Trump’s disapproval three-day average jumps 3 points in one day. His first week is officially a PR disaster:

I look on all that as a gimmick (on Gallup’s part, to get webhits at Gallup) more than anything else.

As is usual in these type of things, “approval” has become a magic word for pollsters. But more tellingly, there just isn’t that much of a difference in that survey for “approval” and disapproval, given the sample size. The headline could just as well be that almost as many Americans approve of Trump as disapprove.

Now, one can say that compared to previous Presidents that Trump is not doing as well at the start. True, but I’m not sure it’s important. It will not stop Trump, who can just declare that Gallup is surveying illegal aliens.

We must internalize, rather than reject, the fact that enough Americans like Trump to have gotten him elected, even though yes, he got a minority vote.

My Facebook feed still as clueless Trumpers putting up all the stupid memes, completely oblivious, self-willingly oblivious, to the truth. They appear to believe they are living in a TV show.

Of course not. The only “minorities” we care about now are Christians. All that talk about homosexuals are tossed off buildings? Yeah, we’re going to continue to only give a fuck about that as a talking point to tell those in America “be glad we’re not executing you.”

Oh, I know, but conservatives never bother to think about unintended consequences of their actions.

For those political scolds who have told us not to overreact, and tell us Trump’s EOs are just bluster without Cong. approval…this is why we’re freaking out about them. There’s still a huge amount he can do with EOs that will destroy countless thousands of lives because “OOGA BOOGA, SCARY SWARTHY BROWN PEOPLE, KEEP THEM OUT!!!”

And the idea that he can’t get Congressional approval is rather amusing. Ryan’s already hard at work trying to sell the Great Wall of Derp as “national security spending” so that it doesn’t have to be paid for with an offset.

The list is from 8 USC 1187(a)(12):
Iraq. Syria. Iran. Sudan. Those are specifically named. DHS has previously announced: Libya, Somalia, and Yemen.

This also gives DHS sweeping rights to choose countries to be added/removed.

Note too that these are countries that did not have any involvement in 9/11. Saudi Arabia is specifically not identified here, even though a significant number of 9/11 terrorists originated there (to say nothing of it being the original home of OBL).

This is a Muslim ban in no uncertain terms, using innocuous language to do the most noxious kind of thing.

That thing was written in 2015 and is really quite harsh—just wondered what Jewish group set it off—The ADL talks about a whole coalition of Jewish groups helping Syrian refugees and I don’t recall any Jewish outcry against refugees.

Motherfucking David Brooks is at it again:nytimes.com

Trump has changed the way the Republican Party sees the world. Republicans used to have a basic faith in the dynamism and openness of the free market. Now the party fears openness and competition.

Trump has changed precisely nothing about the Republican party. How could he? He ran as an outsider, and GOP primary voters flocked to his message of hate and bigotry because that is what they have been programmed to do by decades of Republican propaganda.

Even now, the worst president and administration in US history is supported by Republican majorities in both houses of Congress that will exploit the demented fool in the white house as long as they possibly can to get his signatures on various America-hating action items of the Republican agenda.

46
lawhawk  Jan 27, 2017 • 5:25:36pm

Trump is the GOP. The GOP is Trump. They are indivisible at this point, and there isn’t any way around it. Trump voters don’t realize the shit show that’s already underway. They think any of this is normal or transformative in a positive way?

They think a Muslim ban is a good thing?

These are the same people who cheered and demanded Japanese interment.
These are the America Firsters who were openly supporting Nazi Germany before US entry in the war.

These are the economic illiterates who don’t realize they aren’t going to see any of the benefits of any of the policies that Trump’s pushing.

Not the 20% tax on imports from Mexico.
Not the expected income tax cuts.
Not the slash and burn of the safety net.
Not the destruction of Obamacare.
Not gutting the education system or environmental protections.

Not any of it.

They instead are going to get the burdens:
20% hike on produce and products from Mexico, higher fuel costs, etc.
Tax cuts that wont make up for the hike from the Mexico tax. Unless you’re a millionaire, in which case you’re cashing in. And even if you’re a billionaire, you still need safe water to drink and air to breathe, and gutting the EPA will increase chances of noxious emissions and worsening water quality.

Nonprofits and political organizations should really take a lesson from the Southern Poverty Law Center when it comes to donations.

Instead of harassing someone, who has already given money to you, with solicitations asking for more money, send them a four page letter about how they were founded, what they’re doing now, and how they plan to expand in the future.

The best part? The entire mailing was just the letter. No solicitations for more money or anything. Makes me want to donate money to them more than any type of solicitation I have ever gotten from another group.
