OK, I’ve taken a few shots for doing “Remote Diagnosis” on Trump, which is what we bonk the GOP for doing to Hillary. And I get that. It was not without a degree of trepidation that I broached the subject hereabouts.

But.

(from a response on my page about Trump & dementia)

Look, stumbling and falling into a van while suffering from pneumonia, taken as evidence of AIDS, Parkinson’s, leprosy, brain syphilis, whatever … or the shimmy as evidence of St. Vitus’ Dance … these are all taking an isolated incident, and attempting to extrapolate a larger narrative out of it.

What I was hoping to accomplish here was to take the larger narrative - that of the persistent, omnipresent patters of Trump’s behavior, and drill down to the specific causes for the exterior manifestations.

Also. I did have a disclaimer on this. But yeah, I acknowledge that remote diagnosis is not, and should not be definitive.

But again - part & parcel of the GOP’s approach to their political opponents, is to accuse them of the failings that they themselves exhibit. Accuse your opponents of your own weakness - going right back to the “Al Gore invented the internet” to defuse the intelligence gap with Bush … or “John Kerry was a lying coward” to defuse the Bush draft-dodging.

(small voice) MIght it not be possible that the Trump camp operatives have seized upon the health issues that are pretty much illusory for Hillary, and instead tried to do a pre-emptive strike, so that if/when Trump’s mental failings come out, it sounds like just more political blather? And where is his health report from a reputable doctor, anyway?

That swarm happened a few days ago.

Bottom line is this: The Salton Sea region is part of the larger Andreas fault system and is known be quite active. Anyone who lives on or near this fault system must accept that the “big one” can happen at any time.

Mostly we just put his out of our daily thoughts.

Every time the Congressional GOP has needed a reason to avoid taking a vote on a bill, what have they done? “The President didn’t make the case for it!” Now the President made a pretty clear case against this bill, up to vetoing it and returning the bill with a strongly-worded statement on why. So what do they do? Blame him for not telling them how bad the bill would be.

That is an extremely well thought out and written article that gives me much to think about. As an old retired broad my exposure to young adults is limited to a very few. When I start to discuss politics and the election I see them start to squirm, anxious to change the subject. They just don’t care. It’s boring. It doesn’t affect them. When I try to point out the many ways it DOES affect them and very directly, they just shut down. Like “yeah, I know. Got any more rum?” (I am not above bribery.) As a retired educator, I know better than to lecture but instead to try to draw them in with their own experiences to make the connections meaningful to them. I have yet to find a successful hook. Your observations may help.

It’s so frustrating, especially with the young women for whom this election could be literally life or death for them. When I tell them of the horrors of pre-Roe v Wade, they see that as back in the olden days and hey, that’s settled. They simply cannot conceive (no pun intended) that this can all be lost and quickly.

OT, but I did find out that we should be finding out more about the remake of Final Fantasy VII in December at the PSX event in Japan.

The game will be split into 3 pieces, with rumors saying the first will be released either 2017 or 2018. The last will be released in 2019-2020. Other than that things are contradictory. Some have said there will be a perspective change between games.

Some definites from before. The Cross-Dressing sequence is going to stay. And things should not be too different.

I will also give an estimate of Final Fantasy XV. I think it has the potential to be the best Final Fantasy since X. However, I don’t think it will be able to surpass VII, VIII, or X.

It’s because he’s a misogynist of the first order. To him every woman’s identity is defined by her husband (or a need for one). It’s why his infidelity is her failure, at the core her failure as a woman at the only job she’s on the planet to do: make a man happy. There is nothing else.

Ayep. As for wingnuts, I think its a combination of that and the grudge they’ve been nursing since ‘98, when they thought they had him right where they wanted him and he instead turned the tables on them and walked out of office as one of the most respected presidents in recent memory.

Thinking about this further, this could be exactly the opportunity she needs to “humanize” herself, as the pundits all say she needs to. Talk about her feelings of betrayal and heartbreak, choosing between losing everything she and Bill had ever worked for all those years, breaking up their family, devastating their young daughter or doing the hard work to salvage and rebuild. She and Bill chose the latter, working together with honesty and faith, rebuilding trust through the love they had for each other and their daughter.

I suspect this may be the trap. Trump can only come off looking like the asshole and bully that he is.

He’s been self destructing this whole time, but we’ve gotten endless non-stories about the Clinton Foundation, bullshit health scares and emails to distract from it. Remember how we kept hearing there was going to be a pivot, but it never really occurred and he’d often revert back to ever worsening racist nonsense? In the trip to Mexico it came within the same day. The difference in the conventions was so stark that the media bent over backwards for two months trying to normalize him and pounce on everything Clinton did. It worked to an extent in tightening the polls but seeing the two on stage together just renewed the monumental contrast in optics, poise, experience and leadership. Now he’s freaking out because his people are freaking out and he doesn’t know how to deal with adversity except through denial and projection.

Day ending in ‘y’ so there must be a police coverup underway:

Downs said footage from D.C. Police Officer Brian Trainer’s body camera that was not shared with public raises questions about the priorities of the police.

“The footage that was shown to my office and the family was approximately one minute more than the footage that was released to the public,” Downs said. “And on the footage that was shown to the family, there was a clear indication that a police union representative showed up to the scene, identified herself as a union representative to Officer Trainer and suggested that Officer Trainer turn off his body camera.”

You hear others at the scene tell Officer Trainer, a 4-year veteran who fired his service weapon that killed Sterling, to get away from the scene and that is when the video disseminated to the public cuts off.

a calming perspective from electoral-vote.com

If Clinton can hold the 242 electoral votes in the “blue wall” states (and there is no evidence that she will lose any of them), the 28 EVs from Virginia and North Carolina add up to 270, so she can lose Ohio, Florida, and all the other swing states and still win.

there hasn’t been a single day in 2016 when Clinton was below 270 and not a single day when Trump was at 270 or more.

I dunno: I don’t find that seeing Mrs. Clinton’s “floor” - at this point in the campaign - is only 242 EVs all that “calming” a prospect. Especially given that the Republicans have chosen to run what has to be the most spectacularly unfit candidate for office in American history. This election should be a blowout, but it won’t be: a depressing enough notion. A “blue wall” of about 375 EVs? Now that would be calming…

Greets and saluts from the soggy NYC metro area. NJ Transit is still FUBAR because of yesterday’s crash in Hoboken, so the Mrs. will be joining me at the lair for the day working from home.

Not the worst thing in the world.

What’s pretty bad is that it’s likely that yesterday’s crash could have been mitigated or prevented had PTC been in place. If there was a medical issue or the engineer had issues (texting, distracted, etc.) PTC would have kicked in to slow/stop the train since it’s clear that the train was going 3x the posted speed entering the terminal building area.

It’s going to be a few days before they can secure the building and demolish/stabilize the structure so they can access the head car (control car) and begin the process of removing the train from the scene. In the meantime, that means that NJ Transit lines will be screwed for the foreseeable future.

Now, PTC is a controversial thing. It’s been touted by the NTSB for about 20 years as a way to prevent these kinds of incidents, but the railroad indusry has fought against it. They were supposed to have until 1/1/2016 to implement, but Congress again extended the deadline to 2018.

NJ Transit has not only dragged its feet, but has apparently only a handful of trains and a few miles of track that have been prepped for PTC as a test. It’s not even clear NJ Transit will make the 2018 deadline.

And you know who else we can blame for that? Gov. Chris Christie (R: Toadie - Trump). He’s enabled and allowed the Transportation Trust Fund to go belly up, and that’s meant NJ Transit has to freeze capital construction plans, which means further delaying any work on PTC. As it is, the current budget doesn’t have PTC included but delayed projects include adding in-board and out-board cameras on trains. The train in yesterday’s incident had an in-board camera.

So why is Christie blocking the TTF from being properly funded? Because he and the state GOP are demanding that any gas tax hike be offset by an estate tax repeal. In other words, they’re pushing the same GOP plans they’re doing elsewhere - seeking tax cuts for a wealthy few, and shifting tax burdens on to everyone else.

Gas tax hikes aren’t a preferred option, since they’re regressive, but NJ has one of the lowest gas taxes in the US and it hasn’t been raised in decades. It doesn’t even get increased to give it the purchasing power it had back when it was last raised. But NJ Transit has had to repeatedly raise fares in the intervening years, shifting the burden on to the hundreds of thousands of commuters who rely on the trains and buses to get to and from work - powering the NJ economy.

This is what Christie has wrought.

This is ultimately on him and the GOP.

So, when Trump brings up the infrastructure spending and need to do more, he better be prepared to answer for this too. Because it’s coming.

The EC is gamed considering that many states have built in advantages to one party or the other.

There’s few states that are truly up for grabs, even though one candidate is spectacularly unfit for office. It’s unlikely that we’d see the kind of electoral college blowout that this should result in.

That Clinton’s pretty much got as many states as she has, and has locked in the battleground states as favoring her, she’s given herself multiple paths to the win. Trump’s path to 270 is becoming ever more impossible. If he can’t take the battleground states, there’s simply not enough delegates elsewhere to make up. Clinton’s firewall is unassailable at this point.

Trump’s worried about a rearguard action at this point where he’s got to defend states that should be wrapped up by GOPers ordinarily. He’s putting states into play for Clinton.

Trump doesn’t have his own ground game. He’s piggybacking on the GOP general GOTV, which isn’t nearly as focused or prepared to do that kind of thing in favor of a national candidate.

Clinton’s ground game has learned lessons from Obama’s own ground game in 2008 and 2012, including when he beat her in the primaries.

I’m sure she’s worried about the fact that latest polls from FL show her up on Trump - and actually ahead of Obama’s margin of victory in the state in 2012; and the post debate polls seem to show her widening her lead (pushing her past Obama’s 2.8 margin of victory).

Oh goodie. Got a live one on Twitter who’s discussing what is and isn’t rational when it comes to Trump. Arguing that attacking Trump on his business dealings is somehow irrational.

Seriously.

This isn’t a reasonable minds may differ. This is ignoring objective facts. Trump’s net worth is whatever he feels (as per deposition). That’s not GAAP. That’s BS. He inherited his real estate fortune. What he’s done since is a con-man using other people’s money to make himself richer. He doesn’t pay employees or contractors the payments he’s contractually obligated to pay. That’s come through in multiple lawsuits, even against his law firms - arguing he just doesn’t want to pay as much because that’s how he feels.

He’s bankrupted other companies who’ve worked for him because of nonpayment and litigating payments - all while he’s bankrupted his casinos and other businesses multiple times. That doesn’t count all the other failed businesses.

Oh, and about the 100s of businesses. He actually has several distinct clear businesses. He’s got a real estate business - which has multiple close corporations, pass through entities (LLCs, partnerships, LLPs) that all do the same thing - manage his real estate business and individual projects. He’s got a trademark business, which he licenses his “name” to others to slap on to their projects.

He’s got his tv business. That’s a showman, not an actual business.

He’s had an airline, casinos, and liquor and steaks. All those folded.

Yeah, people around here start saying “on line”, I’m moving.//

Not as bad as all the Californians who move up here and stick a “the” in front of everything: “The I-5”, “The Puget Sound”.

My sister, whom I love dearly, moved up to Washington some years ago says this. Although we grew up in the Central Valley, where ‘the’ isn’t a prefix to every highway, she spent some time in SoCal and picked up that habit. I’ve learned to live with it but it does make me feel stabby at times.

I should have listened to you. These paragraphs pissed me off:

The vast majority of millennials were not old enough to vote in 2000, when Ralph Nader ran as the Green Party nominee and, with the strong backing of young voters, helped cost Vice President Al Gore the presidency.

“Ralph who?” said David Frasier, a junior at Charleston Southern University.

“Didn’t he kind of come in at the last minute and kind of alter the votes or something?” Mr. Frasier, 26, asked, his memory barely jogged. “I was too young to remember.”

Really? You’re going to condescendingly mock someone for not remembering an election from when they were 10 years old?

What’s more important is that three days after his complete failure in the debate, Drumpf had a Mental Collapse.

The episode last night wasn’t just odd. It was Full-on Bull Moose Loony Tunes Insanity.

It was a shit slinging psychic break. It was Al Capone with a baseball bat crazy. It was Norman dressed like his mom with a knife in Psycho completely losing it.

On the one hand, it was nice, because it exposes the eternal 7th-grader for what he is. On the other hand, it’s terrifying because it exposes the eternal 7th-grader for what he is- a petulant, simpering, out-of-control id.

This was, quite simply, a real, live, festering madman. His moral fiber is a tub of goo.

Those four tweets are going to do it. That’s all the suburban moms needed to see. No-one stays up that late to spew that bile except for monsters under their childrens’ beds.

He just shot himself, we win, it’s over.

Watch for how the Congress-critters and eligible Senators and especially the Republican Leadership reacts today. It’s going to be brutal but delicious.

The issue of an Alicia Machado sex tape has already been debunked by Snopes, in other words, Donald Trump lied.

Ms. Machado did pose topless for Playboy, which is no different than what Melania Trump did.

As for North Carolina’s “papers please” bathroom bill, that inspired a retired Navy captain to run against its author for the North Carolina House seat he holds.

She was too late under North Carolina law to register under a party, so she will be listed on the ballot as unaffiliated. The North Carolina Democratic Party has endorsed her.

I do find it interesting that the polls show a lot of people in that situation: “I am not voting for Trump, but if I can find a way I won’t vote for Clinton.” We see that because when people are asked to choose in a two way race, Clinton picks up most of the third party support. I don’t think we have to count on them, but I’m really hoping they will vote for her on election day because the thought of Trump being president is just too much.

Johnson made it even more weird for him by saying he was having an Aleppo moment. But yeah I don’t get it either. Honestly, only one of these four candidates is taking this damn thing seriously and too many in our generation have this weird stick in their ass against her. Clinton by no means is perfect but she’s a lot more prepared to be President not to mention better on the issues than the other three.

re: #119 Jay C

I dunno: I don’t find that seeing Mrs. Clinton’s “floor” - at this point in the campaign - is only 242 EVs all that “calming” a prospect. Especially given that the Republicans have chosen to run what has to be the most spectacularly unfit candidate for office in American history. This election should be a blowout, but it won’t be: a depressing enough notion. A “blue wall” of about 375 EVs? Now that would be calming…

And that’s not taking into consideration that Russia has been playing around with voter rolls and, god forbid if it is happening, voting machines.

Lester Holt reported on it last night.

It’s hard to hack 375. It’s a lot easier to hack 280 even.

The more I see from Johnson, the more I am just not impressed at all. At first, I thought he was a bit loony giving how Libertarians tend to be but had something of a decent head on his shoulders but he’s had a lot of WTF moments. Buzzfeed brought another one to my attention today that I did not know about him and global warming. Furthermore, I do not get how left leaning voters can be so attracted to him. Okay, Gary supports SSM and is okay with pot. He’s also crazy right wing on economics.

I don’t think it’s they know nothing about Johnson. I think Johnson gets away with like so many Libertarians do by having an abstract message about what freedom and liberty is. And that sort of thing unfortunately is attractive to younger voters who I hate to say don’t read beyond the fine print. That is they ignore that while Gary Johnson and the LP oppose the federal drug war, they’re theoretically okay with your state having dracoian punishments for drug possession and their views on economics- holy shit.

Third parties are the best:

June 6 — Boosting his friend George W. Bush to reporters, Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico recalls a conversation they had at a conference on state government. ”George turns to me and says, ‘What are they talking about?’ I said, ‘I don’t know.’ He said, ‘You don’t know a thing, do you?’ And I said, ‘Not one thing.’ He said, ‘Neither do I.’ And we kind of high-fived.”

The problem I see with so many third parties is they view elections as the Presidency or bust. I really don’t see them at the local elections trying to work hard to get elected on the local level to prove that their way can work. In grudging fairness to the LP, I have seen more from them in this than the Greens who I don’t think I have ever seen seriously seek an office here in Virginia. The other thing is as our executive branch positions- Governor, Lt Governor, and Attorney General are all elected independently of each other, you’d think these parties would run candidates for the other positions as well but nope last time we only had Dems and Republicans running for Lt Governor and AG.

That is true. I will say the Libertarians are better than the Greens when it comes to organization. Honestly, the whole party does confuse me since there are some who share a lot of my socially liberal/progressive beliefs about LGBT rights, drugs, choice, immigration etc and others who are just as socially conservative as the GOP but see Libertarianism as a way to have zero government regulation of business. Reading about the LP convention was interesting.

Hillary Clinton’s use of a former Miss Universe winner to attack Donald Trump resembles her handling of the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, according to former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

“This is the new Benghazi lie,” he said Thursday on “The Sean Hannity Show,” as first reported by BuzzFeed.

“What Hillary tried to set up and what they apparently spent months preparing is an ambush as false as Benghazi,” Gingrich said of Clinton’s defense of Alicia Machado.

“It was as false as her claim she was under fire in in Bosnia. It was as false as the lies she told on her emails. The elite media, which is Clinton, I mean, they totally identify with her, they took it hook, line and sinker.”

During an MSNBC interview later Friday morning, Trump surrogate and Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge (R) was asked by host Stephanie Ruhle whether she thinks it’s “a good strategy” for Trump to use his extra hours of wakefulness to smear women.

Rutledge, who’s is also a member of Trump’s agriculture advisory committee, responded by saying she’s “a fan of tweeting during the waking hours of most folks and so I’m not up tweeting at 3 a.m. generally, so I don’t know that that’s great advice.”

But Rutledge then suggested that perhaps Trump is just so interested in the “issues” that he can’t wait to get up and start weighing in.

“Perhaps there are people up interested in issues at 3 a.m.” she said.

in any event they were emancipated in 186x so they were free to do anything

President Obama held Gates over from the Bush era probably to tout his bipartisan credentials. Gates was listed as a Republican. He is as much a Republican as is Colin Powell - or as Obama is bipartisan. Obama knew Gates would be a willing ally in fundamentally transforming the military (as part of transforming America) from the ass-kicking outfit he inherited to the girly men can kickers it has become. Obama promised to disarm America to a level acceptable to Islam! He did, and Gates was a willing ally.

On Memorial Day here in my village, we had a retired Navy commander who came to speak at the village cemetery (he’d just retired and returned home to the next town over).

He droned on and on about how the Obama administration was destroying the country’s values by “pandering to gays” and promoting crime in women’s bathrooms.

The guy is considering running for the county board of supervisors. At the next village board meeting, I condemned his speech as dishonour to all those killed in combat and buried in our village cemetery, and by extension all veterans and families here for politicising what is supposed to be a solemn event.

He will not be invited back to our town for any more speeches. In the meantime, if he does run for the county board of supervisors, I am considering throwing my fedora into the ring against him.

My wife was a Libertarian for thirty years. (She was ionce a campaign treasurer for a Libertarian candidate for the Colorado House. She switched to the Democratic Party this year and is working on a new Website for our county Democratic Party - I guess I rubbed off on her after seven years.)

She thinks Gary Johnson is absolutely unqualified to be President, or pretty much any other office.

At this point, I am trying real hard to figure out what Johnson would be qualified for. He even gives stoners a bad name.

I heard Joke Scarborough say it early in his show the other day…something about how he knows guys that ARE stoners, smoke refer all day long and have for all their lives and they could answer the questions that Johnson can’t.

If anyone wants to understand how Trump became viable in Republican circles, I really would recommend reading Rick Perlstein’s books. I’ve only read Nixonland but the man has a great understanding of the post WWII American right and what’s allowed it to rise when it looked like it was in ashes after Goldwater’s defeat in 1964.

Alicia Machado has responded to Trump (Daily Kos link). Here’s the English translation of her statement:

The Republican candidate and his campaign team are again generating new attacks and insults and trying to revive old defamations and false accusations about my life. They’re doing all this with the goal of intimidating, humiliating, and throwing me off balance yet again. The attacks are nothing but slander and cheap lies generated with ill intentions, that have no basis and have been distributed by tabloids. Of course, this isn’t the first time I’ve encountered a situation like this. Via his hateful campaign, the Republican candidate insists on discrediting and demoralizing a woman, which is emblematic of his most frightening characteristics. Through this, he seeks to distract attention away from his real problems, and from his inability to even pretend to be the leader of this great country.

I dare Republicans to scream about her wearing a flag in the picture at the link.

If Trump accomplishes anything, he just may make Hispanic voters as strong members of the Democratic coalition as African-Americans are. No wonder why Republicans are so opposed to immigration reform. They know that being dicks to Hispanics has hurt them immensely with that community and know those voters aren’t going to forget things like Trump’s attacks on Judge Curiel and now Alicia Machado. Somewhere George W. Bush and Karl Rove are going ballistic because they saw Hispanics as possibilities for the GOP coalition.

Inside Donald Trump’s Twitter army:

politico.com

More at the Politico link above:

When Donald Trump confronted revelations that he used money from his charitable foundation to settle private legal disputes and purchase portraits of himself, a tireless army of tweeters went to work to keep the focus on Hillary Clinton’s foundation instead.

Then Trump stumbled on a debate question about why he refuses to release his taxes, and the same army has since rushed to create the appearance of a grass-roots demand that Clinton be held accountable, instead.

@Rage_and_War tweeted “Trump’s Taxes? Audit the Clinton Foundation!” with a link to a blog post suggesting the same. @Flossy_gurl tweeted, “CORRUPT #FBI #JamesComey Received Million$ From #ClintonFoundation- Brother’s Law Firm Does #Clinton’s Taxes.” And @Luminaria98 tweeted, “Hillary Clinton’s Philanthropic Controversy: The Clinton Foundation,” with a link to a critical article.

The accounts pumping out the tweets created the appearance of authentic outrage but had all the hallmarks of fakes, according to researchers who specialize in “bot” networks — short for robot — that shower social media with phony messages appearing to spring up from the grass roots.

Doing some sleuthing before I hit the hay. The “sex tape” that Trump and his drooling minions are referring to was one scene from a blurry night vision video from a Spanish reality show, La Granja VIP. The premise of the show is to send rich, city folk to a farm in the sticks and film what happens there. Anyway, Machado, who was wearing a nightgown, got in bed with a male co-star and they did the horizontal bop under the covers. Whether it was real or simulated is debatable, though Machado apparently admitted it was the real thing later.

There was no nudity on the video, which was shown on Spanish TV. And it’s been on YouTube since 2010 at least. So, it’s hardly XXX rated. Even so, I’m borking the link in case of NSFW issues. Remove the space before com.

youtube. com/watch?v=3h7rWkSq2cE

Anyone who has watched cable TV or gone to the movies to see an R rated movie would have seen activity more graphic than in this video.

The other sex video being referred to is of course a pron movie starring Angel Dark, who is not Alicia Machado.

Your students are getting a real time history lesson. They won’t have to read any books about this one. Hopefully they will also be able to see how this ties in to so much of past history and that always big lesson…history can and will repeat itself.

Somewhere George W. Bush and Karl Rove are going ballistic because they saw Hispanics as possibilities for the GOP coalition.

Hispanics are rather strongly Catholic and highly family oriented.Naturals for the Conservative Coalition, but Hispanics also favor institutions that help families, like strong communities, local governments, good education and active public services.

So yeah, best to write ‘em off.

re: #464 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

I just saw a Tweet from somebody with “Deplorable” in their screen name, which featured a screenshot from the Angel Dark video with Alicia Marchado’s head Photoshopped over it.

No not embedding and I already blocked that creep.

Here is a longer clip. It begins with the reality stars celebrating a Mexican fiesta (and apparently drinking tequila shots). The women watching the proceedings on the right hand of the split screen are I think the mothers of the reality stars. Yes, really.

There’s an intro by a TV host. The clip from La Granja VIP begins at 00:40.

Alicia Machado teniendo sexo.wmv

As for Angel Dark, the porn sites are capitalizing on all this unexpected traffic by deliberately relabeling Angel Dark videos with Alicia’s name, thereby compounding the problem, since RWNJs are too stupid to realize the switch.

Regarding mail in ballots. I don’t know what it is like in other states, but I read something very disturbing about how Ohio will be treating them.

If there is one glitch in the info on the ballot…like a bad zip code, unclear writing of the address, sloppy signature that doesn’t match up to the records, etc. it could cause it to not be counted.

Another issue…if you request a mail ballot but do not use it and go to the polls to vote…you will not be allowed. And it will already be too late to get your ballot in the mail in time in most cases.

I am trying to find the article I saw, but cannot relocate it.

I’m seriously thinking of not asking for a mail in ballot and just going to my polling place to make sure (well, as sure as I can here in Ohio). I might go around 10 am when there might be less people just before lunch.

So if you mail in your ballot, you might want to make sure what your state’s disqualifying properties could cause your ballot to be tossed out.

Yeah… Ohio Secretary of State John Husted has me worried.

constituional crises and challenges i have seen

vice president resigns
first use of 25th amendement appointing Ford
watergate and a president resigns
iran contra
impeachment
bush v gore and everything that preceded it (butterfly ballots etc)
8 supreme court justices
“is the president a natural born citizen”

this doesnt count “mere” supreme court decisions many of which were constitutional crises or fundamental “redefinitions” (depending on your perspective) - roe, loving, griswold, hobby lobby, citizens united, obergefell, miranda, heller

doesnt count congressional scandals and resignations and all that
nor presidental race scandals - 1968, gary hart, john edwards
nor “investigations” - whitewater, paula jones, clarence thomas, benghazi, emails,

this took 5 minutes
im sure a missed many others

i dont know if the bounds of the constitution and our system of electing and governing have always been this regularly tested.

it seems like a lot has happened in my one not very long (yet) lifetime that go to the very heart of what the constitution is, means, and does.

i have no idea what trump means in relation to all this

Like Oregon, mail voting is mandatory in most of Nebraska (the rural areas). While I can mail my ballot, I will take it to the county seat and hand it directly over to the elections commissioner. (She does all the checks right at the desk to ensure everything is okay.)

We don’t have the voter fraud ID nonsense in Nebraska. It’s like Republicans only employ that strategy in states where the elections might be close.

If there were actual in-person voter fraud, they would impose it in every state with a majority Republican legislature. For us in Nebraska, it is about as easy to vote as in liberal Oregon.

It also uses some completely nonstandard methodology when someone ranks 0-100 how likely they are to vote for a candidate. So, someone saying that there is a 100% chance they will vote for Trump is counted more than 80% support for Clinton.

For whatever reason, Trump thinks like all wingnuts do, that Bill is her Achilles’ heel. Attack her on that and it’s an instant win.

Bill Clinton was an outstanding President — definitely one of the best this country has ever had. The economy was booming during his tenure and he was a well spoken, charming, charismatic guy. I remember him playing the saxophone on Arsenio Hall’s show.

Trump going after a popular ex-President is foolish given the fact that Trump himself is a known philanderer on his 3rd marriage. Plus, he lacks President Clinton’s easy charm and intelligence. But let him go for it. Secretary Clinton can handle him. She has been dealing with bullies for her entire adult life.
