Matt Drudge Pushes Dangerous Conspiracy Theory That the Government Is Lying About the Strength of Hurricane Matthew

WTF • Views: 65,201

By all accounts Hurricane Matthew is going to be a monster storm with winds up to 140 mph, and the governor of Florida is strongly urging people to evacuate coastal regions as soon as possible. More than 100 people have already been killed by the storm in Haiti, and warnings are in effect along the entire east coast of Florida.

But Matt Drudge (who has a permanent link to Alex Jones’s sites on Drudge Report) is on Twitter today telling his followers that the government is lying to them about the strength of the hurricane to hype climate change.

It’s difficult to overstate how irresponsible and dangerous this sort of rhetoric is; Drudge is actually risking people’s lives to push an anti-science, anti-government conspiracy theory, because there may be some people who’ll believe his statements and refuse to evacuate.

HuffPo: Paul Ryan Burns Final Shred Of Dignity, Will Campaign With Trump

WASHINGTON ― Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is campaigning with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in Wisconsin on Saturday, though it kind of seems he didn’t want you to know that.

Ryan’s campaign released a media advisory Thursday titled, “Paul Ryan to Attend Annual Fall Fest in Walworth County.” It’s an event in Ryan’s home state, and the advisory lists lots of state officials attending.

Oh, and three paragraphs in, it mentions Trump will be there too.

Wisconsin couple interviewed by Weather Channel will stay at the beach in Florida:

The Weather Channel on Thursday caught up with Milton and Annette Voss, a couple from Wisconsin with a home in Juno Beach, Fla. Instead of following orders to evacuate the area, the couple said they plan to stay right where they are — and they even suggested sitting through the storm would be fun.

“It’s just another adventure!” Milton exclaimed. “It’s like a blizzard in Wisconsin — hunker down for three days!”

The Weather Channel reporter then asked them what they’ve done to prepare for the storm.

“Everything!” Annette replied. “Water, a little sandbagging. Our windows face the west, so we’re excited about it, but we wish we could see out once we’re shuttered in.”

There’s no freakin’ way I would be anywhere near this monster about to chew up most of Florida if I could help it.

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville says they are going to close the bridges over the river tonight. After that, everyone on the east side of the river is pretty much going to be on their own. (I presume the Mayport Ferry over the St. Johns will also shut down.)

One of them in SC seemed to believe it because he ran through an evacuation checkpoint yesterday afternoon, was pursued by the cops. When they finally caught up to him, he pulled a gun and began firing, they opened fire on him, and he later died in the hospital. His wife then took to Facebook and described him as “the love of my life,” and wondered what she’ll do without him. The guy had quite a history of interaction with law enforcement in SC, mainly relating to traffic offenses.

You can see hurricanes coming, which is a big difference compared to other natural disasters (especially earthquakes). It is impressively stupid to deliberately not make use of that information because it was supplied by the big, bad Federal government.

I think this counts as “mission accomplished” for the stupidity-mongers at Fox News and Hate Radio.

Christie looks like the trial is weighing heavily on him. David Wildstein is singing like a little birdie. Josh Marshall posted an article today which stated that Christie knew about the scheme to close the GW Bridge all along. I already knew this because Christie will lie to keep himself out of trouble. He has to be sweating bullets and hoping that no one he meets in public ever asks him about Bridgegate. On the other hand, I’m hoping someone in the MSM has the courage to ask him whether Wildstein is lying. If s/he does, I’m expecting Christie to throw one of the biggest tantrums in political history. Every question he is asked, he should talk about how the Clinton/Obama Administration has made it so bad, promise he will fix it, then pivot to how he is going to bring our jobs back or make America safe by restoring law and order or rebuilding the military and defeating radical islamic terrorism. That’s it. If he takes Clinton’s bait he’s just going to sink himself.

I read today that he has said he’s changing nothing in order to be better prepared for the next two debates. After the first debate, he said he’s sticking with his debate tactics because that’s what his supporters like. SMDH at his stupidity.

If this was any other campaign I’d say that was an attempt to lower expectations, and the candidate actually is prepping like crazy.

But this I belive, because Trump is Trump.

Let us be grateful for that stupidity.

Honestly, I don’t think he CAN change. Look at his speeches - if he’s not READING, he’s RANTING. That’s all there is to him. There’s no sane, quiet Trump who isn’t reading the TelePrompTer. As long as he doesn’t have a script in front of him, he sounds like a crazy idiot.

And he’s shown no ability to learn from his mistakes. He has literally made exactly the same extremely damaging mistake 3 times, and each time, there MUST have been SOMEBODY telling him he was shooting himself in the foot. If he’d never repeated the catastrophic mistake of going after Judge Curiel, or if he’d stopped with the Khans or Machado after one or two days, I’d worry. But he went a WHOLE WEEK when everyone was telling him how bad it was.

So, in the end, I’m not sure what debate prep that doesn’t involve a hypodermic needle would actually help him.

His lawyers are right, he’ll lie about every/anything. The reason he had an audio problem within the confines of the debate hall was because he’d been told not to touch his microphone, but he did. Yechhh!
Didn’t get enough sleep last night, then I had to go to Fort Worth and eat a very spicy Italian lunch. By the time I got home, I was in the midst of a hellish bout of acid indigestion. I took some antacids but before they took effect, I dozed off and was soon sound asleep. I dreamed that I was trying to buy a sweater at the dollar store—-odd since I don’t like sweaters and would not be buying one, especially not at the dollar store. I was arrested because I did not have enough money to pay for it (you don’t question things like this in a dream). Instead of being delivered to the county jail, though, I was transported back in time and delivered instead to a medieval ecclesiastical court in a dark gothic structure of some sort.
They told me to give my responses in Latin.
“But I don’t know Latin.”
“I’m sorry, you will have to use Latin. We do not understand this heathenish tongue you speak.”
“What the…. but you’re speaking it yourself, you have to understand it!”
“Obey the court!
“You’re not making any sense! You’re worse than a bunch of goddamned Republicans!”
Unfortunately, they understood that and I was promptly charged with heresy, not for taking the Lord’s name in vain, but for calling them Republicans.
Before they could pronounce sentence, I woke up.

This all raises a question: What the hell was in those antacids?

All I can tell you is that all the pollsters switched to Likely Voters a month ago, and that generally runs more Republican than RVs.

Of course his supporters care enough to vote, but they already vote in every election (see 2010 and 2014). He’s not really bringing new voters to the polls - or at least, not new voters who are gonna vote FOR him. This shows up in the demographics of new registrations.

I get that we need to be careful, not relax, and push this sucker over the line, but seriously, there’s more to politics than the Brexit vote.

“A majority of Asian-American voters view Clinton and the Dems positively, Trump and the GOP negatively.”

After the 2012 election, I began researching why more Asians voted for Pres. Obama than for Romney. A comment made by one Asian-American made lots of sense to me. The young lady said she and her family members had been paying attention to the way GOPers treated the president and others, so they concluded that if they treated him/them that way, they’d do the same to Asian-Americans. GOP pols are always saying that the GOP should be the home of Asian-Americans because—- they’re natural conservatives!!!, you know. They’re making the same mistake with Asian-Americans that they’re making with other persons of color—-they’re underestimating their intelligence and assuming that having them witness their nasty attitudes toward other groups will not prevent them from voting for them, but oh, hell, yes, it will.

In his latest video on YouTube, Chuck C. Johnson talks about his pipe dream that he’s going to buy 4chan. The current owner is Hiroyuki Nishimura. Chuck says:

Someone should let Mr. Nishimura know what the guy who’s trying to buy his website really thinks about him.

Martin Shkreli talked about wanting to buy it so he could be king asshole too, and would be more likely to actually have cash than Chuck.

Plus lots of them are immigrants or related to immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, and they know the ugly history of anti-immigrant racism directed at Asians in the past. No reason to assume the GOP will limit its hostility to Hispanics and Muslims.

It’s worth noting that white supremacists often see Asians as ‘acceptable’. See Chuckie and his HAW.

But really, it just reinforces how badly they do Identity Politics. They think, “Gosh, those people are natural Conservatives!”, not grasping that if you’re not white, it is pretty damn clear how central white privilege is to modern Conservatism.

I think Shkreli’s a little cash-tight these days-I thiunk he actually had to pledge his E-Trade account as collateral on one of his suits. He may have other funding sources, but he’s still gotta find someone to run the damn thing. Imagining what a non-racist version of US conservatism might look like has been a lucrative thought experiment for David Brooks.

OK, maybe this is a good time to mention a book called “Condominium,” by John D. MacDonald, the genius who wrote the wonderful (though now almost archaic) Travis McGee mysteries. MacDonald was a self-admitted close-the-bridge-the-minute-I-cross-it immigrant to Florida. In “Condominium” he describes the development of a Cat 5 hurricane and its effects on a stretch of Florida coast. He has great fun disposing of the kinds of people he thought were ruining the old Florida (meaning the place as it was when he arrived ten or fifteen years earlier): real estate agents, developers, snowbirds, etc. all die in bizarre and horrible ways in the storm. You can tell the writer was having fun wasting them. A great read too, unless perhaps you’re spending tonight somewhere near the Space Coast.

Please don’t pay much attention to the clique of blacks at The Root who are wasting time on depressing others. Realize also that some of those who claim they’re black aren’t. These persons do not speak for the majority of us blacks. Although this is anecdotal, I haven’t met one black person in Middle GA so far who plans to vote for Trump. I’m not saying there aren’t any, but what I am saying is that it will be a very small group. One can look at Persons of Color at Trump rallies and surmise that, maybe, just maybe, most feel there is no place for them in Trumpsterville. He came to Macon where I live and I didn’t waste my time trying to attend his event because I knew it wasn’t the place for me. There’s no way I could sit among his supporters and listen to him disparage other Americans. My Christianity, patience, and my nerves just won’t permit me to do it, so I stayed home rather than attending it and having his security end up escorting me out of the venue because I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

That’s because she and Bill “stole” $6 billion in earthquake relief money and no houses got built and everybody in Haiti was still living in tents…good grief.

Yes I remember when the Japanese were going to buy all of America and drive all our auto companies out of business. Then the Tokyo real estate bubble burst. I think that at the height of the bubble, I heard that Tokyo real estate was valued at more than the entire state of California.

He talks big, but the rest of that rant about Japan tells me he understands nothing about business in Japan. He says he’s going to rent karaoke machines or whatever to work out a deal. You don’t rent karaoke machines in Asia. You got to a karaoke club and rent a private room, buy food and drinks, and party. Business deals in Japan (and China) are worked out over dinner and drinks, a lot of drinks, so I hope Rage Furby’s capacity for sake is huge.

He’s got nothing. 4chan has to be worth at least several hundred thousand dollars, and he doesn’t have it.

“The fear of Japanese invasion in the 1980s?” WTF?

Back in the 1980s Japan’s export prowess against the US, their massive inroads into the US Automotive industry in displacing the Big Three and their capital acquisitions in the US made some people very jittery-I very distinctly remember an entire issue of Creative Computing done in 1982 or 1983 that focused entirely on the Japanese mythos of their work ethic. Looking back at it now, it was very overblown-almost to the point of being racist. That entire issue was pretty much David Ahl’s swansong-it folded up shop back in 1985.

Oh God, this just kills me. I was a strange girl, smart as hell but completely socially clueless (being on the autism spectrum will do that to you) and I used to get harassed frequently. The junior high administration didn’t believe there was a problem until my school locker got burned down. But it was still a problem even after that. I really feel for this boy and his family.

Anymouse  Oct 6, 2016 • 8:42:05pm

Just got off Skype with my son in Jacksonville. He lives in one of the evac zones, so he’s staying with his mother on the west side near NAS Cecil Field.

My ex-wife’s company is being very magnanimous (she works for Toyota regional distribution as a software engineer): They are requiring her to come to work (right to work state - we don’t care if there’s an evac order: come to work or your fired).

I offered my son a place to stay here in the Nebraska Panhandle (we have a guest room) if for some reason the area he is in becomes unliveable.
