Video: Obama Fired Up: “Read Up on Your History - Your Vote Matters!”

Politics • Views: 59,651

President Obama spoke to the Congressional Black Caucus yesterday, with some powerful remarks about the urgent need to get as many people out to vote as possible in this election. This is a must-see for anyone tempted to think their vote doesn’t matter. It matters.

Here’s the full speech; there’s also a great segment starting at about 5:10 when he mocks Donald Trump’s Birther obsession.

President Obama is so right. Look how much effort and resources Republicans have put towards suppressing the African American vote. Donate. Make calls. Vote.

Not sure if this is the same thing folks were calling the “manifesto” but apparently the tumblr account claiming credit for the NYC explosion is a hoax.

rawstory.com

According to the Associated Press, federal investigators dismissed the website’s claims, which said that the explosion was intended as a protest against society’s treatment of LGBT people.

Thanks for running the Black Caucus from last night, Charles. I’m constantly amazed by our president’s ease at cutting through the negative bullshit of what the media tells us is our culture. The man might’ve been a sword sharpener in a previous life.

“…Donald Trump took time out of his busy schedule of conspiracy promotion and disavowal to write a letter to America’s anti-abortion leaders, making some new firm promises about what he’ll do on abortion should he be elected president in 53 days:

“I am committed to:
Nominating pro-life justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Signing into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would end painful late-term abortions nationwide.
Defunding Planned Parenthood as long as they continue to perform abortions…
Making the Hyde Amendment permanent law to protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions.”

Well, I was gonna post this downstairs in response to jaunte’s #150, but by the time I got around to it there was a new thread. That said, given the subject matter of this new thread, I think it’s not too far OT.

Last weekend I was (re)reading some of the southern states’ declarations of causes for secession. Of the ones I read (Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia), every single one of them mentioned slavery as a primary cause:

Georgia: 34 times—slave/slaves, anti-slavery, non-slave-holding, etc.
Mississippi: 7 times—same forms as above.
South Carolina: 18 times—same forms as above plus slaveholding/non-slaveholding.
Texas: 22 times—same forms as above.
Virginia: They only mentioned it one time, however they made up for it with a big whine about the federal government having perverted its Constitutional powers “not only to the injury of the people of Virginia, but to the oppression of the Southern Slaveholding States.” (Source: civilwar.org)

Oh noes! Why does no one care about the delicate fee-fees of the poor oppressed white people? Sound familiar?

The one I found the most obnoxious was Texas, though. It was so… I can’t even… it makes my head want to explode just thinking about it. Read it for yourselves:

“Beneficent” slavery and “the debasing doctrine of equality of all men,” regardless of race. “Undeniable truths” and governments established “exclusively” by and for the white race. The African race “rightfully held” and regarded as inferior. “Servitude” is not only “mutually beneficial,” but also “abundantly authorized and justified” by mankind, God, and “all Christian nations.”

But the Civil War wasn’t about slavery and the Confederate flag isn’t racist, YOU’RE the racist so SHUT UP, libtard!!11!

Yeah, try pulling that bullshit on someone else, m’kay? Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go scream into a pillow, possibly followed by a shower in hot bleach to try to scrub off the filthy feeling all this gives me because this is precisely the sick fucking mentality the Orange Vulgarian is appealing to and siding with.

I should be working, but instead have been pondering this:

The media made a big show of their disgust with Trump’s Friday bullshit. When he wouldn’t let anyone but photographers and video crew go on the tour, they got together and destroyed the footage, vowing to never air it. So, here’s what I’ve been pondering—

Suppose they’d allowed the reporters to go on the tour? First of all, that would not have assured that Trump would have answered any questions—hell, it was supposed to be a press conference to begin with and he took no questions.

So, they follow him through the hotel, asking questions that do or don’t get answered—what news value would any of the footage have had in any case? If he’d allowed them to puppy-dog follow him, would they have run endless free promotional footage for his hotel? Why did any of them agree to go on the tour in the first place?

Arrggh—is it November 9th yet?

If you’re wondering why Clinton needs to talk about Donald Trump as well as her stuff, I just had a friend over. We talked about politics for a bit, and she said “at first, I supported Donald Trump because he is a businessman.” My friend is originally from Colombia. She said Trump’s statements have made it through the Latin American community, and the pictures about him floating around are not very nice.

My point being that a lot of people need to hear about Trump as well as about Clinton’s stances. As we’ve seen, she can’t always count on the media to do it for her. There are people who hear “businessman” and think that he’s successful solely because he’s been around for a while, and that a businessman is what we need for government. Lot’s of people will need to be told about him.

Good evening fellow Lizards, been a long weekend, yesterday I built my temple of cue (first pic) then today with help from my brother-in-law I built a pergola to replace the cheap gazebo we had (and I am kicking myself for not doing THAT yesterday and doing the grill gazebo today with help since the gazebo for the grill was a lot of work). Now that it’s all done, decided to grill some NY strips rubbed with blackened seasoning and topped with some blue cheese during the last couple minutes, sweet potatoes with cinnamon butter and fresh cut green beans steamed with garlic salt.

They demand the abolition of negro slavery throughout the confederacy…

The (original) 13th Amendment, guaranteeing in perpetuity the survival of slavery in every state where it already existed, passed both Houses of Congress and would certainly have been ratified. The present-day Republican party is founded on the willing acceptance of fantastic and constantly changing lies.

That is why Trump won the GOP primary.

Frum is one of a dying breed, supporting a Republican party that long ago ceased to exist. He lives in this fantasy world where the GOP is just one bad turn from snapping back to its senses, kicking out the crazies, and becoming the party of wealthy interests again rather than a Klan meeting where the members have custom-tailored sheets.

His supporters already know he’s a pathological liar, and they don’t give a shit - in fact, the greater his lies, the greater their slavish bully-worship (namely because they think he’s lying for them rather than to them).
