Sorry, but I cannot sympathize with anyone who enters into a business agreement with DT and expects any sort of timely payment…
Mrs. Rabbit and I have had this discussion many times after one of these stories comes out, but it goes more along the lines of:
Why would anyone enter a business agreement with him at all. This knowledge has been out there for quite a while. Hell, even his lawyers sue him.

“Some people will say it’s not presidential. Do I care?”— Candace Smith (@CandaceSmith_) October 31, 2016
Just finished the Hate Rising documentary. Charles, thanks for posting it. I made the mistake of reading the comments. I agree with Ramos’ belief and I imagine many here on LGF will agree that Trump has unleashed something very ugly and legitimized white supremacy like no major party candidate has in the modern era. I’m honestly worried for our country even if Hillary does prevail next week because white supremacy and hostility to the other is prevalent like no other time in my lifetime. I’m not saying racism wasn’t around during my childhood in the 90’s but it wasn’t normalized like it is now and that’s squarely on Trump and his party.
@ChrisSnyderFox Sorry Bobby but Trumps whole campaign is based on Bullshit.

For me, it was knowing that the now Speaker of the House was meeting with other high ranking Republicans on Obama’s inauguration day devising ways to fuck him and his agenda. And McConnell’s now infamous statement about his primary goal was to make Obama a one term President. I don’t want conservatives and Republicans to ever complain again about how Democrats treat Republican presidents after the way these assholes without Trump’s help mind you treated our first African American president and I have no doubt how they will treat our first woman president too.

That’s what has me in a tizzy.
Dear God, will the voters in Richmond make this end?
A Henrico County judge this week allowed a woman formerly represented by Joe Morrissey’s law firm to withdraw a guilty plea amid allegations that the Richmond mayoral candidate pressured her for sex.
Kanika Shani Morris, 35, said Morrissey in February exposed himself to her in his law office and continued making advances through text messages.
When she repeatedly refused him, she said he handed over her case to another lawyer in his office, who pushed her into taking a plea deal — telling her that she hadn’t paid enough to have Morrissey himself represent her at the jury trial she had requested.

OK: (with apologies for reposting Donald Trump’s ugly smirking mug): what, exactly is supposed to be the “scandal” here - other than the usual Republican bullshit? Is Huma Abedin’s email supposed to be full of super-top-secret-classified-eyes-only intel that Hillary Clinton “carelessly” sent her, and which Huma “carelessly” let her sicko ex hack into (presumably to re-send as attachments to his dick pics)?
I realize that a large amount of the foofaraw is simply more of the same OMG!! Aw screw it. We know he’s just playing word salad, and happened to get a couple of words strung together that sound like a policy, but reality shows it to be nonsense.
Trump has no interest in protecting the environment. He’s too busy trying to exploit it (and the voters) to enrich himself.

I don’t see a huge downside for Hillary on this. More and more it looks like people who wouldn’t vote for her still won’t vote for her, and not expecting a big change overall.
Still, we should act like we’re a point or two down, do as much as possible to educate gently people to the truth, and hopefully get them in our camp, or at best, get them to see that a vote for Trump is a very bad thing, and to leave that line blank.

Having just watched the Ramos documentary, I was pretty touched. Despite the fact that a lot of these immigrants and their families have gone through tons of country, their faith and love of their adopted country is without question. I’ve seen this very trait with my brother’s extended family. In fact, I’d go so far to say that immigrants to this country have a particular appreciation for it that natives like myself can never have.

Trump ally busted for making up story about ‘secret’ Clinton meeting with Florida election officials https://t.co/ffsoIDF1zR pic.twitter.com/VpRK6qN4BY
— Raw Story (@RawStory) October 31, 2016
In a scathing editorial from the Sun Sentinel Editorial Board, the paper cites Stone claiming that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had a secret meeting with Broward County board of elections chair.
“You’ve got to wonder, why is the Democratic presidential candidate having a closed-door meeting with the supervisor of elections in one of the largest Democratic counties in the state and a county that has had a history of problems with their voting process?” the claim made on InfoWars. “We’re going to have photos right here on InfoWars shortly,” he promised. “Notice, by the way, that nobody in the traveling press entourage — and no one in the Florida press — has reported this private meeting.”
No photos of the event were ever released, probably because the meeting never happened. The claim may have come from someone named Marshall Buffins who also claims to be an attorney.
snip
While the editorial board came out with its Fact Check story, the day Stone began telling the story, the Sentinel reported that Broward Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes called the report “a big fat lie.”
“If Secretary Clinton or Donald Trump called and said ‘I’d like to speak to you about the operation that goes on in Broward County,’ I would meet with them,” Snipes added. “We run a nonpartisan office. I have not met with Secretary Clinton. I don’t know where that [rumor] came from.”
That doesn’t stop the alt-right and Stone from spreading the fake story, however.

Perot turned out to be fucking crazy in 1992 and still managed about 20% of the vote. But he was an independent. If you’re talking major party nominee, you could make an argument that George McGovern was pretty bad (but had LBJ decided to run and/or RFK not been assassinated, McGovern’s likely not the nominee) from the standpoint that he lost control of his campaign. Mondale was just not the right person for the time he was nominated. And of course there’s also Goldwater (in your heart, you know he’s right…. in your guts, you know he’s nuts).

My Dad was telling me that my Grandmother apparently really liked Adlai. He did have a lot of clever lines like how he found the Apostle Paul appealing and Norman Vincent Peale appalling. When you’ve lost fucking’ Joe Walsh…
Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), a frequent critic of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, said it was “wrong & unfair” for FBI Director James Comey to write a letter to Congress about newly discovered emails pertaining to Clinton so close to Election Day.
“I promise to honor my obligation to pay you for the polls you’ve been conducting for me - if they show that I win!”

Which likewise why I’m not that worried about the latest thing with the Clinton emails. 538 did a comparison of other revelations that came out late and they didn’t really move the dial that much and they were arguably more damaging than this.

Yeah, presidential losers not treated very well these days, although there were plenty of calls and expectations that Romney would run again this year.
Nixon was the last major party nominee to lose a general election and then be nominated again. I always thought Gore was going to run again, and maybe if the towers don’t fall maybe he does in 2004?
It’s hard to imagine though, unless you lose a really close election (as Nixon and Gore both did). Especially in this day and age.

And Nixon waited out 1964, a terrible year for Republicans but he used 1966 to gain a lot of good will with Republicans. That’s something I read about in Nixonland and Making of the President, 1968. Nixon was definitely to Goldwater’s left but he supported him and campaigned hard for him and lots of Congressional and Gubertorial seeking Republicans in 1966 which gained him a ton of good will. I thought Gore would consider running again in 2008 if he was going to make a comeback but it didn’t happen and to be honest, I am glad it didn’t. I like Al but Obama was what we needed.

No, that sounds right. One reason why Bryan struggled is he never really did too well with urban ethnic immigrants. The silver standard stuff never really appealed to urban workers that much. Plus, he was a nativist as well though not the KKK apologist the’d become later at the 1924 DNC where he opposed the plank condemning the KKK.

Bryan meant well in many instances, but his lack of understanding made his stances counterproductive. This is from Wiki, but I remembered it from Stephen Jay Gould:
Bryan was deeply influenced by Vernon Kellogg’s 1917 book, Headquarters Nights: A Record of Conversations and Experiences at the Headquarters of the German Army in Belgium and France, which asserted (on the basis of a conversation with a reserve officer he called “Professor von Flussen”) that German intellectuals were totally committed to might-makes-right due to “whole-hearted acceptance of the worst of Social Darwinism, the Allmacht of natural selection applied to human life and society and Kultur.”[58]
His fight against “Darwinism” wasbased on his well-founded horror at Social Darwinism, but he couldn’t tell the difference.
(Why don’t we call “Social Darwinism” what it is: “Spencerism”?)

Once again, I repeat, if you are truly scared of what Trump would do to our democracy, our government, our international reputation, and the peace of the world, THEN GET OUT THERE AND DO SOMETHING. Hillary Clinton needs you to get out the vote. Please go to her website and sign up for a shift. Here’s the link:
If you are in NY/NJ area, Pennsylvania is only an hour away. Even if she wins the state, you want to help elect a Democratic Senator.
If you are in California, then Nevada is a bit further away, but if you can spare a weekend to turn out the vote on Nov 5/6, it will be greatly appreciated.
If you are from Washington DC or Maryland, either head deep into Virginia or even to North Carolina to turn out the vote.
You won’t regret your effort even if Hillary Clinton wins big; but you will regret sitting there not doing anything if we are saturated with Trump + Republicans holding all three branches of government.

The 1908 election is kind of interesting since you had a very religious populist Democrat (Bryan) going against a very secular pro-business Republican (Taft.). Teddy Roosevelt even told Taft not to gold on Sundays but Taft pretty much said no, he liked to gold on Sundays and that’s what he was going to. Taft is pretty interesting IMO. I doubt I could have voted for him ever but he did actually bust more trusts than Roosevelt did and he was one of the most savvy Presidents we ever had when it came to the law.

Were the emails actually stored on the computer, or were they accessible from the computer? My email isn’t stored on my computer, as far as I know, but I do have access through the wonders of “the cloud.” Likewise, because I know Mr. C’s password, I have access to his email, and can bring it up on my computer with a click*. I’m pretty sure he can access my emails the same way. So maybe Wiener knows Abedin’s password and could therefore access her emails? She wouldn’t have put anything on his computer and wouldn’t know if he accessed them or not.
*Generally I avoid doing this, because his email management is a hot mess (and the content is pretty dull,) but once in a while it’s handy to check on a meeting time or something.

Mike Pence’s law of unintended consequences
An Indiana mom gets probation after claiming ‘religious freedom’ to beat children with coat hanger
Indiana mother who claimed “religious freedom” to beat her son dozens of times with a coat hanger has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to battery.
Kin Park Thaing, a refugee from Burma, cited the state’s new religious freedom law as a defense after she was charged with felony battery and neglect of a dependent, reported the Washington Post.
Police launched an investigation after a teacher noticed dozens of deep-purple bruises on the 7-year-old boy’s body in March, but Thaing asked for the charges to be dismissed in July under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, or RFRA.
Prosecutors said that was the first time the act, which was signed into law by Gov. Mike Pence, had been used as a defense for child abuse.
Thaing argued that she was acting out her Christian beliefs in punishing her child with the weapon, and she cited Proverbs 23:13-14 to claim a biblical directive to beat her children as punishment.

so much for the “honest mistake” tack that Josh at TPM was promoting if the CNBC info is true. It means that essentially the FBI “feels” that whatever e-mail information that could be illuminated on Clinton, despite her previous exoneration by the very same FBI, is suddenly more “threatening” than a foreign state, hacking a US political entity and attempting to drive the narrative (successfully, I might add) regarding who is “trustworthy”.
The fact that the FBI came down on the side of caution for treason makes me feel like the BLM folks can illustrate how the corruption on how right wing America feels about the rest of us permeates every layer of American Law Enforcement.

You’ve got your run of the mill bigots - racists and misogynists. Then you’ve got the nativists who also run among the white nationalists and white supremacists. Throw in the xenophobes who may also run with the Islamophobes.
That’s the GOP right now, especially because they’ve thrown their lot in with Trump.

Yes, his Wikipedia page (unvandalized thus far) more or less indicates as much. The only position there that departs from GOP orthodoxy is this one:
McMullin accepts the scientific consensus on climate change, saying: “I do believe that the climate is changing, and I do believe that human activity is contributing to it. If I were president, I would increase investment in technologies that can help us limit and decrease our carbon emissions.”

Exactly. Honestly, I think this is an old argument. It goes back to Roosevelt’s administration where FDR and his guys wanted to intervene in Europe and the isolationists did not. I understand why people were reluctant about WWII by the way especially in places like France that had seen entire villages wiped out but sometimes you just have to stand up.

Oh hey, you guys know how the racist alt-right is always carrying on about “white genocide,” right? See how the Juice are? They even take all the good words! //
I. Genocide - A New Term and New Conception for Destruction of Nations
New conceptions require new terms. By “genocide” we mean the destruction of a nation or of an ethnic group. This new word, coined by the author to denote an old practice in its modern development, is made from the ancient Greek word genos (race, tribe) and the Latin cide (killing), thus corresponding in its formation to such words as tyrannicide, homocide, infanticide, etc. Generally speaking, genocide does not necessarily mean the immediate destruction of a nation, except when accomplished by mass killings of all members of a nation. It is intended rather to signify a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves. The objectives of such a plan would be disintegration of the political and social institutions, of culture, language, national feelings, religion, and the economic existence of national groups, and the destruction of the personal security, liberty, health, dignity, and even the lives of the individuals belonging to such groups. Genocide is directed against the national group as an entity, and the actions involved are directed against individuals, not in their individual capacity, but as members of the national group. […]

Earlier this month, the group of computer scientists passed the logs to Paul Vixie. In the world of DNS experts, there’s no higher authority. Vixie wrote central strands of the DNS code that makes the internet work. After studying the logs, he concluded, “The parties were communicating in a secretive fashion. The operative word is secretive. This is more akin to what criminal syndicates do if they are putting together a project.” Put differently, the logs suggested that Trump and Alfa had configured something like a digital hotline connecting the two entities, shutting out the rest of the world, and designed to obscure its own existence. Over the summer, the scientists observed the communications trail from a distance.
I didn’t hear any questions at the debates that would warrant a heads up from Brazille. They seemed to be pretty dumbed-down questions so that even the Donald could join in.

re: #519 Nyet
When a new host name is created, the first communication with it is never random. To reach the server after the resetting of the host name, the sender of the first inbound mail has to first learn of the name somehow. It’s simply impossible to randomly reach a renamed server. “That party had to have some kind of outbound message through SMS, phone, or some noninternet channel they used to communicate [the new configuration],” Paul Vixie told me. The first attempt to look up the revised host name came from Alfa Bank. “If this was a public server, we would have seen other traces,” Vixie says. “The only look-ups came from this particular source.”
