A million of those counted TX votes are from just Harris county. The rest of Texas is still mostly not reported.

If TX turns blue, the race is over.
If TX turns blue, the GOP as we know it is over.
NBC is reporting that the House will remain in GOP control. Not particularly surprising, since that would have been a huge swing. The question is the margin.

The biggest batch of precincts not reporting from Florida is from Broward (48% in). Clinton is polling 2-1 so far in the county, and if this holds for the rest of the county, she’ll pick up enough votes to put her over the top.
But it’s a real squeaker and will probably go to a mandatory re-count (sigh!).

Well, I’m feeling the retch coming up, too: as much as the MSM loves a nail-biter election, the possibility that Donald Trump might actually become President - and with a Republican or Republican-dominated Congress behind him is a truly terrifying prospect.
And I’ve seen a lot of elections go by since 1976: I haven’t liked the results in a lot of them, but I’ve never felt that the result might actually put the country in danger like I have this year. I didn’t like (or vote for) people like George Bush or Mitt Romney, but the prospect of their becoming President was merely disappointing - not terrifying.
Not just partisanality: a Trump Administration with a compliant Congress is a nightmare scenario.

In Virginia, Clinton is now down by just 5,000 votes with 14 percent of precincts still remaining. Clinton still has a good chance of winning the state.
From me = 514k reported votes so far, but county has 685k active voters and 747K registered voters. County vote is 60% for Clinton so far.

The GOP will get rid of the filibuster when the Senate comes into session and they will start running everything they can. Get rid of the entire last 8 years, get rid of medicare, medicaid and make social security a state block grant.
Oh, and start a shooting war with Iran and trade wars with the rest of the world.
Hopefully in that scenario, things will be such a clusterfuck that it kills the GOP for good.

Trump may well turn out to be the new Gandhi. In a Civ kinda way.
That involved the image of Gandhi shouting “Our Words Are Backed With NUCLEAR WEAPONS!” for those who don’t get the joke. In Civ V, an error made him absurdly willing to throw nukes around if/ when he developed them.

Shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn that a substantial majority of the people in this state are ignorant racist assholes.
But then again, lots of Americans probably feel that way about the whole country right now.
We seem to have a disturbing number of white nationalists in the US. Or at least people who are OK with white nationalists.

Actually an error going back to Civ 1. Basically the moment a country moves into the modern era, their hostility parameter goes down a notch. But Gandhi was written from the start of the game with a hostility of 0. So as soon as he hits the modern era, he goes -1 and comes back around to be the most hostile fucker on the map. Montezuma is known to say “Dude, take it down a notch.”

I’ve closed down the trackers. I can recognize when the stress isn’t doing good things for me.
That I’m mapping out the practical personal changes a Trump presidency would bring about terrifies me, but it’s at least something I can do.
What we’re seeing, very clearly, is that Drumpfskind has successfully garnered the poor white vote in rural America. He designed his campaign to appeal to them.
Resentment - that is why we are seeing on those maps.
Clinton probably won overwhelmingly in most counties where the average income is in the upper third of the national distribution.
Resentment is what drives people to watch Fox and listen to the hate-talkers on radio.

Good evening, everyone. Well, I wish it were a better night.
Anyway, the fear I’ve long had deep in the back of my mind if it ever came to that was Chile: Latin America’s most succesful, stable democracy, with a 17 year interlude of right-wing death squads, torture sites, and international terrorism.
But I think of Pinochet, and then Trump, and to compare the two is ludicrous. Pinochet was a smart, ruthless, determined military professional. Trump is a pathetic d-list celebrity buffoon. There is no way he could ever pull off the kind of right-wing dictatorship that Augusto did.
I hate that this is what I’m believing in right now to keep me sane, but there it is.

Yup. What I labeled “baked-in” hatred of the Clintons, particularly Hillary.
But we knew this back in the primary.
So many of the younger, and female, Hillary supporters probably never appreciated how despised Hillary is with a large fraction of the population.
Pollsters knew this - which they demonstrated easily with the negatives that showed up in the polling. Only Drumpf was least liked than her.
Hillary won the nomination because she was the choice of the Democratic machinery (this is not a Bernie conspiracy I’m peddling - rather it’s based on Hillary’s decision to move to NY to run for Senate, the one state she knew she could win.)
Hillary will win tonight because of the Democratic machinery too. The Obama states will put her into office. But many Americans will have voted against her because they detest her.

Do you have somewhere to go? Seriously? Do you? Because with all the blather I hear from Americans who claim they are going to leave and go to some other country, they have the audacity to think that all the countries one might want to move to would actually take them.
re: #484 MsJ
Honestly, it makes me sad to feel this way. And it’s gotten worse over the past eight years. Sadly, I’m less open now than I was when I was younger, when I went out of my way to not let my parent’s prejudices color my thinking. They grew up in North Florida. My mother used to have to walk home down this road where this truck full of racist white boys would yell things at her every day and frighten her to death. And my father experienced equally horrible things.
My niece and nephew are the sweetest, most open things at 10 and 11, who will openly challenge any one of us who slips into generalities about any race, which I’m extremely proud of. But tonight they were truly frightened when they caught a glimpse of the projections showing Hillary down. They’re really intelligent, and I realized that they *get* it. My nephew, sadly, asked me if it was because of white people, and that really depressed me. I told him things would be fine and sent him to bed. I hope to god they will be by the end of the night.
re: #542 nickzi
i think part of it is con-artists like Jill Stein taking votes from people who thought it was safe to parade their vacuous “principles”. And then there’s the sad fact that a lot of white men aren’t ready for a female president and hate Clinton with a passion.

This hurts my heart. Please know that this white woman’s two children 9 and 11 go to schools where they are in the minority (10%). One of my daughters had to go to the neighborhood school for the first week this year until we got a call for the magnet school where she switched. Well, if Fishy’s wrong, but civilization doesn’t get ended worldwide by nuclear war, then at least we can rest assured that the country won’t be allowed to elect another Trump.
Because he will get us into WWIII to support Russia’s ‘reinstatement’ of the Baltics to their empire, and US morale will be low enough suddenly being forced to be allies of people who are against everything non-white-supremacist Americans embody, that the EU and China will be able to beat the American-Russian alliance.
And I sincerely doubt they’d let us keep the political system that got us into a war of aggression.
When the books are written on this, we’ll record hat Clinton got punished for doing too much, and for being a woman. People keep talking about the hatred of Clinton, but the hatred is entirely based on vapor ware. We have found out that a huge portion of the public can be duped into thinking that if you attack someone enough, there must be something there.
And don’t forget the racism. We’re seeing even more whites shift to the Republicans. I continue to think that Republicans will become minority party, but it is going to take a while.

Consider that Clinton is trying to do something historically rare by winning a third consecutive White House term for the Democrats in the face of rabid dishonesty, a spineless media and rampant white male victimhood. Trump’s election will trigger Republicans’ backup plan to take control of the White House.
After some Trump scandal involving perjury or obstruction of justice gets orchestrated traction in the media (what better click bait?); the House, having practiced on President Bill Clinton, would initiate impeachment discussions.
Trump is given a choice.

A poll-sci class typed up full copies of the Constitution, took them out to the streets and had random people read them.

It caused one of those moment of frisson, where you feel like you’re suddenly half an inch from reality.
