Trump Adviser Kellyanne Conway Issues Veiled Threat of Legal Action Against Harry Reid

Reid “should be very careful … in a legal sense”

With all the other awful stuff in the news about Donald Trump’s impending takeover, you might have missed this disturbing sidenote: Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway went on Fox News today and issued a veiled threat of legal action against Harry Reid.

And of course, when challenged she denied that’s what she meant, but how else can we interpret the statement that Reid “should be very careful about characterizing somebody in a legal sense?”

It’s a threat. Obviously. No matter how she tried to disguise it. And she wouldn’t have said this unless it had already been discussed with Trump.

We’re getting glimpses into a future in which the office of the presidency becomes a bludgeon used to silence political enemies.

UPDATE at 11/13/16 8:10:15 pm by Charles Johnson

Harry Reid’s office responds :

“It only took five days for President-elect Trump to try to silence his critics with the threat of legal action. This should shock and concern all Americans.

“Trump has always used threats and intimidation to silence his critics. Now he wants to silence a discussion of the acts of hate and threats of violence being committed in his name across the country. Silencing this discussion normalizes hate and intimidates the victims.

“The facts are stark and shocking. Since Trump was elected, acts of hate against Muslims, Jews, women and people of color have spiked dramatically. The KKK is planning a parade to celebrate Trump’s victory because the KKK sees Trump as their champion. Today, a headline in one newspaper reads, ‘Popular neo-Nazi site urges readers to troll liberals into suicide,’ while another reads, ‘Post-election spate of hate crimes worse than 9-11.’

“But instead of rising to the responsibility of his office, Trump is hiding behind his Twitter account and sending his staff on TV to threaten his critics.

“If this is going to be a time of healing, Trump must take action immediately to stop the acts of hate and threats of violence that are being committed in his name across the country. Trump owes the nation leadership, not petty attempts to silence his critics.”

Kellyanne is awful. Just as bad as Bannon IMO. Really look at some of the past statements she’s made. She may not look like your drunk uncle like Bannon does but she’s just as hateful. In fact, there’s something terrifying about Conway in that she was opposed to Trump but polished up the turd.

Appalling. But I’m not sure she “must have discussed it with Donald Trump.” I never had the idea that the campaign was that well organized or run.

HappyWarrior, just in case you didn’t see my response:

“Yeah to be fair, even though I don’t like to hold collective responsibility toward anybody, the way I deliver the message would run contradictory to my belief.

I don’t want to hold all of Serbia responsible for what happened, because I fully realize that there is a sizable minority who doesn’t deny the crimes committed. And if I meet a Serb or Greek or Assyrian or Chaldean or [insert any group that has victimized Muslims], I would still prefer to give them benefit of the doubt instead of just brushing them off.

It’s not like I would want all of Serbia bombed for even more punishment for its crimes. What’s done is done. I just wish they would acknowledge their crimes, but hopefully they eventually will, even if it takes another 100 years for it.

To add, it has also exposed an ugly side of me after the election. The side where I would love nothing more to see Middle Eastern Christians or Iranians who voted for Trump to suffer, and suffer at the hands of those whom they feel are their allies for their misguided vote. The video I posted yesterday of an Assyrian woman being degraded by someone for speaking the language was a powderkeg for me, as I went ballistic and started being “joyful” even at seeing poetic justice being enforced.

Even for many of us in the anti-Trump camp, this election has exposed us as well. The ugly side of human nature and the desire to settle scores and inflict harm on those that made illogical choices that affect us.”

Milwaukee elections chief: Voter ID law hurt the city’s turnout

[…]

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin had 250 volunteers observing in places that have historically had a high number of election day registrations. Volunteers reported voters lacking a proper ID being turned away without being offered provisional ballots.

“We definitely saw real people leaving. They were not offered a provision ballot and they should be,” executive director Andrea Kaminski said. “Probably it was happening a lot more than we saw.”

Voter ID laws are the new Jim Crow. What’s fucked up and this happened in Wisconsin is Walker closed down several DMVs where one could get the new ID you needed. It’s a shameful thing these Republicans do and it’s because they know with depressed turnout, they win, they’re enemies of Democracy.

It’s not Jim Crow. It’s James Corvine. Wrapped up in new clothes, it looks different, based on the Supremes ruling, but it serves the same purpose. Pretty! Shiny! New!

Very true. Fascinating thing I remember reading about Streicher reading about the inner circle of the Nazis is taht even he was despised by many of them. I imagine Jones wouldn’t have too many friends but he would have Trump’s friendship and that’s all that matters.

Obama sent this out to supporters earlier today (excerpted):

The road ahead is certainly going to be bumpier than we expected — but that’s OK, [C1nnabar].

When we set out on this journey nearly ten years ago, we knew it wouldn’t be an easy one. And everything we’ve accomplished since then came about because of our hard work — our determination to make the change we wanted to see, no matter what obstacles confronted us.

We can’t get discouraged, [C1nnabar]. We can’t get cynical. As Hillary said on Wednesday morning, fighting for what is right is worth it.

It’s time to brush ourselves off, get back in the arena, and get ready to fight.

In a way, it’s going to be weird seeing Jones suck up to power. He’ll either be a Trump loyalist to the very end or he’ll turn on him early sensing the money there is to play the jilted disillusioned Trumper game. Eitehr way, he’s a terrible person for what he and his assholes did to those Newtown parents. And for that, I hope he’s haunted by those children whose lives he mocked.

re: #24 austin_blue

Saved ACA, though.

Not really. The ACA decision lets the states do all kinds of anti-ACA bullshit, which is probably responsible for some of the high ACA premium stories we’ve seen since then.

Also, had SCOTUS completely killed the ACA on a party line vote, that would have made it too obvious what was going on. It would likely have energized both Democrats and the media to take a hard look at what SCOTUS has been up to.

So Roberts’ decision on the ACA doesn’t cut much ice with me. He did as much damage as he realistically could do, while still keeping a veneer of legitimacy for the SCOTUS conservatives. After all, he needed that credibility for the planned and forthcoming gutting of the voting rights act.

National Review started out with justifying Jim Crow, and has never materially improved since then.

The least obnoxious version of US conservatism is mindless adherence to tradition. Every time conservatives actually try to reason their way to their desired conclusions, they make their positions more offensive. Marriage equality is a perfect example.

Beyond the pale. Barf. I researched the origins of that phrase many years ago. Seems it literally referred to the borders of Poland (ie, pale land), the designated homeland/ghetto for Jews, and it originated with Catherine The Great. Essentially, Beyond the pale meant Off the reservation. So enlightened, modern and tolerant. Double barf.

I don’t think Jones has the skills to be a courtier. He has to keep snapping at something like a maddened shark or his shtick will grind to a halt.

Con artists like Alex Jones need to rail against something sinister and unseen at all times. There always has to be a boogeyman in order to make his living. With all the politcal power now in the hands of his friends, the loony right and Trump, he will pivot to other things.

There are several mainstays of conspiracy loons: UFO’s, Satantic cults, JFK, and Rockefeller/Brentwood/international banksters/Illuminati (ahem.. nudge, nudge…..*Jews).

UFO’s are out. Too off topic right now.

JFK…. Too Democrat. Can’t risk presenting any Democrat in a sympathetic way.

That leaves Satanic Cults in the USA and International Bankers/Illuminati. I think Alex will pivot to both. Lots of talk about, and lots to try and pin on Democrats and (ahem….nudge nudge….*Jews). We are now walking through the door of a very unhinged, insane period of American History with no one at the top to manage an appearance of basic morality or human decency at all. At least Bush2 presented those qualities, all the while destroying the middle class with massive deficits and wars. Obama offered perhaps the most decent and moral person to ever reside in the White House. We have none on of this in Trump. Alex Jones will find a distraction to take the rancid smell of tax cuts for the richest and upcoming wars (Iran and N Korea) off the minds of the 35% of this country enamoured with Trump.
