Is This the Dumbest “Rigged Voting Machine” Video Ever?

Right wing journalism at its finest

DERP

As they do every Election Day, right wing blogs are totally losing their shit over imaginary voter fraud and “rigged voting machines.” It’s a weird ritual they engage in every couple of years, without fail, and nothing ever comes of it because it’s all bullshit and they actually know it while they’re doing it.

And here’s one of the funniest and most ridiculous examples I’ve seen so far today, posted on Twitter earlier, showing an anonymous guy in a voting booth stabbing ineffectually at a voting machine with his index finger, pretending it’s refusing to let him vote for Donald Trump.

This is an amazingly stupid and obvious fraud, because if you actually look at what he’s doing you’ll notice he’s pressing everywhere but on the NUMBERED BUTTON that actually registers a vote, in the lower right corner of the section.

Also notice that the video starts with the red light for Hillary Clinton already selected — so this guy clearly pressed that button before turning on his cell phone camera to make this fraudulent video.

But don’t take my word for it. Here’s a (pretty silly) video made by the state government of Pennsylvania, clearly showing how the voting machines work, explaining that you have to press the numbered button and if you have a candidate already selected you have to turn that one off before you can choose a different one.

Iframe

And guess who jumped all over this obviously fake story? If you guessed the Stupidest Man on the Internet, you win! VIDEO=> Pennsylvania Trump Voter Can’t Get Voting Machine to Accept His Vote.

I remember Shaun King back in April, refusing to understand that the voting machine works better when it’s plugged in.

The wingnuts are highly motivated to find an excuse for Trump’s impending loss that does not mean that America rejects bigotry. They want to believe that most people are toxic like them, and a whole industry exists to feed them their own bullshit.

The LA Times has a very brief write up about the generational split among Vietnamese Americans in Orange County. Basically, the older voters are going for Trump and the younger voters are going to Clinton. I suspect this is going to be similar to what we see in Cuban American voters in Florida.

New thread needs a new photo. Going slightly different for this one.

Ishinomaki

The Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami was over 4 years ago but the effects are still widely felt in the affected areas. Ishinomaki is doing better than a lot of the towns when it comes to rebuilding, but you can go and walk the streets and realize exactly what that means. They have a small museum and community information center dedicated to introducing the town as it was before the tsunami and explaining what they’re doing to rebuild. One of the worst hit areas was pretty much swept clean away and rebuilding there is prohibited; they’re going to turn it into a park and memorial. We walked along the river banks and past one of the temples and graveyards - it’s amazing to see the damage that was done to the family tombstones - before climbing the stairs to the shrine where many people watched their town disappear.

I didn’t take photos of a lot, because I wanted to be respectful and not simply gawking, but I couldn’t resist the signs of life among the foundations left behind.

Among those killed there was a young woman named Taylor Anderson who loved Japanese culture from Richmond, VA who had just graduated from Randolph-Macon College. I don’t mean to minimize the massive loss of Japanese life by mentioning the sole American, but I met her some of her friends and mentors at the time she went missing and can tell you that her loss was deeply felt, too.

One thing I noticed on my visit to Nagasaki some years ago was that there were no old trees in the city. Logical when you think about it, but…

I visited Sendai in 2011 a couple of months after the tsunami wiped out the harbour front and killed a bunch of people. The earthquake had caused visible damage to a lot of buildings near the city centre but nothing structural, it was a question of broken window frames and cladding fallen away from the walls. I visited Sendai again a couple of years later (with my JR Pass allowing me to ride the 320km/hr E6 Hayabusa shinkansen) and it was business as usual.

It was a very moving experience, just to be walking around on the streets and knowing what happened not all that long ago. We did Hiroshima on this trip too, and that was moving in a different way - more about facing the evil things humanity can do to each other. This was about nature’s indifference to individual lives.

We did feel a small earthquake while we were staying in Sendai - a 4.9 aftershock, probably, given where it was. Pretty far out, so just a slight rumble for maybe 10 seconds and it was gone. Nobody even mentioned it.

Thanks. I was part of a rag-tag running club in the late 1980s that included truck drivers, farmers, company employees, and owners of small businesses based in a town maybe a hundred miles north of Sendai. We ran all kinds of races in the Tohoku area. Surprisingly, there were 5k and 10k races in the fishing towns all up and down the coast (and so I watched in horror as they were destroyed on 3.11). I ran an ekiden relay race in and around Miyako, another hard hit city in Iwate. I visited Ishinomaki as part of another non-running related trip. (I was the first non-Japanese to run in the Iwate-Nippo Ichinoseki-Morioka Ekiden; we came in second to last and maybe because I ran the final leg not third to last.) Lots of memories and connections.

We had to take the shinkansen all the way up to Hakodate, now that it’s extended that far. It wasn’t on our last trip.

I went through the Seikan tunnel to Hakodate on the original narrow-gauge line before it was reworked to carry shinkansen trains. A couple of American railfans I know visited the station in the tunnel that was only open once a week for special excursions; now that the tunnel is part of the shinkansen network that stop isn’t active any more. The only thing you could do at the stop is climb the staircase up to the surface, several hundred steps and no elevator. After you did that you then went back down to the platform and caught the next train.

I think the shinkansen line is going on up to Sapporo but I don’t know when it will be finished.

It’s a ways off, yet. mr. klys has been to that station, I think - there was a museum as part of it that he’s done. Like you said, can’t really get into it now.

We rode the Cassiopeia last trip, knowing that with the shinkansen coming, it was likely going to disappear. Really enjoyed that. (I am a rail fan in that I like riding trains. I don’t necessarily care at all about the specifics. Trains are great for cross stitch.)

We are firmly in the “northern Japan for the win” camp. We did Kyoto and Hiroshima this time around because I hadn’t and it was my third time over, and then headed north for the second week. And hit the onsen. Sukayu, Kuroyu, and visited Tsuru-no-yu, Tae-no-yu, Oogama (Oogawa?), and Maguroku. In one day. Even mr. klys was a little done by the time we finished that.

If Trump insiders are busy saying if only Trump had been more disciplined or responded to the grab-em video or the Khan family, etc., with more class/dignity/empathy, which ignores that Trump has no class, dignity, or empathy. These people all but admit that Trump’s toast.

Sadly, there’s far too many people who will vote Trump reflexively, even though he has no one’s interests in mind except his own.

Lot of folks really think that the problem is the Dems obstructing Bevin’s magic beans from growing. And Bevin has spent a lot of time and energy concocting Breitbart-y “revelations” of how crap the Dems are. Like the time he went to the wrong building, filmed it empty, and used it as a demonstration that the House Dems were lazy (while they were at work in another location).

Also, the religious nuts are really percolating recently. Lots of “return our culture to what it was” rhetoric. Including the utter dick running for state rep in my neck of the woods.

I mean, there’s people that really have bought in to the wingnut derp, but there’s also a bunch of folks who have gotten duped. All kinds of fucked up.

When I went to the polling station, when the worker checked my name on the list, nearly everybody else showed as mail-ballot.

Can Evan Bayh go away for good now?

The Indiana Democrat’s Republican?

Trump’s campaign HQ is subdued and somber - where they’ve got a cash bar that’s more expensive than the beer/liquor at Yankee Stadium (that could explain quite a bit), and it’s a smallish affair.

Clinton’s campaign party at the Javits Center? It’s a rockin’ party with a whole boatload of people inside and out of the Center. We’re talking a big turnout for history.

Just sayin’.

re: #345 Barefoot Grin

I was working in Lexington, wanted to stay in Lexington, loved that area, but it was a two-year gig. I had lost a job bid in Murray (and now sigh a breath of relief) and in Berea (wanted that job, but a tough area). But the truth is, I really loved Kentucky. I hope Kentuckians get some good governance in the near future.

If they want good governance, they have to vote for it.

Mail in and early voting would significantly expand the voting opportunities in NY.

No doubt they wont make those changes for another century.

Expect at least one David Brooks column on the subject of how the country is poorer for the loss of principled Democrats like Even Bayh.

It pulls the lever for the Dem, or else it gets the hose again.

It only appears that way in FL because many of the Miami-Dade and Broward county districts have yet to report.

MSNBC is showing 90% in and it is close…close…close!!! Hillary still up by a bit.

I sure hope the big city counties are the last to report.

Kentuckians are going to learn the very hard way that this extreme conservative dystopia is going to kill them. Literally.
Those coal miners? They honestly believe the mines are gonna open again. It ain’t gonna happen. And the retired miners can kiss away any chance of seeing their promised pensions and black lung benefits. They have been lied to over and over again and STILL believe it’s the Democrats that did all those bad things to them.

Lasting impression: the great crowd of smokers even on cold and rainy days in front of the University of Kentucky Hospital (UK Healthcare Center); and when I was doing community cleanup picking up hundreds of cigarette butts only to have drivers actually throw their butts at me in Lexington. But I also met some of the best people I have known there.

Not likely. We have finally become a GOP state like the rest of the South did 20 years ago, and that isn’t going to change.

I shut MSNBC off an hour ago when it was Tweety and Rudy yelling at each other.

I got a kick out of that because Tweety was calling him out like very few media heads do these days. Tweety can be so up and down and very infuriating all the time.

Dibs on calling Evan Bayh’s losing result months, nay seasons ago.

Still sucks, though: self-serving corporatist schmuck as Evan Baugh might be, he still stuck with the Democrats for the most part. And would still be an improvement over ant Republican.

Anecdote time: Evan Bayh is the only US Senator I’ve ever actually met: many years ago, I had sublet an apartment from him in NY: he showed up to “inspect” the place one New Years Day, when my then-girlfriend (now Mrs. Jay) and I were not - to say the least - in a mood for company..

OK: looks like Bayh gets the hook…. bummer

The old joke was that when the end of the world comes, Kentucky would be OK because we’re 20 years behind everyone else.
We can now change that to, at the very least, 60 years behind everyone else.
Maybe 150 years behind…

She’s projected to win San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Austin. She’ll win the border counties. When rural starts coming in she’ll lose the lead. But this 5th generation Texas Liberal is enjoying herself tremendously tonight.
