Video: Trump Lies About Opposing Iraq War, Says He Would Have Caught Bin Laden Before 9/11
In the middle of his 09/08/2016 speech about education in Cleveland, Donald Trump suddenly went on an extended rant about his record on the Iraq War, repeating once again the lie that he opposed the war “from the beginning.” He didn’t.
And Trump didn’t stop there. Trump also claimed that he would have “caught” Osama bin Laden long before the September 11 attacks.
This is sheer pathological dishonesty.
Here’s a transcript of the bizarre self-aggrandizing rant, from the Washington Post’s Sopan Deb:

Note that in this clip, Trump cites an Esquire article to back up his claims. This prompted the editors of Esquire to include the following note at the top of that article:
Editor’s note: The following story was published in the August 2004 issue of Esquire. During the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed to have been against the Iraq War from the beginning, and he has cited this story as proof. The Iraq War began in March 2003, more than a year before this story ran, thus nullifying Trump’s timeline. More details can be found here.
