I first heard this tune performed by Umphrey’s McGee. It’s one of their rarest covers.

This is a gorgeous rendition.

Dear 2016, I’m Leaving You Baby…..

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble - I’m Leaving You (Commit A Crime)

I’m leavin’ you woman
Before I commit some crime
I’m leavin’ you woman
Before I commit a crime
You the evilest woman
I think ever crossed my mind

You put poison in my coffee
Instead of milk or cream
You poison my coffee
In with that milk and cream
You’re the meanest woman
I think I’ve most ever seen

You mix my drink
With a can of Red Devil lye
You mix my drink
With a can of Red Devil lye
Then you sit right down
Watchin’ me, hopin’ I might die

You better be watchin’ me baby
Baby it was not my time
You better be watchin’ me baby
Just might be your time

From the tag end of the last thread:

re: #252 Romantic Heretic

What’s a ‘cheque’?

a) What my computer puts in for “check.” (My computer is set for Canadian English because my publisher is in British Columbia.)

b) It’s that piece of paper you fill in to pay a debt, which is processed through your bank. Someday it might be replaced by science-fictiony things like a plastic card with your banking data stored on it (I hear they have these things in some more advanced areas of the world).

If Trump is so skeptical about the Iraqi intel, why did he bring so many unabashed Iraq supporters into his team? I’m sorry but using “They were wrong on Iraq” to bash the findings is bullshit. Not to mention, he literally asked them to hack for him. And he has offered nothing but unadultered praise of Putin’s Russia. In fact, I don’t think he’s criticized Putin once. He’s certainly praised Putin more than Clinton or Obama.

“California and Arizona dominate U.S. production. California accounted for 71 percent of U.S. head lettuce production in 2013, followed by Arizona producing nearly 29 percent. These states also produce over 98 percent of the leaf lettuce in the U.S.”

Three things from this statement should chill any rational person to the core of his bones.

[And] I know a lot about hacking.
And hacking is a very hard thing to prove. So it could be somebody else.
And I know things that other people don’t know.

We can glean one of two things from this statement.
One, Donald Trump is talking out of his ass. I’m inclined to discount this one because of the sheer volume of smokescreen that the Trump team is throwing on this in an attempt to discourage any further investigation.
Two. Donald Trump knows a LOT more about the Russian hacking than he is admitting to - that third statement is pretty much an admission that he’s privy to information that even the intelligence community and FBI probably know about. And he’s pretty much daring them to prove that he’s behind it.

Since I’m babbling tonight let me tell you a cute story. I was delivering a load in Vermont, just a short jaunt from the New York line, Fairhaven VT I think. Back in the early 90’s. Anyhow, I’m in the liquor outlet and there is a Quebecer driver in there who just dropped where I did and he was buying up like 500 bucks worth of vodka to smuggle back into Quebec. He had his space under his sleeper all rigged out. Clean neat setup. I was impressed. I used to smuggle cigarettes into Ontario. He bought like at 7 bucks US a litre well stock and sold at 3 or 4 time that price because the taxes in Quebec were obscene. So in walks a little old lady between us, and she walks over to the help and asks; “Do you carry Wild Irish Rosé “? And she said “Rosé .” If you don’t know Wild Irish Rose, you never was looking at a buck 25 in your pocket and a desperate need to get hammered. Not a Rosé . No. Nope. Uh uh. I thought it was a scream. “Yes, and I’d like to see a, what do you call it. A, Driver? Oh, I know. Orange Driver. In the plastic bottle. In case I fall.”
Hoots.

A nice long read from the Minneapolis Start-Tribune: Will civilization destroy science?

A CASE HISTORY: Otto Schmitt at an electrocardiogram board in 1948. Schmitt and his wife, Viola, established a field of inquiry combining biology and physics at the University of Minnesota. They worked as a team — Otto connecting ideas and technologies and Viola collecting the detailed data necessary to produce useful results. Would their efforts be welcomed today given current attitudes toward science?

“Will science, during 1947, uncover new instruments to push civilization closer to the precipice of destruction?”

“How will researchers in the field of physics — who developed the atomic bomb — fare in the New Year?”

The Minneapolis Star posed these questions on New Year’s Day, 1947, as the world was still emerging from the long shadow of World War II.

Exactly 70 years later, what questions preoccupy us about the role and future of science?

I’m back. BOINC’s update crashed my computer so hard I had to do a system restore to the previous save point.

I’m guessing the answer from SETI’s aliens is “hell no, and if you contact us again we’ll blow up your computer again.”

It turned out that a particular font installed in the BOINC program was being called out as “in use” (despite BOINC being halted), and a file the reinstall program required was deleted halfway through the uninstall routine (so it borked).

I just finished up this sweet little rose gold filled Lord Elgin watch from 1941. What do I mean by little? Well, here it is on the right, compared to a mens watch from 1962, and another from 2016. Each is about average size for the watches of their era. And yeah, the little rose number really IS a man’s watch!

Folks who just get into vintage watches often say, “But they’re so SMALL! I couldn’t wear a watch that small! I’d feel silly!”

The margarita recipe here at casa klys is:

1.5oz tequila (currently we are using something better than the cheap stuff but as I really know shit about tequila all I can tell you is it was a reasonable bottle and it’s the not-aged variety. I think.)
1oz lime juice
1oz Cointreau Noir (this is what got finished - Cointreau with cognac mixed in)
0.5oz agave syrup

Nomnomnom.

My drink for NYE was beer. We started with run-of-the-mill Chinese beer, then graduated to Tsingtao (Qingdao), which is somewhat better. Lisa, who is the foreign affairs officer at a local high school, brought a bottle of rum someone gave her six months ago. Lisa doesn’t drink hard liquor, a very typical thing for Chinese women, and anyway she said she had no idea what to do with the rum.

Some of the party drank rum and Cokes, but I stayed with beer so I could (1) find my way home and (2) not puke.

The international party included two Americans, a couple of Englishmen, a Welshman and a Ukrainian, plus an assortment of Chinese students and non-students. We played stupid games and had fun. Some of us also hit a local bar for hookah and overpriced drinks, but I still stuck with beer. (I did partake of the hookah, though. One lives only once.) I left the bar pretty quickly because of the cigarette smoke and overly loud music, and to rejoin the original party before 00:00 came.

Also there are a lot of Lizards about to skewer you for the “old’ comment. I suggest ducking.

I’m already ducking. I’m in the best mental shape of my life though. Feeling pretty good about myself. Need to loes some weight but emotionally I feel great. Having a job has done wonders for me.

Happy New Years guys. I turn 30 this year. I’m getting old but I actually feel pretty good.

Thirty? Get off my lawn.

You’re just over half my age. If I weren’t already married, and was a lot less ethical than I am (and a lot richer), I might join the Party of Family Values (tm) and take on another wife. (Well, that is, if you are a woman, I don’t really know from your name, and in fact I am not interested in splitting time with my wife, and this whole comment suddenly went sideways… .)

It’s a New York thing. My mom did it only once, when she was in her 20s. Not sure about my dad, but he was unlikely to have wanted to. As for me, I’ve not done it yet. Living 7,500 miles away is one problem.

I’d do it once, just to say I’ve done it as a native New Yorker. It’s more fun with some friends to share the crazy experience.

That said, people come hours ahead of time just to stake out a place. That part makes it less appealing, but hey! With global warming, it might not be so cold in the future!

I ask myself that same question. I was in Sydney for NYE 2008 and while others wanted to be near the Sydney Harbour Bridge, I was out at Bondi Beach instead. Seeing Underworld perform for 2 hours and welcoming the new year on a beach with their iconic “Born Slippy” tune is something that can never be topped.

That’s also why I stay in for NYE nowadays since it’s hard to top that for me.

I’m also an introvert, and staying at home for NYE was a serious option. But I was invited out to a party, and I know from experience that once I get out, I have a great time. As for Times Square, I think I’d try it even without a coterie of friends, because you can always make new ones.

A programming note for Mr. Johnson about how LGF behaves on my computer.

Currently I have two tabs open in Firefox: one for LGF and one for Wonkette.

On the left of the title of the LGF tab normally appears the number of new comments since I last looked (if it is not open).

However, when there are no new comments, I get Windows 10’s spinning “busy” circle.

It’s not annoying or anything, I just noticed that the other day and thought “hmmm.”

On the other hand, the summation of my programming ability is the good old BASIC program:

10 Print “LGF”

Wonkette reminds people of Rod Serling dystopian futures from the “Twilight Zone,” including this gem from the episode “He’s Alive” (where the ghost of Hitler teaches a person to become a leader, although in that episode the person did not win the election). Serling’s closing for the episode:

“Where will he go next, this phantom from another time, this resurrected ghost of a previous nightmare - Chicago? Los Angeles? Miami, Florida? Vincennes, Indiana? Syracuse, New York? Anyplace, everyplace, where there’s hate, where there’s prejudice, where there’s bigotry. He’s alive. He’s alive so long as these evils exist. Remember that when he comes to your town. Remember it when you hear his voice speaking out through others. Remember it when you hear a name called, a minority attacked, any blind, unreasoning assault on a people or any human being. He’s alive because through these things we keep him alive.”

I voted for Sanders in the caucuses in my state, which he won overwhelmingly. That said, when it became obvious that Sanders had no realistic chance, I switched to Hillary Clinton and became an avid supporter. In truth, there wasn’t a whole lot of difference between their voting records in the Senate, and a large part of Sanders’s platform was adopted by the Democratic Party.

I’m guessing that is the best way to view Senator Sanders. He sometimes gets lost on his pet hobby horse project (the 1%).

I’m right with the Senator on how many of the very wealthiest in our nation are trying to rig the game in their favour (even if Donald Trump invented the word “rigged”). That is not the only issue the nation faces, however.

His work on veterans affairs is exemplary, which is why both the VFW and the American Legion cited him for that work (the VFW gave him their Congressional Award for advocacy for veterans).

Gotta call around to find out what’s going on with the village board meeting.

We meet on the first Monday of the month. However, New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday; as such, in accordance with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act signed under President Nixon, the officially observed holiday is January 2 (the date the board meeting should take place).

If you have government or banking business to take care of, you might note that Jan 2 is a Federal holiday and that place will likely be closed.

As for the only leftie politician holding office in a ninety thousand square mile area, I need to find out if I should show up for work Monday night, or if that is postponed to another day. No one told me anything, so my working proposition is we will still meet January 2.

At that point, I take up the new mantle of Chairman Pro-Tempore (vice mayor) of my town. (Target will be painted on me at that time.)

It is a stereotype I am not comfortable with.

Every banker is not a crook, every politician is not corrupt, every lawyer is not a liar, &c. I am not partial to stereotyping any group.

I understand broad brush strokes are sometimes useful in a political campaign, but demonising everyone who is a banker, or a politician, or a lawyer, or the head of a corporation will not win you friends.

Exactly and honestly they’re not all living the high life either. One of my cousins works on Wall Street. Yes, she has a better living than I do but she’s not exactly a fat cat. As I said, Sanders need to realize that a lot of people on Wall Street are just trying to make ends meet. It’s not what I’d for my living but Bernie seems to view them all how like Republicans do federal workers and I think that’s a reckless way of viewing it. The executives? I can get that but but there’s a lot of rank and file people who work on Wall Street who I have no problem welcoming to our party.

I am enjoying the idea of uberbillionaire David Koch being kicked off of Hair Furor’s golf course, as if he were some unwelcome commoner…lol! Oh boy, there’s so much to unpack from this one event…

- Hair Furor is exercising his new power as the Most Powerful ‘Billionaire’ on Earth and letting Koch know that compared to Hair Furor, he’s a pathetic failure.

- Hair Furor has few (if any) real friends in the World of the Wealthy since they have pretty much socially snubbed the pathetic boor. Now that he’s in charge of the world, it’s his chance to snub them right back and Koch is just the start.

- Koch has to be seething at being treated like this.

- Trumphumpers are going to be ecstatic that Hair Furor is smacking down a wealthy git. ignoring the implications of this behavior.

I’ll leave the rest on the table for everyone else to think of and chew on. Happy New Year…lol! Savor…

Hurt’s Facebook post says that Trump “had his security detail escort Hurt, Koch, and their playing partners to the parking lot,” and that Koch “was appalled,” and criticized Trump as “petty” and “vulgar.”

Yeah! I felt that when I first lost weight. But I realized my long term health was better off. I have had a bit to drink tonight but I haven’t been mixing so that’s good. I’m hoping that 2017 can be a good year politics be damned.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. My tolerance was …..way higher than it should have been. A reset down is good and I’m overall happy with it, or will be more so once I’ve figured out where the limits are.

The relearning process has just been painful. Literally.

Yeah gotta know limits. I feel more comfortable finding a balance than I did in the past. I think it’s because I understand myself better than I did then.

Edibles take practice, they give a very strong body rush that can make people uncomfortable. a good dose to start is about 15 mg of thc, a third of a square of the chocolate bar I have. I ate a whole square. Smoking is much safer and a more accurate way to titrate the dose to ones desired high. I like edibles, but knowing the dosage is important and practice, practice, practice.

Savor…

Expect the Kock’s to pick up some of Hair Furor’s many loans and embarrass the shit out of Hair Furor.

When I was living in Denver I lived a block away from a dispensary, so any kind of whatever was easy to come by. I remember my first brownie. Foolishly I ate the whole thing and became quite stoned for four or five hours. No panic reactions or anything like that (I’m a fully certified Colorado Ski Bum, I’m experienced in the ways of cannabis) but it was still pretty crazy. These days I enjoy a cannabis-infused sarsaparilla about once a month, which in a 12 oz. bottle contains about 25 mg of THC, which is a perfect amount for a few hours of Umphrey’s McGee through my headphones.

Working in a ski shop in Beaver Creek, CO, the most popular question by adults was about our cannabis situation. The local paper made it easy for us to answer. I’d hand the paper to the customer and simply point them to the very last page, which is nothing but ads for cannabis dispensaries, including some that picks up their customers in a limousine, brings them to the store, and drives them back, and you can smoke in the limo too.

Most of the dispensaries in my county are located on a two-mile section of Highway 6 in an unincorporated part of the county. It’s now referred to as “The Green Mile.”

I fear Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III may put an end to all that.

Best wishes for the new year to all the Lizards, or at least the best we can hope for. May we all survive to toast the next one. The BBC has an article about a condition long-known but only recently described, called aphantasia.

bbc.com

This condition involves the inability to recall or imagine scenes or images, such as a sunset, a vista, or a person’s face. It is directly involved in the inability of some people to recall people’s faces even if they have known them for years.

Exeter University in the United Kingdom is looking for volunteers for a study into the issue. If you are interested, the contact point is in the BBC article.

All of my life I have been aware of this problem in myself: I cannot right now picture my wife’s face even though we have been married over ten years; I cannot picture my mother’s face though she has been in my life half a century. I cannot picture the landscape around my village even though I have lived here since 2011. Sites like the iconic Chimney Rock or Scott’s Bluff are blanks. Though I have driven to Cheyenne many times, I cannot bring forth an image of the Rocky Mountains visible around the city.

The article has a screening quiz to determine if you might be suitable for the study: I have my result from that pasted below. The article is interesting, and if you are interested in taking Exeter University’s quiz it can be found there.

Approximately 5% of people fall into this, the lowest, score band. Your score suggests that your visual imagery is less rich than usual. You may lack visual imagery, the state scientists have described as aphantasia, particularly if your score is toward the lower end of the band. If you would like to be included in the research at Exeter University you can contact them through this email: a.zeman@exeter.ac.uk.
Your score:
9/40

Nebraska and Oklahoma are suing Colorado with the claims that:
a) Cannabis is illegal under Federal regulations, and
b) Colorado is causing an epidemic of cannabis smuggling into our states.

Oklahoma’s attorney general protested filing such a claim to Gov. Mary Fallin, on the grounds that Colorado could retaliate over Oklahoma’s loose gun laws; Gov. Fallin told him to proceed with the case.

Here in Nebraska, I guess the governor likes wasting money; it’s not like there wasn’t cannabis in Nebraska before Colorado made it legal there.

Our state floated the idea of closing every agricultural road that crosses the state line between Nebraska and Colorado, to make patrolling the nine paved roads that do much easier. Farmers and ranchers protested the state government’s proposal, noting that would create undue burdens on their operations.

As for state checkpoints, Nebraska also considered allowing private individuals with guns to patrol the state line. That was shot down in the Uincameral.

The state does set up the occasional checkpoint on I-76 and other paved roads, but more relies on stopping people doing things that are otherwise against the law to toss a car to look for smuggled cannabis.

For those that live here and are aware of where the gravel and dirt roads go across the state line, avoiding such checkpoints and such would be trivial; they only catch people who are not from around here.

There’s not much that can be done to keep Colorado cannabis in Colorado, so border police are especially vigilant. Oklahoma and Nebraska have sued the state of Colorado, citing the taxing of their law enforcement on the border and the huge influx of cannabis into their communities. The case is still pending.

I’ve read several stories of Colorado cannabis making its way into other states. I say whatever. Better the cannabis comes from legitimate Colorado businesses than a cartel in Mexico.

308
Anymouse  Jan 1, 2017 • 12:27:37am

More on the local hair-on-fire complaints from my state about cannabis in Colorado:

Nebraska has a long state border with Colorado (between the Panhandle and the southwest corner of the state), but as I mentioned above, only nine paved roads cross that border.

The Nebraska State Patrol and county sheriff departments have looked for cannabis and other drugs long before Colorado made recreational maryjane legal; much of what police departments are doing around here is whining (increased funding? liberal hippies besides me invading our safe space? don’t know what they are on about).

As more states pass such laws making cannabis legal and taxing and regulating it, the whole conservative argument seems to be another losing rearguard action.

Two years ago, my wife and I attended a conference in Denver, where one of the speakers was the attorney for Denver. He was speaking about the (then new) laws surrounding cannabis (amongst other topics, though cannabis got the most questions from the audience) and how Colorado wanted “to get it right.”

I have no doubt that the feds cold push Oregon into prohibition again. The state commitment to the law isn’t there, they are just complying with it. If law enforcement and some in government could change it and blame the feds, I think they would do it.

My calendar may say 2017, but my state screams 1957, so you’re good.

I was through there during May of 1980… that’s a flat state! I was hitchhiking across the country after deciding that staying in Spokane, WA after Mt. St. Helens had coated it wasn’t an option and upstate NY was looking pretty good (family there). Had fun trying to avoid breathing mosquitoes at a park near Grand Island, rolling joints using a Frisbee as a tray while hauling ass as a passenger in the back of a 68 GTO on back roads through cornfields near Beatrice and discovering what Nebraska No-High was as I was leaving the state (saw it growing next to the Interstate and asked). During the cornfield run in the GTO, a duck that was startled flew up from the side of the road and bounced off of the windshield at 80 MPH, upper left corner, and it didn’t break it.

My comment while watching the duck ricochet off of the car and endo through the air had everyone choking with laughter, “I don’t think they normally fly that way.”

re: #304 Resistance Is Not Futile

There was a discussion of it here sometime not too long ago, in connection with this article. As I recall, at least one lizard said, “hey, that’s me!” (I can’t find our discussion, though.)

I just read that article. That guy sounds just like me.

I don’t remember dreams, or don’t dream. I can’t remember what my hometown in Michigan looks like, even the house I grew up in. I can’t even remember what the town I live in now looks like.

I can remember facts about all these things. I know my town has 124 people and my town in Michigan 192. I can find my home in my hometown (my cousin lives there now) because I can remember the directions to get there. (I once did that with my father’s home in Chicopee, Massachusetts when I was a Navy recruiter in Pittsfield, driving to Chicpoee and remembered all the directions from my bloody childhood.)

I was through there during May of 1980… that’s a flat state! (rest cut for brevity)

Well, the area around Grand Island you note is certainly flat, but this part of Nebraska certainly is not. (Between the Sandhills, the bluffs, and in the west of the Panhandle where you can see the Rocky Mountains it ain’t flat.)

Or watch MADAME SECRETARY for a take on more current world events — equally depressing.

I still can’t get over that we undemocratically selected someone for the position of President who is art best a Russian puppet, at worst a Russian mole, and we’re letting it happen because of what exactly?, Because we’re afraid of farting in public? Because gentlemen let barbarians rape their family rather than raise their voices?

The fight against neofascism moves to France and Germany in 2017. Not optimistic.

The OECD published a nonpartisan report about post-Brexit Britain in 2030 (can’t seem to link to it); it’s a depressing read but well worth perusing. Trump’s impact is virtually impossible to quantify right now, but my gut feeling is that it’s going to be at least as bad and probably worse.

I came in on I-80, from the west, and stuck to it until Lincoln (nice town, hung out there for a couple of days with some cool people), then headed south to Beatrice and then eastward to Misery, I mean Missouri. ;)

Oh yeah, where do you live? Because the few cops I know here in Vegas are dim bulbs, and I can see them thinking the same.

I live in a tiny village in the Nebraska Panhandle.

This was interesting enough I posted it to the atheist forum I run at Yahoo Groups:

huffingtonpost.com

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, seems to have found religious faith. His Facebook profile (I am not on Facebook along with four other people on Earth) long listed him as an atheist. He was raised Jewish.

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has eschewed his atheist beliefs and now asserts that “religion is very important.”

Zuckerberg, whose Facebook profile once identified him as an atheist, revealed his change of heart on his social media network after he wished everyone on Dec. 25 a “Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah” from “Priscilla, Max, Beast and me,” referring to his wife, daughter and dog. When a commenter asked him, “Aren’t you an atheist?” he responded: “No. I was raised Jewish and then I went through a period where I questioned things, but now I believe religion is very important.”

More at Huffington Post

He didn’t provide details about his faith. The title of his holiday greeting on Facebook was “celebrating Christmas.”

Failing grade to the writer of the first paragraph of this piece: Atheism is not a belief. It is a lack of belief.

I’ll go to my grave insisting that Clinton’s candidacy would have been just the administrative steady hand Obama’s legacy required, that she ran a tight and self-aware campaign that tried to exploit the obvious weaknesses of her opponent and build an outreach to wobbling Republicans, that she hit the right notes on inclusivity and hope, never ran away from the coalition Obama built, was genuinely progressive (whatever the BoBers might say) and that she would have made an excellent president.

Savor…

Yet another indicator of Trump’s incompetence: He may actually succeed in turning the Koch brothers into heroes of the popular resistance.

We are apparently hard wired to hang onto what we know and believe like grim death. I applaud you for being able to accept new facts and change your mind-but it is hard, isn’t it? I’ve changed my mind on a few major things over the years and it is hard, even when the “thing” in question doesn’t have any deep roots in identity or world view.

I grew up thinking a cut would heal best if kept clean and dry and out in the open air. Why? My mother told me that. Fast forward to a few years ago…my daughter the doctor tells me that cuts heal better when covered and kept moist. I say really? She says yes and when she heard that she had to go research it a bit because she believed me all those years growing up.
So, medical knowledge changes. Mom was born in 1916 and back in her formative years, that was the medical opinion, but somewhere in the last century that “fact” changed and even my daughter was skeptical enough of new information to have to look it up and check on it. I now cover cuts with a bandaid after the application of a little Neosporin or some such.

I deleted that tweet about the election of Trump being America’s worst mistake, because I immediately got piled on by people lecturing me about things they considered worse mistakes, and many of them were insulting about it. If you leave a tweet up that people are determined to take offense about, the piling on never stops.

Apparently this is supposed to be evidence that I’m blinded by white privilege because slavery is a much worse “mistake.” Well, first - the reason why I call the election of Trump a horrible mistake in the first place is because of his attacks on people of color, and his xenophobic rhetoric against Mexicans, Muslims, and others.

Second, is it right to classify slavery as a “mistake?” It was a horrible atrocity, and an enormous violation of human rights and morality, but “mistake” doesn’t seem to apply in my opinion. It wasn’t a mistake, it was the deliberate exploitation of human beings as property, and the US wasn’t the only nation that did it. It’s been a constant throughout human history. Calling it a “mistake” not only minimizes it, it’s a misuse of the word.

Anyway, I had to get that rant off my chest but there’s no point trying to explain this on Twitter while the outrage addicts are swarming at you. Easier to just delete the tweet, even though I don’t think it was wrong.

I wonder if the big name journalists and networks will ever wake up to the fact that they’re constantly being played. No matter what you do, if your coverage of Trump isn’t fawning sycophancy, he’ll attack you as “Fake news! Totally biased! Sad!” in public, even if you hire a bunch of his shills. Then, if he meets you in private, he’ll be friendly and say nice things about you.

Neither one is true. It’s all just to gain an advantage.

His contentious Twitter posts belie his relative calm when he is at Mar-a-Lago compared with when he is isolated inside Trump Tower. Mr. Trump’s combative public persona — often on display during his campaign — mostly dissolves behind the carved-stone walls of his castle.

I’ve been waking up with a sinus pressure headache on a regular basis recently (mild and goes away after getting up, occasionally I take some ibuprofen for it) and today was no exception.

And now I am sitting and stitching, because it’s a nice relaxing way to start my day. And my year. I’ve brainstormed a few goals that I’m going to work toward this year (not resolutions, just goals) and looking at cross stitch stuff. We’ll go see Rogue One …tomorrow, I think, and mr. klys wants to make bagels tonight.

Fortunately it’s not quite over at my daughter’s house because we will gather there for the family gift exchange this afternoon, which isn’t a huge deal this year because we mostly did donations, a little wine, and dinner. And catching up on life-which is the important part.

Resolve to set aside more stitching time!

I don’t do specific resolutions either. Goals are good, and they can be set at any time of the year. The new year is always a good time to take a look at them, though.

I tend to live and die with my weekly calendar/to-do list which works fine for the essentials of life, but I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate my fiber-arts type goals/inspirations/progress. I’m beginning to suspect that that is a totally separate notebook with a few specifics cross-referenced to the weekly planner. I was doing so well at reducing the number of random pieces of paper floating around-now I need a whole new binder? Really?

Ah, but you would be reducing the random pieces of paper floating around. They’d all be in the binder. Binders don’t float.

I keep one notebook that’s for the to do list, one that’s more general and can be rearranged (sort of like a binder …not sure where it is right now, need to find it…), and am debating adding a third. In part for things like stitching stuff. Need more creative things outside of the writing to recharge the writing batteries.

re: #454 klys (maker of Silmarils)

Actually, I’m somewhat of a binder addict. For many, many years I’ve had a half sheet size binder with a Day Timer type week on 2 pages layout with a space for monthly to-do lists, and sections in the back for things I want to read, gift ideas, stuff relevant to taxes, and so forth. I used to have a separate to-do list, because years ago it was too cluttered if I had all that on the page with what the whole family was doing. Since my younger child is now 34 it occurred to me that the to-dos would easily go on the calendar pages, and indeed they do.

For other stuff, there is the household maintenance notebook (when stuff was done, what paint was used (with samples) for each room, etc. There is a notebook with copies of the pattern envelopes for my most used sewing patterns and yardage amounts needed, and samples of the fabric I’ve used for my clothes, as well as anything in my stash. And recipe notebooks…

No binders full of women, though.

Maybe it’s got stuff in the way? The old Shelby 427 Cobras apparently had to have the engine partially removed to reach the plugs at the back.

My father had a Mustang back in the 1960s. We had to pull the engine to change the plugs in that.

And you were probably supposed to at least check the spark plugs and adjust the gap if needed every 3,000 miles.

We passed mostly south of Nebraska this time so I waved to Anymouse out of the left side window.

I just got done changing the oil on my 2010 Corolla. Imagine my delight the first time in 2010 I rolled it up my ramps, drained the case, and realized I needed a “special oil filter socket”. Huh? Huh? And my wife has the other car about 50 miles away………..and now it’s raining….

Sorry, I got triggered. I listened to Steve Martin’s “Let’s get small” about 5,000 times when I was in middle school.
