Eric Trump Says David Duke ‘Deserves a Bullet,’ but Eric Appeared on a White Nationalist Radio Show in October

The hypocrisy, it burns

So today, Donald Trump’s surrogate son Eric actually said, in public, that David Duke ‘deserves a bullet.’

(CNN)Eric Trump said on Thursday that former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke deserves “a bullet.”

“Ross, it’s disgusting and by the way, if I said exactly what you said, I’d get killed for it but I think I’ll say it anyway,” the Republican nominee’s son said after host Ross Kaminsky of 630 KHOW Denver radio suggested Duke deserves a bullet to the head. “The guy does deserve a bullet. I mean, these aren’t good people. These are horrible people. In fact, I commend my father. My father’s the first Republican who’s gone out and said, ‘Listen, what’s happened to the African-American community is horrible and I’m going to take care of it.’”

OK. We don’t endorse speech that advocates violence, but at least he’s renouncing former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke in no uncertain terms, right?

But if he’s really this vehement about denouncing white supremacists, maybe somebody should ask Eric Trump why, less than a month ago, he gave an interview to a Tennessee radio show that’s every bit as racist as David Duke: Donald Trump’s Son Eric Appears on Radio Show With Ties to White Nationalists.

Donald and his spawn can publicly disown the white supremacist movement (which they do slowly and grudgingly at best), but the white supremacist movement sure aren’t disowning Trump. politicususa.com

If I could say something to Trump, it would be along this line….

When the people you call horrible people are attracted to your message, that they view you as “their candidate”, that sites like stormfront are all-in for you should tell you something if you’re willing to listen. It should tell you that your message is a message of hate, of protecting white privilige, of setting “US” vs all the “Thems” out there. It’s Fascism wrapped up in the Flag and carrying a Bible”

I’d argue the message he’s really sending is “Remember what happened to Ernst Röhm” when Röhm became perceived as a threat.

After WWII ended in Europe my grandfather traveled to Berlin and helped loot the place. He retrieved an actual knife used in Night of the Long Knives that belonged to an SA officer. It still has bloodstains on it to this day (my father keeps it now).

There was some racket here locally after the Cubbies won. (The team plays spring ball in a stadium here in Mesa.) Earplugs FTW.

But then you have to get up and go to work and face this sort of thing:

Inside Wells Fargo, workers say the mood is grim
money.cnn.com

and

Warren Asks If Reports Show Wells Fargo Punished Fired Workers
bloomberg.com

I found out about the articles because bank management sent out an email talking about them this afternoon. Management’s “disappointed.” I’m more than disappointed. Wells Fargo’s been part of my life since I was born (parents did/do their banking there), and I’ve worked there for 18 years. This whole thing has been devastating. I’m just glad my dad isn’t here to see it.

One of my friends passed this “joke” to me: “Tell my mother I sell meth. It’s not true but that way I don’t need to admit I work for Wells Fargo.”

Of course he’s going to punish his enemies, not theirs, and he might even see a lot of his supporters as undesirables to be dealt with to Make America Great Again too. The right wing authoritarian personality type seems to mistake the leader’s goals for their own. They’re so distrustful of the people wingnut media told them to hate, but will go along with absolutely anything from people they identify with.

Frum wrote an article in the Atlantic on this.

I found the following sobering:

The lesson Trump has taught is not only that certain Republican dogmas have passed out of date, but that American democracy itself is much more vulnerable than anyone would have believed only 24 months ago. Incredibly, a country that—through wars and depression—so magnificently resisted the authoritarian temptations of the mid-20th century has half-yielded to a more farcical version of that same threat without any of the same excuse. The hungry and houseless Americans of the Great Depression sustained a constitutional republic. How shameful that the Americans of today—so vastly better off in so many ways, despite their undoubted problems—have done so much less well.

59
jaunte  Nov 3, 2016 • 8:29:47pm

Paul Waldman:

“…It’s important to understand that strong institutions are what separate strong democracies from weak ones. In a strong democracy, one party can’t come into power and just lock up its opponents. It can’t turn the country’s law enforcement agencies into a partisan tool to destroy the other party. It can’t say that the courts will function only at its pleasure. We have the world’s most stable system not just because there aren’t tanks in the streets on election day, but because we have institutions that are strong enough to restrain the venality of individual men and women. And now, Republicans are not even pretending that those institutions should be impartial and transcend partisanship. They’re saying, if we can use them to destroy our opponents, we will. Something is seriously breaking down.”

This is so fucked up.

The man who now leads “lock-her-up” chants at Trump rallies spent decades of his life as a federal prosecutor and then mayor working closely with the FBI, and especially its New York office. One of Giuliani’s security firms employed a former head of the New York FBI office, and other alumni of it. It was agents of that office, probing Anthony Weiner’s alleged sexting of a minor, who pressed Comey to authorize the review of possible Hillary Clinton-related emails on a Weiner device that led to the explosive letter the director wrote Congress.

WaPo has an interesting analysis of the dynamics of the relationship between Hillary and Putin here: washingtonpost.com

In short, Clinton does not trust Putin any farther than she can throw him, and is unlikely as president to let him get away with expansionism. So, it’s logical to assume Putin would prefer not to have Clinton win.

That could really backfire. Melania is a horrible surrogate as is, but like Trump’s kids it’s best if the Clinton Campaign treats them as off limits. It contrasts well with his attacks on Bill and the comparisons are in people’s heads already. The last thing Clinton needs is people casting Melania as the victim.

Represented, or assumed they knew the will of the people?

If you look at the context of the comment, it’s the same thing. It’s all about the rhetoric. State for the people or the people for the state? No real contradiction, rhetorically, since “people” and “state” were two sides of the same coin.

re: #267 uncah91

Can that really be said of most WWII era communist countries? Soviet Russia went from Czar to communism through a violent revolution. I don’t think democracy was more than a fiction there?

No one claimed that democracy was real, moreover, that’s the whole point. The reality and the rhetorical plane were further apart than ever.

re: #285 Teukka

I know. What I meant was that anything deeper than a very superficial study of those events and their backstory will overall give the impression of a right-wing fascist movement, and that the left-wing hints you have feel “off” in various ways.

And I do know that fascism (in the general sense) can rise from right, left or center (which is why I don’t let my guard down ever for the warning signs), but always end up veering clearly right.

Ideologically fascism is on the right, but nothing would have prevented Hitler’s ideas from flourishing in a substrate of a Soviet-like socialist economy (at least for a time - historically, socialism hasn’t worked well). It would have been a right-wing form of socialism, if you will. Socialism doesn’t have to be internationalist or democratic. In fact, under Stalin (at the end) it was, de facto, neither.

That there (apparently) has never been “pure” fascism on a socialist basis is more of a happenstance than any kind of a definitional rule. A couple of “wrong turns” and the Stalinist system could have become full blown fascist ideologically. Stuff for alt-history fiction.

Fuck Donald Trump for making David Frum look reasonable.

Also, fuck David Frum for helping make Donald Trump possible.

From Frum’s Atlantic piece:

I more or less agree with Trump on his signature issue, immigration. Two years ago, I would have rated immigration as one of the very most important issues in this election.

I’m not sure how one “more or less agree[s]” with Trump on immigration without agreeing with the anti-Hispanic and anti-Muslim rhetoric. So, while I’m glad that he’s at least grounded in reality, I’m still not thinking he’s reasonable.

My party will recover to counter her agenda in Congress, moderate her nominations to the courts, and defeat her bid for re-election in 2020.

No, senior members of your party have already said that they won’t consider her nominations to the courts at all. Why does Frum insist on running this fantasy version of the Republican Party in his head, from which Trump is a weird momentary aberration? It’s too painful for him to admit that in his pursuit of “the tax cut I’d get from united Republican government,” that he has made common cause with the worst tendencies of American society? Play ‘The Voter Suppression Trail’

Note to viewers: “The Voter Suppression Trail” is the first-ever video game for Op-Docs, and also the final installment of our series of Op-Docs about the 2016 election. We hope you enjoy playing, and let us know what you think in the comments. —The Editors

In the 1800s, Americans made heroic journeys to settle in the West. These journeys inspired the classic computer game “The Oregon Trail,” beloved by grade school students across the country in the 1980s and ’90s.

On Nov. 8, a new generation of Americans will make their own heroic journeys — to the polls. Some paths will be more intrepid than others, particularly for blacks, Latinos and pretty much anyone who brings the kind of diversity to our polling places that they have historically lacked. Thanks to laws passed by Republicans to fight the nonexistent threat of voter fraud, the perils will be great. Long lines and voter ID laws, not to mention pro-Trump election observers, will try to keep these voters from the polls.

To celebrate these journeys, we’ve created a video game: “The Voter Suppression Trail.” Play as a white programmer from California, a Latina nurse from Texas, or a black salesman from Wisconsin. Experience the thrill of standing in line for hours at your understaffed polling place! Try to surmount voter ID laws! Avoid intimidation by Donald Trump’s election observers! Will you fend off the rhetoric of angry election “observers,” or heed calls from your boss and get out of line, or will you experience the fulfilling patriotic reward of casting a provisional ballot that will probably never be counted? Find out — play now!

sam wang at cnn on “election anxiety”

calming takeaways - maybe i shoulda bolded the whole thing

I try to separate the drama from the data.

I noticed that no matter what happened, opinion didn’t move that much. The race has shown less variation than ever in the history of presidential polling. It made me realize that the race probably wasn’t going anywhere

the national margin between Clinton and Trump has stayed within a five-point range, from Clinton ahead by two to seven points.

Clinton is effectively ahead in the Electoral College by 3%, which means she’d have to lose that much across the board for Trump to have even odds of winning. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but the race hasn’t gotten to that point all year. It is doubtful that it will happen in the closing days.

It would be better if we had more history and less horse race in news coverage.

Authorities are investigating apparent tampering with an electronic road sign at a busy Virginia commuter lot that resulted in a disparaging remark about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and a call for people to “Vote Trump.”

The sign at the Tackett’s Mill commuter lot in Lake Ridge flashed three consecutive message screens: “CROOKED HILARY”; followed by a profanity (“IS A B——”); followed by “VOTE TRUMP.”

The messages were on display for an unknown period Tuesday evening while commuters headed to their homes in the Virginia suburb, about 25 miles southeast of the District of Columbia.

The “you can’t make this shit up” line of the DOE’s report on Penn State:

The university argued police couldn’t determine whether the interaction rose to the level of a sex offense and because it was unclear a crime occurred there was no need to log it. But the Department of Education noted campus police logged far less serious matters, including someone sleeping in a stairwell.

“In light of these entries, Penn State’s contention that the reported incident of a middle-aged man inappropriately touching an 11-year-old boy, while naked and showering with him, didn’t rise to the level for inclusion in the daily crime log strains credulity,” the Education Department wrote in its report .

Bundy trial aftermath. Proseuctors didn’t seem to do a good job:

According to the juror, everyone on the jury agreed that the protesters used intimidation, threats and force during the occupation to prevent workers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bureau of Land Management from performing their duties. But prosecutors failed to show that Bundy and the others had conspired to do so, he said.

“We were not asked to judge on bullets and hurt feelings, rather to decide if an agreement was made with an illegal object in mind,” Juror 4 said. “It seemed this basic, high standard of proof was lost upon the prosecution throughout.”

At times, the juror continued, prosecutors came off as arrogant, asking them to infer the existence of a conspiracy. That apparently irritated some on the jury.

“Inference, while possibly compelling, proved to be insulting or inadequate to 12 diversely situated people as a means to convict,” he said. “The air of triumphalism that the prosecution brought was not lost on any of us, nor was it warranted given their burden of proof.”

Deficiencies in the prosecution cropped up throughout the proceedings, the juror told the Oregonian. Prosecutors did not present witnesses who showed that the group intended to impede federal workers, the juror said, planting “a seed of doubt that grew.” Nor did prosecutors present evidence that showed a conspiracy between Bundy and another occupation leader who pleaded guilty, he said.

If it wasn’t classified at the time it was sent/received, then Clinton did nothing wrong by having it.

In fact, it was misclassified and wasn’t properly identified as per regulation - it must have a header identifying the classification level, and (c) in the margin for a solitary statement within an email isn’t a proper classification of the email. And it indicates confidential, not classified in any event.

The email was improperly marked, the State Department later identified it as such, and it was unclassified.

Rinse and repeat. The hunt to find wrongdoing has revealed that far too many emails and items are classified, many of them on flimsy grounds, and that the classification rules need to be updated and simplified.

Clinton didn’t do anything illegal, but it isn’t stopping Trump, the GOP and right wingers from pressing on.

I watched Bull a couple of weeks ago and they were in TX for a trial and the first thing Bull did was ensure that they had a good old boy lawyer for the defense…knowing that the local jury, who always found for the plaintiff corporations (in this case a drug company), would not like some NY lawyer (in attitude) shitting all over their small TX town.

I served as forewoman on a jury and we found for the defense when the prosecution neglected to show us how the defendant was the only one who could have done what they said she did - when there were two distinctly possible people who could have done it. We all thought the defendant did it, but not showing us that she was the one who did it made us find in her favor.

If this is the case with what happened in OR, fuck man. Know your jury, for god’s sake. All this did was empower right wing nuts to more bad behavior.

IIRC, may be CAPITALIZED, possibly BOLDED CAPITALIZED classification in the page header or document header.

re: #157 lawhawk

So, which party will be celebrating the good news on the economy, and which one will be claiming that the numbers are all lies?

We know the answer - Trump and the GOP continues to claim this is the worst economy ever, worse than the Depression, and it’s Clinton and Obama’s fault. Reality is quite different of course

[Embedded content]

Yeah Trump’s going to go all in about how these numbers are fake.

Reading this collection of information on Russian hacking and disinformation, balloon-juice.com, and combining that with the FBI actions, and I’m really coming to the conclusion that white men in power everywhere are afraid of Clinton becoming president. Some of it is, obviously, that Putin knows he can control Trump, but the president of the US was supposed to be a white man’s club. It was bad enough that a black man became president - and was reelected - but they can’t let a woman in, can they?

Much of this is rehashed of what we already know, but interesting read.

Goes into some detail of the controversy. Bits that stuck out to me that noone discusses but is so painfully obvious:

Difference between Sec. Powell using a personal email account and Sec. Clinton using a personal email account on a private server. It’s a distinction without a difference.

If Sec. Clinton used a private server to avoid FOIA requests that makes little sense. She could have used the State Dept server for day to day and used personal email for items she didn’t want FOIAable.

Lots more great info in this Voxsplainer:

I remember being nervous about the final jobs report before the election in 2012. IIRC, it also had good-but-not-great numbers. I breathed another sigh of relief this morning, but I don’t think it matters much at all.

173
lawhawk  Nov 4, 2016 • 6:16:17am

All the GOP and Trump talking points are under assault by reality, which is why they go alt-reality and claim the numbers are a lie and don’t reflect reality.

This is the state of the GOP - clinging bitterly to the hate, fear, and irrational BS they’ve spewed for years and having to lie to themselves and their supporters to keep the support in line.

Solid job growth. Solid unemployment figures. Solid wage growth.

The GOP spins this as worst economy ever. That’s what Democrats are up against. And the media is complicit in not calling Trump and his surrogates out for their incessant lies during their coverage.

All it takes is something along the lines of the following:

Donald Trump again reiterated today that the economy “… remains the worst ever and unemployment rates are off the charts bad, especially for the blacks”.

However, according to the BLS, unemployment rates for blacks has been cut by more than half and is now lower than before the great recession. Wage growth and unemployment rates (both the official rate and the U6 rates) show that the economy continues to grow at a strong and steady clip.

A last set of numbers is not going to shift votes at this point. To the extent it shows the real state of the economy and its effect on families (a rough draft of the ‘Misery Index’), it’s good news.

I am really getting pissed at the news stations for continuing to identify the woman and show her photograph when she is almost certainly a sexual assault/rape survivor.

Unfortunately, this has been a story for a while, but for a different reason. She and her boyfriend had disappeared at the end of August, then her boyfriend’s Facebook came alive and all sorts of postings made to it that were out of character for him. I heard about this case at the Washington Post in mid-October, can’t find the article, but this one from the Daily Beast is contemporaneous:

Someone Is Pretending to Be This Missing Couple on Facebook

thedailybeast.com

So, yes, you’re right, but this is an unusual circumstance. What saddens me is that her boyfriend is probably dead. Ms. Brown told police there were at least four bodies buried at the site.

But when we got to go to the big city for a game with either scouts or church, it was always to the old Comiskey field on the south side. Damn, that was grim. I didn’t make it to Wrigley until the early ’80s. Sure, they lost every game I saw, but as I recall a large Old Style cost about as much as a bleacher-seat ticket. Great times. re: #183 lawhawk

this drudge, plus the emails, plus the jobs report all point to what i said earlier this morning:

it’s politics as religion.

Most people don’t “know” much. They heard or were told or read a web site, heard part of a speech or other questionable source… (wiccan, really???)

And so it’s all second or more hands, skewed, interpreted, and selectively etc. They do not research or do critical thinking or analysis. Just second hand say-so.

It all becomes a meaningless cult like following.

Because the evaluative thinking process is the problem, not just the gullible-ness Due to the fundamental lack of desire to learn and know. There is no cure for this.

The polarization now in 2016 is just one particular manifestation.

This is more than wilful ignorance. It’s wilfully being led by the nose manipulation or simply tell me what to think and I will.

I had some nitwit the other day claiming that Obamacare was the reason that the jobless rate was climbing all while ignoring actual demographics, which show that the trend was anticipated due to baby boomers leaving the workforce as we near the peak of the boomer cohort. The rate will continue dropping as more boomers enter retirement and live longer.

It had nothing to do with the ACA (unless you think that the ACA enables people to live longer, in which case the argument becomes that the GOP needs these people to sod off so that the numbers look more favorable). /half-sarc

I’ve avoided voicing support for Hillary in most aspects of my life because I simply don’t want the drama. I don’t have a yard sign. I don’t have a bumper sticker (I loathe bumper stickers for any reason, but that’s beside the point, I guess). I don’t argue with people on social media very much. I avoid politics with family that I have disagreements with.

My only political discussion outlets are LGF, updating my wife on the recent news (which she quickly gets bored of), chatting with my brother, and a few trusted co-workers that I know well.

I guess I’m a “stealth” Hillary supporter.

I avoid politics with family that I have disagreements with.

My only political discussion outlets are LGF, updating my wife on the recent news (which she quickly gets bored of), chatting with my brother, and a few trusted co-workers that I know well.

I guess I’m a “stealth” Hillary supporter.

This describes me, too. (Though we had a Bernie bumper sticker in our home window for awhile because the wife was working on his campaign.)

/half-sarc

they’re not deep thinkers
they latch onto an idea they “heard” somewhere, accept it and run with it.
they then commit to endless pretzel logic defending it because it *has to* be true
and if it has to be true, then if follows that only the argument isnt strong enough (yet)

This sounds reasonable to me:

538 always went back to 6 points before it would start designedly rubberbanding back to the center.

I can’t help remembering last time the averages were over 3 points pessimistic, too—plus “already voteds” being filtered out of the current polls. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hillary wins by 10. I’ll take any victory, but I really want to bathe in the tears of the deplorables.

Numbers released by the state Division of Elections Friday show the number of voters casting ballots early during this year’s presidential election is higher than in 2012. That year nearly 4.8 million Floridians either voted by mail or cast a ballot during early voting…”

After aggregating polls to get rid of variation that does not reflect real changes in opinion, the end result is that the national margin between Clinton and Trump has stayed within a five-point range, from Clinton ahead by two to seven points. That’s about the smallest range that has ever been measured. I see it as a testament to the inflexibility of voters.

Well, today is off to a flying start.

I got a call from one of my biggest clients, one of the big trade unions in NYC. It seems he’d been ignoring emails from his hosting company, not knowing that the emails were notifying him of an unpaid hosting balance.

This morning he went to the site and it was gone. The hosting company deleted the entire site.

Lucky for me it was a Wordpress install and I’ve got a pretty recent database backup. So they’re going to re-up with the hosting company, and my big job is getting them back online ASAP. Fortuitous for me, because I get to bill them for bringing them back - plus they want a redesign, which I can tack on to the bill.

Yay for extra Christmas money!

But I’ll wait for the non-answer. And the inevitable trolls.

Because the number includes those still in school and those who are retired - roughly half that figure.

politifact.com

It also counts those who are living at home - non-working spouses maintaining households, or caring for family, etc.

So, it’s a BS metric, that’s supposed to scare people, when the reality is anything but.

The largest cohort of “not in the workforce” are not retirees but 16-19 year olds, in other words KIDS WHO ARE IN SCHOOL. That this age group is not working full time is not a bad thing.

My reality seems so different than much of the narrative. Based on early voting, I’m pretty confident about FL and NV but apparently they are lost causes for Hillary. The voting numbers are up in a lot of places which is never a good sign for republicans. Less confident about NC, but hopeful.

MLive: Guys adopt stray dog and puppies that crash bachelor party

VICKSBURG, MI - Some fellows go to a bachelor party and come home with a hangover.

Friends of Mitchel Craddock, the bridegroom-to-be, each came home from his bash with a puppy.

Craddock took a puppy, too, and found a home for the litter’s mother with his grandparents.

It all started the morning of Craddock’s 5-day bachelor getaway, a four-wheeling trip to Tennessee arranged by the Best Man in Craddock’s Oct. 8 wedding.

The guys were cooking up bacon with the cabin door open, and a dirty, flea-bitten mutt appeared, politely parking herself in the doorway, but refusing their invitations to come inside.

The dog was obviously hungry and thirsty, wolfing down every offer of food and water but still remaining outside.

“She was very friendly but very skittish— I thought maybe she had been booted out of a house before,” Craddock said. She was so well behaved they felt sure she must belong to someone, but she remained at the cabin.

“We’d ride for 4-5 hours, or go into town, and every time we’d come back she would either be sitting on our doorstep or under one of our trucks,” Craddock said.

They named her Annie, after Little Orphan Annie.

It appeared that the dog had had puppies earlier, though her milk supply was dried up, but after the third day of food and water, Craddock said they noticed that she was producing milk. They also noticed that whenever a vehicle went down the road along the back of the cabin, near the woodline, she ran there, barking in alarm.

“We started connecting the dots,” Craddock said.

A little investigation and they discovered a deep, wide underground den, perhaps abandoned by another animal. In it were Annie’s seven puppies.

“We’re guessing they were maybe around 5 or 6 weeks old,” Craddock said, and although their mother was very malnourished, the pups were robust. “We were proud of her,” he said. “She gave everything she had to those puppies.”

“Once we got the puppies out of the hole, we knew we couldn’t just leave them, so we started figuring out where they would go,” he said.

The conclusion: “Thanks for coming to my bachelor party. Here’s a puppy,” Craddock said with a laugh.

Pics of puppies here.

For a moment today, one 538 model projected Florida as 50.0 Clinton, 50.0 Trump. It’s getting a bit better now.

Heh, the last time I looked at 538 was early August after the conventions.

No need to check them. Just log into LGF and you get a poll update within 10 to 20 comments…real time.

And another great feature here…I get any apprehension taken care of when I read the members stressing out over the numbers. It drains all my concerns. It’s like a sponge that sops up all the worry because inevitably someone else will be a calming influence too.

WLWT has learned at least one member of the jury in the Ray Tensing murder trial is refusing to come back to the courtroom after a break.

A sheriff’s department representative confirmed to managing editor Bill Hager that a juror is meeting with Judge Megan Shanahan in chambers. The juror is reportedly concerned over the release of personal information on jury questionnaires.

Shanahan announced at the beginning of court proceedings Friday morning that media outlets had requested the questionnaires be released. Shanahan said she was redacting names and other identifying information, but would release portions of the questionnaires.

Although Shanahan specifically mentioned a request by the Cincinnati Enquirer, several media outlets, including WLWT, have requested the information be released.

The representative of the sheriff’s department did not know how many jury members had concerns.

I’m only sorry I’m not there to laugh gleefully in their faces and taunt them. Now on to The Outlaw Jersey Whale himself!

I haven’t been following the trials but I did see where some had testified that Christie knew of the whole plan.

So, now that these verdicts have been handed down what is next? Do those accused get to plead down by turning to being witnesses against Trump and do the prosecutors take those deals and the testimony from the trials and then go after Christie?

Or, does the big boy governor get away now?

Turning the Chicago River blue

[Embedded content]

One year I was in Chicago for St. Patrick’s Day. People said, ‘Go look at the river! They turn it green!’ So I went and looked. Meh, it was a muddy green like the not-yet-blue parts in that photo. But they weren’t holding the parade until the next day because of Sunday or something. When I went back the next day, it was a bright, neon green, like the blue in the photo. Then I got to see more drunk people in public than ever, including a guy who got arrested for peeing in the street. A Chicago kind of St. Patrick’s Day.

So, Christie cronies Kelly and Baroni were found guilty on all charges.

Christie swears that he wasn’t involved and didn’t know what his underlings were doing, all while he and his underlings were telling anyone who’d listen that Christie was such a micromanager that everything had to run past him, but now that there were all these rogues who acted without Christie knowing, and that Christie was the last to know.

Reality is that this should terminate Christie’s career (it wont).

Reality is that Trump would need to address the convictions of Kelly and Baroni and their cozy relationship with Christie, and should terminate Christie’s service post-haste as his transition chair, but he wont.

Trump wont dump Christie. Not now or ever.

Christie reeks, but it’s the reek that we’re also seeing it from Rudy and his pals at the NY metro area FBI. Very cozy relationships with white guys who don’t want a woman as President, let alone Hillary Clinton. Why was the traditionally-unpopular conspiracy charge brought? You don’t charge 3 bank robbers with conspiracy when you catch them robbing a bank.

To “conspire” to commit a federal crime adds counts to an indictment.

Conspiracy charges give US prosecutors a lot of wiggle room in pre-trial and court proceedings.

IMHO, this jury was predisposed to not convict.

A unanimous vote is required in federal criminal trials in order for a jury to find defendant(s) guilty as charged in each count.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A federal judge on Friday said he will issue a restraining order against Donald Trump’s campaign and longtime adviser Roger Stone to avoid “harassing or intimidating conduct” at polling places on Nov. 8 Election Day.

U.S. District Judge James Gwin did not specify exactly what will or will not be allowed but said the order would likely be generic and prohibit both Democrats and Republicans from any harassment of people entering and leaving polling places.

snip

The Democrats filed a lawsuit Sunday against state Republicans, Trump’s campaign and longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone saying they fear that an aggressive presence from Trump supporters could discourage voters from the black community and other groups.

The judge said he will order the restraining order against Trump’s campaign and Stone, who did not have an attorney present. He did not order it against the Ohio Republican Party, saying there was not enough evidence to show that a restraining order against it was needed.

I believe it was more a scheduling problem. President Elect Obama arrived in DC about two weeks earlier than predecessors.

Q: Why did the Obamas stay at a hotel instead of Blair House?
A: The family wanted the daughters to start school in early January, much earlier in the month than recent presidents have taken up residence there. The Bush administration said the guest house was unavailable, and a former Australian prime minister stayed there Jan. 12.

IMHO, this jury was predisposed to not convict.

A unanimous vote is required in federal criminal trials in order for a jury to find defendant(s) guilty as charged in each count.

Well, that certainly worked.

Guess @PaulManafort is auditioning for the role of @karlrove in this year’s election. To win role, stomp off in tiff over OH!

I was actually thinking earlier it may be Mark Halperin auditioning for the role of Turd Blossom.

Finally accomplished my civic duty and did the voting thing after several false starts. First thing I noticed when arriving at the voting location was that one would never know this was a national presidential election. Of all the hundreds of signs for various downticket candidates there was only one sign I saw for either presidential candidate, a little “Latinos for Trump” sign buried amongst the rest. Very weird.

Today is the last day of early voting and there was a very long line. Took me a bit over an hour to get to the voting area. For comparison in past elections, this is the first time I have ever had to stand in line really at all, never more than 5-6 people ahead of me. Being Houston and a heavy minority area in general, the voters were a wide ethnic mix. Everyone was mellow and friendly and we got the sillies as we finally made it to the room to vote after winding around room to room and down the long hall, making a pact to scream in unison on the count of 3 if we were funneled into yet another room of winding line.

Didn’t get my reward margs for the effort but I feel terrific having voted a straight Dem ticket. (And I did stop and pick up a big Smirnoff Ice cuz hey, I deserve it.)

re: #380 Charles Johnson

If that shit is actionable, RF might be in trouble. Gloria Allred isn’t terribly shy about engaging in legal proceedings, after all.
