It was the same during 2012, some big money Romney backers saw flooding Intrade’s market as a cheap way of boosting his perceived chances. Basically the issue is that the most visible election betting markets aren’t very fluid, there just isn’t enough people or money involved to prevent those who see it as a bargain basement form of advertising from moving the needle.

Ah. I think there was an original design plan to make one of them edge-faceted so they could be easily distinguished from quarters.
Dang. All this talk and guess what I just found in my “junk” drawer. A well worn 1926 Buffalo nickel and a 1905 penny. Those coins are going in the same drawer with the steel cent.

I have a 1943 steel cent.
Wartime needs led to changes in the material used in a number of things. For one, US watch companies had come to rely on Swiss jewel makers, so Elgin,Hamilton and others had to start making their own again.
Also, nickel was apparently hard to come by, so Elgin and others went back to the finishing method they’d abandoned by the turn of the 20th Century - gilding.
On the left, a 1943 Elgin Railroad watch with gilded movement. On the right, a 1946 version, with the nickel-plating used for all but 2 years during the war.

Newsweek suspects that attackers took down its site for hours on Thursday in order to bury a story about a company that Donald Trump owned decades ago. The magazine claims that the company secretly did business in Cuba, even though that was illegal at the time.
Newsweek Editor-in-Chief Jim Impoco told Politico:
We don’t know everything. We’re still investigating. But it was a massive DDoS attack, and it took place in the early evening just as prominent cable news programs were discussing Kurt Eichenwald’s explosive investigation into how Donald Trump’s company broke the law by breaking the United States embargo against Cuba.
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack came, the newsmagazine suggests, in response to its cover story, “How Donald Trump’s company violated the United States embargo against Cuba.”Details about the volume of the attack or what made it sophisticated were not immediately available. On Friday, Eichenwald described it as “a major attack on Newsweek.” Later in the afternoon, Eichenwald tweeted, “Lots of IP addresses involved. Main ones from Russia.”
In an e-mail to Ars, Impoco reiterated that the publication is “still investigating” and that investigators have “nothing definitive. As with any DDoS attack, there are a lot of IP addresses, but the main ones are Russian.” He said it remains too early to say what significance, if any, comes from the large number of Russian IPs.
The IPs involved in a DDoS rarely say much about the parties perpetrating the attack, because the addresses are usually connected to computers that have been hacked and are participating in the assault without the end users’ knowledge. Exceptions occasionally exist, however, as was the case a few years ago when members of the Anonymous hacking collective actively used software known as the Low Orbit Ion Cannon to disrupt government and corporate websites.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has blamed recent hacks on Russia, including one on the Democratic National Committee. Republican presidential candidate Trump said it could be China or “someone sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds.”

According to the New York Observer — a paper published by Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner — Giuliani made comments about the kitchen staff working the dinner at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel where the dinner was held.

According to an attendee, Giuliani’s comments were met with silence.
“Rudy talked about immigration and made a really, really inappropriate comment about the quote-unquote Mexicans in the kitchen at the Waldorf,” the attendee said. “It was bad. You could hear a pin drop. I think he was looking for applause.”
The apology came one day after the International Council of Shopping Centers axed Giuliani as their keynote speaker at their annual conference after members complained about his rhetoric while on the campaign trail for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

This came up yesterday (or was it the day before) when HuffPo ran an article crying “EUGENICS!” in regards to Drumpfskind.
