The Truth About Reno: Trump Incited Mob to Attack a Protester, Then Falsely Accused Him of “Assassination Attempt”

Trump was not the victim - he was the instigator of a violent attack
Politics • Views: 39,967

Right wing blogs are all screaming this morning about the “assassination attempt” at yesterday’s Trump rally in Reno. Jim Hoft, the Stupidest Man on the Internet, is leading the charge as usual with post after post at his illiterate blog calling the man involved, Austyn Crites, an “attacker,” a “perpetrator” and “an attempted assassin,” and bellowing in capital letters that he “exposed” Crites as a Hillary supporter.

Hoft and his deranged followers are all pushing an outright lie. There was no assassination attempt.

There was some shocking violence at this rally, this much is true; but Crites was the victim, not the perpetrator. The crowd turned on him after Donald Trump pointed him out, accused him of being paid by Hillary Clinton, and said, “Take him out.” Here’s video of Trump inciting the mob:

“Ah, we have one of those guys from, from the Hillary Clinton campaign. How much are you being paid? $1500? All right, take him out.”

The truth is that the Secret Service responded to a mass beating of a protester, when someone screamed “gun” — even though there was no gun, just a sign. He didn’t rush the stage, and he did nothing to provoke this attack other than hold a protest sign that said “Republicans Against Trump.”

The Guardian interviewed Crites after he was attacked.

Crites, who said he was an inventor who works with high-altitude balloons, said the incident occurred after he walked toward the front of the stage to protest silently against Trump.

He confirmed witness descriptions of him moving through the crowd toward the front. However, he said he was not barging through but saying: “Can I please come through, can I please come through.”

When he was near the front of the crowd, he said he silently held aloft his sign. “I had a sign that said ‘Republicans against Trump.’ It is a sign that you can just print off online.”

Initially, there was the expected reaction of people around him booing, he said. “And then all of a sudden people next to me are starting to get violent; they’re grabbing at my arm, trying to rip the sign out of my hand,” he said.

He said he could not be sure but “it looked like” Trump was pointing at him, and may have been “instigating something”. Either way, the crowd piled on him, he said, kicking, punching, holding him on the ground and grabbing his testicles.

He said he was a wrestler in his youth and used his training to turn his head to the side to maintain an airway open as he was being choked by one man who had him in a headlock. “But there were people wrenching on my neck they could have strangled me to death,” he added.

Crites said when he was on the ground he heard someone yell “something about a gun” and he kept telling those on top of him that he had merely been holding a sign.

Crites was taken to the back of the auditorium (through a screaming mob of violent Trump supporters), searched, questioned briefly, then released.

For his part, Crites said he felt relieved when police arrived and placed him in handcuffs, but said officers had to fend off Trump supporters who continued to attack him. “As I was taken from the room, people are just looking at me like I’m a demon,” he said.

He said he was taken to the back of the auditorium, searched, subjected to a background check and then swiftly released.

Oh, and about Jim Hoft’s claim that he “exposed” Crites as a Hillary supporter? There’s nothing to “expose.” Crites isn’t trying to hide this.

Although he described himself as a Republican and fiscal conservative, Crites said he had canvassed “for a few hours” with the Clinton campaign in Nevada because he wanted to do all he could to prevent a Trump presidency

He said he was not fully supportive of Clinton but believed she was the only candidate who could stop Trump from reaching the White House.

Damn, there sure has been a lot of Trump ads from his campaign and from PAC running this weekend here in Ohio. I’m doing some work and have the Browns/Cowboys (I don’t want to hear it!) game on for noise while I resize some photos and I’ve already seen 3 or 4 ads.

This last one was really crappy, some not-close-to-Hillary looking actress with a bad blonde wig on bashing phones and computers and putting on rubber gloves and grabbing a bleach bottle with out-of-context Hillary voice overs saying things like “I did not lie” and “I gave them all my emails” and such. From a PAC called Future 45.

The Trump folks must have decided to save their money and run a barrage of ads the last five days of the campaign.

I can’t wait for Tuesday 7:00…all these commercials will be over!!!

Approximately 31,000 people voted early here in Rockwall county. According to stats I dug up, there are about 66,000 people 18 or older. So, nearly half of the eligible adult population in the county voted early.

While, in general, it bodes well for Democrats when people vote early, my blood red county shows that lots of people were taking advantage of it.

So this is what the Trump campaign is going with for the final pre-election ad push? Bad parodies and snarky cartoons? Most of the TV ads I’ve seen til now have been pretty anodyne; stock all-American “family” shots with the “bring-back-jobs, make-America-great” spiel: dumb, but inoffensive. Does the campaign really think going nasty down the stretch will change anybody’s opinion/vote? Especially as the “undecided” percentages seem notably low this year??

I’m wondering how Trump’s concession speech if when he loses will shake out? IF he even makes one. Glum, perfunctory concession, or violent rant-and-rave about a “rigged” election?
Or just a plug for his next, upcoming media/reality-TV project?

taco truck sighting!

[Embedded content]

We have a pretty strong Hispanic/Latino community here. Thankfully we have lots of taco trucks. I still remember when I first started to see them back about 15 or so years ago out on the west side of Columbus the first area to get a big community going. Now, they are all over town. Plenty up by the voting center on Morse Rd.

Like many a city, Columbus has food trucks galore these days. There is almost nothing you can’t find in a food truck locally. I’m working with a woman that has a community center she is trying to get rolling. On her property she has a Jamaican food truck that has just started to make that his location. It’s about three blocks from me…Imma have to get some jerk and curry chicken…he even has his own version of a gyro I hear.

I saw Doctor Strange. Very good movie, and once again, Marvel gets it right by including the right amount of humor.

LOVED the movie. They’ve brought both magic and the multiverse to the MCU and they did it in such a beautiful way. I thought Cumberbatch was really good — first as the arrogant asshole, then as the desperate man brought low and redeemed.

True story — this is the song that was playing when Strange got in his car accident:

These nutbags have been praying for the Apocalypse since the mid-90s. There was an article Amanda Marcotte wrote a few years ago that sums some of it up very well — if they’re the last generation on Earth, no one will ever get to say they were wrong, no one will ever get to contradict their own sense of self-importance, no one will ever survive past them to forget who they were.

Let any of these dirtbag evangelicals into the White House, and they’ll nuke the world at the first opportunity. They want the world to end, because if it doesn’t, all their efforts meant nothing, and no one will remember who they were anyway.

She has that too but Sergey is talking about her honesty. A lot of people think she’s a liar because they feel that way. That’s okay. Sometimes I feel as handsome as a Hollywood star and with a singing voice to match, that doesn’t mean it’s true.

Decades of right-wing propaganda seeping in by osmosis.

Expressing nuance is seen as not being straightforward, etc.

Plus random incidents like sniper fire story which is now quoted every time but which doesn’t fit a “tall tale told by a pathological liar” pattern but rather, I think, was a minor false memory episode.

Yes. Like Sherlock, Strange is a role that fits Cumberbatch. I don’t think anyone does smug arrogance better, and I also think he’s able to dial it back to contrite but proud properly.

And first of the two credit scenes is great.

People were heaping a lot of crap onto Cumberbatch’s Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, simply because the plot was a retread; I think he was a good Khan, different than Montalban’s, but still full of that arrogance and smug superiority that made Khan such a good (and worthy) Trek villain.

NY is equally well prepared. I know I can walk two blocks to my town hall on Tuesday at any time I please, whether it’s 6 AM or 8:30 PM, and I’ll have my ballot within a minute or two of when I walk in the door.

It boggles my mind that other jurisdictions make it so needlessly difficult for voters to exercise their rights.

Mine’s even easier than that.

My polling station is in my lobby. I can go down there in PJ’s and slippers. If the line is too long I go back upstairs for brekkies, or a shower, watch the previous night’s Colbert or Samantha Bee, and try again.
