Wayne Allen Root (Trump supporter): Trump couldn’t have groped anyone:

“If you’re a Christian, you just can’t spend your life worrying about the words of Donald Trump from 11 years ago,” Root said, “or what women he groped 30 years ago. I don’t believe any of it anyway. I believe Donald Trump is one of the handsomest billionaires that’s ever lived; I don’t think he ever had to grope a single woman ever. I think they threw themselves at him, so it’s all a lie.”

He was also the Libertarian Party candidate for President in 2008. I asked my wife about that, she said “it wasn’t my fault.”

Raw Story has an article of the four most likely voter intimidation tactics that might be encountered at the polls (includes a hotline telephone number for the ACLU).

If you live in a really liberal state like Oregon or a really conservative one like Nebraska, you have mail voting so you don’t have to worry about Trumpistas or poll workers with guns on their hips, or people with clipboards walking down lines telling you that the polls will close before you get to them.

That’s what makes spellcheckers worthless: “Let” and “their” are perfectly good words. So is “hat”, which I type for “that” half the time. He needs to pay some attention is what.

A spellchecker would not have caught that, as “let” is a word.

He needs command of vocabulary - a computer won’t help him much with that.

George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic endorses Hillary Clinton.

Sure, Donald Trump built a real estate empire.

But George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic has built an empire of funk and he has this to say: “No funk in da’ Trump.”

“He couldn’t possibly be in there (the White House), beyond no circumstances, I don’t care,” Clinton said. “I’m for her and that’s just cut and dry. You have to say something about that and he ain’t qualified for that, he’s just no way.”

Clinton stressed the importance of getting out to vote.

“Even if you if you don’t want to vote, it ain’t more twisted than that,” Clinton said. “You have to get (blanked) off at this point”

Yeah, he’s closer to a Fascist—properly so called—than to a Nazi, although a lot of actual Nazis support him. I guess they figured the whole Falangist thing with Santorum wasn’t catching on, so they’d try a pipsqueak Mussolini wannabe. Benito was a Titan compared with this guy.

Two weeks before Election Day, the Virginia Department of Elections temporarily blocked the registrar of the state’s most populous locality from posting to a statewide email list after the Fairfax County official strongly criticized the Virginia’s spotty computer system.

On a state-administered listserv email group for registrars, local officials discussed problems they were seeing Tuesday morning with old absentee ballot applications showing up in their queues to be processed.

The state has been plagued by IT problems in the runup to Election Day, with system crashes forcing the state to extend the voter registration period last week.

At 8:50 a.m., Fairfax Registrar Cameron Sasnett sent a screenshot of absentee voter applications that he said showed up in the Fairfax system Tuesday morning, despite being submitted in August and September.

“Where in the hell were these?!?!” wrote Sasnett, who also publicly criticized the state elections agency at a General Assembly hearing this month, according to emails that were obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Around 10 a.m., Sasnett said in an interview, he received a phone call from Elizabeth L. Howard, deputy commissioner of the state elections agency, informing him that his posting privileges were being suspended because of “inappropriate language.”

Germany has no-go areas, according to Podesta.

The German police admits that large immigrant areas of Berlin, Hamburg, the Ruhr Area, etc. have become police no-go areas, where criminals and extremists have free reign. Within no time at all, a lone police patrol car making a foray into Germany’s ethnic war zones finds itself surrounded by a baying lynch mob, much like US soldiers in Baghdad at the height of the troubles, added Roman Reusch.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. I awoke this morning to learn that Megyn Kelly and Newt Gingrich clashed last night over the nature of media coverage. Newt was busy complaining about how it was all about Trump’s sex scandals.

Well, Trump did say he was a sex predator. He did put his own character and judgment in question by saying as much (repeatedly). That women came forward to corroborate Trump’s statement shouldn’t be a surprise, nor should it surprise anyone that they waited to come forward for precisely the reasons that Trump stated - that he’s willing to sue anyone and makes threats of same on a regular basis, and that he’s Donald f’in Trump and he thinks he can get away with it because he’s rich and famous.

The women who claim they’ve been attacked by Trump have come forward because there’s strength in numbers. And it makes dismissing their claims more difficult.

But Trump nuts have decided to attack Kelly and these women all the same. They are fulfilling the deplorable moniker with every new statement, and Newt’s own arguments show how misogyny is part and parcel of the Trump strategy.

I read a lovely hypothetical that, given Trump’s nature, is entirely possible and would maximize the damage he does to the GOP. What if he decides not to wait until after he has lost the election to refuse to concede because the election was rigged? If Trump is headed toward a landslide defeat, he might decide to avoid the humiliation altogether by announcing he is boycotting the election because its “rigged.” Then, from his pov, he didn’t actually lose because he quit a rigged game. He and Bannon would also get satisfaction from devastating the GOP establishment as they go down to defeat thanks to millions of Trump voters staying home; revenge for their refusal to fully back Trump’s candidacy. I can hope for this to happen, right?

Yes, you can hope for that. To be honest, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Trump really did pull something like that, given his nature and Bannon being the bomb-thrower that he is, I could easily see him cheerfully colluding in such an effort.

Nice thought, this: but again in the category of ” we can only hope”….

I can get behind the idea of the egomaniac Trump “boycotting” the election over some BS or other, but I can only see it happening if polling keeps drifting away towards Clinton/Democrats without stabilizing in the last 10 days or so. I.e., if Hillary’s win starts to look more like FDR in 1936, rather than Obama in 2008.

Like the fact that he’s already halted major fundraising? (h/t dailykos.com)

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has effectively shut down his high-dollar fundraising operation for the rest of the campaign, a highly unusual move that deals another serious blow to the GOP’s effort to finance its get-out-the-vote operation before Election Day.

…Trump’s decision effectively turns off one of the main spigots to the Republican National Committee, which collected $40 million through Trump Victory as of Sept. 30. The party has devoted a large share of the funds to pay for its national voter mobilization program to benefit the entire Republican ticket.

…the RNC gets only 20 percent of the money that Trump raises online in conjunction with the party, while the vast majority of the big checks contributed to Trump Victory are routed to the party.

What was really insightful about Michiko Kakutani’s review of HITLER was that even Hitler wasn’t really a fascist in 1930. He was a tiny little troll of little consequence … but it took the widespread breakdown of democratic structures to weaponize the little shit and turn the Nazis into the greatest evil of human history.

So, no, Trump isn’t Hitler. And Trump isn’t really a great fascist dictator. But he’s a symptom of a much great decay, and that decay could metastasize if Americans aren’t more careful. Civilization and progress doesn’t happen by accident; it’s a deliberate choice that people fight to realize every day.

Bingo. That hurts the GOP, but if Bannon really wants to burn the house down so he can build a new alt-right party over the rubble, boycotting the election to sweep the GOP out of power would cause even more devastation, which is why I think its a real possibility. One thing that might keep Trump from doing it is fear that he would be labeled a quitter, though that has to be balanced against his fear of being labeled a loser.

After the Beer Hall Pustch debacle, most German political commentators of the era reckoned Hitler was finished, and he’d go down as a bizarre little footnote in German history. That was actually a reasonable assumption at the time - subsequent events would alter that view of course, but looking back to the particular moment in time, yeah…..I would’ve figured that Hitler had gambled and failed miserably and he’d never be heard from again, aside from as the butt of jokes.

A big cause of Gore’s defeat in 2000 was simply the flip in third party voting. Gore actually got almost the same percentage of the vote as Clinton got in ‘96, but in ‘96 Perot took over 8% of the vote, mostly from the GOP. In 2000 the Reform Party Nominee, Pat Buchanan, got only about 400,000 votes, while Nader took nearly 3 million, just enough to allow Bush to squeak to victory. The third party vote looks much more balanced this year; Johnson and Stein may draw a bit more Democratic than GOP support, but McMullin may win Utah and cost Trump 6 electoral votes.

Well maybe: but like most of Trump’s projects, it will probably turn out to be a hollow scam, and quickly go bust. The Republican Party isn’t going to go away after November’s election, whatever its electoral fate. The Party structure - its organization, staffing, donor base, think-tanks, etc. - will still be here, it will still be the #2 Party in a two-party system, still have a significant cohort of national and local officialdom - and will have learned its lesson from the Trump debacle.

Unfortunately for the country, I think that lesson will be that “Trumpism without Trump” is a winning formula, but we will have to see.

Obama has been on a rip roaring rampage of revenge against GOPers who have spent the past 8 year obstructing every part of the nation’s economic recovery and the President’s agenda. Now, when these same GOPers are busy trying to distance themselves from Trump and want to claim that they’re bipartisan and have worked with the Administration, the President is calling them on their shenanigans in no uncertain terms.

He did it with Issa, and he’s doing it with other vulnerable GOPers.

that’s a fair assessment, but I don’t agree with the last part. I’m not sure the TP/GOP leadership is capable of learning from its mistakes. They’ve been touting the same “trickle down” economic theory since Reagan’s years, a theory which when applied ruins the economy. They offer lip service to minority outreach, but do everything in their power to screw minorities over. And on and on.

Their big mistake with Trump was to see him only as the means to an end, to recapture the White House. They saw how he could energize the crowds, and thought that would translate into votes. They really didn’t like him much, but they held their noses and offered their support. No one apparently bothered to look into his closets to see what skeletons lurked there, and how those skeletons would damage his campaign and the party supporting him.

If Trump 2.0 appears in 2020, I’m pretty sure they’d do the same thing again.

Jeffreyw! I want to thank you for inspiring the best potato soup I’ve ever made (and the best several of my guests claimed they had ever tasted). You described your method for making the cauliflower soup last week and made me go “hmmm…” Instead of my usual method of just tossing it all in a pot l:

1) Cooked the tater chunks in chicken broth
2) Cooked bacon, smoked sausage, onion, and celery and set aside
3) Made a roux with butter and flour, added milk, cooked til thickened
4) Added about half of the potatoes and meat mixture, pureed with a stick blender
5) Added remaining potatoes and meat mixture to add some chunks/bite, salt and pepper

It was freaking delicious and a total hit. Thank you!

The reason that the GOP won’t remake itself into a party more welcoming to women and minorities is that its present model is enormously successful; the GOP probably holds more elective offices now than it ever has before. Its nearly impossible to change course with that kind of success, even if you can see that the bridge is out up ahead. That leaves the GOP vulnerable to another demagogue in its 2020 Presidential primaries, especially since much of the base despises the GOP establishment.

After this election, there’s a significant chunk of the American public that need deprogramming to counter years of GOP indoctrination that America sucks and that all it takes to make the nation great again is an old rich white dude who builds walls, screws women[s] (rights), hates immigrants, and wants people to hate anyone who isn’t white, that trickle down only makes rich moreso while burden shifting to everyone else, and who thinks that science and facts are a liberal conspiracy, etc.

I’m doubtful such deprogramming is even possible, given the grip the RW has on the sources of (dis)information these people rely on for news and opinion. It’s a constant bombardment of BS from Fox News, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Rush, Hannity, Coulter, et alia, that reinforces the message.

But, when Hillary opens up those FEMA camps and the liberal indoctrination programs start up, then we’ll see real progress!

True story:

I was second vehicle to stop (I had some emergency medical equipment in my truck). Soon there were several other vehicles. An SUV pulled over and yelled out to me: “BWS! That’s how we roll in the civilized portions of Kentucky.

Sadly, the McConaughey story appears to be fake. I like your story better, because it sounds just like Kentucky, especially the “want I should” part. LOL

Egg-zackly. These guys are, frankly speaking, not the sharpest tools in the shed. Changing demographics are their doom, but most politicians only think as far as the next election.

Presumably, the nation’s changing demographics will enable centrist Republicans to start winning and gradually push out the extremists as the old GOP base shrinks. The odds for that happening are favorable, especially if the Democrats move to the left, as seems likely, leaving room in the middle for the GOP to fill. It could take awhile, however, and let the Democrats hold the White House for a long time.

Another day, another hoax that wingnuts are eating like groceries:

Oregon ballot omitting Trump is a hoax

Twitter user John Lussier included the caption, “The Oregon state ballot doesn’t even bother with putting Trump on as a choice for president this year!”

It included several hashtags commonly used by Trump supporters, many of whom, quickly shared the tweet. Lussier also tagged several prominent right-leaning media outlets in the post to get more attention. The image was retweeted more than 1,000 times and reached thousands of people by Friday afternoon.

There was just one problem. It was a fake.

Within an hour of his first post, Lussier tweeted again, admitting his previous tweet was a hoax. He later clarified in a social media post that a friend had manipulated an image of an Oregon ballot using Photoshop.

I pointed out to a wingnut on FB that it was a hoax and provided the above link. His reply?

The upshot could be some badly-needed election process reforms designed to make the system as bullet-proof as possible. 8 Years of Obstructionism, Part II:

The GOP didn’t learn its lesson after blocking Obama’s every last move over the past 8 years. They’re going to double down with blocking Clinton’s agenda even before she’s elected President. They aren’t even shy about signaling what they’re going to do.

It’s just one more reason that the GOP must be stopped and Democrats must reclaim Congress - and hold it into 2018 and beyond. Off year elections matter. Every election matters, and the GOP has made it clear that they are no longer interested in governing.

ANALYSIS: Are Obama’s Wind Turbines to Blame for Hurricanes?

What causes hurricanes? Probably the U.S. government, but how? A new analysis suggests that President Obama might be using “green energy” turbines to weaponize the wind in an effort to rig yet another election with hurricanes.

There is not an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence to support this conclusion, most likely because the government has worked tirelessly to suppress it. But just think about it. Wind turbines. Wind energy. What are hurricanes made of? Wind. And lots of energy.

Yea, we knew that the only thing the House GOP will be interested in is Clinton investigations. Unfortunately, even if the Democrats miraculously win control of the House, the GOP will come roaring back into control of Congress in 2018, unless we find some magic that convinces Democratic voters that the midterms matter and they absolutely have to vote.

No, most likely, by Occam’s Razor, is that the conclusion is a load of complete crap, unsupported by facts. Don’t need an unwieldy full spectrum conspiracy to support that.

Oh FFS. In the EXPLOSIVE Wikileaks article he also mentions the “Obama generated hurricane” again.

Stayed tuned for more explosive revelations from WikiLeaks, because this is likely only the tip of the iceberg.

On a related note, this might explain why Hurricane Matthew, which evidence suggests was engineered by the U.S. military on President Obama’s orders, managed to “avoid” Virginia. McAuliffe is also a fan of “clean energy,” including wind farms, which many believe are responsible for government-engineered hurricanes.

Not really.

The America Colonists were pissed that the French Canadians got to keep much of their culture and law. They were also pissed because the Quebec Act meant a lot of Americans wouldn’t become rich by selling what had been French land.

It’s one of those widely ignored facts of American history that part of the reason for the Revolution was Americans didn’t like that their neighbours could keep their religion and their land.

I still have a core belief that their continuing blockage of everything is going to cause their demise as individual Republican politicians and maybe as a party.

Eventually enough people will grow tired and start voting in Democrats. Yes, it is going to take time. It is also going to take some educating the citizens since it seems our school systems don’t inform enough about politics and civics.

I hope Hillary is the one that will start this education process. She and her administration are going to have to start some kind of a tell-it-like-it-is campaign to let people know why we can’t get anything done in our current political mess.

Sounds like it would be a great job for the first ex-president, first man, explainer of all the things guy Big Bill. He can go around the country and hold information summits and town hall meetings and involve media and entertainers, historians, etc. for a big Reeducate America about our Government program.

Re Florida Senate race - who knows, this just might work:

That’s why, according to Politico, none other than Harry Reid is pressuring Schumer to find a way to get back in the game in Florida—and the easiest and simplest way is for Schumer to send some of his own campaign funds to the DSCC, which can in turn then deploy them on behalf of Murphy.

We can add our voices to that call. Schumer is a lock for re-election in dark blue New York, so he can certainly afford to part with a good portion of his campaign cash. Here’s how you can encourage him—politely—to do the right thing:

- Tweet at his campaign Twitter account, @ChuckSchumer, with the hashtag #RetireRubio.

- Drop a comment on his Facebook page.

- Email his campaign at info@chuckschumer.com.

You should use your own words, but our message is a simple one: “Please send money to the DSCC to help Patrick Murphy end Marco Rubio’s political career.” And there’s more than just the Senate at stake: If Rubio wins re-election, he’d be a frontrunner to challenge Hillary Clinton in 2020. If he loses, he’s kaput. Chuck Schumer can help drive a stake into Rubio’s ambitions once and for all.

I dunno - Democrats could do worse*. Harry Reid IS going to be a hard act to follow, though: Schumer - publicity-hound image notwithstanding** - is at least a loyal Party Guy, and a thorough Senate Guy, : he’s been there long enough to know the rules (and ways around them), and how to Work The System in the face of Opposition intransigence.
