I’m almost done. Mostly we’re doing charitable contributions and plans for shared activities during the year. A wrapped gift or two for each of the (adult) kids, just because I like to. Nothing big. I’m really feeling good about the holidays this year.

Lots and lots of stuff on sale that are really tempting…

Android/Fire tablets are on sale with some deep discounts. Very tempting…

I was looking at the Fire HD devices, but one thing that puts me off the Amazon Fire line is the mixed story on compatibility with regular Android apps.

I’ve actually had pretty good luck installing regular Android apps on my Fire tablet, by using 1Mobile Market to download. You can’t install Google Play on a Fire tablet (yet), but a lot of Google Play apps end up on 1Mobile.

Mr. C. and I need to sit down and figure out how we’ll re-jigger our contributions this year, and then of course decide which of the kids’ preferred charities to give to in their names. Planned Parenthood, Lambda Legal Defense, Earth Justice, Audubon, ACLU, Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. It will be hard to pick among all the good choices.

We’ve got four of them. We each use one for bedtime reading, one for our internet radio (with the TuneIn app), and a friend of my wife gave her one as a birthday present, which we’re keeping as a spare.

Hell yeah, the MythBusters Build Team’s back together again.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved MythBusters’ early episodes when the focus was on Jamie and Adam, but, once the Build Team (more specifically, Tory, Kari, and Grant) became an integral part of the show on-screen, it added a more fun, more accessible dimension to the series. When Discovery and Beyond Communications decided to can the Build Team (as gruff as Jamie can be, I don’t think firing Tory, Kari, and Grant was his idea or that he was wanting to do it, even though the Build Team were originally Jamie’s employees at M5, as was Adam) and take it back to just Jamie and Adam as the hosts in order to improve ratings in what became the show’s last season, it wasn’t the same and it showed.

In either case, I don’t have a problem with it at all because, in both instances, the respective groups and their chemistry and camaraderie are a big part of what made both of their former shows great, IMO.

At least MythBusters is off the air now and the Build Team was off of it when Discovery and Beyond drove it into the ground its last season; Top Gear, Matt LeBlanc’s yeoman’s job aside, is a shambling corpse.

I’m afraid to ask, but what has been the Trumpkin response?

A Somali-born Ohio State University student plowed his car into a group of pedestrians on campus and then got out and began stabbing people with a butcher knife Monday before he was shot to death by an officer. Police said they are investigating whether it was a terrorist attack.

Eleven people were hurt, one critically.

The attacker was identified as Abdul Razak Ali Artan. He was born in Somalia and was a legal permanent U.S. resident, according to a U.S. official who wasn’t authorized to discuss the case and spoke on the condition of anonymity. The FBI joined the investigation.

I met Tory and Grant at the gun shop in San Carlos where they got all their advice, etc. They were filming, and I waited till they were done and told the guys how much I enjoyed the show, and that it was a good way to introduce experimental science to young folks.

Unfortunately, word is that Discovery’s sister station Science is looking to revive Mythbusters, once they find some new hosts through a “reality TV” competition show. So Discovery’s actually one-upping the Beeb when it comes to shitting on the fans of a beloved show. The Beeb at least made a show of considering the fans when they picked celebrities who’d been on Top Gear in the past and had a love for cars.

Get those new hats in there, we just got ‘em and need to start selling ‘em. And put the red one to the left (their right) of the dark one like her red outfit is left of Trumpo’s dark suit.

Good chance he is a Columbus resident too. I just read he is a first year student, so basically just started school a little over a month ago.

We have a big Somalian community here.

We’ve had our instances in the national news for terrorist related occurrences. I think a preliminary trial was held today for a guy that was trying to join ISIS.

Here is an initial report from earlier this month.

Columbus man arrested while allegedly trying to join ISIS

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested a man believed to be trying to join ISIS at John Glenn International Airport in Columbus Monday morning.

Aaron T. Daniels, also known as Harun Muhammad and Abu Yusuf is accused of providing or attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization.

Daniels, 20, appeared in federal court in Columbus Monday afternoon, where he was ordered held without bond until a bond hearing Thursday at 9 a.m.

According to a federal complaint, Daniels wired $250 to an intermediary for Abu Isa Al-Amriki, a deceased ISIS member and recruiter in early 2016.

In earlier electronic communications during the fall of 2015, according to the complaint, Daniels inquired about traveling to Syria and Afghanistan to “do jihad.”

Daniels allegedly told an undercover FBI agent that he wanted to travel to Trinidad and Tobago as the beginning of his trip to to Libya.

The complaint notes that Daniels bought a ticket from Columbus to Houston, Texas and on to Trinidad and Tobago before ultimately ending up in Libya.

“We acted [Monday] because Mr. Daniels was about to board an airplane leaving Columbus and it was going to go on a circuitous route, but we believe that the ultimate destination was Libya, where he would intend to be a fighter for ISIL,” said Benjamin Glassman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

Coulter is of the same type as those generals who spent the Cold War trying to convince various presidents that you could “win” a nuclear war. There is no “safe” usage of a nuclear bomb, once you’ve let one off the hook you basically unbalance the equation. It’s not an action you can just take back and no amount of arguing that your usage of a bomb is justified will stop your enemies from seeing it as a green flag to use theirs.

Not sure if it’s autism or the damage done by a seriously fucked up upbringing. The worst part is that other issues are possible too (my son, before they finally got the diagnosis right had at various times been diagnosed with autism spectrum, bipolar & other things.). And “liberal usage of nukes”? Even during the height of the Cold War, the Armed Forces (officially) maintained that any usage of nuclear weapons would be limited to targets whose value made up for the damage that would wrought by them. Large formations of troops and armour, strategically important targets like ammo or fuel stockpiles, command bunkers, and other targets which demanded something larger than a conventional bomb. I cannot begin to guess at what sort of targets Coulter thinks are worthy of a nuke on the modern battlefield, but I imagine they would involve a outrageously high civilian body count.
