CBS News Now Confirms Trump Brought a Cheering Section to His CIA Speech - and the CIA Isn’t Happy About It

Authoritarian despot-style
Politics • Views: 54,967

Today we have even more confirmation that Donald Trump brought his personal cheering section to his bizarre narcissistic speech in front of the CIA’s memorial wall. CBS News reports that not only were Trump’s supporters cheering and laughing, this creepy boastful speech actually made relations with the intelligence community even worse than they already were.

U.S. government sources tell CBS News that there is a sense of unease in the intelligence community after President Trump’s visit to CIA headquarters on Saturday.

An official said the visit “made relations with the intelligence community worse” and described the visit as “uncomfortable.”

Authorities are also pushing back against the perception that the CIA workforce was cheering for the president. They say the first three rows in front of the president were largely made up of supporters of Mr. Trump’s campaign.

An official with knowledge of the make-up of the crowd says that there were about 40 people who’d been invited by the Trump, Mike Pence and Rep. Mike Pompeo teams. The Trump team expected Rep. Pompeo, R-Kansas, to be sworn in during the event as the next CIA director, but the vote to confirm him was delayed on Friday by Senate  Democrats. Also sitting in the first several rows in front of the president was the CIA’s senior leadership, which was not cheering the remarks.

[…]

Intelligence sources say many in the workforce were stunned and at times offended by the president’s tone which seemed to evolve into a version of speeches he’d used on the campaign trail.

Instead of listening to “U.S. government sources” not approved by DT, maybe CBS News should get the real news from Sean Spicer who is the only person with all the facts. Period.

The GOP rank-and-file frankly don’t care if they lose 100 House seats next November.

Because they will have achieved what they’ve been clamoring to do for 60 years - rolling back every bit of social progress since the New Deal. Everything from Social Security to Medicare and Medicaid are under assault, as well as Obamacare/ACA, SNAP, TANF, CRA, and VRA. All of it. All of the environmental protections. All of it.

They’re focused like a laser beam on gutting the safety net and programs that help millions of Americans make ends meet - whether it’s senior citizens or families with kids, and claiming that this will make America great again.

It’s bait and switch, and the GOP rank and file is too callous to admit that this is exactly what they’re doing.

If wingnuts want to use abortion as a cudgel on determining foreign aid, then they can start by restricting aid to Israel by that logic, right?

After all, Israel’s abortion policy is much more liberal than that of any European nation.

From what I understand , one of the goals of gaslighting is to demonstrate that even if you know the truth, resistance is futile. It breaks down trust between people, which is the bedrock of human organizations. Often the word used to describe this is cynicism. Sara Kendzior has some good info on this on her Twitter Feed.

And as tiring as it can be, one of our goals has to be staying engaged and angry. It can be done, look at the tea party. We must always point out when they are BS-ing.

Gonna be interesting, that’s for certain.

If Trump proceeds to destroy organizations, he loses his ability to carry out any policy beyond that destruction. Or affect anything.

(Unless he goes outside the feds and starts his own private governing organizations.)

His billionaire co-conspirators are expecting him to deliver certain policies. And maintain others. And are based upon certain economic and law assumptions that are maintained by the feds.

Add on that the apparent inability of the current administration to carry out it’s own stated goals. According to Eichenwald, the administration has 30 some major position nominations in the Senate. And 2-3 confirmed. Administrations have generally tried to aim for 100 nominations at this point. The last two administrations had at least 7 confirmed as of their inauguration.

Well well well, Bernie Sanders is out praising Trump for nixing the TPP deal and “delighted to work with him on pro worker policies

But hey, please tell me how Bernie Sanders is different from Trump?

I watched this last night on Natgeo. So I dug around and found it here. There are two parts. Graphic and disturbing. Lest anyone get the idea that talking to Nazis is the proper way of dealing with them. In any name of form they are evil incarnate. After Hitler.

It’s worth a watch. Considering that the Nazi playbook is now being used and apologists and dupes are abounding. “Oh don’t punch a Nazi. You will be no better.” *spit*

I’ve said it before, but it really is clear Trump regards her as nothing but a Trophy wife, and Melania only plays the part when he’s looking. I imagine she’s thinking of the best place to plunge the knife whenever she looks at his back.

She looks like the domestic abuse victim that I have no doubts she is. She’s terrified.

I was hoping that we’d see at least one or two Republicans bail on one or two of Trump’s appointments. Even if they still got through on a Pence tie-breaker. But doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

It is too early for them to start showing active opposition to their elected leader…

Depends on the jurisdiction. California requires member meetings. The default is annually, but the operating agreement can be written to allow them as little as once every five years.

If all the ownership interests are within the family, the “annual meetings” can be birthday dinners, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. It’s not like the minutes will ever be published.

re: #12 Sir John Barron

Has anybody asked Spicer why one of DT’s first EO’s was to make getting mortgages more difficult?

Of course not, Trump has ensured that all the media talks about are crowd numbers, Trump’s tie and all and any other topic not related to policy. Ryan carries on his agenda laughing all the way to the obliteration of his opposition.
