It should have happened before the election.

But tonight, Twitter has suspended a whole bunch of racist and white supremacist accounts, including Richard Spencer, Radix Journal, the National Policy Institute, and several other less well-known but just as ugly accounts.

In a normal transition to a normal administration, there’s always disorder. There are the presidential friends and second cousins, the flacks and the hangers-on who flame out in the first year or two. There are the bad choices — the abusive bosses, the angry ideologues and the sheer dullards. You accept the good with the bad and know that there will be stupid stuff going on, particularly at the beginning. Things shake out. Even if you are just blocking errors, it is a contribution.

This time may be different. Trump was not a normal candidate, the transition is not a normal transition, and this will probably not be a normal administration. The president-elect is surrounding himself with mediocrities whose chief qualification seems to be unquestioning loyalty. He gets credit for becoming a statesman when he says something any newly elected president might say (“I very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future”) — and then reverts to tweeting against demonstrators and the New York Times. By all accounts, his ignorance, and that of his entourage, about the executive branch is fathomless. It’s not even clear that he accepts that he should live in the White House rather than in his gilt-smeared penthouse in New York.

That’s great. People have become so much more accepting of Asperger’s than when I was a kid. We know more about it now so that helps too. I think that’s why I don’t like it when people complain about kids these days. I mean there are still bullies obviously but I think kids are more tolerant of kids who are different now.

His personal grudge with Christie who I obviously have no love for either could cost Trump at least some marginally competent people in defense and national security. As far as cabinet possibilities? My least favorite is Jefferson Beauregard Sessions the third with his history of bigotry and his alleged stupid joke that he was okay with the KKK until he found out some of them smoked weed. The guy just looks like he could be a bad guy in a movie about a pre-war Senate fight over slavery and even has the name.

That’s very gracious of the victim. I have Asperger’s myself. I am glad it wasn’t politically related. And I hope that people show this young man some compassion in light of this event. I’m pretty happy with every elected official, especially Senator, he chooses. Sessions is a major league asshole, yes, but the only other way he leaves the senate is death. Yeah, the dems would be unlikely to pick up a seat in Alabama, but if the senate election is a special election, low turnout could cause wierd things to happen.

Nah. Locum is the Stockholm County Council Real Estate Holding and Premises management company. The County Council has been conservative-led since ‘06,
and does not have the best of bottom lines, yet the conservative-led centre-right alliance has for the longest time resisted increasing taxes even the slightest fraction.

They have an ongoing scandal with a company called OneMed which was supposed to make consumables for the health care sector cheaper, but sold support stockings for 5,000 SEK ($550-ish) per pair to the council. The contract was of course terminated, but not before OneMed managed to secure a clause which prevented the County Council to speak negatively of the company.

And OneMed got caught trying to get the identities of the journalists which broke the story about the less than honest business practices of OneMed, which the County council had to refuse because of the source protection law here (basically, if they had, the person letting OneMed have the info would go to jail).

The OneMed deal was made during Filippa Reinfeldt’s reign in the Council. Yes, ex-Mrs of the former Swedish PM… She now works for Aleris, a (primarily) geriatric care provider. And this publicity fail appears to have been made back during her reign, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the council either got what they bought (cheapest PR possible) or got caught in another less than honorable business deal.

Investigations into the other contracts made during Reinfeldt’s reign are ongoing.

Yep, righties do this kinda shit this side of the pond too…

See, here’s the thing, there certainly are cases where regulation, while well-intended, is overwhelming and often counterproductive (government acquisitions in general or the GMO crop regulations mentioned earlier, which have the effect of locking out everyone who doesn’t know how or doesn’t have the resources to navigate the system). If Republicans were interested in addressing that, I’d be sympathetic. But rolling back river pollution controls? Not on board with that at all.

So MSNBC decided it’s time, finally, to practice a little journalism (probably just a little, I’m sure they’ll be over it in a few minutes)…

Trump owes Deutschbank $650 million; Deutschbank owes the DoJ $14 billion in mortgage/bond fraud penalties. The bank is trying to renegotiate their fines and have them reduced, does Trump have a conflict of interest?

Trump owes the Bank of China (state-owned) $950 million, and he’s threatening to have the US file charges against China accusing them of currency manipulation. Does he have a conflict of interest?

We don’t know how many other conflicts he may have because we haven’t seen his taxes.

Then a whole discussion of what a “blind trust” is, and why his kids running his business isn’t the least bit “blind.”

I have a nerf specifically for throwing at the TV in these circumstances. Newsweek published an Eichenwald story about this very thing (a much longer story, with dozens of examples) about a month ago. From the rest of the media, crickets. NOW they want to talk about it?!?!?

Good thing he didn’t have a private e-mail server.

I have a nerf specifically for throwing at the TV in these circumstances. Newsweek published an Eichenwald story about this very thing (a much longer story, with dozens of examples) about a month ago. From the rest of the media, crickets. NOW they want to talk about it?!?!?

So, My TV was turned on as soon as I awoke this morning and since I had Rachel on as I crashed last night, Morning Joke was on. I was still groggy and tried to listen, but damn that first 15 or minutes was just a jumbled mess. Which by the way is not unusual in itself, but this was chaos uncontrolled!

I think they were ragging on Rudy G and his getting paid for speaking to rogue countries for big bucks, compared that to Clinton, and then put it into context with Trump choosing a cabinet, etc. But I am not sure. I also couldn’t figure out if they were making it all a joke or were serious. Were they being critical of Trump or saying this is politics as usual because there are always screw ups when choosing a new government?

Can I get an interpretation? Anyone watch past the first half hour that can put that crap into some kind of logical conclusion?

Doing some research on Trade Deficits and came across this UpShot article. Good reading:

Wouldn’t it be better if the U.S. didn’t run a deficit?

It’s not clear that that’s even an option, because the dollar isn’t used just in trade between the United States and other countries.

The dollar is a global reserve currency, meaning that it is used around the world in transactions that have nothing to do with the United States. When a Malaysian company does business with a German company, in many cases it will do business in dollars; when wealthy people in Dubai or Singapore’s government investment fund want to sock away money, they do so in large part in dollar assets.

That creates upward pressure on the dollar for reasons unrelated to trade flows between the United States and its partners. That, in turn, makes the dollar stronger, and American exporters less competitive, than they would be in a world where nobody used the dollar for anything except commerce involving the United States.

The roughly $500 billion trade deficit that the United States runs each year isn’t just about poorly negotiated trade deals and currency manipulation by this or that country. It’s also, to some degree, a byproduct of the central role the United States plays in the global financial system.

There’s even a name for this: the Triffin dilemma. In the mid-20th century, the economist Robert Triffin warned that the provider of the global reserve currency would need to run perpetual trade deficits to keep the world financial system from freezing, with those trade deficits potentially fueling domestic booms and busts.

The key idea is that if a President Trump or any other future leader really wants to reduce our trade deficits in a major way, that leader is going to have to rethink the very underpinnings of global finance.

Obama is leaving Drump a very health economy and the likelihood for these barometers to hold steady is low. Economic dips are cyclic on 7 to 10 year cycles. Kurdish separatism, Arab resentment in Khuzestan, neglect of Iranian Balochs in Sistan-Balochistan, Azeri nationalism, and Sunni extremism from a minority of Salafis that have managed to infiltrate Iran. Not everyone shares Iranian nationalism when they have their own cause to support.

But with one caveat: it’s not entirely coming from Sistan-Baluchistan, but from places like Kermanshah where Kurdish Sunnis live. There was an NPR article early this year that talked about how catastrophic a Da’esh suicide attack in Tehran would be for the Sunnis. And another article I linked a month ago talking about that. And they are very afraid.

To cut it in laymen’s terms, it will be worse than Iraq.

When you call Congress, you need to call your Representative and your Senators. Those are the only people who may or may not take action on your call. Everyone else will at best forward your message to your Rep or Senator. Right now we do not need to do advocacy, we need to do an intelligence appreication of where people stand on Paul Ryan’s “A Better Way” for Medicare.

So when you call your Congressional office, let’s ask a very simple question that we should be able to get a yes or no:

“Does Congressman Doe support Paul Ryan’s “A Better Way” plans for Medicare?”

I’ve already called my reps last week but I’m going to call again and ask if they have a defense plan.

I hate to say this, because it will likely trigger something of a constitutional crisis, but I would not be surprised to see Section 4 of the Twenty-fifth Amendment invoked at some point during Trump’s presidency. And not because he became sick and unable to carry out the duties of the office. And if/when it happens, I fully expect Trump to fight over it.

(For those who don’t know, Section 4 of the 25th Amendment allows the Vice-President and a majority of the cabinet to temporarily remove the president by sending a letter to the Speaker and President Pro Tempore of the Senate stating that the president is unable to carry out the duties of the office. Once the letter is sent, the VPOTUS becomes Acting President. It’s likely meant for incidents where the president has a heart attack or stroke, or is comatose. But there’s nothing in the language of the Amendment that limits it to such circumstances)

Once the letter is sent, the VPOTUS becomes Acting President. It’s likely meant for incidents where the president has a heart attack or stroke, or is comatose. But there’s nothing in the language of the Amendment that limits it to such circumstances)

Trump will probably appoint too many of his own toadies and people just as insane as he is for that to happen. This is why we’re seeing such an immediate emphasis placed by the transition team on perceived loyalty. It’s why Kushner has been able to purge the team of anyone associated with Christie, why they were open about having an enemies list and refuse to hire talented Republicans who didn’t march in exact lockstep with Trump through every scandal of his general election campaign. They’re paranoid as fuck and are surrounding Trump with people at least as batshit crazy as he is so that the entire team has bought into his Death Eater mentality. You’ll effectively be looking at an apocalyptic cult, not a traditional Administration. It’s more likely that his cabinet will be the ones who push him towards committing some horrifying atrocity. In the aftermath of such an event Pence and/or any who object would be quickly swept aside in a putsch.
