Deplorable: 69-Year Old Woman Punched in the Face by Trump Supporter at Asheville NC Rally

Trump is inciting this violence with his demagoguery

Video

We had video last night of a Trump supporter assaulting several protesters at his rally in Asheville, North Carolina, but today the full story of the violence at this rally is coming out, including a report that one of Trump’s thuggish fans punched a 69-year old woman in the face.

WLOS — ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Police say they arrested five people at Trump’s Monday night rally in Asheville, and as of publishing have warrants out for two more people. Police plan to arrest Richard Campbell of Edisto Island, South Carolina for assault on a female.

That female is 69-year-old Shirley Teter. She has protested her whole life. Now she adds Trump to the list of things she’s protested against.

“Why did I get involved yesterday at my age? Because I ran into another situation that was sickening my heart,” she said Tuesday afternoon outside Cafe 64 in downtown Asheville.

[…]

After the rally, Teeter experienced something she had never seen in all of her protests. The peace teetered over.

“I said you better learn to speak Russian, and I said the first two words are going to be, ha ha. He stopped in his tracks, and he turned around and just cold-cocked me,” Teter said.

She was punched in the face. She says she fell on her oxygen tank and has sore ribs, a sore jaw, and cut her elbow. She later went to the hospital and is thankful she did not break any bones.

Ms Teter later called in to North Carolina’s News 13 to say one more thing:

After the interview, Teeter called News 13. She wanted to add one more thing, a question.

She asks if people find a Trump supporter punching her in the face deplorable.

I assume Trump will making their bail.

I imagine they’re making that assumption, too. They’ll have plenty of time until their hero bails them out… by which I mean that he will pretend to have no idea that they exist.

Savings accounts. The very kind of thing that helps the folks who aren’t sitting on trust funds and millions of dollars.

This is more right wing nonsense. It’s also more of the SS/DD Trump/GOP policies that favor the rich and screw everyone else.

It’s also vaporware since the numbers wont compute, it doesn’t cover what they say it would, and it reeks of a half-assed attempt to convince GOP women that Trump wont totally screw them over (hint, it will).

Brought over from the last thread because I think it’s important economic news.

re: #18 ObserverArt

“Damn! I haven’t watched Chris “Tweety” Matthews lately and he is having so much fun with Obama in his home town (Philly) today.”

There should be cause for jubilation today because of new info released by the Census Bureau:
“Americans finally got a raise last year after eight years of stagnating incomes. The typical U.S. household’s income rose 5.2 percent in 2015 to $56,516, the Census Bureau said Tuesday…. The government’s annual report on incomes and poverty portrays an economy that is finally starting to benefit a wider range of Americans, roughly six years after the recovery began.”

Ryan took to the pages of The Washington Times a few days ago to announce the failure of progressivism in America and to write that, “For all the tax hikes and reckless spending and red tape, America is not better off.”
washingtonexaminer.com

I expect Ryan the GOPers do what they’ve always done since January 20, 2009—-deny the positive info in the Census Bureau report and continue calling this president’s policies a major failure.

Trump had nothing to do with this. He was inside inciting violence against Mexicans, not little old ladies. (do I really need a //) You really have to be a piece of work to gather the courage to hit a 69 year old woman in the face. Sociopaths love sociopaths.

22
gocart mozart  Sep 13, 2016 • 5:21:25pm

The question recurs, what will satisfy them? Simply this: We must not only let them alone, but we must somehow, convince them that we do let them alone. This, we know by experience, is no easy task. We have been so trying to convince them from the very beginning of our organization, but with no success. In all our platforms and speeches we have constantly protested our purpose to let them alone; but this has had no tendency to convince them. Alike unavailing to convince them, is the fact that they have never detected a man of us in any attempt to disturb them.

This reminds me of an incident in March 2010 when Rep. Cleaver and some other Dems were headed to the House to vote on the healthcare bill and some right-wing protestors spat on Rep. Cleaver. All right-wingers could scream was, “Prove it!”

This is not going to end well:

Jr. uses his daughter? Yeah, that’s some serious class. It’s also completely misguided, and opens the door to a whole lot of heartache for that kid.

She doesn’t deserve it.

She also doesn’t deserve her dad to have trot her out like a prop.

She doesn’t deserve her dad using her as a foil to Clinton’s deplorables comment, because it also proves Clinton’s point - there’s no level too low for Trump to stoop to.

Moreover, if Jr. is indoctrinating his kids to think like Donny Littlefinger, then she too will eventually become part of the problem. And yes - that means she’ll become one of the deplorables unless she chooses a different path.

He learned it’s OK to trot one’s offspring out like a prop from Sarah Palin doing it in 2008. I agree that he shouldn’t do it, but he seems to think it will help his dad win in November.

I’ve had a thought about why the MSM have gone from their usual horse-race-encouraging coverage to being objectively, frantically pro-Trump the last few weeks. The change came when Trump said he was going to start The Trump News Network™ if he lost the election. Now they’re desperate to get him elected, because they figure that way, they’re safe from the competition for eight years at least. This perspective explains a lot.

I think some people who tell pollsters they’ll vote for novelty candidates will actually come to their senses. 44% seems to be a hard ceiling for Trump, but he way get a few “Johnson” votes. My prediction: 49/45/5/1 Clinton. There’s no way it should be that close, of course.

I’m thinking when reality hits in the voting booth or mail-in-ballot is filled and sent it will be more like 52-40-7-1 Clinton-Trump-Johnson-Stein. I have faith in the American people…especially women and minorities. A right ass kicking!

Later Lizards…Obama signaled today in Philly…the fight has really just begun.

These are the rantings of an immature child, not a true martial artist. His instructor, his school, and his fellow students should be far more than ashamed of his behavior. He is an outright embarrassment to the martial arts and to all martial artists. A true practitioner would never publicly brag about their skills. They would never make public statements about being ready to take on all comers. A legitimate martial artist would be more proud of their ability to walk away from a fight than to win one. This is the strength and maturity that one learns from getting genuine martial arts training. The martial arts have given me the opportunity to develop a confidence and an inner strength. It is the kind of quiet strength that someone can see in my eyes that would likely persuade them that there is a far better target somewhere else.

Not sure, Trump isn’t exactly a traditional republican. Obama got 41% last go around and that poll only has Clinton at 36%, so it isn’t like a lot of people are jumping ship to the Dems.

Romney got around 52% of the vote here and Trump’s pulling 42%. I’d be willing to say that the shift isn’t so much towards the Dems as it is away from Trump.

Still, for Hillary to be within single digits of the GOP nominee in Texas is a big deal. She may not win the state, but she’s scaring the bejesus out of the GOP.

Repair the chewed lines with electrical tape, sealing them tight, then spray all the insulation down with Bitter Apple making sure to stay away from the plugs. Spray the protective sheaths with it too.

The power cords are usually pretty standard if they’re straight AC (either two plug or three including the ground wire.) Unfortunately they’re a lot more device specific if they’re DC (these will have a small transformer box that’s warm to the touch.) If DC you’ll have to match the plug size going into the device, the output voltage and the output current in milliamps. It will all be labeled on the transformer.

Fairly new report on dcleaks hacking Colin Powell emails. The biggie story coming from them.

NY Daily News - Colin Powell lambasts Donald Trump as ‘national disgrace’ in leaked emails: report

Here is the real meat in the story:

“The whole birther movement was racist,” Powell said in an email sent Aug. 21, also addressed to Miller, who now works as a political correspondent for One America News Network.

“That’s what the 99% believe,” Buzzfeed reported Powell as writing. “When Trump couldn’t keep that up he said he also wanted to see if the certificate noted that he was a Muslim.”

Buzzfeed initially reported that Powell did not deny the validity of the leaked emails, but he had “no further comment.”

Plenty more at the link.

What is fun…99% is larger than Hillary’s 50%!

Yep, Powell actually backs up Hillary’s basket and dumps almost all birthers in it as racists.

Oops. KABOOM!

Heard this on MSNBC at 11:00. Just getting rolling.

Thank you. I’ll take them into Best Buy for replacement. They love me. Laptop, printer & now plugs.

I’ll cancel the appt if all is working tomorrow morn.

If everything is working and you can stand to wait a day or two order them from amazon. Best Buy jacks up prices on cables like crazy. I wouldn’t be surprised if that sort of item is where they make most of their profits.

Thanks. I’m thinking of Frank’s idea of electrical tape, but I might just go the safe route of replacement.

These are the Time Warner power sources. The box & the skinny cord that goes into the router & the cable box. Hoping they are replaceable.

Not sure about this website, looks legit. This quote is in the story. RE: the dude who punched the objectors at the Trump rally in Ashville.

Asheville Deputy Chief of Police Jim Baumstark responded to the PAC’s complaint against Donald Trump:

“We are aware of the assault that took place inside of the venue during the rally that is depicted in a video being circulated on social media and on several media outlets. During the incident the victim and witnesses were escorted out of the rally by the Secret Service and Trump’s private security. This morning the Asheville Police Department followed up on the incident and after speaking to the victim, obtained warrants for the suspect, Thomas Vellanti Jr. The Asheville Police Department has worked diligently to protect both those attending the rally and those exercising their right to protest.”

It is. I worked at a retail computer store. Markup on cables is ridiculous, and even given that, we were encouraged to push the gold-tipped cables or higher end cables, because that $34.99 printer cable costs about $2 wholesale.

Another cashcow are service agreements/extended warranties. We got bigger commissions if we successfully sold those with a computer purchase.

CompUSA still went belly up, though. As did Circuit City. Worked for both. Best Buy is probably still in business because I didn’t work there. :-P

Women live a very long time. I went to my last great-great grandmother’s funeral in 1978 on emergency leave from the Navy, my Polish great-grandmother’s and grandmother’s in 1984, and my other great grandmother on emergency leave in 1993. My maternal grandmother died in 2005.

A little of both. Mostly a compiled listing of deals he has made with other rich family corporations with political connections in countries around the world, some of which had issues with ruling governments or failed because the family companies he had dealings with went bankrupt or were charged with corruption.

It brought up the fact that because “The Trump Organization” is privately held, there is no way to place it in a blind trust, and that any Foreign Policy decisions by US would impact his business, and would he pick his monetary interests over National Security interests or not.

Also, would any foreign government looking into deals made by the Trump Organization want to cause issues with the President of the US, if Trump wins.

Dead man wins NY primary

Days after killing himself, a vocal advocate for gun rights and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has won a New York primary election.

Assemblyman Bill Nojay was facing a fraud trial in Cambodia and reportedly under FBI scrutiny when he went to his family’s cemetery plot in Rochester and shot himself in front of an arriving police officer on Friday.

Someone needs to ask Katie why anyone needs to pay for her Social Security benefits when she retires, or why someone should pay property taxes so her kids can go to school (assuming she has kids in school).

Setting aside public monies, someone should tell her that employers offer benefits to employees to attract and retain them — child care being one of them among very generous firms.

Oh Katie. I had to pay for a war that wasn’t mine honey, so I think you can suck it up and “pay for” some little kids to have decent care while their mothers work. Or ya know, wages could be raised to compensate for the cost of proper care. You ignorant little twit.

I cannot STAND people like this. Everything is a waste of money unless THEY need something, then they “earned it”. Someone who will most likely never, ever have to worry about the cost of anything. Who has most likely never even got dirt under her nails or had to worry about anyone but herself.

Fuck You Katie.

re: #268 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

Trump at one point claimed that he offered child care to his employees. That was a lie. He did no such thing. Guests to his hotels were offered the service. Employees weren’t. Trump could have offered child care but didn’t. And wont. He’s not doing it now, even though he’s on the campaign trail.

He’s offering up a plan that would help people like Ivanka, who are sufficiently wealthy to set aside funds for what’s essentially a flex spending plan for child care. Everyone else would be screwed - namely the poor and middle class - the very folks who need some kind of child care plan.

And his paid maternity leave plan is still more vaporware.

This is kinda the point about so called “businessmen” running countries. Trump has so many conflicts of interest that it’s hard to untangle all of them. The government isn’t a business anyway, it’s not designed to turn a profit. It’s supposed to do long term investment in its people and their needs.

I’m waiting to see if this even makes it into the bobblehead news cycle. I am not holding my breath.

But wait! There’s more! The Newsweek report concludes by stating the Trump Organization has dealings with several other businesses in other countries, but there wasn’t enough room to discuss them all. So, I’m wondering if Newsweek will have a second article exploring these other deals.

OMG. We’re all going to die from increasing the number of refugees granted entry to the US from…. 85,000 to 110,000 in the 2017 fiscal year starting Oct. 1 according to an annual refugee report to Congress obtained by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

That’s a worldwide refugee figure. It’d include Christians from Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East, or other religious groups who seek refuge in the US.

The figure is set annually.

BTW, roughly 1 million people legally immigrate to the US each year in the past several years.

So, the figure is … lemme do the math.. roughly 10% of the total. It’s a rounding error for total immigration.

But it’s a world of difference for people seeking to escape the horrors of conflict zones like Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Africa (Sudan, Nigeria, etc.)

unless they got something else up their collective sleeve, this not releasing medical information after voluntarily setting the whole thing up is not going to go away

first - the obvious - why / what did they find out that the public cant know

second - its so obvious a blatant media manipulation that everyone got sucked into and bought into - no one said - “it’s all a fake, he’s never going to actually do it”. everyone accepted the setup as legitimate.

look at how conway couldnt handle those two legitimate questions in yesterdays interview. the deflection on this one’s gonna be astounding

Updinged for killing Circuit City and CompUSA; I can’t downding you for letting Best Buy survive because that would cancel it out. Consider yourself reprimanded. Get in there and kill it, too.

Not from China, thanks anyway. I forgot to mention I started with Computer City, which got bought out by CompUSA. Then I switched to Circuit before Comp finally went under. So in a way I killed three chains. Trump should hire me.

The last time I visited Louisville, I drove by that CompUSA site. The building is still vacant after several years. That’s gotta hurt the owners of the property.

What kind of fuckery is this?

Syrians are people. They themselves aren’t immune to antibiotics. They might be harboring bacteria that is antibiotic resistant, but that’s a problem worldwide.

This is fearmongering, and rather short on facts, as the article itself attests.

This is a war zone and doctors are overwhelmed (and often targeted).

re: #200 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

Two reasons I think they are still in business:
1. There aren’t any other big electronics retailers.
2. When I go into the one in my town, I can find someone who will answer my question, and I’ve had quite a few times where the answer to my question doesn’t involve buying something.

I went into BB this summer to look around. The floor sales staff was friendly and not intrusive. I know a couple of people who have been GeekSquaders, and believe it or not, they say most of the Geeks are pretty capable. I’m not sure how BB pays its floor staff, though. True.

Medical experts have already predicted that the era of effective antibiotics is drawing to a close. What we’ve managed to do is kill off the weakest bacteria. We haven’t killed all of them.

The American obsession with antibacterial soaps and cleaning products is not helping, either.

There’s also the vast use of prophylactic antibiotic use in farm/food animals. In fact, 80% of antibiotics produced are used in this manner according to the FDA. The reason it’s needed is directly due to unsanitary, grossly overcrowded, and inhumane husbandry practices. Many countries have forbidden the practice.

I guess we can conclude that Melania’s big press conference isn’t happening, either.

Melania Trump released a letter on Wednesday from an immigration lawyer asserting that there is “100% certainty” that she immigrated to the United States legally.

“I am pleased to enclose a letter from my immigration attorney which states that, with 100% certainty, I correctly went through the legal process when arriving in the USA,” she tweeted.

A Politico report in August questioned Trump’s immigration status, highlighting a period in her career when she appeared to be working in the United States on a tourist visa.

“I can unequivocally state that these allegations are not supported by the record, and are therefore completely without merit,” attorney Michael J. Wildes writes in the letter.

Do these people ever actually follow through on anything they promise?

Thought you all could use a chuckle before I do actual work.

Woman on my FB feed, who is generally a nice person, has been posting some stuff that could have used a little critical thought beforehand: natural cures, quasi-urban legend stuff, etc.

For God knows what reason, she forwards stuff from Anonymous. Naturally, they had “proof” that 9/11 was an inside job on Monday, and my friend decided to share. I was already having a crap morning, and that one just drove me over the edge. I sent out a general Tweet (which is hooked into my FB feed) bitching about seeing truther crap and that after 15 years, enough is enough.

She offered an apology, which was fine. I replied back that this stuff has been debunked a million times over, and that anything Anonymous says should be taken with several dump trucks full of salt. I referenced a Cracked article that detailed some of the truly monstrous things the group has done over the years, but couldn’t find the actual link.

She basically said “Thanks” but reminded me there are a few bad apples in every group.

Damn. The new Bloomberg-Selzer & Co. poll has Trump up by 5 in Ohio. I know Nate rates this poll very highly, but some of the questions are amazing.

On Trump concerns: (Bothers a lot)

Trump’s decision not to release his tax returns (49)

Trump’s criticism of a reporter that was seen as mocking the
reporter’s physical disability (57)

Trump’s charitable foundation’s illegal contribution to the
Florida attorney general’s political group as the attorney
general was deciding not to investigate fraud claims against
Trump University (40)

On Clinton concerns:

Clinton’s handling of her private e-mail, which the FBI director
called “extremely careless” (57)

Clinton’s handling of the Benghazi attack in which four
Americans were killed while she was secretary of state (59)

Clinton’s family’s foundation accepted money from foreign
governments when she was secretary of state (53)

Nevermind that the first two Clinton issues have been investigated to death.
Lets not forget to mention 4 people were killed while she was SOS.

Also, this:

33 Republican
10 Lean Republican
17 Totally independent
7 Lean Democrat
29 Democrat

I heard somewhere this morning that this poll used 2004 turnout for likely voter model and that may be absolutely correct. If it is, this could be trouble.

Bill Maher made a similar point a few years back, in between bouts of being in utter denial about how much of an ignorant Islamophobe he actually is.

Ford was running a truck commercial at the time, with a gravelly voice-over that extolled American hard work by shitting all over Europeans taking vacations longer than a weekend. There was some sort of line sneering about them sitting around cafes, drinking non-manly beverages.

Maher correctly pointed out how stupid this was. Many European citizens get, by US standards, massive amount of vacation time, and they are more productive and happy they are than us. The whole notion of “You’re a bad American if you take the morning off every 8 months” is not healthy.

I think it much more likely that the one time Trump let his wife “work” by giving the speech at the RNC it resulted in embarrassing him. He is on record from years before saying how dangerous it is for a man to let his wife work. There’s the proof that Donny is always right!

Trump put on display (again) why he’s such an accomplished con-artist: He got the media printing the story he wanted even when he knew that he’d never follow through with the promise. He announces that he got a physical and was going to make it public, which got the media talking about he’s promising to be more “forthcoming” than Hillary is. Then he kept lowering expectations, but kept the con going that the disclosure was still going to happen. And now he’s yanked back the bait, knowing that the victims of his con won’t blame him, they’ll blame themselves and so take steps to push the blame onto Hillary. Hence stories will now be that “both sides” are keeping secrets.

I suppose that depends on which part of the Navy, in aviation it was not so:

An A-6
An AN/ARC-59 (pronounced “an A-N arc fifty-nine,” an airborne UHF radio set)
NAVAIRSYSCOM (there is only one Naval Air Systems Command, so “a” or “an” do not apply)
a missilex (missile exercise)

I meant to say that you would say “a social justice warrior” even if you saw the letters SJW. While the Navy lived on acronyms, you weren’t supposed to actually say the acronym directly. My favorite was NavStaNorVa, for Naval Station Norfolk, VA.

Really—even for things like CIA or FBI?

It’s bad enough that I’ve tortured myself over whether acronyms intended to be plural should have an “s” added to the end or not—e.g. see those RWNJ or see those RWNJs?

I suppose that depends on which part of the Navy, in aviation it was not so:

An A-6
An AN/ARC-59 (pronounced “an A-N arc fifty-nine”
NAVAIRSYSCOM (there is only one Naval Air Systems Command, so “a” or “an” do not apply)
a missilex (missile exercise)
an ENCOM drill (emissions security, or control of broadcasts)

He was on a destroyer tender, for the most part, I think. Except for the year on Adak.

That’s because in America work isn’t a practical matter. It’s a religious ritual. Work hard and you’ll get into heaven/become rich.

Of course, as in Renaissance Catholicism, the people at the top don’t believe any of it. The belief system is just a way for them to become wealthy and powerful.

A one page summary. Not the actual exam records or full notes but a ONE PAGE summary.
Good god.

What Maggie wrote:
Over many months, Mr. Trump has sought to raise questions about the health of Mrs. Clinton, 68, and his supporters have asserted that she is hiding something about her health (her aides have strenuously denied this). But Mr. Trump has answered almost no questions about his own health over the last 15 months of his campaign, except for issuing a highly unusual doctor’s note.
How I would have written it:

Mr. Trump (aka the vulgar talking yam) has continuously spouted bogus claims about Mrs. Clinton’s health, while his supporters have advanced every conspiracy theory and video-diagnosis imaginable—all of which have been thoroughly disected by the fatuous media in an effort to achieve “balance.” Mr. Trump (2 years older than Mrs. Clinton, but we digress) has said nothing even close to the truth about his own health, issuing a totally laughable love letter from his ridiculous doctor, which the media ignored for 6 months before giving it a passing “ho hum” for a few days.

Stay tuned to the New York Times for further updates on how both sides do it, even though it’s not true. “Real news deserves real journalism.”

The Chicago Manual of Style covers the letter H (I got into a mixup with my senior editor over that):

Unless the letter H is silent at the beginning of a word, the article “a” applies (a historic event, not an historic event). The sound the word “historic” begins with is not a vowel sound.
