Please call your reps and tell them to force Trump to sell everything and give up his roles otherwise. And then tell those you can about his connections. For those of you lucky enough to be represented by Democrats, encourage them to speak up about them.

CNN hires Trump fluffer as newest analyst.

CNN host Anderson Cooper introduced Langley on Monday night as the network’s newest political analyst and someone who has spent “a lot of time at Trump Tower.” She then proceeded to run through some likely scenarios for Trump’s family in the coming months. An internal CNN announcement sent two days later noted Langley “will continue to cover Trump as he moves into the White House.”

Langley is not in the same mold of past CNN contributors, who worked directly for Trump (Corey Lewandowski) or were brought on board because they were boosters for his campaign (Jeffrey Lord). But the access she has to the president-elect may be just as deep. Some of her peers seem jealous of her relationship with Trump, but more show derision for the light touch they claim she gives him.

The B787 is mostly made in China now (I interviewed to go over there as part of that deal, but I didn’t have quite enough time in fabrication/production). Can you imagine the shit show that can turn into?

Also, Boeing is always in the top 2 defense contractors in the US…and Trump holds grudges. Funny how all those contracts get dissolved and the POTUS is appointing the judges who will oversee the lawsuits….

Yeah, Boeing is going to try to keep him from fucking them over.

No, because the 787 is built in Everett, WA and Charleston, SC. No doubt many parts come from China. It is not mostly made in China.

I found a YouTube of John Glenn’s flight that was produced in 1962. It’s amazing for how crude the technology looked back then. When the editors are trying to convey a sense of urgency, they show someone rushing to deliver a paper memo to someone’s desk (they even made a point of editing in a shot of an electric stapler, which was probably an exotic high-tech accessory back then). At times, it seems like it’s about to turn into an Ed Wood movie, and an early depiction of Mexicans is definitely at Wood’s level. Definitely of it’s time.

re: #12 compound_Idaho

The sourcing may well have changed since I was being considered for the work in China. The manufacturing model was deliberately set upon the Airbus paradigm where parts sourcing is diffuse and everything comes together only at the last minute. I also recall that Boeing had serious teething issues trying to implement it.

Anyways: Business Insider indicates much or even most of the actual structure (Wings, body) seems to be coming from Japan now, possibly as a result with the problems Boeing initially had in China. My information does seem to be out of date on that front. The vast majority of components do not come from US suppliers.

businessinsider.com

Boeing is one of the last great American manufacturing companies.

And while the planes are assembled in the U.S., most of their parts come from overseas

.

If you have a better source of info…tell me and link. I actually admit when I am wrong. Chickenshit downdings do not impress me.

Speaking of Boeing, consider:

Boeing employees in the company’s South Carolina facility make an average of $10 less per hour than similar employees in the company’s Everett plant.

Boeing and South Carolina politicians are determined to keep out the union
seattletimes.com

South Carolina is bound and determined to remain a right to work (for lower wages) state.

Nikki Haley, who said terrible things about Trump (and he of her) is now his UN Ambassador (with no foreign policy experience whatsoever)

I remember when that non union plant in SC opened up. The union shop in Washington State went fucking ballistic. I didn’t blame them.

I have worked in both union and non union shops. Work rules in a union shop can be annoying and may seem arbitrary (I need to undo one screw on that bonding strap to remove the panel…but I have to send a work order over to the electrician shop to get a guy here to do that even though I have a screwdriver right here in my hand and my time is running on this job card)

But…

When somebody in management fucks up and all of a sudden you get the blame for some bullshit that was not your fault…you are real damn glad to have that union shop standing up for you.

That happened to me and I will never forget it. When I needed somebody to have my back…the union at the PEMCO aviation plant in Dothan, Alabama had my back.

I have a school-teacher niece who was quite down on the teacher’s union until someone wrongfully accused her of something and the union stood behind her 100%. She feels quite differently now.

This is an extremely common and frustrating phenomenon. People who are barely making minimum wage are voting for people who don’t want them to make more, don’t want to offer help for them or their families or their neighborhoods, and give all the money to people who already have it.

And these people hate unions, when unions are working to get them better work and better pay.

It would be great if the Dem celebrities (which would be pretty much all of those with talent) staged a competing event the same day—for some big charity.

So are the “they’re both essentially the same, so I’m not voting/voting 3rd party” people hitting themselves with a clue-by-4 now? I’m available to take a few swings at them, if not.

My reply was this:

Nah, because they’re too full of the smug superiority they’re feeling for not “being part of the system”, everyone else (not just us here in the US, but everyone worldwide, since our actions [and inactions] have a global reach) be damned. And, since many Bernie-or-Busters and Steinites tend to be well-off (or, at least, what still passes for middle-class) white folks, they seem to think that Trump’s batshit-crazy agenda and position picks (along with a GOP-controlled Congress that’s really gonna be driving the bus) either won’t affect them directly or that Trump will tank the country so bad, it will usher in the Glorious Socialist Revolution in 2020 (seriously!!!).

As a former longtime expat, let me clear this up:

Supermarkets in Europe (and presumably other areas) will stock unusual items their expat customers request as a gesture of kindness. Nothing more, nothing less. The shelf you see there is full of garbage because their customers have requested that garbage.

I was in Sevilla, Spain 2 months ago. I ran across a shop called “Taste of America”. Here is what they sell:

- many breakfast cereals and pop-tarts (as you see in that tweet)

- peanut butter

- Dr. Pepper

- yellow mustard

- Stubb’s BBQ sauce (shudder)

- cake mixes

and that is about it!

They didn’t start this shop to insult Americans or to editorialize about American tastes…they did it because American expats miss certain supermarket items they cannot find abroad, and they are willing to pay a premium price for a taste of home. Same deal with all of those crazy UK supermarket shelves one finds all over the internet.

This would explain the “Spotted Dick” and “Salad Cream” one finds in the International Section.

When I lived in Israel (in the 1970’s) what I really missed were Jif peanut butter and Heinz ketchup. The Israeli peanut butter, Egozi, was grainy and oily, and the ketchup was sickeningly sweet.

Then when I came back to the US, the grainy oily peanut butter was being sold in stores as “natural” and it cost twice as much as good old Jif.

Now you can buy Jif and Heinz at Israeli supermarkets.

Just saw this checking some sports stuff. This story has been followed by more than a few LGF members.

What a continuing mess this is….and at a “good” Christian University. Hey folks…read that book you are so fond of and claim you follow. You might find some answers to your problems or something. You too coach.

ESPN - Ex-coach Art Briles sues Baylor officials for libel, conspiracy

The first part of the story:

AUSTIN, Texas — Former Baylor football coach Art Briles sued three school regents and a vice president for libel and slander Thursday, accusing them of falsely stating he knew of reported assaults and alleged gang rapes by players and didn’t report them.

The lawsuit also asserts that Baylor officials conspired to damage his reputation and keep him from getting another coaching job. It also seeks damages for emotional distress and likely ending his career as a coach “on any level.”

“Some people think themselves above the law, but the laws of Texas establish accountability for everyone, even renegade, self-dealing regents of a Christian university,” Briles’ lawsuit states.

The lawsuit was filed in Llano County in central Texas. It names Baylor regents Chairman Ronald Murff, board members J. Cary Gray and David Harper, and Baylor Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Reagan Ramsower.

Briles’ attorney, Ernest Cannon, and Baylor officials didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from ESPN.

“I’d like to hear these regents and Mr. Ramsower tell their story under oath in broad daylight and open court,” Cannon told The Associated Press.

Briles was fired last May after an investigation determined Baylor mishandled reports of alleged sexual and physical assaults, some by football players.

The lawsuit accuses the regents and Ramsower of spreading false information through media interviews with Texas and national outlets on the advice of a recently hired media relations firm, G.F. Bunting + Co., which was not named as a defendant.

Once upon a time,
You could hear the Saturn’s roar
As it rose upon it’s fiery tail to space.
And once upon a time, the men that we sent out
Landed in a strange and alien place.
And as I watched them walk upon the Moon,
I remembered Icarus,
Who flew too close to the Sun.

Once upon a time, they tore the gantries down
And the rockets flew no longer to the Moon.
And once upon a time,
We swore that we’d return,
But it doesn’t look like we’ll be back there soon

And as the Moon shines down
On the shattered launching ground,
I remember Apollo,
Who flew the chariot of the Sun.
And I wonder of the legends they will tell
A thousand years from now.

re: #124 American Bunnygothic

They booed JOHN GLENN? What is the deal with those freaks? What reason would they even have to do that? Are they afraid of space?

John Glenn was a Democrat.

My wife and I are stopped in Rawlings, Wyoming. Ahead of us is a Winter Storm Warning that stretches across western Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. We decided to quit while we could still get a room, as the Smart is not equipped with a plough.

In the meantime, screw Trump’s supporters at Nuremberg Rally, the Sequel with a rusty chainsaw. John Glenn was a war hero of two wars and both the first American to orbit the Earth and the oldest astronaut ever in space (from his 1998 Discovery shuttle trip).

Rep. Paul Ryan ordered the flag to half-staff at the Capitol, Ohio Governor John Kasich ordered it to half-staff in Ohio. I suspect a message will be coming tomorrow either from President Obama to do the same nationwide; I fired a message back at my village asking one of the other trustees to lower the flags in town in that event. (That is normally my job as the lefty liberal.)

re: #12 compound_Idaho

Actually, the pieces of the 787, built primarily (over 70%) in other countries, are assembled into complete airplanes at Boeing/Seattle and the mirror-image, union-busting Charleston assembly locations.

Boeing in the case of the ‘Dreamliner’ has ceased to be a ‘manufacturer’ and is now a ‘systems integrator’.

Japan has the largest workshare of any one country, the wings for all B787s are built there by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, in addition to some electronics and fuselage sections. Other major suppliers are Italy (more fuselage sections) and Canada. AFAIK China has a significant work share but mostly in subassemblies and components of a minor nature.

Funnily, the rear pressure bulkhead is made by an Airbus subsidiary, Latecorere.

That said, it’s a little ironic that we choose to allow Boeing (indeed, like most other companies they get tax credits for outsourcing aerospace know-how and work overseas-(further irony, much of said know-how paid for by NASA and the DoD)) to ‘outsource’ to countries that we run massive trade deficits with.

All in the name of union-busting and currying Wall Street’s favor.

Also that said- this is not to disparage the Japanese and Italians whose aerospace expertise is on par with any other country’s.

Fun fact, there is more US content by dollar value in an A380 (with the GE/Pratt engines) than there is in a 787.
