20

I’d really rather be watching that Tillerson confirmation rather than the press conference. Rubio was spitting that hot fire, totally unexpected. I think (might be my boundless optimism) that the Repub establishment is scared enough to stop taking for granted that they can’t be actually harmed by this.

Trump’s “presser” timed to take pressure off people watching Tillerson get grilled, Sessions get slammed, and unless Trump releases his tax returns, then all we’ll get is more of the same shuck and jive BS that he’s been getting away with for more than a year.

The media wont hold him accountable. That much is clear. Cable news will continue cutting to an empty podium so long as he’s around, instead of covering actual news - like his nominees showing their incompetence, conflicts of interest, extremism, etc. Paper journalists have a tougher job, since their editors are ultimately beholden to make sure that the paper stays afloat - so ripping Trump a new one might reduce their access.

Never mind that any one of Trump’s scandals should have been disqualifying - the totality is the most extreme and most unqualified person to ever win an election in the US. That the Russians have coopted and compromised his administration demands immediate action from both Trump and the Congress - including investigations, hearings, and sworn testimony by all those involved.

It wont happen, of course, because those are the things reserved for when a Democrat is in the White House.

Treasonous. Yup. Just like with conflicts of interest, he wants to do more than what the Constitution requires. So President-elect Trump has decided, and we are announcing today, that he is going to voluntarily donate all profits from foreign government payments made to his hotels to the United States Treasury. This way it is the American people who will profit.

doesn’t sound like it’s on the up and up.

It sounds a lot more like he’s trying to set up the US government as an alter ego of the Trump Organization. I mean, what happens when those hotels don’t make a profit but for payments by foreign governments? And what if foreign governments decide not to use Trump hotels now? This feels like some straight up oligarchical bullshit.

lawhawk  Jan 11, 2017 • 9:24:24am

I weep for the nation. This is worse than disgraceful. Trump has no regard for the Constitution (let alone the oath he’s going to take in just a few short days). He’s already showing he thinks he can do whatever he damn well pleases.

He’s going to get people killed.
He’s going to try and gut the 1A - we saw glimmers of this today.
And he’s got a lot of help - courtesy of the GOP that is playing along with Trump because they gained near total control over the levers of power at the federal level.

The media continues to play along - thinking that they can both sides their way out of this - needing access and playing nice. This isn’t about playing along or playing nice. It’s about the need to report on what Trump is doing is destabilizing to the very foundation of American democracy and that we’ve got a guy who’s up to his eyeballs in Russian contacts, is compromised even before he takes office, and has already shown that he’s going to cede much of our foreign policy to a pro-Russian outcome.

So Donald stands there and says absolutely nothing but babble and lies and now the “news service” will fall all over themselves to be the first to “get” what he said and package it to the public.
He should have just pointed to that pile of papers that represented all the “self sacrificing work” he had to do, did not have to do, but only did it because he’s a marvelous man, very great.
And then he would point to another huge pile of paper money and tell us “that’s all the money I’m giving up because, well, I’m great, really great, and we know that”.

And the Russians came right out and said it was fake news, so there.

And the DNC got hacked because they wore that dress, and you stay at a motel and you end up on the internet, you know they got cameras.

THIS.

It’s only a matter of just how destabilized we are, and if anything is salvageable.

That one political party is corrupt from top to bottom — and if they are all complicit in working with Russia to throw the election, should all be barred from holding office for life — is absolutely horrifying.

It’s only going to get ugly on a scale not seen since the 1860s. Possibly 1801.

Jim Acosta just stated that Spicer came to him after the cameras left him and informed him if he tried to confront Trump again, he was going to be thrown out.

OK, not really “addresses”, and OK, not really “wide-ranging” and not really a “press conference”.

Nice bit of stenography from CNN there. Since the yam wouldn’t take their questions, they should have had plenty of time to parse the bullshit instead of just quoting it verbatim.

So, this is me. I am an incurable optimist.

The fact is, people BELIEVE everything in these memos is not only plausible, but likely. His credibility, because he has defended Russia both prior to and during this “press conference” is shot. His ability to lead the American people, to gain our trust and support and respect, is gone. He’s done.

If you don’t believe the Republicans in Congress don’t realize that and are going to bail on supporting him….I mean, “golden showers” has been introduced into our lexicon. i found myself carefully explaining it to my 11 year-old last night. Awesome.

They are going to turn on him now. As Keith O. said, if he would stop defending Russia he might have a chance, but every time he does he adds fuel to the accusations. I’ve read every word of those memos. Russia threatened to blackmail him with more material. He’s got no legs to stand on.

And his debt, according to the memos, is with CHINA. Attacking them makes sense.

So, this is the pivot point. it will all snowball. Rubio is breaking with Trump as I type. McCain and Graham already have. Republicans are breaking with him on ACA repeal. He’s pissed off the intelligence community.

It’s falling apart.
