This video from last night’s Chris Hayes Town Hall was brought up earlier today. It was Bernie talking about political correctness.

Bernie Sanders: Trump Won Because People Are ‘Tired’ of ‘Politically Correct Rhetoric’

I am watching Hayes tonight, because I figured he would be going over some of last night’s town hall in Kenosha.

Pay close attention to Chris Hayes asking the audience about political correctness after Bernie gave his description. It is around the 2:00 mark.

Chris just had Ta-Neshi Coates on and asked him about that bit. Coates smiled a very wry smile and said (paraphrasing) “well, that brings up some of what we (African Americans) thought about Bernie all along.”

Does that not touch completely what many here at LGF were saying about Bernie all along…that he had a blind spot the African Americans saw clearly and it turned them off?

Why yes, I think it does. And damn, it sure made it clear to me that either Bernie was dancing around the issue last night and didn’t want to say anything about real political correctness, or he has no freaking clue. Both make me wonder WTF Bernie? Did you not learn anything all this time? And if he was dancing to not answer it, is Bernie uncomfortable with race relations or doesn’t want to touch it because it is not popular with his constituents?

Or, does it just prove he was a one note politician and he does in fact only see every issue as economic?

The other thing I noticed…Bernie does not make eye contact with Hayes as he talks. Maybe it is just me, but I don’t trust someone that has shifty eyes. Your mileage may differ.

And yes, I am still breaking down the election to understand it. From all angles…because many still think Bernie would have defeated Trump. Not if he didn’t have the black vote.

Trump is good at making people think he’s agreeing with them, 1 on 1. But of course, he sees speech not as communication, but as persuasion. This is why one of his own law firms said they always had TWO lawyers in any conference with him, because of ‘memory issues’, which pretty clearly meant he’d claim not to remember what he’d told them, or agreed to.

I figure Gore, Gates, Romney, etc. who come out of a meeting and say that it went well and they’re hopeful got rolled.

Not just African Americans but racial minorities in general. He loves to talk about how he’s a proud New Yorker yet he went to one of the whitest states in the Union. He’s definitely got a huge blind spot when it comes to understanding the concerns of racial minorities.

Maybe if he left lily white Vermont, he’d understand why people have a problem with assholes who use their whining about PC as an excuse to be bigoted. Wonder how Bernie would feel if his religious background were used to slur him. Oh wait, Bernie you ran for the nomination of a party that accepts people of all religious or non religious backgrounds unlike those politically incorrect assholes you want us to listen to more than our own party’s base.

Our discussions on race in America suffer from binary, Either/Or worldviews.

On the Right, they cannot accept that White Privilege exists, because to them, saying they have privilege means you think they don’t deserve what they have, and deserving what they have is key to their self-image. Similarly, they can’t accept that they might have racist thoughts, or do racist things, because that makes them A Racist. To them, you’re either A Racist or you’re not. Accusing them of racism is to say they’re A Racist, so they can’t even consider the idea.

On the Left, we have the same problem, but we start from having less racism. But often, not less denial. The same kind of Either/Or thinking results in arguments that go like this:

Black person: Bernie’s okay, but I feel like he thinks all you have to do is make the middle and working classes better off, and racism will take care of itself. I’d like to hear more from him on MY concerns.

BernieBro: Bernie marched with Martin Luther King! How dare you accuse him of not being concerned about black people!!!

He clearly cares about the prestige of being president more than the privilege of being president.

This goes to something I keep wondering about. Since he seems to need constant affirmation of his victory/greatness…would a ton of criticism bring him down?

Would it force him to not do some of things he wants to do and act as a way to go against some of the Republican things like cutting Social Security, privatizing Medicare. If he gets a lot of static and criticism about changing something like Obamacare would he keep it just to be “loved”?

It may be a way to deal with him. Not political…but play with his neediness.

This is why we can’t have nice things. The right wing never stops fighting tooth and nail for what they believe in, and what they believe in is a whole lot of fucked up shit. Democrats apparently don’t know how to do this.

The sentiment among RWNJs in November 2012 after President Obama’s reelection was “let it burn.” They didn’t care about anything… just that they desired to destroy it all, because fuck the voters and fuck the country. Trump is an agent of that nihilist desire.

If the United States survives, it will be a shallow shell of itself, relegated to confederation status. The Republicans may dare California and New York to secede because fuck those two states, it makes the country even redder. Then the dominoes fall.

Does the Republican Party really believe in anything other than taking/keeping power, and cutting taxes and regulation?

We’ve essentially seen the party during and following each election cycle embrace ever more reprehensible methods to the extent that they are now deliberately disenfranchising legal voters and if not outright colluding with at least looking the other way when an unfriendly power influences our elections. If the democrats fought like this, what would we have left?

President Obama on Monday hit a 59 percent approval rating in Gallup’s daily tracking poll—territory he hasn’t seen since July 2009. The president’s approval rating dwarfs that of Donald Trump, who is still under water according to a PPP survey released Friday. It showed just 43 percent view Trump favorably, compared to 51 percent who don’t.

First saw Leon as an opening act for Joe Cocker in 70 or 71, at Winterland or the Fillmore, I think (not every detail of those years is completely clear in my memory, no idea why). Cocker was a major star at the time, and as for Russell, it was like, who? After Leon’s set, though, Joe amounted to an afterthought.

Brian Williams on MSNBC just put up a tweet from Katy Tur that speculated Trump brought in Kanye West to distract from the flapadoodle over Russia and Turkey.

Earlier, MSNBC speculated that Rex Tillerson might face opposition for a reason that first derailed a Clinton nomination. Rex Tillerson has four children, and lives in Texas. He is rich enough to hire a nanny or maid.

What derailed that Clinton nomination was the point that his nominee did not pay Social Security taxes for an undocumented immigrant.

The question of Social Security taxes for domestic employees has come up in every nomination hearing since.

Of course, today the mantra is “It’s Okay if You’re a Republican,” so we’ll have to see. I’ll bet at least some Democrats are looking into it.

They also expect to see censorship, misrepresentation, and minimization of new government-funded research, specifically regarding climate change.”

……….
“…With the Trump presidency looming, many scientists who studied Bush’s policies are starting a mad dash to preserve climate science that has been made available under President Obama based on fears that it might no longer be publicly accessible. Several professors I spoke to say that officials who work for the government’s science departments are privately imploring researchers outside the government to download what they can now, or risk losing access to it later.”

Hunter’s take (bold mine):
It is likely, according to me, that Jones is attempting to scrub links to his own “pizzagate” content because he knows being the identified source of a conspiracy theory cited by a gun-toting lunatic entering a restaurant to “investigate” those wild claims makes it Extremely Really Super Damn Likely that he is about to be sued for every penny Comet’s lawyers can wring from his greasy hide.

Godspeed, you lawyers. Godspeed.

It’s okay if you’re a Republican.

Traditionally, ambassadorships have gone to wealthy people who are friends or supporters of the incumbent President.

When Barack Obama was elected, wingnuts went off the rails about everything from golf to community activism.

Now that Mr. Obama is on the way out, the old rules about ambassadors are back in force, and apparently the GOP is going to extend that to every other position.

I’m going to sign out, as we have a visitor. Catch y’all later.
