Racist mass murderer convicted of all charges
Crime • Views: 54,817

Dylann Storm Roof, who confessed that he was radicalized into white supremacism by articles he read on the Internet, has been found guilty of all federal charges in the horrific 2015 massacre at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Journalist Alan Blinder posted the complete list of charges, many of which carry a possible death penalty:

Sighed in relief that he got the full convictions for each. My cynicism has been driven upward enough that it felt in doubt still.

I hope he rots in a cell for a long long time.

Son of a bitch! A white murderer actually CAN be convicted of murdering a black person.

As long as he’s not a cop.

He can still write for Breitbart from jail. Or, maybe throw in with George Zimmerman and Chuck Floorshitter for a new business venture.

Needed some good news. I expect the usual idiots to be out calling him a hero and a martyr and the usual nastiness, but I don’t care. Dylan Roof is going to be permanently removed from the racial hate gene pool.

I just flashed back to the vigil at the AME church (in MB, not Charleston) the week after the murders. Through all the anguish and righteous anger, there was a tremendous expression of forgiveness—the final pastor to speak said something like (paraphrased) “He is a young man, and perhaps he can be redeemed and come to understand how wrong he was.”

I was not that understanding and think he is a hateful, racist punk, but I was moved by the kindness and thoughtfulness of the AME community, and struck by how very polar opposite is the reaction on the right-wing to, well, anything and everything that happens.

Thanks for the reminder. And it would not surprise me if many of them opposed the death penalty, even for him. I do, even though (short of his killing my family) he is as extreme an example as you can find. Put him in a cell next to Charles Manson.

Twitter’s ability to openly interact with people — regardless if they follow you or not — is fundamentally flawed from the outset.

Facebook has more than their share of harassment issues (Rage Furby, etc.), but once you block someone… they are 100% blocked. If you mute or block someone on Twitter, they still show up in the feeds of others that aren’t muted/blocked.

The “protecting your tweets” option — forcing others who want to follow you to have you approve them first — needs to be mandatory.

Sometimes I despair, because we’re fighting an asymmetrical war. The asymmetry is that they have no shame, no limits. They’re not tied to reality or honesty in any way. And they’re totally willing to do things we wouldn’t.

An effective response to someone doxxing someone else might be to not only doxx them, but actually show up at THEIR home, in significant numbers. Call THEIR home phones. Send THEM pictures of their homes.

But we and they know we won’t do that, and any of us who did would be castigated for it.

Honestly part of the reason I don’t Tweet is because of what’s said. When I briefly used Twitter, I got really spooked by complete strangers following me. On Facebook, I have more control. As for Milo, I heard he recently mocked a transgendered student at one of his campus events. That guy is such a pathetic asshole.

More than 1,500 organizers, leaders and activists gathered in Las Vegas in mid-November for the Membership Development conference, the largest annual gathering of IBEW members.
The November Membership Development conference brought together 1,500 IBEW members, leaders and organizers to look back at a year of successes and plan for a year challenges and opportunities.

The conference was the first large IBEW meeting since the November election saw the defeat of many IBEW supported candidates, and International President Lonnie Stephenson addressed that from the opening gavel.

“Last week was hard and a lot of you are asking, ‘What do we do now?’ Here’s what we do.” Stephenson said. “We organize like hell.”

snip

For the third year in a row, the IBEW is growing. “A” membership -largely construction members, but open to all IBEW members— is at a record high.

Organizing victories at Asplundh alone have brought in thousands of new members and, right before the conference kicked off, the IBEW scored one of the largest manufacturing wins in the right-to-work South in recent memory at Electrolux in Memphis, Tenn.

“If we can win there, I am not afraid of anybody,” Oakland said. “The challenges have been and will certainly be formidable, but there is good news: our future is in our hands and always has been. And the IBEW is growing.”

Laws may change, Oakland said. At least three states -New Hampshire, Kentucky and Missouri—are expected to pass some kind of right-to-work legislation. But Stephenson and Oakland laid out a strategy to not only keep the IBEW growing, but accelerate the growth to meet the targets set at the 39th IBEW Convention in September.

The big point though about Trump’s tweets is it doesn’t matter if he’s literally typing them or not. They are in his name. It’s a lot like that bigoted newsletter that Ron Paul had, he tried to argue that he didn’t write it, well Ron it was published in your name. I write a monthly newsletter on small business for my boss. He doesn’t write it himself since he has other responsibilities but he looks over it before we publish it.

A former Texas elector said this week that he and others had faced threats for refusing to cast their votes for President-elect Donald Trump.

After the election last month, Art Sisneros announced that he was resigning as an elector because he did not think Trump was “biblically qualified” to be president.

Sisneros revealed in an interview published by Texas Monthly on Tuesday that Christopher Suprun, an elector who lives in Dallas, faced violent threats after he said that he would cast his vote for “an honorable and qualified man or woman such as Gov. John Kasich of Ohio.”

According to Sisneros, Suprun asked him to share one of the threats in a Facebook post earlier this month.

“You vote for Trump or we rape your wife and daughters with a knife before we kill you. Do as told or face consequences,” the threat warned.

Do we know how many electors have resigned or been forcibly removed/replaced?

I’ve only heard of the one elector in Texas that resigned

I sometimes stick a post-it to the screen of my smartphone so I will see it. Does that count?

Wife does Smartphones and iPads. If I can see well enough to make the leap to digital cameras using iOS and Near-Field Radio interfaces, I will to. There needs to be a reason.

Sort of. I got my project redeployed, but I don’t have my car back and I don’t even have license plates for it yet. Turns out I managed to do $550 of damage to it, which is pretty impressive for the complete lack of visible destruction.

Telling the world you were beat up by a girl must be the most self-humiliating thing an alpha-male like Scottie could possibly do.

It’s all part of his upcoming VH1 reality show, “Scott Baio is 56 and Got Beat Up by a Girl!”

The medic who took care of me on the helicopter 2 years ago picked up his and his wife’s bikes a year ago next week. I was thinking about this last night. I realize it takes guts to be in a helicopter regularly for any reason, but this guy entrusted his bikes to the TBI he picked up 6 months earlier. That’s GUTS. (The timing may look off, but I had the bikes here for 7 months.)

I think I’ll call and offer a free tune up. I hope they’ve gotten some use.

This is why people on our side should boycott NBC (including MSNBC). They knew about the Billy Bush video and never released it. Goodness knows what other videos of Trump they’ve suppressed.

After the election, I stopped watching all mainstream news and don’t feel like I’m missing anything. If I need pro-Trump propaganda, I might as well watch Fox News.

Both of us did as well. I do not miss a single second of it. I read the news daily. That’s enough for me. Television “news” is anything but. Walter Cronkite and Peter Jennings are spinning in their graves - along with the founding fathers. I am shocked the Earth is not off its axis.
