Today’s Right Wing Derp Hurricane: Hillary Is a Satanist!

And Sean Hannity goes for it
Wingnuts • Views: 42,921

Meathead: Mike Cernovich

Just when you thought the right wing had hit absolute rock bottom, they break through the other side of the Earth into an entirely new dimension of derp, accusing Hillary Clinton and John Podesta of Satanism. Yes, I said SATANISM. Booga booga!

What century is this, again?

This reeking garbage truck of political madness is all over the right wing blogs, but the most whacked out post I’ve seen comes from “men’s rights advocate” and rape apologist Mike Cernovich: Podesta Emails Reveal Clinton’s Inner Circle as Sex Cult with Connections to Human Trafficking.

(This goes to an archived version of his deranged post, because I won’t send any traffic to his ugly website.)

The Stupidest Man on the Internet Jim Hoft also jumped all over this story, of course: Wikileaks: Podesta Involved in “Spirit Cooking” Dinners and Cult Activity.

And so did Wikileaks, the source of the email that led to this frenzy of foolishness:

And then, the Stupidest Man on Fox News threw his derp hat in the ring:

If you really want to peek through the window of right wing derangement, check out this Twitter hashtag for the real bad crazy: #SpiritCooking.

This fake story is so ridiculous and idiotic we shouldn’t even have to debunk it, but here’s a good post by Richard Bartholomew if you want the straight dope on what it’s actually about:

So Drudge and now the Derp crowd are making a big deal about stocks going down for the past few weeks. They seem to think it’s because of Clinton. They can’t seem to understand that the market hates volatility and Trump is about as volatile as you can get — so the more it looks like he may win, the more the stock market is going to get nervous.

Imagine (horrors) if Trump did win what the stock market will do. I wonder how they’ll spin that crash.

Democrats: “We’re going to spend the next few days portraying the Republicans as unstable, untrustworthy, and crazy.”

Republicans: “WE HAVE AGENTS IN THE FBI LEAKING US INFO! HILLARY IS A SATANIST LESBIAN INVOLVED IN A GLOBAL CONSPIRACY!”

Advantage: Democrats

So, apparently the Daily Kos model should be taken seriously. A guy who did better than Silver in 2012, and 2014 is behind it. Name is Drew Linzer.

Right now, Daily Kos has a 91% Chance of Clinton winning, with the margin being 323-215.

Regardless, it brings up the whole idea of the electoral college being completely outdated by now. Even if the US never goes to a true popular vote, we don’t need physical bodies in the electoral “college”. It can all be done electronically, with the SoS for each state simply pushing a button.

More to the point, it nullifies the structural advantage the GOP has in the electoral college by its overrepresentation of small-population states (which tend to be rural and GOP).

That brings up the idea that Constitutional Amendments are darn near impossible to pass now.

It also brings up again the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement being ushered into law in several states. (Interstate compacts are constitutional). The law as written and proposed to various states says that when 270 electoral votes worth of states enter the compact, they will all instruct their electors to vote the same way (for the person who wins the popular vote).

This makes small states (such as Wyoming or Nebraska) just as important as large states (such as California or New York) if the compact comes into force. All votes then become equal, and the states that are marginalised are the ones which are not in the compact. (Becoming an incentive to join it.)

Campaigning would then be across all states rather than just a few swing states. It would also render the Electoral College moot, since compact members would vote as a bloc for the popular vote winner.

Small and large states, Republican and Democratic controlled have joined the Compact, with more states considering the legislation.

Some minor points:

1) The states that have passed this compact all appear to be blue states, some large and some small.

2) If the compact comes into effect, there would be no marginalization of the non-compact states.

3) Since the electoral college would remain as an institution, the faithless elector issue would remain, although it would become negligible in practice with a sufficiently large block of states in the compact. E.g., if the block were exactly 270 votes, a single faithless elector in the block could make a decisive difference, and that temptation would be acted on. If the block is 300+ EV, no problem.

Not so. The compact relates to the national popular vote, not to the total vote in all the compacting states.

In your example, 1 vote in the non-compact state of Ohio is just as valuable as 1 vote in any state that has accepted the compact.

There are arguments on both sides of the issue (both sides do it!)

In the Wikipedia article on it (Microsoft’s spellcheck neither likes the words “Wikipedia” nor “Firefox”) Republicans on both sides of the issue are cited: One notes it’s an “urban power grab” by liberals, another cited says it’s important for small marginalised rural states to have a voice in the election.

I have a special request for all the Religious / Spiritual Lizards. One of our divers was found unconscious today on the street. He’s in a coma, pupils non-reactive and minimal brain activity. I know that his GF and family would appreciate anything done for them in terms of prayers or energies. The guy has a lot of inner demons from multiple deployments and injuries suffered. I’m hoping for the best, but I’m pretty sure the best isn’t good at all.

Thanks

So, another block trigger…

The Bluehand movement was an online (specifically Twitter based) protest group formed in January 2014 by an anonymous user using the pseudonym James Bond. The purpose of the group was to protest against what they perceived as excessive political correctness and the islamification of the western world. They identified themselves by the use of Avatars featuring the Bluehand logo and tweets using the #Bluehand and #BluehandFamily hashtags.
Expansion
As the group grew and added members the posts and viewpoints became focused more specifically on their protests against Muslims.
This, along with anti-semitic material and threatening messages, led to several high profile members being suspended from Twitter for breaking Terms of Service.
Takeover
This change to a targeted attack on minority groups attracted the attention of Antifascist organisations, as well as the Anti-Islamophobia charity Tell Mama UK.
In July 2016 members of these groups decided to silence the Bluehand group, by hijacking the use of the #Bluehand tag to promote peace, love and equality. Calling themselves NewBluehand this group post messages of support and tolerance. They have been publicly endorsed by Tell Mama UK for the work they do in promoting equality and opposing discrimination.

re: #34 Anymouse

Not sure it really benefits small states. Los Angeles county has 10 million people, that’s basically North Carolina. A purely popular vote would see the vast majority of resources committed to major population centers because not only are more people there, but the marginal cost of individual votes would be lower.

I’m rather indifferent about the electoral college as it exists. It’s a less than ideal system, but like most the rest of our constitution it is the result of a compromise. I’m not sure we’d get a better result today if we started over.

I suppose you could make all sorts of arguments in favour or opposed; I don’t know it would be better or worse, just an interesting idea.

I would also note for the cost of a TV ad in Los Angeles, you can advertise here in ND, SD, NE, and WY, getting about the same population for less money.

As for the Constitution itself, it changes nothing about the Constitution: electoral votes are determined by state legislatures (that would not change). Interstate compacts are already protected by the Constitution.

A conservative alternative to how the Electoral College works is to repeal the amendment that puts senators in the hands of popular votes. (That ain’t going nowhere, but they float the idea occasionally.)

Rawstory: Trump Child Rape Accuser Dismisses Lawsuit, Cites “Living in Fear”

A woman who accused Republican nominee Donald Trump of raping her when she was 13 years old has officially dismissed her own lawsuit, Jezebel reports.

The accuser, who has used the pseudonym’s “Jane Doe” and “Katie Johnson” claimed that Trump raped her in 1994. She first filed a lawsuit against the real estate mogul in California last year, and re-filed it in New York in June.

Doe was scheduled to come forward on November 2 at a press conference with attorney Lisa Bloom but cancelled the event abruptly, citing that “she’s too afraid to show her face,” and is “living in fear.”

A friend on FB posted this story from the WSJ: National Enquirer Shielded Donald Trump From Playboy Model’s Affair Allegation

The company that owns the National Enquirer, a backer of Donald Trump, agreed to pay $150,000 to a former Playboy centerfold model for her story of an affair a decade ago with the Republican presidential nominee, but then didn’t publish it, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the matter.

The tabloid-newspaper publisher reached an agreement in early August with Karen McDougal, the 1998 Playmate of the Year. American Media Inc., which owns the Enquirer, hasn’t published anything about what she has told friends was a consensual romantic relationship she had with Mr. Trump in 2006. At the time, Mr. Trump was married to his current wife, Melania.

Quashing stories that way is known in the tabloid world as “catch and kill.”

Trump’s BFF at the Enquirer being, umm, helpful.

Looking at what is trending to be a HUGE uptick on the number of voters in Texas participating in the 2016 election, as well as polling during the last month that has shown Hillary Clinton within single digits (including a few polls that actually had her within the margin of error), I’m wondering if her campaign had decided to actively campaign here (ie campaign rallies, local advertisments) if she could have conceivably flipped Texas to the blue column. Dan Savage zeros in on Trump’s misogyny: ‘If gay was a choice’ — Trump would choose sex with men (Goes to Raw Story)

More at the link above, but this stands out from Mr. Savage to me:

“I’ve never really said this out loud before, so forgive me if I say this in an inarticulate way, but I’ve encountered over my life straight guys who hated women so much that you could almost sense that if gay was a choice, they would make it,” Savage said.

These misogynist men hate the power female sexuality holds over them, Savage said.

“They’re condemned to sit with both their hatred and disgust with women and their fear of women’s bodies and their insecurity and their need for them, their desire for them, because they are who they are sexually attracted to, and the cognitive dissonance that can produce — you see those guys who are much more comfortable in the company of men, but they need this thing,” Savage said. “They need this woman, and they need her as an object, they can’t see her as a human being, or see them as human beings.”

Savage said he’s known gay men who remind him of woman-hating Trump.

“Is Trump gay? I don’t think Trump is gay, but Trump would be a messy, misogynistic gay man if he were a gay man,” Savage said. “He might be happier, because then he wouldn’t have to interact with women at all, ever.”

re: #206 compound_Idaho

We can work this out.

Insurance premiums have always risen; the ACA is not the cause of this.

The cause is insurance companies that provide no benefit in health care, but skim profit between the provider and the patient.

Insurance companies are the literal death panels Sarah “I get my healthcare in socialised Yukon” Palin was talking about.

The solution is if insurance companies can’t be satisfied with the profit they already make, then the government enters into competition with single-payer healthcare. Both Libertarians and Conservatives are always on about competition with government to improve service. You know what? Right up until the time the government calls their bluff and says “OK.”

My wife fell when we were on vacation in Michigan and Canada this summer. Had to go to the emergency room in Michigan. X-rays, two docs, pharmacy, total bill $32 (thanks to Tricare).

If insurance companies cannot survive on the obscene profits they already make, they deserve the invisible hand of the government to smack them out of the business of deciding who lives and who dies based on who is rich enough to pay them.

Oh foo, you know that’s not even remotely possibly true.

Your insurance rates are going up because health care costs are going up and more people are being covered who need subsidies.

employer provided care think we can work this out.

The cost of health care has always been paid one way or another. You can pay more for widgets so that the maker of widgets get health care, or you can pay less for widgets and the makers of widgets either don’t get health care or use their incomes to buy healthcare instead of buying gadgets.

If they do the latter, the gadget makers go out of business and then the gadget makers can’t afford healthcare.

If only as a society we would accept that if our goal is to have members of our society all get the care that is required, our economy will non-trivially be committed to the project.

Amazingly, no. The owners simply gave it up.

(Three-letter callsigns can be moved from station to station by the same owner in a market, but they can’t be sold to anyone else, and the FCC isn’t granting new ones.)

Or CKLW, the Detroit station in Windsor that you could pick up from Pittsburgh to St. Louis.

It is best known for having been one of the most influential Top 40 stations in the world in the 1960s and 1970s. During this era, CKLW used a very tight Top 40 format known as Boss Radio, devised by radio programmer Bill Drake. However, CKLW never actually used the handle “boss” on the air, just the style. Rather than a “Boss 30”, CKLW’s weekly music survey was known as a “Big 30”. And instead of calling itself “Boss Radio”, CKLW called itself “The Big 8”. During this period it was the top-rated radio station not only in Windsor, but across the river in Detroit, and even in cities as far away as Toledo and Cleveland in Ohio.

In its current incarnation, CKLW is a news/talk radio station primarily serving listeners in Windsor and Essex County in Ontario, Canada, with a mix of local and syndicated programs, including some programs from the United States.

We had an early 60’s Galaxy 500 and the radio was quite impressive. I think back then the advantage of having a much quieter environment (RF wise) perhaps let us tune in stations with less noise.

I am not sure for what goals digital tuning today is designed. Radios rarely come with antennae designed for AM - old radios had large loops inside or polls outside.

Do your recent vehicles have a whip antenna or one embedded in the windshield? Reception is better with an old fashioned whip antenna, but designers have eliminated them for aesthetic and aerodynamic reasons. Plus, receiver manufacturers put all the tech on the FM/stereo side and probably give AM short-shrift, because cleaning up AM sound quality is almost pointless.

My car actually has a very good AM receiver (must be German engineering or something). The owner’s manual for my Smart car specifically notes they have a separate AM loop antenna built in to the bloody dashboard in addition to the whip antenna for the FM radio.

That means in the daytime I can pick up AM stations in Denver (two hundred miles away).

Looks like Trump has lost Nevada. If the same thing happens with Arizona, the entire West Coast and nearby states are lost. What does that mean? Only the empty states in the West will Trump carry. And in Alaska, it looks pretty close, with Hillary ahead. Now it’s too small a state and too far away for Hillary to deal with, but it looks like it’s on the same trend as the lower Western states, more migrants, possibly more immigrants.

What do you do if you are a party that in the Presidential race can only carry states with low population? Sure, you hold Senate seats and Gubernatorial races, but it’s hard to attract ambitious types if there isn’t a real way to go higher than Senate from time to time.
