Trump’s “Chief Strategist” Bannon Says the Best Thing About Breitbart Is the Comments Section

Praising a sewer of mindless hatred and racism
Politics • Views: 57,097

The chief strategist of Donald Trump’s incoming presidential administration is former Breitbart “News” CEO Stephen Bannon, and in a recent interview he made a very revealing statement. Bannon praised the comments section at Breitbart.

Yes, he praised one of the worst sewers of racism and hate speech on the web.

In his interview Friday, Bannon repeatedly praised Breitbart, crediting its website and radio shows for “following this [movement] and reporting on it for years.”

“We’ve lived through an historic time,” he said. “I think they’ll talk about what happened in this year politically for many, many decades to come.”

He told Breitbart’s audience that he “really” misses them and looks forward to chatting with Breitbart again “early in 2017.”

Bannon said the best things about Breitbart are the comments section and the callers.

We’ve been writing about the boiling toxic stew in the Breitbart comments section for years, while the media and most other blogs and news sites ignored it. Many people told me to ignore these comments too.

But I knew all along that we were seeing something truly disturbing growing and gaining strength in the right wing world — an open embrace of bizarre conspiracy theories, Birtherism, and the kind of ugly white supremacist ideology that was previously kept under wraps and considered unacceptable in society.

When Andrew Breitbart was alive, he actually seemed to understand that this wasn’t something he should be proud of; in those days, the people who ran the site used to make at least some attempt to moderate the comments section and keep it from getting too out of control. Oh, don’t get me wrong — they still encouraged extremism and racism, but this was still a time when they felt they had to keep it at least nominally hidden from view.

But since the advent of Bannon and his nurturing of the “alt-right” movement, the racism and hatred has completely taken over and they’re not trying to hide it any more. On the contrary, Bannon and his crew of cynical exploiters have weaponized this degraded right wing mentality, and turned it into a tool to help elect a president.

I believe this was a deliberate strategy, and it was aided by the fact that the hatred Breitbart was cultivating was so extreme and repulsive that journalists and liberals didn’t even want to look at it; instead, they talked themselves into believing it was something they could safely ignore. And what a huge mistake that turned out to be.

Here’s an example to illustrate this point; a couple of days ago, Breitbart had a post about the discovery of bodies of 61 human smuggling victims in Brooks County, Texas.

And here are just a few of the nearly 400 comments for this post, hidden by default because the ugliness is almost unbelievable; and this is just from the first few pages. This is what Breitbart “News” has created, and the people who did this will soon be in charge of the United States.

I suggest land mines

[…]

Ok, ok, it’s a start!

[…]

A good start I guess.

[…]

Just put the bodies in a truck and dump them on the other side of the border.

[…]

Catapult them back over the boarder.

[…]

I tried but I dont give a s#%t

[…]

That’s a whole new approach to Bingo.

[…]

BUILD THE WALL.
MAN THE WALL WITH RIFLEMEN.

Problem solved.

[…]

Two fences with mines between and gun towers every 200 yards. Open bidding in towers for $100/hour shoot anything between the fences is legal…

[…]

All I can think of is the tax dollars going to be spent on autopsy, morgue cost. Etc. Cut there heads off start the wall with that.

[…]

Should have been left in the desert as an example.

[…]

Enough with the ‘Migrant’ nonsense. They are ILLEGAL immigrants and I shed no tears for them. In fact, I have a smile on my face right now.

[…]

Wait until we start shooting them!

[…]

Use a trebuchet to fling am back across the border. Or just like them along the fence. Save a fortune.

[…]

That’s one way to deal with illegals!

[…]

Why is that number iso extremely low? We are going to have to redouble our efforts to get it much, much higher in 2017.

[…]

Why starve the local wildlife?

[…]

Leave the bodies out there for the animals.

[…]

Note to ranchers.

If you stick to soft tissue shots, by the time the coyotes (the canine ones) finish with them they look like “heat exhaustion” deaths.

Increase 61 by a hundred fold and the coyotes that remain (the Mexican ones) will find another path.

[…]

Forget the wall. Mine fields is what we need

[…]

Not to mention it’s down right entertaining

[…]

What do you call 61 dead illegals? A warning and a good start.

[…]

So What ? Sixty One Less On The Welfare Roles !! Keep Dropping Dead, And We’ll Keep Smiling !!!

[…]

It is a good start. Now load these corpses in a dump truck and take them back across the border and empty it in front of el presidente’s house.

[…]

Oh, look, 61 more homicides Obama can be tried for…

[…]

61 less parasitic democrat voters

[…]

People in the southern counties should be encouraged to add to the totals, as long as they dig holes for whoever they harvest.

Breitbart comments: maybe it hasn’t been said yet, but it will: “after all the people the Clintons have killed, why risk having them get close to the Dear Leader at the Inauguration?”

Even if Andrew Breitbart didn’t condone an overt embrace of fascism and white supremacism while he was alive, I am of the belief that he eventually would have. The seeds were sown with the people he hired who ultimately took the site in that direction.

Who knows. Maybe it was strictly business and a giddiness over the possibilities of what the new info-age had to offer to get revenue. But he helped fuck over a lot of people and sent assholes like O’Keefe into orbit. I celebrate no one’s death, but some I don’t so much mind or mourn.

She could potentially join former colleagues Gretchen Carlson, who guest-hosted NBC’s “Today” show Tuesday morning, and Greta Van Susteren, who is reportedly under consideration by MSNBC for a hosting position.

From there:

[…]

Adding 413 miles of fencing on the southwest border would be more expensive, according to the estimate of $11.37 billion, because it would be aimed at keeping pedestrians as well as vehicles from crossing.

Pedestrian fences require more staff and would cost $11.2 million per mile versus $4.1 million per mile to build to build, according to the report.

[…]

$7.1 million per mile would buy each Mexican crosser a car, allowing the cheaper fence to be built!

MSNBC has been sucking badly for years, and never more than last year. Just let it go. Fox “News” is the model all cable “news’ channels have chosen to emulate.

I’d love to see MSNBC put all three of these horrible people up against Fox hosts in the same time slots.

I still like All In, Rachel and The Last Word. I also like Joy Ann Reid. But otherwise I just avoid it. I find it’s much more pleasant to listen to music on the way to and from work rather than wasting time listening to MSNBC on Sirius. Granted that means tuning in here and on DKos to find out what’s going on and while that’s taking some adjustment (I was a 24/7 news junkie) I have been much more relaxed.

and this from when I posted from Think Progress downstairs earlier:

According to Reuters, the transition team “asked whether federal workers have altered biographic information kept by the department about immigrants out of concern for their civil liberties,” which DHS officials took to mean that Trump’s team wanted to make sure that they didn’t tamper with DACA records.

The transition team also asked the agency for information relating to immigration detention and an aerial surveillance program, named Operation Phalanx, which conservatives accuse the Obama administration of rolling back. That initiative, authorized by President Obama in 2010, was meant to intercept drugs and curb irregular migration along the southern U.S. border.

Charles Manson is out of prison and has been hospitalized, according to a report from TMZ.

His ailment is undisclosed.

Manson, 82, has been in prison for decades after he and his followers went on a murder spree in California.

He is serving nine concurrent life sentences at Corcoran State Prison in Corcoran, California.

Manson is now in a Bakersfield hospital.

politico.com

A Politico writer created a fake right winger Twitter account to see what sorts of thing they follow in the alt-media.

You would not be surprised to learn that conservatives are still convinced of a sex-trafficking ring in a pizzeria, that Aleppo was liberated from American-supported terrorists and fascists, and of course the actual media outlets are really fake news.

He created the Twitter handle HighCastlePhil to do this, and several people such as Michael Flynn, Jr. and Mike Cernovich jumped aboard his Twitter channel to feed him news.

After a week, I’d seen enough, and stepped out of the echo chamber. Overall, I found plenty of evidence that, yeah, fake news is a poisonous influence on the supporters of Donald Trump. But I’m not sure all that much would change if the teenagers in Skopje knocked it off and shut down their bogus sites. Social media will continue to facilitate the distribution of odious memes and the bullying of dissenters. @HighCastlePhil & co. will scrutinize and pass along information that they think might yield a politically useful smoking gun, and ignore information that doesn’t. In that regard they’re no different from other partisans. But there is a distinction between wearing political blinders, as we all do, and actively embracing ludicrous untruths manufactured for the purpose of making money. The tragic irony of the new credulousness is that it badly exacerbates the tribalism and distrust that turned so many fake news adherents against “establishment” politicians and journalists in the first place.

With that in mind, I didn’t delete Phil’s account. I’ll keep it to remind myself every now and then what’s cooking over in the parallel disinformation universe. Until the corporate stooges at Twitter shut down my “fake” account, that is.

Just got done catching up on the prior thread regarding Megyn Kelly’s move to NBC from FoxNews. Not to be any sort of apologist for her for a lot of her bombastic (and in may instances bigoted) comments during her broadcast career there, but one item does leave me with some questions - that being where she had withheld inside info on the Trump campaign for several months. Since a majority of this time was while Roger Ailes was still at the helm, and his handpicked editorial staff is still driving the content there, I am wondering if her lack of divulging this information was her decision or if it was due to a directive from her higher-ups to not reveal any new information that would be considered detrimental to their candidate.
One reason I’m leaning toward that scenario is that Kelly jumped ship from FoxNews (and reportedly took a HUGE pay cut in doing so) at her earliest opportunity to do so because she could no longer stand to be in the toxic environment that permeated there.

I doubt that the Dems had anything to do with it. It was the public response that did it.

Next time the GOP will do it right. They’ll make it illegal to report what they do or what the bills ALEC writes for them say.

Or slip it into page 125 of a “must-pass” appropriations bill.

More proof that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. No one squeaks like conservative viewers/readers/listeners. So due to probably hearing from them more, the media figures they are the majority. And they cry like no one else.

Democrats/liberals/progressives have to ramp up the bitching…it seems to work. The “old” Silent Majority was never silent. They actually were catered to by FOX and a whole style of media has been built around them. See NBC and Megyn Kelly.

A few days ago I wandered onto a Yahoo thread that allows others to respond to questions. Someone asked if it was now acceptable to attack gays, blacks, Hispanics/Latinos, and others one personally designates as “undesirables.” The general answer was, Yes,” and one response read, “That’s what the 2016 election was all about.” My fear is that these types of attacks will occur, and that law enforcement will refuse to arrest them, and attorney generals in some states will refuse to prosecute the offenders for committing these hate crimes. SMDH.

Did you go away for a while, or did I just not see you? I was literally about to ask the other lizards about you when I saw your moniker. (Sorry…gotta gloat a bit…I’ll take a little sportin’ up in this down time politically.)

Louise Mensch is a weird case. Sometimes it seems like she actually gets why the right wing is so horrible, and other times she’s right there promoting the same crap.

I suspect that she drinks, or indulges in other recreational things.

The Breitbart comments section Bannon so loves is no different from the commentators on Stormfront. It’s beyond disgusting that a man who was behind such a racist cesspool is getting a job with the WH. It was bad enough when Reagan pandered to racist assholes. Trump’s pandered to them and brought them all the way to the WH.

Mike Huckabee makes his case for ethnic cleansing of the West Bank.

Huckabee visits West Bank: ‘Build Israel Great Again’

Huckabee was in Maale Adumim to lay the cornerstone for a new neighborhood in one of the largest Israeli settlements in the West Bank, just east of Jerusalem. The former Arkansas governor and strong supporter of Israel held a hat with the same catchphrase, and said he would bring one to Trump, whose campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” was the inspiration for the Maale Adumim banner.
Huckabee told CNN that he rejected the use of the word “settlements.”
“I think Israel has title deed to Judea and Samaria,” said Huckabee, using the Biblical terms for the West Bank. “There are certain words I refuse to use. There is no such thing as a West Bank. It’s Judea and Samaria. There’s no such thing as a settlement. They’re communities, they’re neighborhoods, they’re cities. There’s no such thing as an occupation.”

The last time these lands were called Judea and Samaria was about 500BCE. They only became under Israeli control after they were captured and occupied as a result of the Six Days’ War, and the rhetoric Huckabee is pushing here is to forcibly remove by any means the current residents of this area, who have a historical claim to the lands for the last 500+ years.

The media’s going to report Trump’s tweet that it was “delayed” without correction, as they’re afraid to call what he says “lies,” so people will hear this shit unfiltered and assume that he’s right that the intel community is delaying the briefing because they’re unsure of their case.

What Trump has proven in the last 18+ months is that he can make the media dance like puppets with a single tweet. There is no filter between him and the public, the media repeats what he says without any check on it whatsoever, so people have to do their own legwork to prove he’s full of shit. And in our society where so many simply don’t have the time or resources to fact check the constant Gish Gallop from him, they just take what he says at face value until told otherwise. Case in point, the number of morons I heard who were parroting his remarks that the Air Force One contract was billions overbudget and he was gonna “save money” by cancelling it.

A prominent anti-choice activist is facing felony charges for making a terrorist threat against a St. Louis Planned Parenthood, reports KTVI.

According to City of St. Louis prosecutors, John P. Ryan, 64, made bomb threats against the facility forcing it to be evacuated and police to be called on Saturday.

Ryan is described as a member of the anti-choice group Defenders of the Unborn, and is regularly seen protesting outside the clinic.

According to the director of Defenders of the Unborn, Mary Maschmeier, the charges against Ryan are “bogus” and “trumped up,” and he never told a Planned Parenthood worker he placed bombs in the building.

Maschmeier, who posted $1,500 bond to get Ryan released, claimed the arrest was “traumatic” for the man and damaged his reputation.
