Meryl Streep’s Courageous Speech vs. Donald Trump’s Craven Bullying Attack

Trump lashes out again
Politics • Views: 54,736

YouTube

At last night’s Golden Globe Awards, Meryl Streep was honored with a lifetime achievement award for her many years of great acting, and used part of her acceptance speech to direct some very pointed comments at Donald Trump.

“There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it, but it was effective and it did its job.

“It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back.”

She was referring to Trump’s appalling mockery of disabled New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski, who has a condition that effects the movement of muscles in his arms.

YouTube

And like clockwork, Trump got on Twitter early this morning (I predicted 3 am; he tweeted at 3:29) and responded to Streep’s denunciation of his bullying, crude comments with another bullying, crude comment, and lied outright once again that he wasn’t mocking Kovaleski.

Anyone who watches the video of Trump doing his imitation of Kovaleski can clearly see for themselves that he’s lying — but that never stops Trump, because our president-elect is an insecure, thin-skinned, pathologically dishonest egomaniac who holds the rest of humanity in contempt.

Some “overrated” actor doesn’t even mention his name and he flips out. Imagine when he’s called out by name by other world leaders… If shit weren’t so perilous these days, I’d be laughing at this asshole.

Assuming that he’s not suffering from dementia or memory issues, in which case he simply has no short, intermediate, or long term memory, and therefore thinks he never said or did anything.

The “do as I say, not as I do” aspect of this would be unreal, except pretty much everything involving appointments and conflicts of interests is even more glaring.

Or he doesn’t see it as mocking. Either way he’s fucking not well in the head. Wish I could be shocked that the right is whining about Streep’s speech but these are the same assholes that whined about the Dixie Chicks but said nothing when Nugent told Clinton and Obama to suck his gun.

apparently she didn’t trust anyone else to hold her beer when she did this:

YORK, Pa. (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania woman drove into a river to avoid arrest, then ignored officers and continued drinking beer as she floated in the vehicle.

The York Daily Record reports police approached the woman near a boat launch Monday to arrest her for fleeing from them earlier. She was wanted for running a stop sign.

They say she hit the gas and barreled into the Susquehanna River.

They say officers tried to communicate with her, but she just ignored them and drank her beer.

I think that’s honestly why she acts the way she does. I doubt she has any actual loved ones. Sure, alot of right wingers love her hateful bullshit but I doubt she has too many people she can go to when times are tough. She’s a hateful person and has been for as long as I remember. I just hope she doesn’t last as long as her spiritual mother, Phyillis did in the public spotlight and the media eventually tires of her hateful bullshit and basically makes her go away into obscurity and misery.

Good luck with that, wingnuts. Being “in” the arts is a whole ‘nother thing than being “successful” in the arts. (See Rick Santorum’s movie studio, the fabulous success of the “Atlas Shrugged” movies, Kirk Cameron’s Xmas movie, which garnered a 0 on Rotten Tomatoes, etc.)

Lemme guess though Jacobin’s bitching that because Streep is rich, she shouldn’t talk about certain stuff. Funny how people like that never bitch when people like Susan Sarandon actually do say stuff that shows them to be out of touch like “Trump will lead to a revolution so let’s not elect the “lesser evil.”

re: #54 HappyWarrior

I can’t believe she has any fans at all. As I said, I’d hate if she represented my ideology.

My 100% serious belief about current US politics is that stated ideology is a red herring.

Ideology means binding to positions and establishing structure to make them efficient, while considering the larger moral and practical implications that connect to a position like dominoes.

If your position is “it can’t fail” until it fails, and then “no time to analyze, we were stabbed in the back, when it does fail”;

When your position is “x is unforgiveable, no exception” but there is an inconsistent application of “well, x is forgive-able because of mitigating factor Y”;

When your standards of moral conduct and efficacy distort because of alliances;

ideology isn’t really meaningful.

Everybody, individually and in groups, can have specific instances of incoherence and even hypocrisy…that’s human nature and fuckery…which is not to minimize that they can cause massive damage and harm. But individual instances of hypocrisy and fuckery occur within a healthier system that can eventually catch or call out the issue.

But it’s a different thing when an organization specifically creates operating parameters in which the above are the norm. So when incoherence happens, they simply claims there’s nothing wrong, nothing inconsistent…or that glaring inconsistency can only happen because of a outside malevolence. It’s a mindset in which oversight and reality testing are betrayals, but failures require retaliation. Can’t fail, can only be failed always ends up using the same rhetorical excesses, and excusing the same ugliness.

Couple this the other dangerous premise—that groups X through Y are lesser or of suspect loyalty—and you get a pattern that explains much of modern history’s state violence.

Society Could Collapse In A Decade, Predicts Math Historian

The end of the world as we know it could be near ― possibly just years from now, according to a scientist who uses historical and mathematical modeling to predict events.

Peter Turchin, a professor at the University of Connecticut’s department of ecology and evolutionary biology, warns in a phys.org article published this week that society could risk implosion within the decade because of increasing social unrest.

And, no, a collapse wouldn’t necessarily be President-elect Donald Trump’s fault ― though Turchin writes that he sees the businessman’s election win as confirmation that “negative trends seem to be accelerating.” Trump’s campaign marked an “unprecedented collapse of social norms governing civilized discourse,” Turchin adds.

“We should expect many years of political turmoil, peaking in the 2020s,” the cultural evolution researcher writes.

The Great 2017 Meryl Streep Sniveling.

She was, as always, all grace and class. Her voice was quiet and thoughtful and she simply spoke of human decency and empathy. She used specific examples of where different actors in the audience happened to be from and the roles they’d played to illustrate that empathy is a necessary characteristic of playing a character.

Then she pivoted to cruelty and used a specific incident to illustrate it where someone else was trying to “act.” She spoke of how opening the door to hate and cruelty and lack of empathy at high levels encourages it in others.

She was not angry, she was sad. Vulnerable. And she used the word, “empathy” repeatedly.

It was very moving to watch. But of course it was, she’s one of the greatest actresses living.

Good on you, Meryl.

Charles “Chuck” Johnson, a controversial blogger and conservative online personality, has been pushing for various political appointees to serve under Donald Trump, according to multiple sources close to the President-elect’s transition team. While Johnson does not have a formal position, FORBES has learned that he is working behind the scenes with members of the transition team’s executive committee, including billionaire Trump donor Peter Thiel, to recommend, vet and give something of a seal of approval to potential nominees from the so-called “alt-right.”

There is a solution for this. If each Trump cabinet appointee does not have all the paperwork, completed FBI background check, or does not release tax info then a D senator should place a hold on that nominee. Republicans did this all the time. Democrats need to play hardball.

More common are the mysterious Senate holds. This process, not spelled out in the Senate rules, allows any senator, for no given reason, to anonymously put on hold a nomination by simply asking his or her party leader for the delay

At least Streep criticized Streep for something he actually did unlike these delusional pieces of shit who believe Obama “took” their “freedoms.”

Yep. Really. This election really woke me up to a lot of the fucked up sexism that exists in our society and I’m sad to say that there’s a lot on the left too. Now, I do think Lizardom is pretty good but I saw a lot of sexism on the left too that I had no idea was there. Maybe, some of it was just hatred of Hillary by them but some of it was flat out sexism.

I saw as much of the words “cackle” “crooked” “c$nt” “bitch” “witch” on the left as the right. It was pathetic.

All of them helped give us Trump. Fuck ‘em all.

“We should expect many years of political turmoil, peaking in the 2020s,”

As much as this election has eaten at me, ruined my appetite and driven up my blood pressure, I think his title is a bit melodramatic. This sentence is more spot on. I think we’re witnessing social upheaval because the right knows that if they don’t clamp down on things now, they’re control over the country is about to be over. That’s why they’re trying to burn it all down: “If I can’t have it, no one can.” And I think they’re being really aggressive now because they know Trump won on a whim, with everything happening right for him at just the right moment. You don’t win reelection on that.

We have our work cut out for us, and I’m still trying to figure out what I can do in a county that is 24% Democrat. Turning out the vote in 2018 is one. But there are a lot of us out there, and we can ultimately prevail. I think we’re more sitting 1968 rather than 1860, which was a massive social upheaval.

As far as I’m concerned, people who call themselves ‘Jacobins’ aren’t going to be helpful.

The original Jacobins were a bunch of fucked-up zealots that played a large role in turning France into a shit show after their revolution.

Which is why I so often compared modern ‘conservatives’ to them. Along with the Bolsheviks who they most closely resemble since they agree with Marx on how a capitalist society works.

Johnsons exploits include publishing the addresses of New York Times reporters, wrongly identified a woman he thought was the source of Rolling Stone’s now-retracted story of an alleged rape at the University of Virginia and claimed that President Barack Obama is gay.

Just looked through the bill, and there is no exception for rape or incest. The woman basically has to be on the verge of death or major organ failure.

And we know how that went in Ireland. Savita Halappanavar was septic and miscarrying but the doctors were too afraid to do an abortion because of the law. She died.

Mesa first announced the Apple manufacturing facility in 2013, when there were expected to be 2,000 jobs created there. In 2015, Apple said it would invest $2 billion to expand “a command center for the company’s global networks.” The company currently has job postings for “data center site services technicians” in Mesa.

I still think Trump is going to have a very public, very nasty breakdown at some point. He can’t take criticism of any type, and he’s about to take a job where 85% of the comments about you are criticism of some sort.

In celebrity news, I was playing poker this weekend and ended up playing with James Woods for a little while. I always figured he’d be a bit creepy, if not an ass, but he was a pretty nice guy. Of course, there’s typically a very strong “no politics at the poker table” rule that most players follow, so there’s that.
