longer the top of the line but the stepping stone from the AT-6 to the P-47 or P-51.

HOW TO FLY THE P-40 Warhawk

The P-40 was a far better fighter than people give it credit for. I was reading the other day that the Japanese Ace Saburō Sakai in 1942 considered a well handled P-40 to be the most dangerous allied fighter in the Pacific.

re: #4 BeachDem

On his upcoming debate moderator gig, Chris Wallace says:

I view it as kind of being a referee in a heavyweight championship fight.

and then:
But when asked what he intends to do if (candidates) say something he knows to be untrue.
“That’s not my job,” Wallace concluded. “I do not believe it is my job to be a truth squad.”

WTF does he think a referee does other than keep the fighters honest?

Sigh.

Post-Truth Society

DT: “I have it on good authority that Crooked Hillary has this building surrounded by her elite Rainbow Guard, a squad of Muslim lesbian shock troops, that are going to pull down our pants and whip us with chains until we convert to Islam!”

Wallace: Says nothing…

HC: “What the… He… He’s just confused, that’s not true, I think that’s the plot of a porn movie that was on in his hotel room last night!”

Wallace: “Are you saying you know about dirty television, MISSES CLINTON?”

In 1942 there wasn’t much to compare it with. There was the Brewster Buffalo, the F4F Wildcat, and the P-38. I think I would have chosen the P-40 if it were up to me.

I wonder if the Trump camp is trying to figure out a system where they can feed him facts through an earpiece.

Trump doesn’t need facts. He’ll just make stuff up like he normally does.

P-39, Hurricane & early models of Spitfire were also out there.

The main thing a P-40 pilot had to do was keep their energy (speed) up. We would later learn that the Zero’s ailerons became insanely hard to move above 250 mph. Slow down and turn with him, a Zero would eat the P-40’s lunch. Keep the speed high and the P-40 could turn inside the Zero (or ME-109 in North Africa but the Germans usually fought very inexperienced US pilots).

Well, I was away for a while, for a sad reason. Had to go to the vet….

R.I.P.

Pumpkin

9/30/2001-9/4/2016

We’re not picture-takers any more, so the only pics I have of him are prints. Somebody posted this here a while back—this is our Pumpkin (the yellow tabby) and Killer to the life. We’re really going to miss him.

Condolences. I lost one of my two on August 8th and I’ve cried over losing him more than anything. If your pics are from the age of print, that means he lived long and it looks like he had fun, so that’s something. :)

re: #94 Skip Intro

Why does he need facts? The moderator won’t challenge anything he says and he’ll just go on a Trump Gallop anyway.

And the pundits won’t judge his performance on accuracy, but on whether he exceeds extremely low expectations. If Trump can form a complete sentence or two and doesn’t talk about his penis, they will praise him for how “presidential” he looked, while nit picking Clinton to death on every aspect of her performance and appearance.

No, no—that’s not him. That’s just a picture somebody posted here a while back that’s the spitting image of him and Killer. I could try to scan some old prints, but I’ll probably do that right after I digitize all my VHS tapes—IOW, never. Advances in technology are really corrosive of my generation’s memories.

Right now I’m tearing up because Killer won’t leave the windowsill waiting for Pumpkin to come home….

I still recall the shivers I would get hearing the scream of a P-38 going over. No aircraft had such a sound.

re: #124 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge

:( I lost Departed Cat on a Monday. I came back from work at lunch and bawled, every day for a week and a half… Took The Other Cat to the vet at the end of that week to get some kitty conjunctivitis treated, and she was looking for Departed Cat in various corners when I let her out of the carrier after returning. I broke down.

Last week I got a condolences card from the emergency vet where I took him, signed personally by the staff and doctor… It had a poem in it about missing a departed pet. I cried on the whole walk back from the mail room. I’ve never had grief sneak up on me like that before.

I’ve held people’s hands as they died and I’ve lost relatives to disease, etc. like anybody else, but pets are harder somehow.

It will be broadcast live from the White House if Mr. Trump wins. /s
