People Magazine Writer Comes Forward to Describe Sexual Assault by Donald Trump

“You know we’re going to have an affair, don’t you?”
Politics • Views: 43,919

I have a feeling there are going to be many more women coming forward like this, now that the door has been opened. Here’s People Magazine writer Natasha Stoynoff’s account of being sexually assaulted and humiliated by Donald Trump.

We walked into that room alone, and Trump shut the door behind us. I turned around, and within seconds, he was pushing me against the wall, and forcing his tongue down my throat.

Now, I’m a tall, strapping girl who grew up wrestling two giant brothers. I even once sparred with Mike Tyson. It takes a lot to push me. But Trump is much bigger—a looming figure—and he was fast, taking me by surprise, and throwing me off balance. I was stunned. And I was grateful when Trump’s longtime butler burst into the room a minute later, as I tried to unpin myself.

The butler informed us that Melania would be down momentarily, and it was time to resume the interview.

I was still in shock, and remained speechless as we both followed him to an outdoor patio overlooking the grounds. In those few minutes alone with Trump, my self-esteem crashed to zero. How could the actions of one man make me feel so utterly violated?  I’d been interviewing A-list celebrities for over 20 years, but what he’d done was a first. Did he think I’d be flattered?

I tried to act normal. I had a job to do, and I was determined to do it. I sat in a chair that faced Trump, who waited for his wife on a loveseat. The butler left us, and I fumbled with my tape recorder. Trump smiled and leaned forward. “You know we’re going to have an affair, don’t you?” he declared, in the same confident tone he uses when he says he’s going to make America great again. “Have you ever been to Peter Luger’s for steaks? I’ll take you. We’re going to have an affair, I’m telling you.” He also referenced the infamous cover of the New York Post during his affair with Marla Maples. “You remember,” he said. “Best Sex I Ever Had.”

Melania walked in just then, serene and glowing. Donald instantly reverted back to doting husband mode, as if nothing had happened, and we continued our interview about their wedded bliss. I nodded at his hollow words and smiled at his jokes, but I was nauseated. It didn’t seem to register to him in the slightest that what he’d done might have hurt or offended me, or his wife.

An hour later, I was back at my hotel. My shock began to wear off, and was replaced by anger. I kept thinking, Why didn’t I slug him? Why couldn’t I say anything?

@ltthompso: Ok. Trump is horrible. But I want to talk a little bit about the oppo dump that’s happening in real time. This is world class work folks. 1/

@ltthompso: This is a brilliantly coordinated drop, with staggered embargoes. First, notice the mix of local outlets and national outlets. 2/

@ltthompso: There’s a great mix of print and broadcast as well. Start with the NYT to get eyeballs on the web and TV. CNN picks it up immediately 3/

@ltthompso: Ok. Now you’ve got a story rolling. Within an hour, you start to get multiple waves coming out of local outlets. These get picked up. 4/

@ltthompso: Within ninety minutes you’ve got reporters reporting on existing reporting. The cycle is locked in. Nobody’s assessing the stories. 5/

@ltthompso: And here’s the kicker: the victims live in FL, OH, even UT. THEY’RE ALL SWING STATES! It’s masterful to be honest. Take a bow. /fin

@_Drew_McCoy_: My favorite part is the way they gave Rs a few days to stew, a few shuffle back to Trump and then BOOOOM! Now what do you do?

@ltthompso: @_Drew_McCoy_ Exactly. It’s impressive execution. Like watching Bumgarner beat my Royals in the 2014 World Series.

NYPD vs. Trumpist rioters outside the NYT building will be a one-sided affair, and won’t help Trump or the Republicans get votes.

Trump’s only reaction to the NYTs’ article is to threaten a lawsuit. I read the article and it not only reports on the women who claim Trump sexually assaulted them, it includes the comments of their family members, friends, and associates who also know about the sexual assault. Sure, he’ll sue the NYT, but what about all of the other news outlets that are reporting that other women, in addition to the two in the NYT, say he also sexually assaulted them? He’s a loser. Rather than dispute what the women are saying, he’s taking the legal intimidation route. If I were operating one of these outlets, I would not back down. He wants us to believe that he didn’t do what these women are saying he did. He knows his history of sexually assaulting women, and he knows he’s been getting away with doing it for decades. What he didn’t think was that it would come out to the public when he decided to run for POTUS. The wolf just had that sheep costume snatched off of him, and it’s not even Halloween. I’m not usually someone who thinks in a vindictive way, but in this case, I’m glad Trump is being exposed as the lecherous, cheating, disrespectful, filthy-mouthed, horny b*st*rd that he is, and that the evangelical leaders and supporters who are backing him are being exposed as the “c”hristian fakes they’ve always been. All of them deserve every bit of this, and as for the GOPers who now want to change the subject, they get to experience in real-time how wrong a choice they made in choosing Trump. I hope every one of ‘em is embarrassed. Maybe now they’ll sit down and STFU. They wanted Trump to “shake up” D.C. Their wish has been granted. They now have a nation-wide shake up, thanks to Trump.

You must be joking. Imagine some scumbag like Trump groped you years ago, and for whatever reason you didn’t press charges at the time.

Now you see this guy tell the entire nation that he never groped anyone, right in the middle of a presidential debate as he runs for President.

Don’t you think you’d be extremely motivated to come forward, even if it was years later?

Of course there’s the possibility that something like this could also attract unstable types that like to insert themselves into stories, but that is overwhelmingly likely to only affect a small number (or zero) of the reports that are coming out. (Edited to add, and fakers-come-lately don’t have the kind of contemporary corroboration we’re seeing in these reports.)

Trump’s own words and reputation give us no reason to give him such an exaggerated benefit of the doubt.

When Anderson Cooper asked him straight up if he had sexually assaulted women, as described in his little tete a tete w/ Billy Bush and he said “No”, he was dead meat.

The door was opened and whatever followed was legitimate reporting.

“You skipped the part where he said he never did it, it was all just locker room talk. Might be why ppl are coming 4ward now.”

I think what prompted these women to identify themselves was watching him lie in Sunday night’s debate. The woman in FL had a particularly strong reaction to hearing him say he’s never assaulted any female. He’s lied, lied, lied, and lied again, but that lie was the straw that broke the camel’s back for these women. He should have known/suspected that his lies would eventually catch up to him, and that his money wouldn’t be enough to make all of the women he abused shut up.

She’s pulling irrelevant facts out her ass, trying to cover for her weasel of a boss. Coach seats had movable armrests between the seats, for pete’s sake. Surely first class seats would as well. And first class in 747s was palatial, from what I’ve heard.

OOC, isn’t this classic first amendment stuff? He’s running for the top government spot.

Even if he wasn’t running for political office, he has spent the last 30 years making himself a public person. Which is entirely what the Sullivan case is about. The New York Times is the paper of record, as a result they have more than a few Supreme Court decisions with their name on it about the freedom of the press

First class seats have always been physically separated from each other. That’s the point. You don’t have to put up with a 400-pounder sitting next to you. If someone grabs your genitalia in a first class seat, they have to physically assault you from a distance.

The 2012 US Presidential Campaign was a boring season of TV. That’s why they brought in Shonda Rhimes to add lots of sex and surprise twists for the 2016 season, and signed Donald Trump to star. This is a TV show right? Because its way to weird to be reality.

Jeb! campaign person rates the Trump info drop.

@ltthompso: Now I’m really curious how they’ll drop the racial material on him to do maximum damage. Because this was basically Swan Lake.

Trump will continue to campaign, and large crowds will keep showing up at his rallies. He has nothing to fear from his supporters, but I feel sorry for members of the press who have to cover his events. His supporters will be foaming at the mouth about them since these women have stated that Trump sexually assaulted them. I expect him to spend some time railing against the NYT, other outlets that are carrying the stories, the women who’ve stepped forward, and I expect him to whine about how the MSM is “attacking” him and giving HRC a free pass.

The media won’t report on the fact that the average Republican male leader is at least 50% as horribly rapey as Trump. So what.

First things first. Trump must be defeated, and in such a way as to cause as much damage to Republicans as possible. So far this is proceeding optimally, with all kind of gutless wonders in the GOP going back and forth in their support for Trump and also having the usual GOP difficulties in dealing with rape.

Yes, it was tough to read. But good thing the butler came in at that moment and not her big boss. Cuz then she might have been “suspended for inappropriate behavior, pending investigation” since he’s a married man and clearly he was being seduced by the vixen. He couldn’t help himself, you see. And then after being cleared due to witnesses who had seen him trying to maneuver her into being alone with him for months and the report from her immediate supervisor who told her not to “rock the boat” when she fearfully complained about the man’s unwanted attention weeks before, she wouldn’t even get an apology, just a call telling her to come back to work and be more careful in the future. The man who assaulted her wouldn’t even get a slap on the wrist. A few months later, she might even get assigned to that guy’s team so she could be alone with him every single day and answer to him for her livelihood.

The story I couldn’t tell for my reason for leaving the job I loved. That would have made me a “troublemaker” and doomed me in my profession. Rage? Yup. Still there.

MIGHTY, POWERFUL, and AWESOME GOD.

You are our REFUGE and underneath are everlasting arms. You fight our battles for us and flush out the enemy before us. You contend with those who contend with us. When our enemy comes in like a flood, Your SPIRIT will lift up a standard against them.

Thank You, FATHER GOD, for exposing the hypocrisy and the wicked, self-serving plans of the media, politicians, and political pundits as they rage against DONALD TRUMP/MIKE PENCE. They point their accusing fingers at DONALD TRUMP while four are pointing back at themselves. They try to persuade MIKE PENCE to abandon their cause. They try to turn the world against them. Thank You for strengthening and shielding them.

LORD, send angel armies to protect DONALD TRUMP/MIKE PENCE, their families, staff, and all who stand with them. Bless them and fill them with Your SPIRIT. Expand their territory and defend their cause. May they seek Godly counsel and look to You for wisdom and strategy.

A lot of those people find reading the Bible kind of a drag, because it has all the long, serious bits about being moral and decent. What they want is entertainment, so they read Tim LaHaye and similar nonsense as a guide to Christianity and convince themselves that they are genuinely spiritual in their ignorance of what Jesus actually said.

The Ghost of a Flea  Oct 12, 2016 • 11:30:22pm

re: #124 Shiplord Kirel

Yep. Worth emphasizing that they take this kind of stuff literally.

Well, they don’t take literally the admonitions about being kind, just, or taking care of those who are suffering literally. There’s actually no consistent hermeneutic, which is why there’s a whole industry of “prophets” who make money selling their interpretations as in-line notes, or explaining popular-but-arcane interpretations (such as the Scofield Annotated Bible, aka the place where so much of the Rapture stuff comes from). Decade by decade, there are subtle shifts in tone of the hermeneutic-substitute cloud of interpretations that form mega-church “Christianity”—the prosperity gospel being a good example of a rising trend. So the religion keeps changing—and specifically, keeps changing to match a certain set of very worldly political issues involving money and (lack of) compassion for the suffering—while denying that it’s changed.

At the same time, the basic premise that there’s always forgiveness is applied…extremely unevenly, and in a fashion that reflects power and influence. Contrition has become a simple ritual, but it’s a ritual doled out much more generously to those with money, political credentials, or positions at the top of a church hierarchy. This can be seen in Mike Pence’s response to Trump’s latest issues: his religion-laced statement is a very naked demonstration of how rote, and how unfair, this process actually plays out. There’s no core, no center, just opportunism and calculation of advantage.

Again…there’s no there there.

Thanks for your comment. You make so many salient points about the “c”hristians who are supporting Trump. As I was reading it, I remembered how Paul Ryan pretended to be offended about what some HRC campaign associate[s] said about Catholics. He has no leg to stand on when it comes to talking about Christian values because he has previously admitted that he has much love and admiration for Ayn Rand who was an avowed atheist. The budgets he writes always provide huge tax breaks for the already wealthy and stiff the poor by reducing their social safety net benefits. There is also his continued opposition to increasing the minimum wage, and his unending attempts to take healthcare away from those who need it most, among other things. His policies do not show a dedication to real Christian principles in any way. That he issued the statement smacks of extreme hypocrisy. His true self is reflected in his budgets: He has his and the needy and struggling can make it the best way they can.

Donald Trump is a “revolting slug” unfit for public office, according to the New South Wales parliament’s upper house.

On Thursday, Jeremy Buckingham, an upper house Greens MP, tabled a motion condemning “misogynistic, hateful” comments the US Republican presidential candidate has made against women and minorities, including his remarks revealed at the weekend describing sexual assault.

The motion also called out what is described as the divisive, destructive impact of hate speech from political candidates and agreed with those describing Trump as a “slug” unfit for office.

Buckingham’s motion was unanimously carried.

“It’s clear that all reasonable and decent people find Donald Trump’s behaviour obnoxious and that the world is hoping American voters reject his politics of hate,” Buckingham said.

GOP candidate offers Harlem residents free KFC and watermelon

A republican candidate for New York’s state senate is taking heat after he promised to give out free fried chicken and watermelon to people who attended one of his campaign events in Harlem.

NBC 4 New York reports that Jon Girodes, the Republican candidate for New York’s 30th District, told the news station that he planned to hand out “Kool-Aid, KFC and watermelons” to people who attended a Harlem campaign rally in the coming weeks.

Harlem, of course, is a majority black neighborhood, and watermelons and fried chicken are two foods that are used to stereotype black Americans. All the same, Girodes doesn’t think there’s anything offensive about his stunt since people in the neighborhood should be grateful that they’re getting free food.

I wonder.

Might one of the stories about to drop have anything to do with The Donald using abortion as birth control back in his wild party days in the 70s and 80s? Or 90s?

Or, hell, last year? He doesn’t sound like the kind of Alpha Make who wraps that rascal, does he? Not that there should be stigmatization, or denial of health services to people who need them, or all the tricky shite that the Xtians have tried to pull the last decade or so. But Drumpf fits the profile of the type of guy to say, “Hey, that’s your problem. Here’s the name of a clinic. It’s all taken care of. Sign this non disclosure.”

What would the evangelicals do with that kind of revelation?

Those people that say that sexual harassment (OK, “sexual assault”, really) is a new, PC, thing have forgotten our culture.

I have MAD Magazine on DVD from when the magazine was still funny, from its founding in the 50’s until the 2000’s or so.

Sexual harassment was in the subtext, or even overt, in a lot of the features in that magazine. One article I well remember parodied the jargon in various industries; in one panel, an airline stewardess is complaining about a “Gray Groper”—a dirty old man—“doing handsprings up and down my runway!” (The gray Groper turns out to be the pilot.)

This was a magazine I found very funny as a teen in the 1970’s, just because it captured the culture of the day, and still does. (It even predicted gay marriage with a Sergio Aragones cartoon of a man walking out of a bakery with a wedding cake. With two grooms on top!)

And there’s often no appeals process. The list feature in Twitter was never designed for what it is now being used for. As you note, it is doing more harm than good.

I’m not even entirely convinced of that, but as I found out it is frustrating as fuck to get caught in. Twitter created a situation where a celebrity with millions of followers, who honestly means well, feels he’s doing a public service to the community by pinning tweet to the top of his page telling people that his list is a panacea to using the service without dealing with so much abuse and harassment.

It’s fucked up, and compounding that is the fact that you seemingly can’t get him to acknowledge multiple requests from other users to reconsider unless, like Charles, they’re verified. That’s the part of this I honestly blame Wil for and hope he takes a hard look at, that nobody could even get his attention until they were part of the same elite club.

There is a slim possibility that there will be objections to the Crown Prince’s succession, as there is a law that says the successor must be acceptable to the Thai people. We’ll see what happens in the next few days.

Personally, I suspect the military grabbed control of the civilian government to prepare specifically for this problem.

Taylor Rose likes to project a fresh-scrubbed, wholesome image to his fellow Montanans while campaigning for a seat in the state’s House of Representatives. It’s easy for the blonde-haired, blue-eyed and clean-shaven 28-year-old from the rural Columbia Falls area to do, flashing a toothy grin and ranting about the need to get the federal government out of workers’ hair and open up the state’s timberlands to lumber operations.

The image, combined with a pleasing message (Rose likes to label himself a “pro-labor Republican”) and a slick campaign, have all raised the prospects that Rose might be able to pull off an upset win over incumbent Rep. Zac Perry, a Democrat, in the race for the House seat in District 3, which historically leans Republican.

What many voters may not realize, however, is Taylor’s long history of deep involvement with the white nationalist movement, and the dangerously bigoted worldview he has promoted since his teenage years — a history well documented by the SPLC and the Anti-Defamation League in the years leading up to his campaign.

Sounds alarmingly familiar, doesn’t it?

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. Trump’s already handing out invites to his next debate:

Reality is that Donald Trump himself had warned he was unelectable because of his womanizing years ago. In fact, he stated as much back in 1999.

It’s pathetic that no one cared to believe him then. The GOP certainly didn’t. Or they knew and didn’t care. I’m not sure which is worse.

This is a party that prides itself on being the party of personal responsibility and family values. That’s why their leadership’s incessant scandals and womanizing is more troubling. Democrats have had sex scandals to be sure, but they’re not the ones who claim to be the family values party or seeking out religious fundamentalist votes on the basis of being morally or ethically pure/righteous.

The GOP has incessantly pushed this moral majority crap for decades, and the reality is that these GOP leaders have been flawed - adulterers, sex predators, child molesters, etc. That’s not even getting into the run of the mill corruption.

And it includes everyone from Ken Starr (who did nothing to stop sex harassment at Baylor) to Rick Santorum who excused behavior of Joe Paterno at Penn State during the Sandusky years of abusing kids, to Denny Hastert, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, and Mike Huckabee who went out of his ways to help his pals the Duggars with their own sex abuse scandal (#duggarfamilyvalues).

It’s the hypocrisy that reveals the true nature of the craven GOP. They don’t care as long as the party gains or maintains power.

Yet, the media wins with either a horserace or a historic landslide. Guess the media’s realized this as well. All they had to do was actually read Trump books, old press relesaes, look at video interviews, etc. Trump was a media whore who fought to get on the air as much as possible.

That’s ultimately his undoing. Even Trump knew it in 1999. He knew his behavior around/towards women would ultimately prevent him from winning.

Guess he forgot that too. The best memory. Yoogest.

I had issues myself with not hearing when women spoke. I’d grasp their meaning but I’d forever be rushing towards that moment at which I could put forth my own glorious point of view.
It’s not that I love the sound of my own voice, but I did value it over the opinions of women. Sometimes I catch myself egoistically rushing forward in the stream of conversation to find a point at which I could hang my next mediocre bon mot .
That isn’t listening, and it was only a few years ago that I learned this.
The privilege I have as a white male was invisible to me up to that point. When it was pointed out to me (on the Phayngula message board) I thankfully grasped the concept immediately.

There are literally millions of men who have not only not been exposed to this idea, but will never even countenance the very concept.

That is what we are dealing with.
Male fragility that is masked in the kind of strength that excuses rape culture, just to sustain itself.

This is Trump’s wheelhouse. Threaten lawsuits and hope the opponent bails b/c of the costs associated. What Trump fails to realize is that as a plaintiff, he’s got the burden of proof to show these claims are false. That means depositions.

Lots and lots of depositions. Digging into Trump’s background. Record searches.

You know, the kind of thing that sane presidential candidate wouldn’t want. Or anyone for that matter. Trump isn’t normal though. His method of dealing with adversity is doubling down. Make threats, and figure that will force the other side to back down.

It isn’t working in politics the way it has in business.

Remember the woman who write the twitter rant about how she’d been defending the Republican party against charges of sexism, but couldn’t any more after seeing how the party was supporting Trump? Lots of people were wondering why she only had trouble then, but not the racism and homophobia. The answer is that a lot of conservatives have trouble feeling empathy. (For anyone who didn’t immediately recognized her (took me a second and a double-check), Marlee Matlin played Joey Lucas on The West Wing.)

The illogic of that statement makes my brain hurt. How can a low turnout within a candidate’s own party be helpful to the candidate? Unless they want to punish the Republican Party for not being 100% behind Trump instead of trying to win the election.

Maybe this was Trump’s game plan after all — not to win the election but to totally ruin the GOP for not treating him like royalty.

The first response is hilarious. But with Trump, we’re not talking an ordinary fire, or even a dumpster at this point.

We’re talking about a candidate who’s like a fireworks factory exploding in every direction, including hitting members of his own party because they hurt his feelings (after ignoring all the deplorable things he said from the moment he stepped in the race because they believed those things too - just not how he said them).

Targetpractice  Oct 13, 2016 • 7:24:49am

See, there were two things that happened in the last week that separately would have been damaging but together were absolutely fatal to Trump’s campaign.

The first was the tape that sparked off Gropegate, which would have been bad enough if Trump had copped to it. But he didn’t, he did the absolute worst thing he could have possibly done and did it on live TV: He denied it had ever happened and basically dared the media to prove him wrong. You could hear Anthony Weiner’s facepalm from Mars.

The second was deciding to unearth fossilized Clinton “scandals” like Broadderick and Jones and parade them in front of the nation in an effort to shame Hillary. Bad enough move on its own, holding a wife responsible for the actions of her husband. But then they doubled down by charging her with the unforgivable “crime” of raising doubts about these women’s allegations and “threatening” them. Accusations that rely almost entirely upon the word of those women.

So, tl;dr, the Trump campaign basically set the stage for this fiasco and barred their only means of escape from it. They dared the media to prove Trump is a sexual predator and the media obliged, and their defenses of “That was ages ago” or “They’re just making shit up” ring hollow in light of their attacks on Bill and Hill.

Say, should I see a doctor? My schadenfreude has last way longer than 4 hours.

Might even be public-spirited on his part. Since the people have such an emotional attachment to the throne, maybe he figures they should pick somebody who could last another 70 years.

re: #395 Targetpractice

Good summation. The only thing I would add is the media only plays the part of conduit of the message from the women.

I get the impression the media didn’t know of the actual women. The women seem to have gotten to the point of stepping up and revealing their individual experiences. The media then was contacted and became the people to carry the stories to the public.

I think the denial at the debate was the last straw for the women and they decided they had had enough and do not want to see Trump as president.

This is also why I wouldn’t pin all this on the Clinton’s. They benefit, and because of their supposed past people Like Joke Scarborough think they are behind all of it.

It is also why I don’t think you can get away with calling them bimbos. They seem to be professional women that were taken advantage of. They didn’t put themselves in the situation.

I think that is a large part of Trump’s strategy at this point, if he has one: Drive down turnout because Republican diehards will crawl over broken glass and hot coals to vote, while Democrats are generally seen as unwilling to crawl out of bed to vote if they don’t like their candidate.

Usually. But Trump tossed out his own broken glass and is challenging a whole bunch of new people to crawl over it. And some of the people that will do it have been cut by people like Trump before and want to put a stop to it.

Well, the LAT poll did. He’s the entire reason that Trump had led that poll for as long as he did - one person tipped the poll significantly due to weighting.

Without that one person, the entire poll flips over to Clinton by a significant margin (and that too affects all the aggregate polling. In other words, the horse race is quickly giving way to landslide.

In fact, Trump’s supposedly narrowing the number of states he’s going to focus on, which is telling because someone who is winning would expand the map, not contracting it.

Hillary’s map and path to 270 is clearer than it’s been for a while.

I listened to part of an interview this morning on SiriusXM with someone from the LA Times who was discussing their polling. I didn’t hear everything, but from what I caught it’s quite clear it is a shitty poll. First, they oversampled people who DID NOT vote in 2012. It turns out, these people are more likely to be a Trump supporter. Shocking. In addition, they used a modified Likert-type scale (0 to 100) for their responses, e.g., How like are you to vote for Hillary on a scale from 0 to 100. Their poll is garbage. What a joke.

As I was about to say, winning campaigns don’t count the number of states they need to win, but the number of states they could afford to lose. Hillary could lose all but one of the remaining “battleground states” and still win. But Trump can’t afford to lose a single one. Without OH, GA, FL, or NC, he’s done. There’s conceivable path to victory that will do better than losing to her by a handful of EVs.

i was feeling a bit more congested today …

i should rephrase:

there’s exactly the same number of galaxies today that there were yesterday.
only knowledge has changed
and somehow that knowing makes it feel different

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

2 trillion galaxies, each containing somewhere around a hundred billion stars, each star likely home to 5-10 planets… the odds that we are alone in the universe are pretty much impossible.

re: #514 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

The Evolution of Galaxy Number Density at z < 8 and its Implications

The evolution of the number density of galaxies in the universe, and thus also the total number of galaxies, is a fundamental question with implications for a host of astrophysical problems including galaxy evolution and cosmology. However there has never been a detailed study of this important measurement, nor a clear path to answer it. To address this we use observed galaxy stellar mass functions up to z∼8 to determine how the number densities of galaxies changes as a function of time and mass limit. We show that the increase in the total number density of galaxies (ϕT), more massive than M∗=106 M_0, decreases as ϕT∼t−1, where t is the age of the universe. We further show that this evolution turns-over and rather increases with time at higher mass lower limits of M∗>107 M_0. By using the M∗=106 M_0 lower limit we further show that the total number of galaxies in the universe up to z=8 is 2.0+0.7−0.6×1012 (two trillion), almost a factor of ten higher than would be seen in an all sky survey at Hubble Ultra-Deep Field depth. We discuss the implications for these results for galaxy evolution, as well as compare our results with the latest models of galaxy formation. These results also reveal that the cosmic background light in the optical and near-infrared likely arise from these unobserved faint galaxies. We also show how these results solve the question of why the sky at night is dark, otherwise known as Olbers’ paradox.

Possible. Assuming our solar system is younger than other solar systems closer to the center of the galaxy, then it is entirely possible that older civilizations exist that have figured out the transportation issues. But there’s two ways those civilizations could go, call it Federation and Klingon - one is benevolent expansion and trade; the other is conquering empire. There’s no reason to believe either is more likely than the other; or that some version of the Prime Directive actually exists.

For the non-Star Trek fans out there, the Prime Directive is a rule (often broken) that first contact can’t be made until a planet develops faster than light speed travel.

Anthros propose that no matter how benign the advanced visitor, the less-developed civilization is doomed by contact. Technological imbalance, disease, world-view collapse, etc. wrecks the structure even if large numbers of the people survive.

do not go to her wiki page until it gets cleaned up.
It’s disgusting.

The deplorables sure hated that designation but can’t seem to help themselves from living up to it.

Just like the image above of the idiot with the bullhorn yelling at the media folks at the Trump rally. Sure is the actions of a mature well-developed and normal grown man.

I don’t think I’ve seen so many old farts acting like punk-ass 10 year-old bullies ever. Men and Women. What class. Boomers sure have a lot of asses in the age bracket. Bad thing is, they seem to have passed it down. Talk about home education.

Oh, it probably really is Reuters. Alex Jones offered to pay people $5,000 if they would shout that at Clinton rallies.

Ok, all the Democrats need to immediately stand up and shout, “Alex Jones is a Russian tool!”

Bangkok Post:

Nation in mourning

President Obama’s statement:

US President Barack Obama extended condolences to Thailand Thursday upon the death of His Majesty the King, calling him a “close friend” and partner of the United States.

Mr Obama paid tribute to the King, whose death at age 88 was announced on Thursday, as a “tireless champion” for Thailand’s development, praising his “unflagging devotion” to improving the lives of his subjects.

“His Majesty the King was a close friend of the United States and a valued partner of many US presidents,” Mr Obama said. “I had the honour of calling on His Majesty the King during my visit to Thailand in 2012, and recall his grace and warmth, as well as his deep affection and compassion for the Thai people.”

Even the President of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked

I saw Dylan sing this, solo, at Madison Square Garden in 1974, and the place erupted. That was when Nixon was being, um, stripped bare.

Worth a Nobel right there!

This, by the way, is a serious thought among Trumpites. I had a co-worker who thought Hillary was a member of the New World Order and her win would be signal for some kind of takeover. So, Trump’s talking point people are clearly scouring Facebook for things that resonate with the idiots. The principle being, find what your people believe, and repeat it back to them.

… and pray that there’s intelligent life out in space, ‘cause there’s bugger all down here on earth.
