And now this:

EXCLUSIVE: NY Attorney General’s Probe Of Trump Foundation Appears To Widen

The New York attorney general’s investigation of the Donald J. Trump Foundation appears to have broadened to include new allegations of self-dealing by Trump that surfaced after the probe began, TPM has learned.

The town of Palm Beach, Florida, has provided documents to the New York Attorney General’s Office as part of the probe, a lawyer for the town confirmed to TPM on Wednesday. The documents relate to a legal dispute that Trump settled with the town using foundation money. The details of the 2007 Palm Beach case were first reported by the Washington Post last week.

“The New York Attorney General’s Office did contact me in regard to this matter,” John Randolph, the Palm Beach town attorney, told TPM Wednesday evening. “I just sent them the documents that I had previously sent to the Washington Post.”

Is she on a GameBoy?

She was a Tetris fan apparently:

Clinton reportedly had an affinity for the Game Boy version of Tetris, according to a 2002 New York Times article. And in an interview with Time magazine (PDF) right around the time the newly released photo was taken, Clinton said she’d “become quite a fan of Gameboy [sic].” She told Time that she’d purchased her own Game Boy, so that she’d no longer have to share with daughter Chelsea.

I just realized that Trump is a better GOP unity candidate than I had thought.

For decades the Republican party has been a bunch of resentful rubes managed by rich Chamber of Commerce sociopaths who exploited the votes of the resentful to lower their taxes.

Trump personally exemplifies both parts of this formula. Even though Trump is a rich sociopath, his personal resentment of progress in the US helps him communicate with the pig-people in ways that Romney and McCain simply couldn’t.

Also, there’s this business where Obama showed his work (i.e., the message explaining the veto). If the GOP Congress was too eager to score the “political victory” of a veto override to read the damn message, that says more about Congress than the President.

What’s even more baffling is that all Senate Democrats (except for Reid) went along with the Republicans for this override. Hell, Franken (among others) even co-sponsored the Senate bill, FFS; for such a policy wonk, I would think that he would be able to see that this bill was a very bad idea.

The worst cause in American history for which people have fought remains the Confederacy, and second place isn’t close.

However, we’re now living with that second-worst cause in American history, and it is a real stinker: Movement conservatism as instantiated in the Republican party.

Its operation (i.e. rich sociopaths stoking resentments in rubes for easy votes) is shitty.

Its fundamental purpose (reducing taxes on the rich sociopaths) is shitty.

Its main message (hate and fear the ‘other’) is shitty.

Its core propaganda (believe what you want, objective reality is liberal BS) is shitty.

Its collateral damage (rising white nationalism and neo-Confederacy in the US) is shitty.

Its ‘foreign policy’ (obey the US or else) is shitty.

Its office holders (McConnell, Ryan, Roberts, Alito, Thomas etc.) are shitty.

Its candidates (Trump and the rest of the GOP POTUS clown cars) are shitty.

I don’t know Franken’s motivations, but the law contains a provision that allows the State Department to stop any lawsuit. More importantly, though, I’m actually OK with the Democrats going along with it. McConnell and Co were hoping to use this against the Democrats. But they can’t; they can’t use it against Obama because he’s not running, and they can’t use it against Democrats because they voted for it. Notice who’s missing from any news about it: Democrats. This is all on McConnell’s shoulders.

Come on, you know better than that. Once he realizes he can’t get anywhere blaming the President, he’ll turn around and insist that Democrats bear equal responsibility for anything bad that happens. The GOP will take somebody with them when this plane smacks into the ground.

Having seen the history of things like this, Democrats had zero to gain by opposing it. Who would have to do the explaining? Republicans, who are only supporting families who deserve to be compensated by countries that support terror (meant to be read in your best sympathy voice)? Or Democrats, who will have to explain why a bill allowing people to sue other countries could have consequences for the United States? I guarantee you most of the country would not understand the geopolitical ramifications of the bill.

The final consequence of politics according to “when you’re explaining, you’re losing” is interminable rule by Republicans. There needs to be a longer term strategy by Democrats to communicate with voters.

This Twitter thread does an excellent job of debunking the “If Trump wins, it’s Hillary’s fault, not mine!” argument:

AND it has the benefit of the correct use of ‘Begging the question’. I couldn’t get it to thread properly, so here’s a transcription:

1. The “logic” if I can follow it, is: If she can’t beat Trump, that’s pathetic! That’s not on me! That’s on her! This is question begging

2. She is asking for your vote, and you refuse to give it, because…you refuse to give it? You’re in a circle.

3. You are the lack of support you’re citing to justify your lack of support. This circle is pathetic enough. But where does it come from?

4. It comes from a peculiar form of market narcissism. Everyone else is an actor in the system, I am its neutral observer.

5. Only after I observe the political reality, do I deign to make a political choice, which is forced on me by what I’ve neutrally observed.

6. What utter crap.

7. For all the zogged-out citations of “neoliberalism” by the left, this is neoliberalism on steroids.

8. You are not a neutral observer, you are a citizen with a political conscience, as enacted in the world by your political will.

9. Has this been grossly attenuated by “neoliberalism”? Of course it has.

10. For evidence of this attenuation, look no further than your own refusal to stop a truly miserable outcome while you say, smugly,”Well, I will have had nothing to do w/it”

The Detroit News endorses Gary Johnson for President.

VB…you have some asses to kick for us all!!!

The Detroit News - Endorsement: Libertarian Gary Johnson for president

Today this newspaper does something it has never done in its 143-year history: endorse someone other than the Republican candidate in a presidential contest.

Since its founding in 1873, The Detroit News has backed a Republican every time it has made a presidential endorsement (three times we have sat on the sidelines — twice during the Franklin Roosevelt elections and in the 2004 Bush/Kerry contest).

We abandon that long and estimable tradition this year for one reason: Donald J. Trump.

The 2016 nominee offered by the Republican Party rubs hard against the editorial board’s values as conservatives and Americans. Donald Trump is unprincipled, unstable and quite possibly dangerous. He can not be president.

His Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, has an impressive resume and a presidential bearing. And although we disagree with her nearly across the board on the issues, we acknowledge she has the temperament to be commander-in-chief and leader of both a diverse nation and the free world.

But character matters. Her career-long struggles with honesty and ethics and calculating, self-serving approach to politics trouble us deeply.

So we find ourselves in the same position as a vast number of voters in looking for an option other than skipping the presidential portion of the ballot.

Gary Johnson meets that need. We recognize the Libertarian candidate is the longest of long shots with an electorate that has been conditioned to believe only Republicans and Democrats can win major offices.

Votes have real world consequences, so I’m inclined to give no weight at all to someone’s intent if they vote 3rd party while pretending to oppose Trump.

It’s an objective fact that voting 3rd party is half-assing the job of opposing Trump.

I also don’t see the benefit of protest votes in safe (D) states. Opposing Trump means giving his real opponent (i.e. Clinton) the largest possible mandate so that the Democrats can try to put the country back together after Trump’s loss.

Yeah, but here we’re getting into questions of opinion, which is what I specifically avoided in the discussion with my brother - not that I got any fucking credit for it!

That’s why I wrote on the last thread about wanting JUST ONCE to meet a 3rd party voter willing to accept responsibility for potentially allowing Trump to become President. OK, this has been bugging me, so I finally paged it:

I think that Trump may be exhibiting the warning signs of early-onset dementia.

—His constant word salad is indicative of a mind fumbling for words and phrases
—He starts off answering one question and then loses his train of thought
—He is prone to irrational outbursts of temper over small matters and has sudden and dramatic mood swings
—He can’t concentrate (or practice) for very long
—He can’t remember things he himself said only days (or seconds) prior
—He can’t process new information, gets lost, and then falls back on something old & familiar, even if it has been proven to be untrue

There’s a lot more there.

If Trump was a normal 70-year-old man at an eldercare facility, he’d have the little orange circle warning sticker next to his name on his chart.

I know, I know. Long-distance diagnosis is incredibly inaccurate. But there are a lot of symptoms that line up here.

re: #184 Khal Wimpo (no longer entitled to his own facts)
