Right Wing Terrorist Who Wanted to “Self-Investigate Pizzagate” Arrested in Washington DC

If you’re not familiar with the utterly deranged delusion called #PizzaGate that’s burning up the right wing’s Twitter and Facebook bandwidth these days, here’s a story with the full background.

All you really need to know is that the far right is caught up in a conspiracy theory that a pizzeria in Washington DC is a hub of child sex trafficking, and it involves Hillary Clinton, John Podesta and a bunch of their other favorite targets. It’s being hyped by Infowars, Gateway Pundit and a host of other right wing sources.

They’ve been going completely bonkers about this fake story for the past month, and today a man incited by this bad craziness entered the Comet Pizza restaurant with an assault rifle and terrorized the customers and employees before being arrested.

This story broke earlier today but I was holding off for confirmation that the gunman was actually inspired by the PizzaGate fake news; tonight we have that confirmation in a statement from the DC Police Department:

Amazingly, nothing at Free Republic, GOPUSA, RedState, BarbWire (though they claim Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood is about to be prosecuted), Town Hall, Drudge Report.

In the wingnutosphere, it’s as if nothing happened in DC at all.

I am surrounded by ICBM silos. FE Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne is the command for those silos, but the orders go out to the individual silos, bombers, and submarines.

A fifty percent chance would mean only half of them would fail to comply with the order.

The way the nuclear armament of the nation is set up is only the President may authorise an attack. While military commands advise the President and the Pentagon on the status of the world, only the President has the authority to transmit those orders.

Fifty percent is not good.

All my adult life I have lived in places that are targets for nuclear attack (Virginia Beach, Jacksonville, Charleston, Omaha, Chicago). There pretty much isn’t a place that is not a target or close to one.

At least with all the silos around me I know it won’t be a near miss and weeks of radiation sickness. Just lawn chairs and popcorn to watch the fireworks display.

In the 1960’s, the target was at the top of the hill behind my neighborhood. Of course, my neighborhood itself did not exist in the 1960’s; the town was a bare shell of itself, supporting the local Christian college and the military base.

See, focusing on the falsehood creates more confusion and gives the lie even more life. And that’s the wrong way to go. Focusing on Trump’s tendency to buy into BS gets to what’s really going on here. This calls for more reporting and for reporters to show our work, to show that we actually know the truth.

And that’s also a good starting point for us. When we see a lie, not only call it a lie, but ask why Trump feels the need to lie. I’m pretty sure you’ll take some heat for it, but it gets the discussion on the real topic.

Trump supporters are flying Nazi flags around my area. Dixie Swastikas are flying all over Western Nebraska, but I am sure none of that has anything to do with racism.

Nazis and the Klan, Richard Spencer and Steve Bannon all endorsed Mr. Trump. When someone shows you who they are believe them the first time.

His campaign manager in New York called all Gold Star Families terrorism supporters because we spoke out against Mr. Trump’s treatment of Ghazala Khan’s right to free speech. Mr. Trump pens the media and encourages his supporters to shout “lugenpresse” at them.

A supporter of a Nazi is a Nazi. My family members died fighting fascists and Nazis. You are just arguing you are one of the “good Germans.”

Hitler did good things (for example, encouraging the building of the Autobahn network). That does not relieve him of the horrors he inflicted on Europe.

He is using his position to further his business interests, so far with India, with Argentina, and with Taiwan. He is not acting in the interest of the nation, he is acting in the interest of himself.

You don’t get out of saying “I’m not a Nazi” if you went forth and supported a Nazi. Sorry. My grandfather fought and died to defend the world from Nazis and uphold our Constitution, even though he was a refugee from Nazi evil.

Kinda weird to think about, but 50 years ago, my town would probably be on DEFCON 1 at the current news, as a front-line anti-aircraft/anti-ICBM installation. The retirement of the Nike Hercules missile removed my town from the map of military installations.

i’ve been hanging out at The Hill comment section where i can interact with trump voters who hang out there. that particular crowd seems to be interested mostly in these issues:

1. hillary is a bitch
2. hillary will be jailed soon
3. when voter laws are in place, democrats will never win any more elections
4. you democrats are scared, arent you? please tell us that you’re scared
5. we won so history is over now and all we have left to do is look at our trophy and make fun of how scared democrats are cuz they lost

So one of the local parks puts up a big light display every year. Normally you drive through it, but this year (and maybe they’ve done it previously, I don’t know) they opened it up this weekend to pedestrians. We thought it would be fun, so we went.

They don’t allow cars at the park itself so they were talking about how they were running a free shuttle from the parking lots for one of the big tech firms down the street. Figured okay, well, we’ll do that, since it’s just a little too far to walk from home.

Hah. Hahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHA.

Apparently the event sold out (and when I bought the tickets there were over 2k remaining SO) and the line for the shuttle was probably 40+ minutes long. We left, went and drove closer, parked, and walked in. It was enjoyable once we did that, at least.

Also there was a food truck selling cupcakes.

He’s parroting what the supporters are thinking or maybe saying at home, but that’s not straight talk. That’s called rephrasing what your mark has said in order to close a sale.

Anger is a self-perpetuating thing. One thing leads to another and the next thing you know you’ve alienated your best friends. I’ve been there at LGF and IRL. Owning up to the irrational shit is a positive step and as I’ve discovered, a way to endear yourself to those folks who placed you in that cycle of anger in the first place.

So one of the local parks puts up a big light display every year. Normally you drive through it, but this year (and maybe they’ve done it previously, I don’t know) they opened it up this weekend to pedestrians. We thought it would be fun, so we went.

They don’t allow cars at the park itself so they were talking about how they were running a free shuttle from the parking lots for one of the big tech firms down the street. Figured okay, well, we’ll do that, since it’s just a little too far to walk from home.

Hah. Hahahahahaha. HAHAHAHAHA.

Apparently the event sold out (and when I bought the tickets there were over 2k remaining SO) and the line for the shuttle was probably 40+ minutes long. We left, went and drove closer, parked, and walked in. It was enjoyable once we did that, at least.

Also there was a food truck selling cupcakes.

I crack on south by dog carolina a lot, but I have to say Brookgreen Gardens (the largest outdoor sculpture garden in the US) is a truly fabulous place and their holiday Night of a Thousand Candles (now up to 10 nights) is truly breathtaking. Pics don’t do it justice, but…
