Wednesday Night Jam: Beck, “Wow”

Music • Views: 39,099

YouTube

This excellent new video from Beck serves to introduce a new feature at LGF: if an article contains a YouTube or Vimeo video, and you scroll down past it (for example, to read comments), the video will automatically shrink to a smaller size and jump down to the bottom right of the page, where it will stay anchored and continue playing. So you can now watch videos from the post — like a live stream of a debate or speech — and read/post comments at the same time.

Lyrics:
Giddy up, giddy up
Giddy up, giddy up

Wanna move into a fool’s gold room
With my pulse on the animal jewels
Of the rules that you choose to use to get loose
With the luminous moves
Bored of these limits, let me get, let me get it like

Wow!
It’s like right now
It’s like wow!
It’s like right, right now
It’s like wow!
It’s like right now
It’s like wow!
It’s like right now
Oh wow

It’s my life, your life
Live it once, can’t live it twice
So nice, so nice
Smooth like a tidal wave, take you on a getaway
My friends, your friends
Living every day like it’s just about to end
Now we’re pissin’ in the wind cause it’s so pine fresh
Right now
Yeah I, I wanna get it like

Wow!
It’s like right now
It’s like wow!
It’s like
Giddy up!
Wow!
It’s like right now
Wow!
Oh wow, it’s like right now

It’s your life
Falling like a hot knife
Call your wife; secular times, these times
My demon’s on the cell phone
To your demons, nothing’s even right or wrong
It’s irrelevant, elephant in the room goes boom
Standing on your lawn doin’ jiu jitsu
Girl in a bikini with the Lamborghini shih tzu

It’s your life
You gotta try to get it right
Look around, don’t forget where you came from
It’s just another perfect night
We’re gonna take it around the world
We’re gonna take it around the world
Ride these wild horses
Ride these wild horses
We’re gonna take it around the world

Like
Wow, wow, wow
Like
Giddy up!
Giddy up!
Wow!

Is there a way to make it go away if you don’t want to watch the video?

Now, if one wanted to close out the video in the right hand corner, how would one do that?

I mean, with the video window there, it really doesn’t impede all that much on the screen. Very cool. And the theory is sound. We’ll have a video right there to comment on in real time, in re: speeches, debates, etc.

Maybe it doesn’t bother me as much as others because I am a subscriber, which cleans up the website considerably. Seriously y’all, throw Charles some coin for a subscription if you can, the LGF experience is way slicker and *faster*.

It is not so bothersome, but it is just right there and far too easy to click on by mistake. Since I occasionally read LGF at work, accidentally starting a video will get a bunch of heads popping up over cubes.

Meh. Charles is workin’ on it. It’ll be an On/Off thing before you know it. I mean, Charles is good at this shit.

Speaking of which, this is the only website out of many that I frequent that is *constantly* improving. There was a time when you couldn’t even post Instagram photos. Now it’s easy peasy! And on and on.

John Cole on Ivanka’s implication that no one has ever dealt with child care before:

The serious balls on these fucking people. Hillary Clinton has spent her entire life, as have thousands of others, working on these issues. The fucking Children’s Defense Fund was created in 1973, eight years before this halfwit was born. Hillary was working at the Children’s Defense Fund while in law school before this silver spooned shitheel gasped her first breath.

Put aside the fact that the Trump proposal is a god damned joke, Clinton has been advocating for this shit for decades. Ivanka Trump is the asshole freshman who skips half the fucking semester in her Poly Sci 100 class, and then writes a paper on a policy like she was the first person who ever thought about.

OK, I scrolled up & could see everything. Patience grasshopper lizards.

Well, yeah, that’s the point. His medical information release wasn’t a medical information release.

Hillary’s release, on the other hand, was comprehensive.

Well, as I noted the other day, even when McCain “released” his records, he really didn’t. He just invited a handful of reporters his campaign trusted to sit in a room for 3 hours with 8 years (1,170+ pages) worth of medical records with no cellphones, no internet access, and the documents couldn’t leave the room. So there really was no “release,” just what the various reporters could take down either by hand or on their laptops in 3 hours or less.

In order for me to work in China, I had to get a full physical exam: EKG, blood work, chest X-ray, urine sample, vision and hearing tests. My LPN was concerned about a blip in my EKG (possibly caused by the allergy meds I was on), so she scheduled me for a treadmill stress test. I passed all the tests.

That was just to work in China as an English teacher. Seems to me someone seeking to be president should also submit to a full physical exam *and* share the results.

Mostly, I would like to see Trump wheezing on the treadmill. I doubt he even walks very far.

64
Targetpractice  Sep 14, 2016 • 11:46:03pm

So in the past week, Trump has insulted our military and intelligence community, he’s been found to have used his “Foundation” to pay off politicians and launder money for his own pockets, and now Newsweek hit him with a metric ton of shady business connections.

But Hillary got overheated and admitted she has pneumonia, so she’s the one having “bad week” which we’re told will only further hurt her poll numbers and it’s all her fault.

It’s a wonder I don’t have an ulcer the size of the Hope Diamond by now.

So what’s even worse than the notion of any aspect of a Trump presidency (which would in and of itself be an unparalleled disaster) would be the specter of the backup plan - the presidency of his successor, that God-humping mediocrity Mike Pence.

Some Trumpists work as support staff for other lawyers in my office, and I’m acquainted with others who are lower middle class white people. To a one, they won’t care about any revelation about Trump. To them (and they won’t overtly say it) but listening to everything they ever talk about, the thing is purely about sticking it to “them n*****s and the s***s and the gays and the Jews”. Pure racial and cultural animus on behalf of those older lizard brain notions of white supremacy. Oh, they’ll deny it, but I see the bright light in their eyes on this stuff.

I count my mother among them with the grand vision of “saving younger white people from their own naïveté by reinstalling the older superior culture”. Dad isn’t among them, but he won’t speak up much.

Remember the offer he was purported to have made to Kasich and the fact that DT would soon get bored with the grinding mechanics of actually being President, he would quickly hand over operations to Pence and spend his time out there looking and acting “presidential” for all to admire.

The only Trumpists I can begin to understand are the ones who feel that America is bound to collapse sooner or later, and that electing DT will just speed up the inevitable and allow us to hit bottom and start the process of recovery.

Not that I agree with them, but at least it is based on pessimistic cynicism and not xenophobic bigotry.

Young Chinese actress, 26, dies of lymphoma after refusing chemo and instead getting Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies.

shanghaiist.com

When the TCM therapies were not working, her sister finally put her foot down and convinced Xu Ting to undergo chemo. But, by that time, her immune system was shot to hell and she died in considerable pain soon after.

TCM advocates, predictably, offered argle-bargle about how the TCM wasn’t done right, should have been used in combination with modern therapies, etc.

In the early days of the PRC, there were few doctors in rural areas, and little medicine and equipment for them. So Mao pushed the idea of TCM as a replacement for Western medicine, and now Chinese and many people worldwide believe that acupuncture, taiji, cupping, massage, wacky herbs, and other TCM methods will cure every damned illness on the planet.

My student, Carla, died at age 25 from osteosarcoma. She was getting chemo and TCM for the nausea. When she got pregnant, the family and doctors suspended the chemo, fearing it would harm the fetus. The decision doomed both her and the baby, because she died within four months.

Chemo sucks, but cancer sucks more.

Duterte killed justice official, hitman tells Philippine senate.

sbs.com.au

Matobato said that in 1993, he and other members of the death squad were on a mission when they approached a road blocked by the vehicle of an agent from the justice department’s National Bureau of Investigation.

A confrontation degenerated into a shootout. Rodrigo Duterte, mayor of the southern city of Davao at the time, then arrived on the scene, Matobato said.

“Mayor Duterte was the one who finished him off. Jamisola (the justice department official) was still alive when he (Duterte) arrived. He emptied two Uzi magazines on him.”

So, today we start our vacation. Next time I check in, it’ll be from somewhere in Boston. It’ll be nice to get away for a bit.

Saddening the event somewhat - our cat Pippin passed suddenly last night. He was 13, and had been sick with the coin-toss of IBS or cancer. He seemed to have been feeling better, but last night I went to the basement and found him. He was gone.

He was my little buddy - the second cat my wife and I got together, and he was the cat I pegged as having a sense of humor. He could always make me laugh.

I’ll miss that little guy. Good kitty.

Once again, we see the double standards on reporting with Clinton and Trump.

People bitch and kvetch that Clinton is secretive and isn’t releasing all kinds of medical records, yet we know she’s released her BP, cholesterol, medication list, etc.

Trump? Not a single actual figure other than his weight, from which we know that he’s got a BMI of over 34, which makes him obese. That’s hardly a paragon of health.

But the media isn’t exactly clamoring for the full details, and they’re content to let the sham-doc Oz rely on the buffoonish Dr. Bornstein for his medical details.

This is the same Bornstein who concocted the original to whom it my concern in 5 minutes without the slightest bit of irony in that it read like something a 2d grader might write about their own health - complete with the lack of medical terms (or accuracy in terms such as using positive in the wrong way).

Instead, we get a nonstop barrage of how Clinton needs to be more forthcoming about her pneumonia even as Trump’s shielding all details of his health from public view.

Not only are we seeing run of the mill double standards, but it’s the misogynistic double standards to boot.

So, Trump had what would be a good zinger, which I’m recalling from memory:

It used to be that cars were built in Flint and you couldn’t drink the water in Mexico. Now cars are built in Mexico and you can’t drink the water in Flint.

Cars (trucks) are still built in Flint - the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. And it’s still iffy to drink the water in Mexico. But why you can’t drink water in Flint is the result of GOP Gov. Snyder’s decision to switch water supplies, fail to properly treat the water, and then do nothing while people got sick and poisoned from lead contamination. The water still isn’t safe to drink, and we’re coming up on a year since this was all exposed for the world to see.

Yeah, I’ve seen reports about that. Trump seems to have ignored/forgotten/doesn’t care that it was Rick Synder (R-Lead) and his emergency manager who forced Flint off the Detroit water supply, refused to act when reports arose about issues with water quality, and then dragged his feet for months as the evidence flooded in that he poisoned the city of Flint. Heck, GM had to switch water supplies because the water was causing corrosion problems for their manufacturing processes (which goes back to Trump’s claim that cars aren’t built in Flint anymore).

Donald Trump Jr. spills the beans, reveals real reason his father won’t release tax returns

Trump Jr. didn’t mention the audit but said that his father would not release his tax returns during the election because it would create a “distraction” and people would have a lot of “questions.”

When asked why his father has not released his tax returns as presidential candidates have traditionally done, Trump Jr. said, “Because he’s got a 12,000-page tax return that would create … financial auditors out of every person in the country asking questions that would detract from (his father’s) main message.”

The fact that Trump’s tax returns would be a subject of discussion is precisely why they should be release. Among other things, his tax returns would provide a clearer picture of the many conflicts between a Trump administration and his business interests.

Why to release (but he wont):
1) identifies just how good a businessman he truly is/isn’t;
2) identifies his effective and marginal tax rates;
3) identifies how charitable he truly is (and truly isn’t);
4) identifies conflicts of interest, business relationships, shell corps, and who he does business with re: investments, debts, obligations, etc.;
5) identifies business structures not immediately visible given that his corporations are closely held, so we can get an idea to the self-dealing involved to plump up his “value”; and
6) identifies the value of his “brand name” and trademark deals, which I tend to think is the main source of his income these days since he has limited real estate portfolio and most of his deals involve licensing his name to stuff others built.

Donald Trump, Interrupted. He Calls Flint Pastor Who Cut In ‘a Nervous Mess.’

Mr. Trump addressed the awkward exchange in an interview on Fox News on Thursday, suggesting that Pastor Timmons had a political agenda.

“Everyone plays their games, it doesn’t bother me,” Mr. Trump said, claiming Pastor Timmons was shaking when she came up to him.

He added: “She was so nervous, she was like a nervous mess. I figured something was up.”

Mr. Trump has shown more discipline on the campaign trail in recent weeks, but his criticism of the pastor demonstrated that he is still willing to push back against perceived slights. Mr. Trump also allowed himself to belittle Mrs. Clinton’s recent illness at a rally on Wednesday night, suggesting that she could not stand for such an event and that she was probably “lying in bed.”

Hey Lori, only half of them. /s Are you a racist and hater, or are you just supporting one?

And this Gold Star Family member was not offended by Mrs. Clinton, my entire family was offended by Mr. Trump and his New York campaign manager spreading lies about the Khan family.

Trump’s campaign manager in New York alluded to Mr. and Mrs. Khan (and by extension all of us) of being supporters of terrorism. You okay with that?

OT: Diabetic Cat update

Well, it’s been almost a week since Felix Randomkitty was determined to be diabetic. He’s not really happy with insulin shots, but his activity level seems to be up (and his flooding the litterbox with pee seems to be down).

I learned something interesting. The vet in Scottsbluff is sixty miles away. We have a livestock vet (who will see small animals) sixteen miles away in Bridgeport, so my wife and I dropped in yesterday to ask her about obtaining diabetic cat food and insulin from her (shorter drive).

She said she would inquire from the Scottsbluff vet to see if the dry cat food she sells would be an acceptable substitute for the Purina DM canned food the Scottsbluff vet recommended.

As for insulin, she noted she doesn’t deal with insulin at her office, as she mostly deals with cows, horses, llamas, and sheep. The feed store does not either. She can get it, but it would be extremely expensive. She recommended an alternative.

She said the local human pharmacy will fill prescriptions for insulin for pets, provided they are provided by a DVM. She noted that at the local pharmacy insulin is far cheaper than she can get it (and it is the same drug for a cat or a human).

Huh. Didn’t know pharmacies could fill pet prescriptions. I will call the local pharmacy and find out if he will accept the prescription from the Scottsbluff vet for syringes and insulin.

In the meantime, here is Felix Randomkitty, ready to go to Canada with us this summer (he didn’t get to go… .)

Just zip it up after you feed me.

In the meantime, ICE granted a stay of removal to deport a Gold Star Mother. Her daughter, Army Captain Jennifer Moreno, was killed in Afghanistan, who entered a booby-trapped area to provide medical aid to a wounded member of her unit.

Her son is currently in the US Army, having served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. As noted in the petition to ICE, she has already endured more sacrifice than most American citizens would ever know, and splitting up the remainder of her family by deporting her would be exceptionally cruel.

change.org

Donald Trump of course would have her shipped out; she’s an illegal, get her out of here.

The petition, recently completed, details Captain Moreno’s service and her family’s struggle to avoid deportation of her mother.

I was not aware you could do such a thing.

I’ve rarely dealt with vets as my pets have all been generally healthy, only requiring rabies shots. The only time before Felix Randomkitty’s diabetes issue came up that a pet need a vet was when my (now deceased) guinea pig needed emergency caesarian surgery. (The vet did the surgery free; she told me she’d never done a surgery like that on a guinea pig before and had to go “by the book” during the surgery. She felt both bad about not being up to speed on guinea pigs and happy she pulled it off using the how-to manual.)

And yet roughly 40% of people will vote for Trump - that’s his ceiling. And a slightly higher percentage will vote Clinton (her floor). That’s gobsmacking because objectively this shouldn’t be a contest. Media coverage is definitely spinning this as a horse race.

Heck, we’ve got journalists who are saying that they’d vote Trump, just to be able to cover his fuckery for the next four years. You want to talk about irresponsibility, that’s it. This is a media that comes up with all manner of euphemism to avoid calling Trump lies a lie (stretching the truth, when it was an indisputable lie; e.g. that Clinton didn’t have a child care plan - it was on her site for months).

Trump Wants to Nominate Peter Theil to Supreme Court (goes to Huffington Post)

Donald Trump has made it clear he will nominate Peter Thiel to the Supreme Court if he wins the presidency, Thiel has told friends, according to a source close to the PayPal co-founder.

Trump “deeply loves Peter Thiel,” and people in the real estate mogul’s inner circle are talking about Thiel as a Supreme Court nominee, a separate source close to Trump told The Huffington Post. That source, who has not spoken to Trump directly about Thiel being nominated to the Court, cautioned that Trump’s offers often fail to materialize in real life.

Gaaaa… . Theil knows jack about the law. While there is nothing in the law or Constitution that requires a person to have any particular training in law or governance, Mr. “I don’t believe in democracy” Theil would be a stunning choice for the Court.

Keep in mind that if some disaster befalls the country and DT is elected, he will quickly get tired of the daily grind of governing and frustrated with the fact that the President cannot just snap his fingers and get things done like he could as president of a company.

Thiel would be an interesting choice, given that he’s gay, and conservatives absolutely hate the LGBT movement and all it represents - particularly SSM and extending equal rights and protections to gays. That’d make his choice odd to say the least.

He knows nothing about the law, let alone the specific issues that are frequently raised at the Court procedurally or substantively. He has no background to vet for purposes of a confirmation hearing, other than how he bankrolled Hogan’s suit against Gawker and running a business (where he’s got lawyers working for him and giving him legal advice).

Thiel has a JD, and clerked for a judge for a year. So he’s not completely clueless about law. The real issue is that Thiel is such a raving RWNJ that he makes Robert Bork look like a moderate, liberal jurist.

The truly scary thing to contemplate is if Trump wins, odds are that the GOP will keep Congress. And with a Republican in the White House, you can bet they will not waste time ending the last vestiges of the filibuster. They’ve a wish list longer than War and Peace and would love nothing more than to see it become a reality. About the only thing in that scenario that would stop them is the “Freedom Caucus” arguing with the leadership over just how tightly to turn the screws.

I live in a very sparsely populated area, with little infrastructure (the only other place in town besides my house that has an Internet connexion is the village Public Library, there is no public transport, it is miles from anywhere).

I agree with the environmentalist supporters we need to move away from destructive technologies and energy sources. However, they do not address the tens of millions of people just like me who cannot use an electric car because the next town is too far away, or how to raise crops, or provide public transport to an area of 90,000 square miles with a population of maybe 20,000.

“Limousine Environmentalists” (typified by Dr. Jill Stein) do not address the real issues of infrastructure and sparse populations in rural areas (that produce her food).

The nearest city bus is sixty miles from my home. Cell service is available sixteen miles away. My village tried a recycling programme; we got virtually everyone in the village on board with going to a single collection point to collect recyclables. Turned out the company that did it for a year under contract lost money (because we are too far from a city over 1,000 people).

Trump’s bold claims about his new tax plan don’t add up

Trump’s original tax plan proposed having just three tax brackets set at 10, 20, and 25 percent, which would have meant bringing the top rate paid by the wealthiest down from 39.6 percent. The new plan tweaks those levels, bringing them in line with the plan put forward by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and House Republicans, making them instead 12, 25, and 33 percent.

But much of the rest of Trump’s plan remains intact, including reducing the corporate tax rate to 15 percent, the lowest proposed by any Republican who ran this cycle; repealing the estate tax that’s levied on the richest 0.2 percent of Americans; adding “millions” more to the ranks of people who are too poor to owe federal income taxes; and getting rid of carried interest loophole hedge fund managers use to pay lower taxes while still reducing the capital gains tax that allows those who make money from investments to pay a lower rate.

Trump claims that under this updated plan, “The greatest percentage reduction in tax bill goes to lower income taxpayers.” But it’s hard to see how. Under his original proposal, two different analyses found that, with everything taken together, the rich would make off with the most benefits by far. One found that the top fifth of the richest Americans would get more than two-thirds of the benefits, while the poorest fifth would get 0.8 percent. The other found that the top 1 percent would see its income increase the most, by over 21 percent, while the poorest would get the least.

Basic math.

If you’re making between $37k and $90k, you aren’t getting a tax cut. Your rate is stuck in the 25% band. You get a slight break if you’re in the 28% bracket - a 3 point cut, and again in the 33% bracket you get a 8 point cut. But if you’re in the 39.6% bracket, your taxes are chopped by 6.6 points.

This is the kind of screwball math we’ve come to expect from the GOP.

The middle class is widely considered to be between $40-50k and $140k (the Pew definition). IOW, they get shafted by Trump’s plan.

When I stand and salute (as a veteran) for the National Anthem, I am proud a parent can chase her child who gets away, a protester can sit, or a vendor at a parade can still sell beer.

I care about the First Amendment, not empty platitudes from fear-mongering politicians like Steve King who want to deport me.

I cannot recall the quote, but I saw it here: People who do not understand what things like patriotism, manhood or Christianity really mean and stand for are often the ones who cling to the subjective and arbitrary symbols we have come to attach to them (flag lapel pins, guns, Nativity scenes on public property, etc.)

They grow inordinately upset when someone does not treat these arbitrary symbols in the manner they think they are due.

He’s tampering with too many things at once: Quarterbacking while black, “disrespect” of the third verse of the National Anthem, protesting while black, calling out police violence, and not being politically correct.

There’s no way to keep a president from nominating anyone to the Supreme Court. The Senate can vote down the nominee (Bork); the Senate can refuse to even vote on the nominee (Garland), but they can’t stop the President from nominating Incitatus if he wants to.

My picture appears in the local paper every year, which throws the “liberals hate America” statement out the window. It gives my county (and the whole Nebraska Panhandle) a different view of someone slightly to the right of Trotsky.

The village board several years ago made me Flag Committee chairman (charged with ensuring the village flags are properly displayed at full or half-staff, maintained, &c).

The other duty is the annual village parade (a local deal, covered by the local press). As a disabled vet, village board member, and flag committee chairman, I march at the head of the parade, with the National Ensign. (I am flanked by a volunteer who displays the state flag.)

I am out with hair down to my waist, in a three-piece business suit, disabled Navy veteran, wearing my Gold Star Family Pin and a USO hat, marching down the main street at the head of the parade with the flag (every year since 2012).

It is well-known around here just how liberal I am; I would like to think that eases opinions of Democrats and liberals a bit in this uber-conservative part of my state.

Theory: Thiel would be supportive of Trump’s desire to “open up the 1st Amendment and make it easier to sue the media if you don’t like what they write about you.”

The NYT isn’t bothered by this, because they know how much Trump hates Jeff Bezos and they imagine he’ll put WaPo out of business and let NYT be the only newspaper of record. They don’t for a minute believe they’d be on the chopping block too — which they should really reconsider, since Carlos Slim is their biggest shareholder and he’s Mexican and Trump hates him almost as much as he hates Bezos.

So how would they poll an area like this, that only has landlines? Young people have them too, if they want to use the telephone (the alternative is to drive sixteen miles into town to use a cell phone).

That said, I have not been polled by anyone in the four years I’ve lived here.

I’d go further and say it is never time to panic. How does it help? The only thing it can do is freeze you in place so you can’t do the things you otherwise could do to keep the awful thing from happening.

My mom used to work for a doctor who, when patients asked her if they should worry about this or that, always said “don’t worry.” Because however serious it is or isn’t, worrying doesn’t help.

So I try to interrupt the worrying by doing something, as my meme above indicates. Don’t panic. Get out the vote.

That will never happen for minimum 3 reasons: blackmailing someone with the lack of coverage is not how journalism has ever or will ever work; while it’s possible to lessen the coverage, it’s impossible (for an honest journalist) to ignore such a figure altogether, because you have to report at least on the most important events, and the likelihood of Trump being a part of at least one such an event is practically 100% this season; and it might only work if all of them decided to do that at once.

Nope. It’s a cell phone, regardless of whether you move it or not.

The reason it is illegal to call cell phones with telemarketing or robo-calls is many cell companies charge by the byte or by the minute.

It is an extension of the law that made junk faxes illegal in Connecticut. A funny story there: When the state was considering making junk faxes illegal (because the owner has to pay for the paper), the advertising industry ran a campaign to pillory senators’ and representatives’ fax machines with messages to defeat the bill.

That cost the state a whole bunch of money. The junk fax bill sailed through the Connecticut Legislature.

Calling cell phones is based on that idea, that lots of people pay to receive telephone calls or text messages.

I’d just be curious if there’s any mechanism for changing a given number’s status from “land line” to “cell phone” in the phone companies’ lists given the number portability thing that happened a few years ago, and whether the various telemarketing and polling setups get that updated status.

If these stories are still true, that is not an option.

Last week a story in the Ottawa Citizen told the story of 17-year-old Lewis Crowe. Because he has autism the Canadian Government has banned Lewis from living in Canada and in order to visit the country he needs special permission from the immigration department.

To make things worse, his father and stepmother have also been refused permanent resident cards due to the fear that they will bring Lewis with them. This is after the Crowe’s told Canadian Immigration Officials that Lewis would stay with his biological mother in England and has long-term plans to enroll in a residential college for individuals with learning disabilities. The article continues to rip the immigration department for being cruel and cold hearted.

As Lewis’s “autism spectrum disorder might reasonably be expected to cause excessive demand” on Canada’s health and social services, immigration officials ruled he was “inadmissible … on health grounds.”

How many of these so-called patriots stand when they hear the National Anthem on the radio or television? The Flag Code does not differentiate between TV and a football game live. It says you’re supposed to stand.

I’ll bet the number approaches zero. But goddam are they butthurt when someone chooses not to do so when their PC fee-fees are hurt.

Heh…the guys on the Dan Patrick show on NBC Sports were talking about that. They were wondering if it is such a big deal shouldn’t you have to stand up at home too…every time.

One of the dudes said he is usually standing…out in the kitchen grabbing a beer and making a snack.

As we’ve said before…it is forced “going through the motions” rote behavior.

The airwaves were once considered “the commons,” and thus non-partisan and non-advertised news services were the entry price for networks to gain control over various frequencies for broadcast.

The DuMont Television Network (which became Metromedia which was bought by Rupert Murdoch to start FOX when DuMont went bankrupt) broadcast the entire McCarthy hearings commercial-free.

Right. The only polls that don’t use cell phones are the totally automated ones, because robocalls are illegal to cell phones.

Not necessarily. I have a cell phone, but I used my old land line number when I went cell only. Big mistake. I get robo calls all the damn time.

I wish there was a way to make that true.

That story is from 2011. Might still be worth taking a look into.

I tried to click through to find more information and the initial news story isn’t there anymore. However, there’s a number of questions that I have including where on the spectrum the teen in question fell that the story leaves unanswered.

Dem supporters: Why don’t you ask Trump about his tax returns?
Media: We do, he brushes us off. Wont answer.
Dems: Well, keep pushing it.
Media: Nobody cares. It is not an issue.

Grrrrr! They let him get away with murder. If they keep pushing it, it will be NEWS. People will care.

Nobody cares about Hillary’s goddamn emails but that hasn’t stopped media from making a BIG FREAKING THING out of it.

If Trump wins, we’re all fucked, in some way or another, some more, some less, but fucked nevertheless.

Vote for Trump…fuck all!

re: #323 Ziggy_TARDIS

Five year old blog post, which does not correlate with Canadian immigration law.

cic.gc.ca

Your refugee claim may not be eligible for referral to the IRB if:

You have been recognized as a Convention refugee by another country to which you can return;
You have already been granted protected person status in Canada;
You arrived via the Canada-United States border;
You are not admissible to Canada on security grounds, or because of criminal activity or human rights violations;
You made a previous refugee claim that was found to be ineligible for referral to the IRB;
You made a previous refugee claim that was rejected by the IRB; or
You abandoned or withdrew a previous refugee claim.

Please see the IRB website to find out more about making an asylum claim in Canada.

In addition, people who are subject to a removal order cannot make a refugee claim.

Note: This is from the Canadian government, not a blog. Canada does not ban people from immigration due to disability. Canada’s only concern is if you would become a drain on its social welfare net (note Sarah Palin used Canada’s health care system while governor of Alaska).

While “the media”, as an aggregate, isn’t Clinton’s friend, they sure aren’t Trump’s.

They may not be his friend, but he is a master of manipulating them. Just look how he handled this “health” issue. Going to dr oz, making a spectacle, dragging out the “suspense”. The MSM has been absolutely breathless in the coverage.
