Jim Hoft, Stupidest Man on the Internet, Falls for ANOTHER Fake Story, Then Sean Hannity Repeats It

Jim Hoft is heading for some kind of derp implosion, folks. He’s been posting fake stories nearly every day as the election gets closer, and today he fell for a scam from one of those fake news sites (“Your News Wire,” an obviously shady name if there ever was one) saying that Michelle Obama had deleted all her tweets about Hillary Clinton.

Of course, she didn’t. And Hoft could have discovered this if he’d done the bare minimum of fact-checking and actually looked at her Twitter timeline. Instead he ran with the story right away, with the screaming illiterate headline: Rats Jump Ship=> Michelle Obama Did Scrubs Hillary Clinton from Twitter History?

Michelle deleted Hillary’s tweets back to 2013.

And this time, Hoft’s ridiculous fake story (that came through Alex Jones crony Paul Joseph Watson) made it up to Fox News ranter Sean Hannity again: Fake story about Obamas, Hillary Clinton ensnares Sean Hannity.

Sean Hannity on Tuesday embraced a piece of fake news about President Obama deleting endorsements of Hillary Clinton from his Twitter account.

Hannity used the made-up news to claim that President Obama’s legacy might be “jail.” The deleted-tweets claim could have been disproven by a quick Twitter search.

The progression of events illustrates how fake news stories expand and spread from fringe web sites to nationally syndicated radio shows with millions of listeners. In this case, the fake news originated on a dubious site called “Your News Wire,” which publishes a mix of true, slanted and made-up news. Then, like a game of telephone, by the time the story got to Hannity, even the fake facts were wrong.

The site claimed that “Michelle Obama has scrubbed all references to Hillary Clinton from both of her Twitter accounts” and implied that it was the result of FBI investigations into Clinton.

A thicket of far-right-wing web sites picked up the story and ran with it. Red State Watcher said the news was “breaking!” and News Ninja 2012 said it was “suspicious.” “The rats are jumping ship,” The Gateway Pundit wrote.

Right wing bloggers and hacks like Hannity have now completely abandoned any pretense of caring about facts or reality, folks. They’re desperate, and going for broke. The truth about this story has been out for several hours, but Hoft has yet to correct his post. (And he probably won’t, because who cares?)

The thing is, the only people who are going to read and believe this stuff are loons who already hate Hillary and Michelle with the heat of a supernova, so it really has very little effect all on its own. But with Hillary Clinton, we’re seeing the cumulative effects of thousands of these fake stories repeated over and over for decades until even some people who should know better start semi-believing them.

I think they are mostly believing their own bullshit at this point. As GDF has said several times, it is basically impossible to consistently lie without eventually coming to believe the lies are true. God knows the GOP propaganda outfits have done enough lying to get this effect up to full force.

That’s me. Hewitt was teaching con law while I was there, but I didn’t take his class (many of my classmates used to say that he used it for show prep). I actually took con law with John Eastman (Chairman of NOM). Tim Canova, who challenged DWS in Florida this year, was also one of my professors.

Politics aside, all three of them were good guys. Fair to everyone, regardless of where they came down on legal theories or politics. I was a bit more of an ideological libertarian back then, so I didn’t really agree with them on a lot of different things, but they were always fair. I also remember Hewitt giving me a hard time because I skipped some religion and law symposium to watch a Dodger game in the student lounge (even though a friend of my came down from another school to go to it).

Well, Car Thief + Drumpfskind would be the worse of possible outcomes.

But I think Car Thief is in trouble exactly for the reason Drumpfskind was nominated by the Republicans: our demographics are begging for a change and any system that can’t bend with the wind will be broken.

As near as I can tell, the make-up of coastal San Diego county and southern Orange county is changing, slowly. Once the stronghold of Republicanism, an influx of young people and increased urbanization is turning the tide against ideological purity and more towards practical governance.

I expect bigger changes between 2016 and 2032 than we’ve seen between 2000 and 2016.

The last 16 years in the US has been strongly affected by 9/11. That and the Iraq war shaped our international relationships and our economy.

I have no idea if a major conflict will break out in the next 16 years.

We have a good chance to see the first summer without Arctic sea ice by then, though.

The last 16 years in the US has been strongly affected by 9/11. That and the Iraq war shaped our international relationships and our economy.

I have no idea if a major conflict will break out in the next 16 years.

This has to do with the economic centers of the location. Idaho is the best example. The majority of Malheur County in Oregon is economically tied to Boise, ID, so the Mountain Time Zone juts out into Oregon a little. And the panhandle of Idaho (Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint) is more economically tied to eastern Washington, so they’re in the Pacific Time Zone.

The election of 2032 will be the first election in which those school children will have an impact to change America. In part because it will be after redistricting post 2030 Census, and the state legislatures will be affected in 2030 by the kids in school today.

Since the poll is described as K-12, if the sampling is grade-proportional, roughly a quarter of those kids will be voting in 2020, roughly half by 2024. Your point about redistricting is very important, but one of the few good things about gerrymandering is that time often overcomes it fairly quickly in many districts.

I’ve also learned that one of my relatives left Kentucky for Indiana just prior to the Civil War. My suspicion - and it is only suspicion based on vague speculation and what little research I could gather - is that he left his slaveholder family and ran with an abolitionist family friend, married a Hoosier bride, and settled down in fish country.

North FL, from the top of the Panhandle down to somewhere not far north of Orlando, Sanford, and Melbourne, are basically extensions of south Alabama and south Georgia; Tampa and Miami are basically NYC South.

I really would like to visit Salt Lake City one day and see what they find. What’s been really disappointing for me is the side I’m most interested in is proving by far the hardest to research. But I did find a baptismal record of a great uncle of my grandmother’s that had his parents place of birth in Ireland listed so that was a lead but the catch is both their surnames are so common so even if I went there, I’d may as well be looking for a Smith or a Brown.

My family has all been here since before the Revolutionary War. Many of them served in it, and yes, I have a little Hessian blood in me, too.

The only major brick wall I hit is the one around the aforementioned relative. The documentary trace actually ends with him, and I have to rely heavily on informed speculation to guess at his ancestors. On every other branch of my family tree, I have managed to trace all the way back to the European roots.

Earliest war I got documentation for a vet is War of 1812. Shocked the hell outta me since I swore my earliest was Civil War. It’s easy to see which side was more well off. My German-American side is by far the most documented in photographs. We have photos of all four my dad’s dad’s grandparents although with his maternal grandfather, we can’t identify which man is him since it’s a group photo.

OTOH, there are other lines in the tree where clearly the ancestors are simple folk, illiterate, just moving around to try and make a living. What few records are left is because governments may have tracked them here or there.

It’s amazing to think about what our ancestors did. I mean it’s easy to just assume farmer. I actually got in touch with a lady in Germany who is a great granddaughter of my second grandfather who brought my relatives with my surname to the U.S. She was telling me that historically that the men in our family were potters. And it turns out the second great grandfather was an upholsterer. Never ever would have guessed that. Families statuses come and go though. One of the Irish names I have is from a prominent Norman-Irish lord but I have no doubt that his subsequent descendants were far from nobility.

Let’s hope so. Yeah though, I read about the Four Courts fire of 1922. Damn shame. There were also records that were destroyed during the outbreak of WWI too. Sigh. It’s how history works though. I am very obsessive. I just wish I could name a place so I could hope to visit one day. I do know where specifically in the other countries though and have even done some talking with family there. One even sent me a historical calendar of the village.

Pennsylvania has extensive death records from the first half of the century 20th or so. Located a third great grandmother’s there. Man what a life that woman lived. From rural, Gaelic speaking Ireland to living in the age of early flight.

Name misspelling is easier for me to deal with, because with such a singularly unique last name, even its misspellings are easy to spot in records. However, part of the major roadblock with the aforementioned ancestor is due to the fact that he left home in 1843… meaning he was listed in his own homestead on the 1850 census, but in the 1840 census he would be listed as a tally mark under someone else’s name, with no clue as to who that individual may be. I think I chased down the most likely individual based on balance of probability, but it will probably never be known - even more so, if my suspected story is true, and the result of him leaving his family was due to an abolitionist/slaveholder break. That’s enough to get you disowned.

I know anecdotal observations do not equal data, but the early voting numbers from NC are surprising. The peeps I was working with were adamant about early voting. The first thing they said every morning to their co-workers was “have you voted yet?” One woman had a daughter who was going to school in Charlotte, but convinced her NOT to change her registration from Durham in case they fucked with her vote—she drove to Charlotte to bring the daughter home for the weekend so she could vote. Out of the 100+ peeps at the job and the 20 or so on my crew, all but two were solid and enthusiastic Hillary. One woman, a transplant from Chicago, was going to leave the president line blank, and one of my peeps was toying with voting for Stein—I tried to disabuse her of that thought—but I think I scared her so I never brought it up again.

I had one guy working for me who was a crunch granola type—older guy, Birkenstocks, rode his bike 15 miles to come to work. Figured him for an aging hippie. Then he asked me what I thought of the
“bathroom bill” and I told him exactly what I thought. I asked him what he thought and he responded (in a truly pompous, Republican tone), “I believe in traditional values.” I countered with, “Oh, so you believe in treating all people with kindness, right?” He had nothing further to say.

Arggh—so exhausted—I need to go to bed and sleep for many hours—if that’s possible between coughing fits…

It’s not even the helpful kind of idealism where they use their idealism to make the world a better place. Now to be fair, I do have a guy I went to college with who is a Green guy who actually does do what he can but a lot of these types I see would rather bitch about how they don’t have their purity pony rather than working one little way to make their surrounding area a better place.

It is a bit of an eye-opener, when one discovers that certain wedges in the pedigree are from a different culture and social status.

I have ancestor who were relatively well off and left documentation. They (at least the males) were literate.

OTOH, there are other lines in the tree where clearly the ancestors are simple folk, illiterate, just moving around to try and make a living. What few records are left is because governments may have tracked them here or there.

The interesting thing I have been seeing looking at some material that was collected for my brother is how much a rural region in the 19th century will intermarry given half a chance. I am looking at this one tree and seeing the same family names pop up in multiple places in the tree. And it turned out that my great-great-grandfathers married daughters of the same man, so my family tree on the one side branches out and then merges back together.

Name misspelling is easier for me to deal with, because with such a singularly unique last name, even its misspellings are easy to spot in records. However, part of the major roadblock with the aforementioned ancestor is due to the fact that he left home in 1843… meaning he was listed in his own homestead on the 1850 census, but in the 1840 census he would be listed as a tally mark under someone else’s name, with no clue as to who that individual may be. I think I chased down the most likely individual based on balance of probability, but it will probably never be known - even more so, if my suspected story is true, and the result of him leaving his family was due to an abolitionist/slaveholder break. That’s enough to get you disowned.

Yeah that’s quite true. Honestly, thinking about my own immigrant ancestors makes me have a lot of respect for today’s immigrants. Certainly, it’s probably a little safer getting here now than it was then but to leave your home that’s all your family has ever known for a new land? That’s courageous. And I have to say while Rafael Cruz’s world view disgusts me as have some of his attacks on President Obama for Trump to say what he did about him and the Kennedy assassination was despicable.

I have to think the Cuban community, a hard working group of people, wouldn’t appreciate Rubio blowing off his duties, saying he was stepping away from politics only to turn around and run again - while refusing (at least initially) that he wouldn’t commit to serving the entire term.

I just don’t see that community liking that.

I have to think the Cuban community, a hard working group of people, wouldn’t appreciate Rubio blowing off his duties, saying he was stepping away from politics only to turn around and run again - while refusing (at least initially) that he wouldn’t commit to serving the entire term.

I just don’t see that community liking that.

I’d hope so too. That’s just speculation on my part. I could be wrong. Anyhow, I really hope Murphy pulls that one out too. Rubio’s a terrible senator. He’s not hte biggest wingnut in the Senate but he’s one of the biggest hacks.

Yeah. It also assumes that everyone can just take time off to protest whenever the Congressional R’s reject policy. Honestly, I’m definitely more to the left of Obama and Clinton but I prefer their approach because their way will have long lasting change in a way that even if a nutter like Stein were elected could never do. Stein would be forced to do a lot of things by executive order that could easily be reversed and I highly doubt she would have a capable cabinet either.

Yeah, should have worded that a bit better, but I thought my point got through. Could Trump still win next week? Sure. But with the present match-up in terms of polling, he needs a line of states to fall down like dominoes for him, one after the other. If even one fails to fall, it’s over for him. Hillary has so many paths to the presidency that you can make long lists of the states she could afford to lose and still win. But Trump basically only has one right now and it’s a very narrow one.

Even still, Florida is a must win state for him. By the way if it’s 10%, that’s a little higher than average. I think Romney was getting like 90-92% of the registered R vote. State records don’t say what Nate is asserting, they don’t break down how demographics voted or indeed return votes at all at this point. What happened in Florida is they called people who they KNEW already voted and asked them directly. Nate is talking about cold calls to people who SAY they’re Republicans who already voted and he’s wrongly attributing those results to the State.
