The whole idea that we could build a wall between us and Mexico is pretty much the epitome of the simplistic, one-dimensional thinking that typifies American wingnuts.

Immigrants from Mexico a problem? Build a wall.

Terrorists launch attacks? Ban all Muslims.

No jobs? Kick all the “illegals” out.

Economy tanking? Cut taxes.

And so on and so forth. Anything more complex than a single sentence and their brains begin to hurt.

True story, just happened.

Heard a bang out front of the house. I asked my wife (who was near the front window) what happened. She says she thinks someone fell. I said OK and went on doing dishes. She looked out the window and said “no, someone had a case of beer and it broke, there are beer cans everywhere.” I rushed to see if they needed help.

Speaking of Snopes debunking SMOTI, here’s another recent one:

The entirety of Gateway Pundit article, reproduced above (with the exception of a video in which Donald Trump tells Hillary Clinton that she would be in jail if he were President), consisted of a catchy title, a baseless claim, and a screenshot of Mook’s Twitter page. Gateway Pundit did not point to a single tweet that Mook had purportedly deleted or provide any evidence that his Twitter account was altered after the FBI’s announcement.

The Gateway Pundit deleted their article shortly after publication (most likely because it was not backed up by any factual evidence) but, rumors continued to circulate that Mook had deleted his Twitter feed:

Too bad one faction of a party trying to upset another faction of the same party does not qualify for either treason or trial.

Yeah, the “serious” conservatives who I’d noted the other day had gone into silent running are now back, have forgiven Comey for his trespass against them, and are back to being convinced that the FBI is gonna reverse itself and finally give them the recommendation for indictment they feel entitled to and Lynch will play her part in refusing to indict and thus make her the villain again. And even if she doesn’t, the revelation that Hillary got “caught” will throw the election back to Trump.

It would seem that they’ve gotten over their funk and decided that the horse race is back on.

I like to quote the Federalist Papers (No. 43) when RWNJs start talking about “treason”:

As treason may be committed against the United States, the authority of the United States ought to be enabled to punish it. But as new-fangled and artificial treasons have been the great engines by which violent factions, the natural offspring of free government, have usually wreaked their alternate malignity on each other, the convention have, with great judgment, opposed a barrier to this peculiar danger, by inserting a constitutional definition of the crime, fixing the proof necessary for conviction of it, and restraining the Congress, even in punishing it, from extending the consequences of guilt beyond the person of its author.

Honestly, I don’t know what’s going to happen to the GOP after this election. I’m just not sympathetic to them at all. We needed a sane opposition party when President Obama was elected. And what have they given us? Petty bullshit because they couldn’t handle that Obama beat McCain in one of the best run presidential campaigns by a Democratic candidate in a while. A lot of their “sane” ones are going to try to act like Trump wasn’t the actual voice of the GOP but we know that’s bullshit. We know because we know what the GOP really wants out of their candidates. Maybe some Republicans did sincerely start out with a belief in limited government but the Republican Party has never actually practiced limited government in the modern era. No, instead they fret about things like transgendered people being able to go the bathroom of their choice. They deride Obama as a “community organizer” and then nominate Donald fucking Trump as their nominee. Cry about being called deplorables while their base shouts things like “Trump that bitch” or “jail her”.

There will be a runoff between a Republican and, probably, the Democrat Foster Campbell, a good guy and excellent longtime public servant, although doubtless too conservative for people who can’t grasp the fact that Louisiana will never vote for anyone really liberal. Unfortunately, Campbell will almost certainly lose to the Republican, who will be no better than a “David Duke without the baggage.” But Duke himself has almost no chance. I almost wish he would make the runoff, because he would be easier to beat than almost any of the other Republican nutjobs.

Have been reading steadily, but not much time to comment as there is a steady flow of people, paperwork and problems.

Belafon  Oct 29, 2016 • 5:38:55pm

David Fahrenthold really pegs Trump:

For as long as he has been rich and famous, Donald Trump has also wanted people to believe he is generous. He spent years constructing an image as a philanthropist by appearing at charity events and by making very public — even nationally televised — promises to give his own money away.

It was, in large part, a facade. A months-long investigation by The Washington Post has not been able to verify many of Trump’s boasts about his philanthropy.

But that’s not entirely a story about how Trump gives money away. It’s also a story about how Trump makes money.

Charities pay him to rent out his clubs and banquet rooms for fundraiser galas. At the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, they can pay $275,000 or more for a single night. Sometimes, Trump has given donations from the Trump Foundation to the charities that are his customers. But in some of those cases, he still comes out ahead

The picture at the top of the article is about an AIDS charity that Trump crashed, danced at, and then left without donating any money.
