White House Correspondent Gateway Pundit’s Co-Blogger Found Guilty of Multiple Firearms Crimes

These are the people who are being accredited by the Trump gang
Wingnuts • Views: 66,594

Jim Hoft and his blog Gateway Pundit have long been known as purveyors of far right fake news, and now, in the era of the Trump Horror, Hoft’s blog has actually been credentialed as a White House correspondent.

Today in Oregon, one of Jim Hoft’s fellow bloggers at Gateway Pundit (and its equally bogus sister blog “Progressives Today”), Michael Aaron Strickland, was convicted of multiple felonies and misdemeanors for pulling a gun and threatening protesters at a demonstration in Portland: Guilty: Man who pulled gun out at ‘Don’t Shoot PDX’ protest.

A man who pulled out a gun at a Don’t Shoot Portland march and pointed it at a crowd of protesters in downtown Portland was found guilty Friday of 21 felony and misdemeanor crimes.

Multnomah County Circuit Judge Thomas Ryan found Michael Aaron Strickland, 37, guilty of 10 counts of unlawful use of a weapon, 10 counts of menacing and one count of second-degree disorderly conduct for pointing his Glock semi-automatic handgun at 10 protesters.

Is this the first time in history a White House press correspondent is associated with a convicted felon?

I wonder at point does Trudeau start throwing a fit about this? Trump is pissing away every bit of goodwill the U.S. Has with Canada.

Make no mistake, Canadians will NOT stand idly by while we are turned away at the border for bullshit reasons. We’ll just stop visiting the U.S. As much as possible and I’m sure the border towns wil be thrilled with the loss of business and tourism dollars.

Actions have consequences Mr. Trump.

Some interesting tidbits on coal vs. natural gas here:

“…Logistically speaking, coal fired plants are cumbersome, difficult to turn off and on, and natural gas fired plants have generally played the role of “on demand” supply for the grid. Natural gas plants are quicker to turn on and off (for one the gas is supplied through pipeline, not rail car). This is one of the several reasons that the demand curve for natural gas over time has seen relatively large fluctuations. “

“…In its Annual Energy Outlook 2015, the EIA concludes that dry natural gas production will be the largest contributor to total U.S. energy production through 2040 in all cases, giving it a 34% share in the Reference Case.

In 2013, dry natural gas accounted for 30% of total U.S. energy production, according to the EIA. Coal’s share of total U.S. energy production remains slightly above 20% of total U.S. energy production through 2040 in the EIA Reference case.

In 2013, coal made up 44% of total generation fuel costs, and natural gas made up 42%. In 2040, coal makes up only 35% of total fuel costs in the Reference case, compared with 55% for natural gas. Oil, which is the most expensive fuel for generation, accounted for 6% of the total generating fuel costs in 2013 and from 2019 through 2040 accounts for only 3% of the total. Nuclear fuel accounts for 6% to 8% of electricity generation fuel costs throughout the projection period, according to the EIA outlook.

The government only has a duty to protect his 1 Amendment rights insofar as a government agency might choose to curtail his speech.

The government has no place protecting Mr. Yiannopolis from the consequences of his speech, including counter-protesters, who also have the right to free speech.

If protesters were to physically attack him, then the government has a duty to try to stop the assailants, because that is a crime.

I am not sure how an ACLU lawyer could fail to understand the difference between “government censorship” and “counter-protest.”

(I had to take a political derp break and soothe myself with my hammered dulcimer. Also, good for pounding out frustration.)

There was already an outstanding deportation order issued in 2013, so when she came in for her annual meeting with ICE, they knew they could just arrest her and immediately deport her.

That’s where Donald Trump’s “humane camps of concentration” come in.

There is no way the government can afford to deport as many people as Mr. Trump wants. Much cheaper to build camps.

Where are all the right-wingers who were screeching about camps under President Obama? I guess they don’t think they could accidentally (or intentionally) be swept up.

If you weren’t nauseated before…

“The First Lady was very much looking forward to welcoming Mrs. Abe to the White House upon her arrival in Washington; however, she was informed that Mrs. Abe had previous commitments during her stay in DC,” the statement said.

Total bullshit—Mrs. Abe she was accompanied by staffers and handlers as she toured Gallaudet U.

“The first lady flew to (Andrews Air Force Base) to meet the President, Prime Minister Abe and Mrs. Abe to be able to fly with them on Air Force One as it was Mrs. Abe’s first opportunity to spend time with the first lady.

So glad Melania could tear herself away from all of her other pressing duties (filed any new lawsuits lately?)

They will all be together for the weekend at Mar-a-Lago and have a full itinerary. Mrs. Trump is delighted to be able to welcome the Prime Minister and Mrs. Abe to the first family’s winter home, which is a very special place to her and to the entire Trump family.”

I guess the White House just isn’t classy enough for someone as classy as Melania Trump—that pink, gaudy mess in Florida is so much more “elegant.” (and hey, it puts more money in the yam’s pockets, so win-win)

There was a dinner scheduled for Friday evening for the Abes and the Trumps at Mar-a-Lago, and on Saturday, it is expected the two spouses will be alone together while their husbands play golf and talk diplomacy.

The poor Abes—he has to suffer while the yam cheats at golf and talks “diplomacy”—now THAT will be a short conversation; Mrs. Abe has to be alone with Melania in that cultural enclave of Mar a Lago—maybe they can don swimsuits and compare tan lines.

I know-not that important in the whole scheme of things, but ugh.

Actually, he can simply reject Caribou Barbie’s credentials and pack her off back to Alaska and ask for a Real Ambassador.

And here’s your citation for the ability to tell Palin to leave.

According to a United Nations treaty called the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, ambassadors are solely appointed by the country that they will represent.
So U.S. president Donald Trump has carte blanche to name Palin as his next envoy to Ottawa.

The next step is requesting approval from the Canadian government to accept her.

Under Article 4, paragragh 2 of the convention, the host country that receives the request has the right to deny it.

No explanation is necessary.

We really should take Donald Trump at his word. He is so incompetent, that the only way he can protect the country is to run it as a dictator.

Luckily, we know from our experience with Obama that we don’t need a dictator to keep our country safe. Instead, we can rely on the intelligence of those in charge to do the things necessary to prevent a major attack.

Until we can get back to those times, we have to stay alert, and fight one of the possible sources of America’s destruction: the president.

Greets and saluts from the resistance. The Russian connections to the Trump admin continue showing everywhere you look, and yet the media still isn’t running the story above the fold.

Reality should be that the Flynn case should be the top story above the fold. It’s buried on the NYT page; they’re just asking the questions. “Trump Will ‘Look Into’ Reports That Flynn Discussed Sanctions With Russia”

NBC News page buries the story as well: “Official: Flynn Did Discuss Sanctions With Russia Before Taking Office
U.S. NEWS”

CNN has a headline above the fold, but it’s in the form of an opinion - not straight reporting that this should terminate Flynn from the employ of the admin (plus criminal charges).

Nothing on the LAT website front page. The WaPo does have a report, but it too is below the fold.

Not that there’s confirmation with transcripts that Flynn was discussing dropping sanctions with Russians. This is confirmed not only with a transcript but 9 officials who confirmed this occurred. So the NBC News story underplays the severity as well.

Other aspects of the Trump trip to Russia were also confirmed - ancillary issues relating to the dossier from the Brits about Trump’s connections and perversions.

You get crickets.

These are actions that make Watergate look like kid’s play. And Flynn is just the tip of a Russian iceberg that has infiltrated the administration at its highest levels. The GOP doesn’t care. The media is flailing around, and Trump just lies and a week later 30% believe whatever baffling BS he’s stated the week before (even higher among his supporters who buy whatever he’s selling).

Been looking at snopes.com this morning. Along with LGF, this is one of the few islands of sanity left in this increasingly deranged world.

Among the more interesting finds:
Did Fred Trump Run a Campaign Advertisement Called ‘Dope Man’ in 1969?(a claim that was linked here)

It was found to be false. The video is a fabrication produced in 2016, using footage from a 1969 anti-drug film called A Day in the Death of Donny B. Trump’s racism and hatred for Mayor John Lindsay are well documented, but there is no evidence he ever considered running for mayor himself.

This one is pretty funny, though sadly pausible:
Did Betsy DeVos Demand Classroom Globes Be Flattened?

Upon hearing of her extremely narrow Senate confirmation, newly confirmed Education Secretary Betsy DeVos issued an order that all globes being used in any American school are to be “flattened like God made it just 6,000 years ago.”

Again, this was false. It originated in Huffington Post’s satirical “Political Garbage Chute” feature and was clearly labeled as satire.

Needless to say, this one is also false:
LARK Spurred

Under the LARK program, are Taliban detainees being housed with liberals who disagree with the government’s treatment of prisoners kept at Guantanamo Bay?

This has really been making the rounds among RWNJs, with the usual proliferation of variants. This morning. free republic ran a German version in which a liberal schooteacher is found murdered and mutilated by the barbarous refugees he had foolishly taken into his home.

Future of Ivanka Trump Jewelry Line Uncertain, Retailers Say

As Nordstrom copresident Pete Nordstrom put it in an email to employees, obtained by Fortune:

We’ve heard from customers, including some who are long time loyal customers, threatening a boycott of Nordstrom if we continue to carry the line. Similarly, we’ve heard from customers who say they will boycott Nordstrom if we stop carrying the brand. This is a sharply divisive subject. No matter what we do, we are going to end up disappointing some of our customers.

Ultimately, he concluded, “Every single brand we offer is evaluated on their results—if people don’t buy it, we won’t sell it.”

I’ve been seeing this one alot from the dude bros I know. Nearly every educator I’ve talked to has a problem with Devos. Of course, the response to that is the TEACHERS UNION. Plus I have a big problem with Devos being a huge Republican financial contributor rather than an educator or someone who has served on school boards. She’s literally spent her family fortune trying to discredit public education, the educational system for a large maojrity of American children.

re: #189 Timothy Watson

It’s not ignorance.

Documents don’t mean anything to Huck and his ilk. Look at how they approach the Bible—not as a text, but as a collection of sentences that can be delved into to find whatever words justify what they want. Text (and in particular, exegesis) always has fluid meaning, but this is basically Burroughs cut-up technique as apologism.

It’s how this banal, avaricious Christianity that purposefully has no mercy exists.

Go read David Barton (Glenn Beck’s buddy) explaining the New Testament. For that matter, read any of the “evangelical”* wingnuts routinely featured on sites like RightWingWatch. The Bible, even Christ’s express guidance, is carefully picked apart and spun around—the sentence cut from the paragraph that gives it context, the parable treated not as a parable…to say nothing of the entire escape hatch of “dispensations,” in which all of that moral guidance is inapplicable because it’s advice for a different age (in the Greek or Indian sense).

*in quotes because only by the most distant reach could they be considered to be bearing The Good News.

Thing is, this is how they approach every document, period. it’s an extrapolation of Harry Frankfurt’s On Bullshit: the “truth” of the text is irrelevant; it either serves or it doesn’t.

The Constitution will be treated exactly how the Bible is (as will all of the law): it will say what they need it to say, in the moment—and this time, with less push-back, because they’ve got a cultural core that believes this is how truth works.

Of particular interest, Stevens said, is overreach in federal Title IX regulations. The law protects people from discrimination based on sex at schools that receive federal funding — about 7,000 postsecondary institutions, at last count. The regulations cover recruitment, admissions, financial aid, athletics, and, most prominently, sexual harassment and assault. Falwell said the regulations require universities “to be judge, jury, police officer, and many times, there’s not enough evidence” for harassment cases to go forward. “Prosecutors don’t even take the cases,” he said. But schools are required to make a public announcement of what they concluded and “ruin a student’s life, when there’s not enough evidence for a case to even go forward.”

As of Feb. 2, over the course of 2 weeks:

Despite the lies the press secretary has told from the lectern, cable news networks are still giving Spicer a platform to spout his falsehoods. In nearly two weeks, Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC have devoted a combined 14 hours, 58 minutes and 49 seconds of uninterrupted airtime to Spicer’s briefings. Of that total, 3 hours, 19 minutes and 41 seconds were spent on Spicer’s introductions, where he reads, more or less, from a press release and spouts the administration’s talking points.

Essentially, cable networks have relinquished airtime to show unfiltered White House propaganda. And it’s not just cable news; some broadcast networks have followed suit, breaking from scheduled midday coverage to listen to Spicer’s lies while other outlets stream the briefings live on Facebook.

In a letter delivered today to chief state school officers, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos provided clarity on Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) implementation, in light of the actions related to the postponement of the accountability regulations and the Congressional Review Act. The letter emphasizes that states should continue to move forward and that the Department will work to ensure that state education leaders have the state and local flexibility that Congress intended. States should continue to follow the timeline for developing and submitting their plans for review and approval, building on the work they have already completed. The Department will provide further guidance on the state plan requirements by March 13, 2017.

“States have been working diligently on ESSA plans,” says Secretary DeVos, “and today’s letter makes clear that the Department remains committed to faithfully implementing the law as Congress intended. I remain committed to working alongside local education leaders to ensure they have the flexibility to craft education plans that make the most sense for the parents and students they serve.”

Not just afraid of Trump and his supporters, but afraid of how do you even cover this? This would be the kind of story that could blow up the entire government of a superpower.

As much as I want the GOP to crash and burn…if I were a reporter, I might not want to look too deeply because I don’t want to be the one that blows the country up.

Reporters should dig in as thoroughly, deeply and honestly as they possibly can to get the whole story. Then the editors, managers and legal council have to be brave enough to publish the whole truth. There’s a lot of places that a publisher might want to pull back (out of fear, for one), but it shouldn’t be the reporter who shortchanges the story.

House of Dereon is a fashion line started by Beyonce and her mother, Tina, who’s also a stylist. The style and concept is inspired by generations of women in their family, with the name “Dereon” paying homage to Tina’s mother, Agnez Dereon. For fans who love Beyonce, clothing and fashion are always penultimate to her work as an entertainer. Dereon clothes are sexy yet practical. The designs combine hip-hop influences juxtaposed with ultrafeminine flourishes (like embroidery and ruffles), thus giving the line a street edge. The Dereon clothing line was first introduced on The Oprah Winfrey Show and in the smash hit “Single Ladies (Put A ring On It),” Beyonce name checks the brand’s “Dereon jeans.”

Dereon clothing has branched into a junior line that’s price friendly and targeted torwards a younger crowd. Dereon dresses, Dereon shoes and Dereon handbags epitomize the company’s tagline “Where the sidewalk and catwalk meet.” The line includes casualwear such as Dereon sweaters, Dereon shirts and sweatpants, even Dereon jumpsuits.

Today the Dereon brand also caters to the full figured woman with Dereon plus sizes and to an even younger audience with Dereon kids. And as Dereon fashion continues to grow, their accessories game is keeping pace Dereon jewelry is now part of the fashion house’s offerings.

I made a point of letting two of my Utah friends know about this. One of them is already on record that he will drive to Provo the next time Chaffetz has a meeting (since Chaffetz allegedly said he’d never go to another town hall outside of Provo). The other is a professor who teaches in the Provo area (but not at BYU). He has quite the following. *smirk*

On my Facebook feed, I have yet to come across a Trump supporter that doesn’t fit at least one of two self-defined groups:
1) religious fundamentalists intent of some stage of Christian dominion;
2) racist/bigot fantasists.

Quite telling.

As time rolls on and the disaster of Trump unfolds, it will be interesting to see how these two groups change.

The first group will probably just do the usual and repeat religious mantras, believing in the magic of words.

The second group though will likely lash out in some ugly ways.

What a little putz.

Chaffetz said the crowd that filled the auditorium at Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights and spilled over into a protest outside included people brought in from other states to disrupt the meeting.

Absolutely. I know there were,” he said, suggesting it was “more of a paid attempt to bully and intimidate” than a reflection of the feelings of his 3rd District constituents.

Asked who would foot the bill to fill the audience with outside agitators, Chaffetz said, “do some reporting” and described how one participant made it a point to say he was not being paid by a national Democratic organization.

In the UK, whenever a political leader expresses “full confidence” in a scandal-embroiled underling, that usually means said underling will be out within the month.

Reminds me of the time a district mgr. asked me how a recent hire was doing, and I said, ‘Pretty OK, really’. That became our code for ‘Sucks, big time’ because I fired the guy a week later. The boss sent me flowers for doing it, because he was too soft-hearted to fire anybody, whereas I had to work with the guy.

It is sort of that way here in America too. Especially in sports. If you get a vote of confidence it means you’re in your job until a proper replacement is found. Works that way in business oftentimes.

Normally, you’d probably be right, but “normal” is an increasingly inapt standard to apply to the horrorshow that is the Donald Trump Administration. My guess is that the Pres is either going to:

1) ignore the scandal entirely
2) deny that there even IS a “scandal”
3) blame the media
4) go on a rage-filled Twitter rant blasting “fake news”, “losers”, “enemies”, etc.

And knowing Donald, probably in reverse order….

I think the media is genuinely afraid. This story is a tiger by the tail sort of thing, and perhaps they’re waiting for more to come out or more to be confirmed. A tip of the iceberg.

I mean no disrespect when I say bullshit. The media had no problem with wall to wall coverage of fake Clinton scandals. The last one leaked by the FBI wasn’t even about her at all. The media have been Republican enablers for decades. They are a major part of the problem. They did the exact same thing during the Bush years.
