For the same reason that his Wharton education doesn’t seem to have stuck. He doesn’t know or care. He just blusters through figuring no one will call him on it. It worked for him for decades in the business world, but politics is a different thing entirely.

He has no grounds on which to sue. Besides the obvious issues of being a public figure, there’s the whole facts thing. Clinton just has to run his statements verbatim and that’s a perfect defense.

Trump doesn’t care about that either frankly. He’s just trying to play bully. Again, that’s not how it works, but he doesn’t care, and figures that his supporters wont care either.

“If we don’t get the deal we want, we will withdraw from NAFTA.”
“What do you want?”
“It’ll be great.”

I’m going to throw something out there… I think the “markets” have figured out that Trump is going to lose. In a normal (competitive) election cycle, if a major party’s nominee is going around saying things like “we’re going to pull out of NATO” or “we’re going to withdraw from NAFTA” or insinuating that they’d start trade wars with Mexico and China, the stock market index numbers would drop every time the nominee said something like that. But the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq numbers have been fairly consistent for a while now.

Grab your Google Cardboard! Red River Rivalry game to be broadcast in virtual reality

This Saturday’s match up between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will be the second game this season broadcast through LiveLike/Fox Sports’ virtual reality live stream, according to The Austin American Statesman.

All you need is a Samsung Gear VR ($99) or a Google Cardboard ($15) device to watch and to download the LiveLike app from the Google Play or Apple store.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, sign in with your TV provider credentials and you’re ready to go.

There have been some federal judges who have been impeached and removed from the bench for failing to exercise “good behavior” (which is the term used in the Constitution), but you have to go back to 1936 for a judge removed for anything but a crime. That was a District Court judge who was removed for favoritism in the appointment of bankruptcy receivers and practicing law while a judge.

But I’m not sure the same standard could be applied to a president.

Of course, it would be comical if a week after his cabinet members were confirmed they submitted a 25th Amendment letter along with Pence declaring Trump unable to perform the duties of the office. Granted, that’s some West Wing level crazy ass shit there, but it would be interesting to see how that’d play out.

These “stories” are dime a dozen, confused people, esp. children, were put into unfamiliar rooms and thought those were gas chambers, and still believe it to this day (which is why you must be particularly careful about survivor testimonies, which are often a mixture of fact, interpretation and rumors and it takes specialists to separate the wheat from the chaff).

Now journalists like to uncritically print these stories without any attempt at critical evaluation, to wit:

After arriving at the camp, Yvonne was immediately sent to the gas chamber. Thanks to some strange twist of fate, it malfunctioned and she was left naked in the chamber overnight before being freed.
By some miracle, the Nazi’s kept her alive, and she was sent to sort through the clothes of newly arrived Jews to find any gold or valuables they’d hidden.

What is interesting is that although the article never doubts the story, right in the middle of it a tweet is embedded with an instant fact-check from the Auschwitz Museum:

Shall we attempt to count the number of Republicans who cry themselves to sleep each night? No? Then they are fine with this? Son Of A Bitch. Could have fooled me. Speaking of Ohio…I noticed in the last thread Charles had posted the 538 current trends map and Ohio was showing as light blue where it was pink earlier this week.

Come on Ohio! Let’s get real and dump the Trump.

Oh yeah, I’m as white as it get Rushbo, and I am all in on the Black Lives Matter movement. Piss off radio idiot!

Note sure why two tweets embedded instead of one.

Because the tweet you posted included a quoted tweet. Since embedded tweets don’t display quoted tweets (unlike the Twitter web page, where they’re shown as part of the tweet), my code now includes the quoted tweet above the one you post, to show the context.

Yes - if you include “?noquote” after the tweet URL. Like so:

https://twitter.com/AuschwitzMuseum/status/782414192611647493?noquote

If the tweet’s URL already has a query string (? followed by some parameters), use “&noquote” instead:

https://twitter.com/AuschwitzMuseum/status/782414192611647493?other=yes&noquote

I suspect some in the (remnants of the) establishment are looking at this election as an opportunity to tell the crazies “look, you always complained that we never nominated a ‘true conservative’ that we always ignored you and nominated someone mainstream, so your guy got the nomination this time and this is what happened.”

I still tend to think that a blow out in this election will force the GOP back to the center. The Trump stench is going to be on a lot of people for a lot of reasons - Cruz endorsed, Pence accepted the VP nomination, Bush/Paul/Rubio all lost. Going to be an interesting civil war in the GOP

The problem is that Trump isn’t really conservative. Trump is his own personal brand of crazy that only occasionally and accidentally shares something in common with conservatives like Pence and Cruz.

Be safe, Florida lizards.

I have vivid memories of Typhoon Ida in Japan in 1958, when I was 9 years old. We were at Johnson Air Base, Iruma, on high ground west of Tokyo. We were as safe as anyone in the country, but the winds there were at 120 mph and our house shook furiously most of the night. It was terrifying. At the time, it was the strongest tropical storm ever recorded anywhere in the world, with peak winds of 215 mph before landfall and minimum pressure of 877 hPa (mbar); 25.9 inHg. More than 50 people were killed by landslides just a few miles away in Iruma, and there were 1,269 fatalities nationwide.

This is true, but the wingularity has accepted Trump as its own. They finally got their guy, and he’s going to lose badly. If I were a player in the GOP, that’s what I’d be telling the base come November 9.

Trump makes text what’s subtext in the reactionary nostalgia that Pence, et al, communicate in a more coded manner.
