PRI.org story about some in the LGBT community voting for Trump

“Gay people have already achieved our goals,” Natale says. “We can be Republicans now.”

Since the Supreme Court’s decision in June 2015 to legalize gay marriage, the gay rights movement has been at a crossroads, says New York University professor Frances Kunreuther. A scholar of the LGBT movement, she says the movement has failed to coalesce around one issue in a world where marriage equality is now the law of the land.

“There may be a portion of the LGBT community that does not experience racism, sexism, discrimination, transphobia or immigration issues, and they may not feel the need to go to the polls for LGBT rights,” Kunreuther said. “They feel like their rights have been won.”

Already throwing in the towel?

Most of the Undecided will be killed crossing the street to the polls, as they fail to evade oncoming trucks.

In most years I’d agree with you. That being said, this year, we have a party that has a serious conundrum. Remember in May when all of us were yelling at Sanders’ supporters and saying ‘it’s all about the Supreme Court, dumbass!’? Right now, that calculus is going on on the other side of the aisle.

Conservatives are trying to calculate whether or not Trump could be contained enough to at least defend the SC and make some progressive gains. They know that if Clinton picks 3 justices for the Supreme Court, it could be locked liberal for a generation. As much as this sounds like great news for most of us, this is apocalyptically bad if you’re a conservative, especially a social conservative.

Me too. They also ignore the amount of LGBT youth that are homeless and the fact that employers can still fire you for being homosexual or transgender.

Unfortunately there is a subset of the LGBT community that has the same mentality as those of Peter Thiel: being part of an elite that benefits from the hard work of his subordinates and disposing them when they have outlived their usefulness.

That should make you consider how ill-advised your comment was, that most people just whooshed right past it scratching their head at your attempt at logic. I actually haven’t seen anyone say that if Trump won the Presidency because of the dishonest BS, that he still wouldn’t be President, or they would start impeachment proceedings day 1. That’s the connection you might be missing. On one hand you have the actual candidate saying his loss would be due to rigging despite never being ahead the entire race, and on the other hand you have at the least one “unknown” third party committing illegal acts to sway public opinion.

re: #3 Emptor scriptor Remorse

Considering that the Trump administration starts off with every question under the book, starting with its ties to foreign powers and it’s principle being sued for everything from raping a minor to tax issues to charitable foundation that pays off bills improperly to scamming people out of their life savings in a scam school to bilking contractors and workers out of contractually obligated payments all to further enrich himself, what exactly is legitimate about a Trump presidency?

If he wins, he’ll be president. No one is denying him this, or denying that he’d be able to push his agenda, particularly since if he wins, it all but guarantees that he’d have a favorable Congress to work with that will help him destroy Obamacare, the safety net, and everything else that is meant to protect the general welfare of the nation.

There will be a loyal opposition to be sure, and I would hold him to it, but his word and deed are impossible to consider binding when he shifts and ducks everything imaginable - no matter how petty.

That compares with the GOP treatment towards Clinton, who they’re already signaling will be unable to make judicial nominations and be the focus of endless investigations because the GOP isn’t interested in governing or legislating. They want to kneecap a Clinton presidency even before she’s in office. They will thwart and block Clinton’s presidency at every opportunity - not because it is the good and right thing, but because they oppose on purely political terms, and the nation will be worse off for it.

Well fuck. They just wrote off my car. They haven’t told me how much they’re going to give me yet.

Ouch! Let me guess, they are saying repair costs are more than the value of the car.

Yet, the car was probably still in decent shape and had life in it.

Sorry to hear that. When you mentioned it before, it sounded like the damage was sort of light.

Nope, not at all. Reminds me of the ugly chapter of the California ballot in 2008 where they went off on black people for voting No back then.

Yeah I do remember that too. Honestly, it all just saddens me. Working class whites in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and other places, descendants of immigrants who got shit because of their accents and were assumed to be radicals joining the Trump parade just saddens me. It’s personal too since that’s my background. Nativism and racism are so ugly. At the same time, I am glad my own family has perspective. My parents think nothing less of the fact that their only granddaughter is Hispanic and in fact joke that she’ll be dancing better than us because of her Latin roots.

Yeah, it’s shocking that after Ann/Egg said things like

“Women, you need to wake up. Women have to ask themselves who’s going to have and be there for you. I can promise you, I know, that Mitt will be there for you. He will stand up for you, he will hear your voices”

and

“I love the fact that there are women out there who don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids.”

that Romney only lost women by 18 points.

Nervous World Markets Signal a Real Possibility of a Trump Win

“Trump’s victory could lead to volatility, flight to safety, and sell-offs in stocks,” Soeren Moerch, the head of fixed-income trading at Danske Bank in Copenhagen, told Bloomberg on Wednesday. “We still think Clinton will win, and it will be business as usual, but it has become a very tight race.”

His comments follow a letter signed by 370 economists who warned Americans that electing Trump would be a catastrophic mistake. The number crunchers, who included a handful of Nobel laureates, said the Republican nominee is a “dangerous, destructive choice” as he “promotes magical thinking and conspiracy theories.”

Well, this is helpful:

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, which is located in the Old Town neighborhood of San Diego and that will be a polling place on election day, distributed a weekly newsletter in mid-October that had a flier inserted in it that told parishioners they’d go to hell if they voted for Democrats.

This is ok though.

“I will make sure that you and I meet one day while we’re in the courthouse. And I will take you for every penny you still don’t have. And I will come after your Daily Beast and everybody else that you possibly know,” Cohen said. “So I’m warning you, tread very fucking lightly, because what I’m going to do to you is going to be fucking disgusting. You understand me?”

“You write a story that has Mr. Trump’s name in it, with the word rape, and I’m going to mess your life up … for as long as you’re on this frickin’ planet … you’re going to have judgments against you, so much money, you’ll never know how to get out from underneath it,” he added.

Sez Who? Trump lawyer, Michael Cohen.

Alrighty then:

The church claims that it did not insert the fliers into its weekly bulletins and said that they were not authorized.

“For all I know someone thought that they were doing a service,” diocese spokesman Kevin Eckery said of the flier.

I was reading the article below the other day. The GOP needs to be defeated resoundingly because these religious right assholes are still intent on tearing down the wall between church & state:

Religious leaders risk losing tax-exempt status for picking side

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A 50-year-old rule in the federal tax code has been thrust into the middle of the presidential campaign, and it’s creating a big debate over the separation of church and state.

It’s called the Johnson Amendment, and Donald Trump wants to repeal it. […]

Fifty-two years after Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson introduced a federal tax rule prohibiting 501(c)(3) organizations from supporting political candidates, Republicans are calling for a change. […]

McDonald said he believes this push to allow tax exempt organizations to support candidates is only going to get stronger.

“In 2012 I kind of saw an eclipse of it. I saw it start to permeate a little bit. Now it’s really proliferated to where people are asking questions and really wanting to know what it’s about,” McDonald said. […]

239
Backwoods_Sleuth  Nov 3, 2016 • 12:27:51pm

Wonder if Reince can put a lid on donald about this:

U.S. District Judge Gerald Pappert, a Republican and former state attorney general, took a dim view of his party’s request to rewrite the state’s 79-year-old Election Code just days before Tuesday’s general election.

“There is no need for this judicial fire drill and [the Republican Party] offers no reasonable explanation or justification for the harried process they created,” Pappert wrote in a ruling released Thursday.

Pappert, as he did during a hearing on the matter last week, noted that legislation to amend the Election Code was introduced in the state House in January 2015. The Republican-controlled House did not bring that measure up for a full vote.

The Election Code requires poll watchers, appointed by candidates or political parties, to serve in the county where they are registered to vote.

Trump, in rallies in Pennsylvania and other states, has repeatedly claimed - absent evidence - that the election is “rigged.”

snip

Pappert, in his ruling, said the Republican Party’s “preoccupation with the role of poll watchers to deter purported voter fraud disregards other aspects of the regulatory framework” such as election board workers from the Democratic and Republican Parties who oversee polling place operations and have more authority than poll watchers.

And he said the Republican Party’s claims of voter fraud are “based on speculation … and the unproven assumption” that traveling poll watchers would be able to stop that crime.

Megan Sweeney, a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Republican Party, called Pappert’s ruling “a blow to openness and transparency in our electoral system.”

New barnacle removal procedure:

2) Project an image of Trump onto said surface.

I used to be a political science major and the study of campaign effects is pretty standard, but I haven’t kept up with the research to know how campaign appearances and the like affect election results.

I do recall one analysis by a Republican consultant about the 2000 election who found that only candidate on either ticket moved the numbers with visits—Lieberman.

But most election analysis tends to find little impact on things like campaign appearances and debates, etc. Election results tend to be seen to result from broader economic and demographic trends.

Trump is the absolute negation of all positive human qualities, which specifically includes: kindness, honesty, respect, compassion and charity.

My current theory for Melania is that she is incapable of seeing Trump, at all. The only thing that registers for her are the financial transactions that let her live in luxury.

“…My subject this time is Don Colbert, M.D. who practices “anti aging and integrative medicine” at his Divine Health Wellness Center in Orlando, Florida. If there weren’t enough red flags in that sentence for the skeptics reading this, know that he “has been featured on Dr. Oz” and on “many prominent Christian TV programs.” In typical fashion one of his websites tries to sell you a wide variety of supplements that make fairly vague claims about weight loss and immune support. His separate clinic website mentions chiropractic, something called “Multi-Dimensional Brainwave Therapy” and “Emotox - Allergy Testing” which apparently uses a “cold laser” to treat allergies. And to top it all off, Orac reports that he’s anti-vaccine to boot. This guy is not a friend of science.
