Sunday Night Jam: Joe Bonamassa, “Hummingbird” Live at the Greek Theatre

Music • Views: 38,340

YouTube

Here’s a classic Leon Russell song, done to perfection by Joe Bonamassa and his monster band. I know I’ve been posting a lot of these Greek Theatre videos lately, but they’re just so good. Great sound, great playing, great camera work.

Warning: your face may melt at 4:25.

I’m stumped trying to think of a good metaphor because frankly the types Frum talks about are people the party courted in the 80’s too. I’m sorry but I’ve had it up to here with Republicans like him (though props ot him voting Clinton) trying to act like Trump just came out of nowhere and the GOP establishment bears no or little responsibility for his growth in their party.)

I’ll have to settle for a white undershirt that I wear to work, since I’ll spend at least the first six hours of Election Day working the graveyard. Upside is work ends just in time for the polls to open, so I can stop by on the way home, cast my vote, then go home to some much-needed sleep before the polls close at 7.

I was listening the local news this morning they had a couple correspondents on talking about the election and the topic of Hispanic voters came up.

One of them said that the Democrats had found the best way to target Hispanic voters was to target Hispanics in their late teens to late 20s with English-language ads, which they prefer, and encourage them to contact their family members and help them through the voter registration process, and getting them to early/absentee vote or vote on election day.

No, better than that, the FBI was saying within hours of the warrant being granted last Sunday that “We won’t be able to review all the emails before the election.” A week later, suddenly it’s “Oh yeah, nothing there, we’re good.”

Will certainly get your attention. My first earthquake, in San Francisco, was a 5.6. Scared me all to hell, as did the aftershocks. But I learned a lot about earthquakes in that town. Years later in New York City, my girlfriend and I were awakened when the brownstone started to rock a little, the windows and burglar gates to rattle. “What’s happening?” she asked. “Just a little earthquake, about 4.0 on the Richter, go back to sleep,” I told her. The next day the Times reported the event, which was of course a rare one in NYC, as a 4.0. I don’t think I ever had greater cred in our relationship than then and there.

The difference with the PEC map:

and this is how they justified both states

Of these last picks, Ohio and Arizona were the hardest. Polls have been close in both states.

Ohio does currently seem like a jump ball, but we lean toward Clinton winning there because of the strength of her get-out-the-vote operation.

In Arizona, we’re expecting that the surge in Latino votes that has been visible next door in Nevada will put Clinton over the top. Polls that show Trump winning may be underestimating the size of the Latino turnout.

i’m not saying they’re gonna be right. just that it’s interesting

Oh, and Ohio too… but I wonder about Ohio. Historically it was the source of Republican strength, and then in modern times became more available to Democrats. Traditionally the Republicans there wouldn’t really be Drumpfskind types, other than the coal-mining area in the SE. Yet I think there has been a bit of a political-party free for all in that state. It really is a mix of this and that, more so than most states. Industrial and rural, big city and small towns. Columbus is like Austin, TX - a progressive leaning region surrounded by religious conservatives.

But the mere fact that OH is a battleground state and not a secure Republican state itself ought to be a warning to Republicans. This was true in 2008 and 2012 too, and the RNC did their little “lessons” study.

But they didn’t take the lesson.

I don’t think I ever had greater cred in our relationship than then and there.

i remember an earthquake on long lsland in the 80’s. like 5am or so. wokwoke up me and my gf du jour.
with the opportunity of a lifetime looming like a grapefruit pitch i had to say “did the earth move for you too?”

And he’s only doing this crap tonight so tomorrow he can scream about how much stamina he has and how Hillary was sleeping while he was out with his fans.

Whoa. That should be felt in DFW. Haven’t checked FB in a couple of hours… Busy reading Battle Cry of Freedom and boggling over how we’re still fighting the same stupid war within ourselves.

Dallas was the first place I ever felt an earthquake, almost ten years ago. They’re still going on, though not as frequently as during the fracking boom. The last big one in DFW had an epicenter only a couple of miles from where I worked, northwest of the city.

Mostly they felt like heavy door slams, just a “kuwhump” that you felt more than heard, with a couple of creaks and wiggles from the furniture. The first two I felt back in ‘06-ish, I mistook for somebody running on the apartment building staircase, and a big truck passing outside.

Magnitude 5 is a whole different animal though.

As a motorcyclist in the Southeast, I have a relationship with Whataburger that transcends mere enjoyment of their food. Many times they have provided me with a vital dose of salt, calories, and protein at key moments in my travels.

(I believe riders have a special bond with beef.)

Five Guys is OK.

There are two styles of burger in my mind - the compact juicy calorie bomb, and the broad, bready sandwich style. For my money, In & Out makes the best cheap “bomb”, and Smashburger is the best at the expensive “bomb”. Five Guys and Mooyah (DFW local mini-chain) were about even as a middle-ground choice.

For the second type, Whataburger is the best cheap option. Best expensive sandwich-style burger is a tough call. I think Port of Call in New Orleans still does the Best Burger

With it looking like both Nv and NH going to Clinton, its really hard to see how Trump can get to 270. If the Hispanic vote in Florida produces a win for Clinton there, it starts becoming a big win, and if her GOTV efforts gives her wins in Ohio and/or NC, its a landslide. Az would be icing on the cake.

AZ has some interesting threads running thru the vote…

Trump
Arpaio
Legalized weed.

The AZ Dems have been registering Dem voters with Sheriff Joe being the main target… given the hispanic turnout in Florida and Nevada, Arizona could be poised to do the same. Plus, with many Mormons defecting from Trump, that, coupled with the hispanic turnout, plus with legalized marijuana also being on the ballot statewide, this could be a tipping point of sorts. According to my semi-daily span from various and sundry campaigns, last week Kirkpatrick was within the MOE based on the latest WaPo polling (down by 3).

I can’t say one way or the other but my votes are already banked for the Dems.

Obama lost AZ in 2008 and 2012 by nearly identical margins:

A bit over 200,000.

One would think that if there was a demographic surge it could have been more evident in changes between those two elections.

Now the gap in 2004 was much larger:

But I don’t know how much of that is due to how weak Kerry was as a candidate.

Note that the turnout in these three years:

2012: 74.36
2008: 77.69
2004: 77.10

… was higher than in many states.

Anyway, I guess the point I’m getting at is that there would have to be noticeable suppression of Republican turnout for Hillary to carry the state. Drumpfskind may be very unappealing to the Mormons, but AZ is full of old white folk and they are Drumpfskind’s constituency.

I agree that the odds of taking AZ are steep. The difference however is that Clinton is doing better among white voters than Obama did and Trump has both actively alienated and mobilized Latino voters. Not a lot of black people in Arizona, but it does have lots of women and the hispanic population there makes up a large percentage of the white population. I don’t think she’s going to win there but I can definitely see how she could without suppressing GOP turnout.

last polling I saw had Trump in 3rd in Utah.

So I really don’t want to minimize the Trump effect on the Mormon population, of which is a HUGE constituency in the east valley in suburban Phoenix, which has been in lock step with the GOP for decades. If that stranglehold is broken, it means that the state could be in play.

Plus the early voting trends are favoring Dems at this point. Plus the legalization of marijuana also tends to favor Dems.

I’m not saying that it isn’t an uphill climb, but taking the state, is possible, as is flipping some Congressional districts

For all the theatre of outlets like 538, asking people questions about what they will do in the future is not really a good predictor of the future. It may be a predictor, but not a good one. For any poll that someone may champion after the fact as “accurate”, you will be able to find many more which were quite off the mark.

Now the peddlers of polling sites may say they get around biases by conglomerating many polls, and thus they arrive at a Hillary victory.

But it could already be proposed that Hillary was the favorite to win even without polling, because the states that voted for Obama haven’t really changed in a fundamental nature to have them vote for Drumpfskind. No polls are needed to figure that out.

Each state has something equivalent to a Secretary of State’s office that have election information.

As for aggregators, CNN’s politics page I found the easiest to navigate during the primaries. The NYT also has an elections page that had lots of data.

If things go as I expect, the race will be called by major media shortly after 9PM here on the west coast, which is early morning for you.

Personally I’m not expecting a nail-biter. Once Clinton is shown as having won two out of the three state cluster of FL-NC-PA then it is all over.

If for some reason Clinton doesn’t win two of those 3 handily enough to be called earlier in the evening, you might have to wait up until NV is called.

I don’t know where Trump gets even a 12% chance. The Kerry map plus Virginia seems like a lock to me. That plus Nevada, which Clinton has apparently already won in the early voting, and it’s all over. Even failing that, she’s going to win Colorado. To counter The Atlantic and Brownstein, we give you the less erudite but much more on-point headline from Stuart Stevens at The Daily Beast:

The Flat-Earth Set Helped Donald Trump Hijack the GOP, and Crash it Into the Ground

His candidacy, aimed at an electorate that no longer exists, is a classic example of losing five bucks on every sale and trying to make it up in volume.

Stevens notes:

The last time Republicans could celebrate winning the White House on election night was 1988. In 2000 it took 31 days and in 2004, Ohio wasn’t called until the day after the election.

This is very similar to Brownstein’s point that if Hillary wins it will be historic in more than one way, namely, it will be the first time since real political parties (1828) that a single party has won 6 out of 7 popular votes.

Stevens also notes, I think correctly:

One of the original sins that has helped create the Trump campaign is the fantasy held by some conservatives that 2008 and 2012 should have been easy races for Republicans to win. It’s not difficult to understand where this view comes from: These people can’t fathom the appeal of a Barack Obama and assume the world thinks like they do. On one level, it’s typical tribalism, like an Auburn fan who can’t imagine rooting for Alabama. But on a deeper level it reflects the willful denial of reality that has helped Donald Trump and Breitbart take over the Republican Party.

I guess we will find out Tuesday night. To me it will come down to how many young people decide to actually vote. If millennials vote at the same percentage that they did for Obama then it will be an easy Hillary win.

The Beijing government — using the proxy of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee — has ruled that two rebellious Hong Kong legislators-elect may not retake the oath of office, essentially denying them seats on the HK Legislative Council (Legco).

The two participated in the Umbrella Movement, which had protested Beijing’s refusal to allow popular nomination and election of the HK executive last year. Elected to the Legco by popular vote earlier this year, Sixtus Baggio Leung Chung-hang and Yau Wai-ching, modified their oaths of office to say they supported independence for Hong Kong and to basically tell China to fuck off.

Since their oaths were not officially sanctioned, they were denied their seats. But the rest of Legco were willing to let them retake the oath of office. HK officials referred the matter to the Beijing government, which predictably said “no way — we can’t have troublemakers sitting on the HK council.”

The ruling is not going to sit well with people in Hong Kong, who enjoyed remarkable autonomy as a British territory until China got Hong Kong back in 1997.

> The National People’s Congress Standing Committee has clarified the definition and requirements of “swear in accordance with the law” in Article 104 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law - which covers members’ oaths - following the ongoing Legislative Council oath-taking controversy
> A spokesman for the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office said: “[Beijing] will absolutely neither permit anyone advocating secession in Hong Kong - nor allow any pro-independence activists - to enter a government institution.”

> Following Beijing’s decision, Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying said Hong Kong would enact Article 23, a controversial provision of the Basic Law relating to national security legislation.

> It remains unclear what legal consequences other lawmakers who advocate self-determination may face

As you can see from our Electoral vote graphs page, at no time during the entire year has Donald Trump led Hillary Clinton in the electoral college.

We don’t deal in probabilities here because that only makes sense when you can repeat the experiment. If a weather forecaster predicts an 80% chance of rain tomorrow, the forecaster can be rated by looking at the most recent 100 times that the prediction was 80% and see if it indeed rained on about 80 of them. With elections that doesn’t work, so we just stick to looking at the state polls. Based strictly on state polls, it looks like Clinton will win tomorrow.

Can’t tell you how hungry I got on that job because I hate Wendy’s burgers…and their fries. The chili is tolerable if you put about 10 pounds of cheese on it, but otherwise, ew.

I remember the first time my Dad and I went to Wendy’s. It was one of the original stores in Ohio. We pulled in opened the door. Dad said WOW! when he saw the burgers on the griddle. Both of us said we never had a good fast food burger like that. They were really into quality control.

Donald Trump’s campaign finally took away his Twitter account.

For much of this presidential campaign the notion of Donald Trump’s staff stealing his Android phone in order to prevent him from taking to Twitter and commenting on the latest news has been something of a running joke.

But in 2016 it seems we’re all fated to live long enough to see our favorite jokes become reality. So it was hardly surprising that the fascinating Sunday New York Times dispatch from the last days in the Trump bunker included this golden detail: “Aides to Mr. Trump have finally wrested away the Twitter account that he used to colorfully - and often counterproductively - savage his rivals,” a team of four Times reporters wrote Sunday. “But offline, Mr. Trump still privately muses about all the ways he will punish his enemies after Election Day, including a threat to fund a ‘super PAC’ with vengeance as its core mission.”

[…]

With all that we’ve learned about Drumpfskind, I wonder if indeed he may spend the rest of his life scheming about how to get even with those who he feels wronged him in the campaign.

With all that we’ve learned about Drumpfskind, I wonder if indeed he may spend the rest of his life scheming about how to get even with those who he feels wronged him in the campaign.

And that most likely includes the very people working on his campaign right now. After all, it will be their fault when he loses, not his. They let him down.

Such is the twisted mind of Donald Trump.

One issue: Anyone who left had to go to the very end of that two-hour-long line before getting back in. That included people who had to go to the bathroom (porta-potties).

One middle-aged woman sporting an orange “Guns SAVE Lives” sticker was particularly irate. She had waited in line for hours to get in, then she had waited inside for hours, and now she was about to lose her one shot at seeing Trump, all because of a draconian porta-potty rule.

“This is a disaster!” she yelled. “This is insane!”

A sympathetic friend placed a hand on her shoulder.

“You ok?” the friend queried.

She was not ok.

“I gotta pee!” she cried.

The pair disappeared shortly after that. Nature’s call turned inexorable.

john weaver (gop strategist) via cnn

I believe she’s going to win in an electoral landslide and be the most unpopular president in electoral history

a landslide *and* be the most unpopular
how does that even work?

the political baggage she has accumulated over the past year-and-a-half will dissuade congressional Republicans from working with her administration

Clinton’s weak standing will only encourage Republicans to ignore the difficult work of addressing the party’s underlying demographic problems and instead coalesce around opposition to Clinton.

see, that’s not “unpopular”. that’s partisan intransigence and obstructionism

she wins in a landslide, she’s popular
the people who opposed her and didnt vote for her, wont change their positions and wont work with her

Drumpfskind’s allies down under:

Senator and climate change denier Malcolm Roberts walks out on bizarre press conference

[…]

Malcolm Roberts used the presser at Parliament House to demand an independent inquiry over what he claims is a lack of empirical evidence linking climate change and human activity.

[…]

“The ultimate goal of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party is to dismantle Australia’s obsession with green guilt,” Senator Roberts said in a statement ahead of the press conference where he was flanked by prominent climate science critics Tony Heller (aka Steven Goddard) and Tim Ball.

[…]

The senator grew agitated when asked about his writings linking the Rothschild family with climate change — one of several conspiracy theories involving the wealthy Jewish family.

[…]

Another reporter asked the senator why he’d aired his theories in a podcast for the anti-Semitic “Jew World Order” website.

[…]

One Nation has policies to ban Muslim immigration, hold a royal commission into Islam and install CCTV in mosques.

[…]

Basically, the Australian One Nation party is the Drumpfskindian vision for the US Republican party.

Drain the Swamp the Trump nuts say.

Do they not get the irony of having Trump surrounded by a bunch of people who are up to their eyeballs in shady shenanigans, starting with Donald J Trump himself.

Besides the tax issues, you’ve got the scam school, the sex predator/assaults on women, and shady business dealings where he puts his personal profits ahead of everything and everyone else, especially American workers. Heck, he and his fellow travelers can’t be bothered to hire American trolls to do his twitter bidding - they’re offshored as well.

Beyond Trump and his kids, you’ve got Chris Christie, who’s fingerprints on Bridgegate are all over that scandal, and just desserts would bring an indictment after the election against him based on the testimony in the just concluded trial.

Then you’ve got Paul Manafort, whose ties to Russian and Ukrainian interests are questionable at best, and suggests that he was up to no good.

Then there’s Rudy, who until the past two weeks was best known as Mr. 9/11, but then decided to let everyone know that he and his contacts in the FBI knew - just knew - that Clinton was guilty and they had the emails and indictments to prove it. What that whole incident showed is that not only did Director Comey lose control over the FBI’s NY office, but Rudy may have engaged in illegal acts along with certain FBI members investigating the emails on Anthony Weiner’s computers, in violation of the law. So, if there’s additional criminality per emails, it’s Rudy and those officials who violated the law, not Clinton.

Meanwhile, Newt’s busy trying to do his best impression of a stooge who needs his failed 2012 campaign bills paid off (he still owes vendors millions from that failed effort), so he’s sticking around saying nonsensical ravings that Trump supporters think insightful.

Drain the swamp? How about dumping Paul Ryan, who’s such a solid upstanding character, that he’s voted for Trump but can’t say his name, even though Trump’s basically pushing the entire Ryan agenda as his own.

Drain the swamp? How about McConnell and the rest of the Senate GOP who have expressly stated they will not vote for Merrick Garland or any of Clinton’s Supreme Court appointees, in direct violation of the US Constitution’s advice and consent clause. Obstructionism and destructive politics is the GOP end-game here. The GOP has destroyed comity, and there must be consequences to this.

Drain the swamp.

Indeed - it starts by draining the Congress of it’s GOP obstructionists and most corrosive and corrupt elements.

It includes beating Trump badly enough that at 11:05 ET, just after the polls close on the West Coast, they can announce without any hesitation that the election is called for Clinton in a landslide. (wishful thinking I know).

Trump and his cabal of crooks deserves to lose bigly. That’s how you drain the swamp.

I realize that the ambulatory dungheap that is Donald Trump’s campaign gets most of the coverage, but the official Republican running mate seems (at least going by the news), MIA.

Still expecting that, at some point, fatigue or simple mortality will lower the baying.

I doubt the majority of those going to the polls tomorrow who are under the age of 40 know what the words “Rose Law Firm” or “Mena Airport” mean. They have no clue what “Travelgate” or “Filegate” were about, and think “Whitewater” is a type of rafting. To my generation the 90s might as well be another century, as most of us didn’t even really start paying attention to politics until 9/11 happened. When the media talks about the “millennial vote,” they’re not talking about those snot-nosed punks at Bernie rallies, they’re talking about people like me who have no real connection to all the “hate” that Americans supposedly feel for the Clintons.

I feel very confident that Hillary will take the election tomorrow, I may be paying off on my bet that she’d hit a 100 point or more electoral college victory, but I see victory on the horizon.

The second was that yesterday was a very relaxing day. Made some new friends, had 2 great dives, had a LOT of laughs. Here is a shot of where I was, you can’t help but be relaxed.

Mom charged after treating daughter’s seizures with marijuana butter: ‘It was my last resort’

[…]

At the time of her seizure, Madyson was withdrawing from a medication called Risperdal, which is used to treat schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder. Osborne says when she couldn’t calm her daughter down, she gave Madyson a smoothie with a tablespoon of marijuana-infused butter.

“Everything stopped 30 minutes later,” said Osborne.

A couple of hours later, Osborne took Madyson to the doctor. That’s where she tested positive for marijuana and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare was called. She was charged with misdemeanor injury to a child, and has pleaded not guilty.

“To me I felt like it was my last resort,” said Osborne, who maintains that she did the right thing. “I’ve seen it for my own eyes with people out of state who have used it and it’s helped them or their children.”

I’m of two minds regarding the vacancy. One part of me thinks Judge Garland deserves his hearing since he’s waited so long for it after the way the GOP treated him. Another part of me is more spiteful and wants Obama to withdraw his name and for Hillary especially if the Democrats control the Senate to choose someone with a more liberal reputation. Garland is a good judge and man but I think Obama and he both know that he was chosen with the Republican majority in the Senate in mind and I’d love for HRC to be like “Well you said let the American people decide the next president before the next judge pick, here I am and here’s my pick.” Or possibly, I wouldn’t complain if Garland became a firm member of the court’s liberal bloc rather than someone definitely left of Scalia and even Kennedy but not as liberal as Kagan and Sotomayor. It’s terrible the way the Republicans treated Judge Garland for something they know was a bullshit excuse. Louis Brandeis was appointed in an election year by a President who hadn’t even gotten 50% of the vote.

OH may be more gettable than the polls the past month have indicated. One poll from there over the weekend had her up by 1. Remember that campaigns (normal campaigns anyway) use internal polls, which can differ from and are usually considered more reliable than public polls. Yunno, I remember waking up next my sleeping girlfriend and asking myself, “Is this someone you will still want to be waking up with every day in 20 years?” and realized that if the answer is not a clear and resounding “Yes, of course!” then it is time to seriously re-think your relationship…

In that particular case, even in states with legalized mj use, administering it to a child will likely remain an offense.

The story seems to imply that the method worked, weird as it was. There are chemicals in cannabis that are probably useful for various treatments. But in that story the child was being weaned of off Risperdal, so who knows what it is in cannabis that may have helped.

Even if there is a medical reason? What is the purpose of medical marijuana if not for situations like this regardless of age?

Ads won’t replace a good ground game, or make up for a bad one.

The ad buys are the last ditch. They’ll spend themselves broke saturating the airwaves with ads that people will tune out once they’ve seen them 4 or 5 times.

I’m sure Trump has figured out some angle where he’s getting a piece of the money being spent, but other than that I don’t see a massive ad buy changing the election very mch at all..

It’s waking up Wednesday morning to hear the demographic breakdowns that show Hillary won largely through the votes of the groups that put Obama in the White House. It will mean that the “Obama Coalition” was not a fluke, it was not something they could write off as “racial bias” by saying that black voters showed up just because a black guy was on the ticket. It will mean that the future of the party is a very bleak one if they cannot address their massive disparity between the message they sell and the people they need to remain a viable national party.

One thing that I’m keeping in mind as we move into the last 24 hours is that the election seasons can be a cash cow for the media outlets (sort of like a Black Friday that comes every 4 years) and they are going to milk it for all they can. Anything that will drive clicks to them, that gets them eyes on the page or tuned-in to the channel is money in the their pockets.

You know that there there are lots of media managers out there that want to get little Bobby the G.I. Joe with the Kung-Fu Grip for Christmas and are going to get that bonus this year.

I’m going to trust in the fact the this isn’t the first rodeo for Hillary and the DNC. I think it will come down to a superior GOTV effort with them simply building on the kind of micro-data targeting that they have found so effective in the past.

Even if there is a medical reason? What is the purpose of medical marijuana if not for situations like this regardless of age?

The problem with medical marijuana is there is not a lot of research into the effectiveness of it as a treatment for most things since it is a schedule 1 drug. It is not regulated by the FDA so when you buy it you have no idea what dosage you are taking, and different cultivars have different mixes of cannabinoids.

There are people out there that claim cannabis can cure everything which puts it squarely in the woo category for me as far as medicine goes. Marijuana needs to be moved off of schedule 1 so it can be properly studied, the helpful components isolated so that they can be put into pills with a known dosage. Tested for effectiveness in double blind studies and approved by the FDA like every other medication.

Given that we’re talking about the GOP being involved, that is a 100% certainty. They didn’t learn anything from 2012, so they will take the wrong lessons this year when they lose. Nation Admits It Probably Going To Come Out Of This Having Learned Completely Wrong Lessons

Given that we’re talking about the GOP being involved, that is a 100% certainty. They didn’t learn anything from 2012, so they will take the wrong lessons this year when they lose. They will find someone more extreme and bigoted than Trump in 2020, and if they somehow manage to retain control in Congress, they will figure that their only way to retain power is to be even more extreme.

They have their heads so far up their 4th point of contact that they are going to need one of these to find their way back out.

It’s a combination of misogyny, weapons grade hate on Clinton, and the insatiable need to push fear and hate to its extremes.

Economic anxiety? The angry white guys who are the core of Trump support aren’t economically disadvantaged.

But Trump makes them think that everyone is taking advantage of them because rights now extend to others in the same manner. It’s a GOP standard of course, but reality is that this group has long benefited from privileges they take for granted, while everyone else has had to fight for the right (to vote, to get married, to be recognized for civil rights protections, etc.)

And the GOP and Trump stand opposed to it all - which is why they’re the ones fighting to restrict access to the polls, have fought to reduce the number of polling places, and who think that the right to vote should be curtailed.

That’s not Democrats leading the charge. That’s the GOP.

Indeed, if there is one thing I have gotten more tired of in recent weeks, it’s the argument that the people who support Trump are being motivated by “anxiety” or “concern” and we need to understand that they’re not bad people. Sure, they’re motivated by anxiety, their anxiety stems largely from the realization that time and demographics are against them. That the efforts of them and their fathers to keep “those people” as segregated from “polite society” as possible are breaking down. They see a future where their kids and grandkids are the minority in the classroom, where being white means nothing in a job interview, where even the “good” neighborhoods are multiracial, and it scares the ever-loving shit out of them. They’ve been raised for decades in a rich stew of racial superiority and fear that the day that superiority ceased to be that their gooses were cooked and they’re scared as white as the sheets their daddies used to wear.

At this point, if you’re a Trump supporter, you’re either wearing the sheets or you’re cheering on the guys who are. There’s no third option.

In a vacuum. NC is among the states that curtailed their early voting by reducing the number of polling places to make it more difficult for African Americans to vote. This happened in TX and NC, among other states.

In FL, AA turnout is up from 2012, but the number of Hispanics turning out is significantly higher, so the percentage of AA in the early vote mix is down.

Keep calm, and don’t fret over the polls. The only one that counts will soon be tallied.

re: #282 Joe Bacon

I remember the first time my Dad and I went to Wendy’s. It was one of the original stores in Ohio. We pulled in opened the door. Dad said WOW! when he saw the burgers on the griddle. Both of us said we never had a good fast food burger like that. They were really into quality control.

Hey all! Way behind in this thread but I had to comment on this…

When I first came to Columbus I resided right downtown in the funky old apartments that the art college made into the dorms for the freshman students. We were about four blocks from the very original Wendy’s on Broad Street. So naturally we went there a lot. They were great burgers…and if I remember right, we could get a double for like .99 cents. Yeah, we pigged out! A double, fries, frosty and a Coke…maybe $2.50.

I have the Republicans’ 2012 Autopsy open for an occasional laugh.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. Communicating, organizing, and winning the women’s vote should be part of all activities that the RNC undertakes. Women are not a “coalition.” They represent more than half the voting population in the country, and our inability to win their votes is losing us elections. While the Co-Chair of the RNC should continue, as has been the case, to lead the effort to create and implement programs to connect with female voters and help female candidates, this effort should not be restricted to the Co-Chair’s office. It should be a mandate for all relevant departments in the building.

Meh. I’m glad she’s voting for Clinton to oppose Trump, but:

No, she shouldn’t have set up a private server, which could have compromised national security. No, she shouldn’t have given paid speeches to Wall Street. No, her closest aide, Huma Abedin, should not have had an ethically questionable arrangement that allowed her to simultaneously work for four different Clinton-related entities, including the Department of State. No, the Clinton Foundation should not have accepted donations from countries which abuse human rights and discriminate against gays and women.

The server was never an issue until Clinton ran. Giving speeches was never an issue until she ran. Helping children in other countries was never an issue until Clinton ran.

One of the things that Navarro mentions is that everybody figured she was going to run. So, yes, those weren’t issues until she ran, but we knew she was going to run and so they were going to be issues. It’s one of the stranger things about the Clintons, in my mind, they know they’re going to be under a microscope (they have been since 1992), yet they have a tendency to dance in, or at least near, the grey areas. Is a lot of it bullshit? Yes, of course. But they do seem to leave the barn door open quite a bit.

if it wasnt those things it woulda been something else.
there was going to be some thing.

and to think she should have had to be that careful and clairvoyant to predict what specifically that thing would be in the future, thats one hell of a bar.

considering the other guy just has to show up, breathe, and not trip and fall and its a win.

That’s true. Glad to see that 9 states have it on the ballot this time. Wonder how many of them it will pass in.

Heard someone early this morning on MSNBC say if California votes in favor of marijuana use it could be the tipping point for all of America to allow personal use. It will be interesting to see how many of the nine vote for it. If all nine go legalization it will be hard to keep other states criminalized.

re: #425 HappyWarrior

Being reasonably confident in 278 ain’t bad. Honestly I feel pretty good. The only Obama state I don’t feel too bullish on is Iowa. I was feeling that way about Ohio too but then I saw the early vote turnout photos and I feel that it’s winnable though I think it will be by a tight margin- this is where her ground game will be vital.

Columbus Dispatch poll shifted to Hillary +1, 48% to 47. Still close, but it is a change from being down 3.
