Real Bad News Gets Worse: An Antisemitic White Nationalist Will Be President Trump’s “Chief Strategist”

The man responsible for one of the worst right hate sites on the web
Politics • Views: 58,227

The haunted house ride of this election just got even scarier. Donald Trump has appointed an unapologetic antisemite and white nationalist as his “chief strategist and senior counselor.”

Basically Bannon is going to be Trump’s media guy. More low key than being chief of staff but still in a position to have his bigoted bullshit poison a lot.

I just heard an interview with “race realist” (racist) Richard Spencer and his thoughts that the Trump election is a paradigm shift for his movement. Wonder what gave him that idea? The program is “Reveal”; I’m sure you can listen if you feel like vomiting. The interviewer asked him how his movement (he’s the one getting funding from William Regnery to build a “think tank” in DC) was different ultimately from the goals of the KKK and he was stumped for a moment to find any difference.

Am I the only one who remembers folks trying to hang Hugo Chavez around Obama’s neck like an albatross, constantly and repeatedly to leave the impression that they were comrades in arms and ideology?

Does anyone expect the media to actually latch on to the open admiration Trump has had for Le Pen, Wilders, Jobbik, etc?

I predict six months or less with Reince as chief of staff. I think it’s just to give his gang some sort of establishment credibility with the congress critters. They’ll have a falling out by April and Reince will be gone by June, replaced by a barking dog like Lewandowski or (dog forbid) Manafort) or perhaps one of the spawn.

Unless we all luck out and the meteor comes first.

Regretting will come when Trump signs the cuts to Medicare and Social Security. Right now it’s just going to be “We’ve been fooled. On to the next guy who will deport the Mexicans.”

I’ve got to figure out a polite way to call them idiots, and a good way to get them to admit they were wrong so that it doesn’t bruise their egos.

I’m generally pretty good at empathizing with people, but this may be tough.

The thing is, though, how would you keep them from just looking for the crazier guy who says the same stuff?

Listen, if a Trumper ever expresses regret to me I won’t be friendly with him. But we can’t afford to spit in their faces either. I don’t see how this nation survives otherwise.

I realize it may be a political necessity to be nice to Trump voters who realize they were conned, but as a non-politician I can be more direct. Fuck that noise.

Nobody could honestly believe the horseshit the Trump campaign put out. 1) The promises were impossible and 2) the man is a compulsive and habitual liar.

So to offset the grave sin of voting for Trump, the apologist can offer precisely nothing.

True, I’m thinking over this too conventionally. Anyhow, just heard the local news is saying Bannon’s title is going to include chief strategist. FML. And that asshole Newt has the nerve to claim that Trump’s connections to the alt-right are over played. Maybe him and Bannon will meet when Turmp inevitably gives Newt a job. Here’s something to lighten the mood a bit. Hunter at Dailykos explaining the finer points of US libel law as it relates to POTUS: dailykos.com

Donald Trump’s minions seem to be confused about this, so let’s fill them in on something they’re going to need to know going forward: The President of the United States has the least legal protection against criticism or libel of anyone in the country. As the ultimate public figure, courts are obliged to grant public citizens wide leeway. This is why, for example, elected public officials, private citizens, and the Fox News channel have been repeatedly able to peddle 100% false information about Barack Obama for a decade with absolutely no repercussions.

To demonstrate how this works, I could, for example, say something like “President Donald Trump is a small-penised sex-obsessed pervert who stands accused of raping a 13 year old girl and who, given his temperament, has in all likelihood sexually abused at least one of his own children. He is mentally unstable and among the dumbest individuals ever to hold any public office anywhere, is quite probably colluding with Russia to undermine American interests, and spends his evenings aggressively masturbating to National Geographic footage of burrowing meerkats. His sole aim in acquiring the presidency is to convert the Lincoln Bedroom into a Rape Room, and he will sell an American nuclear weapon to ISIS for fifteen dollars and change if he thinks he’d make two dollars worth of profit on it.”

Jews, Latinos, blacks, women, and gays are going to all be threatened by this presidency. I wonder what it will take to keep those people from voting for him later?

Your list is incomplete.

Another big group that will need to worry are journalists.

Others to consider: artists, comedians, scientists that push global warming and other stuff considered “junk science” by the wingnuts and anyone that says anything against the regime. Basically everyone in this country could end up toeing the line.

I believed him back in the 1990s when he said he wanted to let Medicare wither on the vine.

He told the the truth and his protege Paul Ryan is going to make it happen.

I could care less about Trump. It’s Bannon that scares the shit out of me.

That’s what i’ve been trying to impress upon people that I’ve been speaking with IRL about the fallout of President Play-Doh’s election: Trump may be walking back a bunch of his campaign promises, but he’s still a Republican, bringing in a bunch of GOP retreads and new alt-righters to the Executive Branch. This, combined with a Republican Congress and a soon-to-be-resurgent conservative SCOTUS, should be the ultimate takeaway from all of this, but it’s not like many of us didn’t try to warn people.

Basically, enough of the American people, in just the right spots, decided to say, “just lie to me and say that you love me while you’re fucking me and everyone else with no lube.”

Re: the electoral college.
theodysseyonline.com

“Your vote is not as equal as others.
In a true democracy, every citizen’s vote should count equally; however, this is not the case with the electoral college. The electoral college is made up of 538 “votes” that are theoretically distributed proportionally per the population of the state. Each state gets a minimum of 3 electoral votes, and then obtain more based on their population. States then, by theory, should receive 1 electoral vote for approximately every 565,000 people. This does not occur, however, due to the 3 vote minimum per state. Let’s take California and Wyoming for example; the highest and lowest populated states, respectively. In 2008, California had an estimated population of 36,756,666 compared to Wyoming’s 532,668. If solely distributed by population, California should have received 65 electoral votes, but was instead only granted 55. On the contrary, Wyoming was given their minimum 3 votes while they only should have had 1. This means that every vote cast in the 2008 election by a citizen of Wyoming had a relative value of 318% compared to California’s meager 85%. Likewise, in 2008, 36 of the 50 states + DC had their vote count for more than that of the other 15 states (fairvote.org).”

The US conservative movement has supersaturated itself with racist dog whistles etc. to such an extent that the instant someone wins by being explicitly racist (as Trump has done), the entire movement becomes alt-right overnight.

I come from a Sunni family, I speak on experience when it comes to people who talk about unity and pretend to show no concern for minorities being persecuted in their own country. Plus that 140 character limit prevented from mentioning extremists either.

That being said, I don’t have any issue with calling out the hypocrisy other Muslim groups either.

I’m sorry you feel that way, but I can’t go around and pretend that Sunni privilege is as real as white privilege in many Muslim countries. When you have a friend that is an Ahmadi and very few Sunni Muslims acknowledge the reality he had to go through in his own country, then you’ll understand. Maybe you can see the 100k+ Muslims who came out to protest a Christian governor in Jakarta and resorted to calling for his execution over a heavily doctored video, you know the same way that Tea Party protestors did the same with Obama?

Except when they throw a temper tantrum and stay home during the election.

Is that really what happened this election? One would have expected that behavior to manifest itself most strongly in safe liberal states like MA and CA, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The states of PA, MI and WI appear to have been more impacted by Republican voter suppression measures and the FBI assuming that the favorable margin in late deciders for Trump was impacted by Comey’s November surprise.

As much as I support SSM, it would actually make more sense for him to say he wouldn’t touch Roe but would SSM since Roe has been settled law for over 40 years and SSM has for only a couple. That said, as I said, there are other protections for LGBT people that he can and I think certainly will eliminate since Pence has already said that’s in the plans.

Yeah 2018 is going to be tough. Typically midterms do favor the out of power party but the problem the Dems have is so many are up for re-election so the math doesn’t favor us and combine that with our known weak turnout in midterms and it’s very possible that the GOP could be looking at more Senate seats in 2018.

I know it’s hard to believe now, but I used to view Charles Johnson in the same vein as Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller in those days. And I actually got banned from a forum I used to post on when Obama won in 2008 by laughing and gloating about the responses on here when that happened.

Of course, after Obama’s win and Charles Johnson’s highly publicized parting of the Right that made me into a staunch supporter of the site and its goals.

Granted I do deal with the usual nutcase that keeps bringing up the past associations with Islamophobes, but they’re tolerable. In many ways, this site did change me, but I still have much to improve.

Strangely, the House seems more doable. The triennial math is pretty much unworkable for the Senate, unless there’s a total Trump SHTF, and that would wreck a majority of Americans.

A majority in the House is going to be so fucking hard with the gerrymandering he would have to really fuck things up to… oh, hey, where’d our Medicare go?

OMFG, imagining Trump as President Skroob does take the edge off a bit, especially since the reason the Spaceballs went after Druidia’s air was because they wrecked their own atmosphere/air supply:

538
electrotek  Nov 13, 2016 • 6:51:16pm

There’s one thing that LGF got me to look at: looking at the Israeli/Palestinian conflict from a different lens.

It made me realize the nuances associated with either side.

I used to be one of those people in the pro-Palestine side who would equate Zionism with everything bad and believe all Zionists are similar to Nazis. You know, the whole Zionism = Nazism shtick that many in the pro-Palestine camp engage in.

But after the site’s break from the Right, I saw that there are many in the pro-Israel camp that are opposed to Islamophobia (after all it were Jews who stood up for Bosnian Muslims early in the conflict), while realizing that many who claim to be pro-Palestine are just as complicit in Islamophobia and veneration of criminals like Milosevic.

It wasn’t immediate, it was gradual and took 3-4 years to completely realize it.

When the Gaza crisis occurred in July 2014, that’s when I officially adopted the position that I am not anti-Zionist, but anti-Likudnik.

I adopted the position in part to show that it is not right to say all Zionists are the same when it is not the case. And I don’t want to alienate those who are critical of Netanyahu the ilk as well.

Why am I telling you guys this? To show that this site itself can change the perceptions of many people, even while working with other flaws at the same time. This is a great site that should be commended for staying true to its values and not straying from it.

And also, it is making me recover from the meltdown I’ve experienced on social media by highlighting the positives.

re: #538 electrotek

Respect. We all grow in some ways. By the way, I believe you and Ziggy have had a lot of legitimate concerns about the Serbian government too. Zig had in teh past though to his credit hasn’t generalized the Serbian people as much anymore. I just wanted to point that my late grandfather’s best friend, a Serbian-American happily voted against Trump and for Clinton. And I myself am an American of Yugoslavian descent. In America, we should be able to look past a lot of the old hatreds and learn to live and love together. I’m part Irish as well and two of my cousins have married Englishmen and my British cousins in law are two of the best guys I know.

Fight over what?

The thousand-year fight against the darkness.

They go saying each: “I am one of many”;
Their hands empty save for history.
They die at bridges, bridge gates, and drawbridges.
Remember now there were others before;
The sepulchres are full at ford and bridgehead.
There will be children with flowers there,
And lambs and golden-eyed lions there,
And people remembering in the future.

Bill can explain it better than I can but like Spain 80 years ago, it’s a battle against the forces of modernity and the forces of the old ways. Plus, how many short stories have there been about the U.S. Civil War versus Spanish Civil? Granted, that’s because we’re Americans and not Spanish but the Spanish Civil War has always got my imagination. And frankly a lot of the divide in the Civil War here was heavily regional. In Spain, I don’t think it was so much like that. But again, that’s why I need to read more. I have Beevor’s book and Orwell’s Homage ot Catalonia but I haven’t read anything else.

The thousand-year fight against the darkness.

The birds they sang
at the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don’t dwell on what
has passed away
or what is yet to be.
Ah the wars they will
be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again
the dove is never free.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.

I can’t run no more
with that lawless crowd
while the killers in high places
say their prayers out loud.
But they’ve summoned, they’ve summoned up
a thundercloud
and they’re going to hear from me.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.

It’s important to remember that some of the factions changed - the Falage at the beginning was quite different from the public face that Franco massaged it into later.

But yes, it was those who wanted to live in the 20th century vs those who wanted the 17th. The 17th won and Spain’s economy is still recovering in some ways and people are still digging up mass graves and plastering over the bullet holes in the cemetery walls where the political prisoners & people pulled out of their homes at midnight by the Guardia Civil were dragged for their murders.

Perhaps that’s the hook for your story - one of your two, at the end of the war, is in the GC and leading a death squad that arrests the other one. Then flashback time? Or something like An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge?

All of our worst-case scenarios depend on the abolition of the filibuster. I’m still not 100% sure they’re going to do that. They do have the memory of eight years in the wilderness, after all. There might be a few cooler heads to prevail — it wouldn’t take many, given the current makeup of the Senate. (Yes, I realize I’m being a hopeless optimist. Deal with it.)

The medicare and social security bills have to get through the House — which is up for reelection every two years. Will the Florida Republication delegation go along with it, for example? (And so on — if you assume all Democrats oppose it, there would need to be something like 25 Republicans voting against it. Not a huge number.)

Yeah, that’s true. Man, that’s just crazy to think about it. I really enjoyed my time there a couple years back. Beautiful country. I remember seeing Catalan flags in Barcelona and Basque graffiti in Pamplona. Like the idea for the start of the story, I’ll have to think about that. IT does sort of feed what I’m thinking and VB, why it would be hard to set this in the American Civil War because the Union and Confederates were more considerate with some exceptions i.e. Andersonville and how black POWs were treated to each other’s prisoners and prisoners exchanged often.

I’m not talking about people who voted for him when I talk about those types. The types that voted for him, I’m going to view with a lot of suspicion as soon as they come gring to us. I’m just saying we won’t be able to stop his agenda with just the people who voted for Hillary and some of the peopel who will help us may not have been been able to vote yet because of age or citizenship status.

I do wonder about Collins. She’s sort of in a otugh spot since that one district went to Trump. I mean I think she’s got enough of a conscience to do the right in opposing Trump but at the same time, I do wonder if it could mean she’d get primaried by LaPage down the road. Granted, that could mean a possibility for a Dem pick up in the Senate. Sasse, I wonder about too. He’s been very consistent in his Anti-Trump message but he too is in a tough spot now that Trump’s won. He and Trump will both be up for re-election at the same tin four years.

re: #546 HappyWarrior

Yeah to be fair, even though I don’t like to hold collective responsibility toward anybody, the way I deliver the message would run contradictory to my belief.

I don’t want to hold all of Serbia responsible for what happened, because I fully realize that there is a sizable minority who doesn’t deny the crimes committed. And if I meet a Serb or Greek or Assyrian or Chaldean or [insert any group that has victimized Muslims], I would still prefer to give them benefit of the doubt instead of just brushing them off.

It’s not like I would want all of Serbia bombed for even more punishment for its crimes. What’s done is done. I just wish they would acknowledge their crimes, but hopefully they eventually will, even if it takes another 100 years for it.

To add, it has also exposed an ugly side of me after the election. The side where I would love nothing more to see Middle Eastern Christians or Iranians who voted for Trump to suffer, and suffer at the hands of those whom they feel are their allies for their misguided vote. The video I posted yesterday of an Assyrian woman being degraded by someone for speaking the language was a powderkeg for me, as I went ballistic and started being “joyful” even at seeing poetic justice being enforced.

Even for many of us in the anti-Trump camp, this election has exposed us as well. The ugly side of human nature and the desire to settle scores and inflict harm on those that made illogical choices that affect us.

re: #702 electrotek

I look at this way, I probably have ancestors who were Christians, Jews, Muslims, Pagans, Hindus, etc. I don’t believe myself to be a pure anything. Am I proud to have ties to certain regions? Yes, sure but it’s because I admire their culture and I would never use being part whatever to trumpet myself as beng superior. In the end of the day, I’m a mutt descended from other mutts. In short, I’m a human being.

I’ve had this idea of writing a short story set in the Spanish Civil War about two friends who join the opposing sides. I haven’t really given ti too much though since I don’t know enough about the Spanish Civil War to write such a story.

A movie that sorta treads that territory:

imdb.com
en.wikipedia.org

True story of two best friends in Yugoslavia, both expert marksmen, who become snipers on opposing sides in the Bosnian War.

Sounds like it may be time for us to start taking pro-active measures and establish a presence on the dark web just in case we become targets….

Yep. Already exploring my options.
