A Bombshell From the NY Times: The Trump Gang Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence During the Campaign

Feces makes contact with rotating wind circulator
Politics • Views: 45,324

I’ll just quote the first two paragraphs of this bombshell article from the New York Times, but you should read the whole thing to see how the feces is truly hitting the fan for the Trump gang: Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence.

And this was during the campaign, while Russia was trying to disrupt and tilt the election toward Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON — Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time that they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.

I just cannot get over my immense anger that this legitimate investigation was kept secret during the election while the bullshit non-story re-opening of the FBI email investigation was publicized and used for maximum political damage.

Drip. Drip. Drip.

Each day we’ll see new and more salacious revelations of just how thoroughly compromised the Trump campaign/admin truly is, and that the warning signs were there from the moment he surrounded himself with a bunch of people with curious ties to Putin and various Russians.

Heck, Trump had very weird ties to certain Russians, and no one is still sure just what he owes to Russian businessmen and banks, because his business operations are opaque.

But he brought on Manafort (named in the article), who has significant ties to the Russians. He brought on Stone. He brought on Flynn. And Tillerson.

And about the time that the GOP convention took place, the GOP changed their platform to a much more Russia-friendly approach re: Ukraine. No one has been able to satisfactorily answer who/what/why that happened, other than Trump wanted it?

No, the reality is that Putin wanted it, and he got it, along with a compromised US government whose foreign policy is a shambles, and their domestic agenda isn’t much better. Incompetent, unprepared, and extremists abound, and few have any actual experience running a federal agency.

Now that hard evidence that the Trump campaign was repeatedly in contact with Russian intelligence regarding interference in the US elections is public, the only thing left is the other shoe dropping, where there is a recording of Donald Trump himself coordinating the Russian espionage with his own campaign.

Congressional Republicans can no longer ignore this, because it is now at the point where their own political futures are at stake as well.

Shhh. Don’t let the Republicans know how bad it is. Let them keep trying to paste over the bad. Then, when it all falls apart the damage will be more lasting.

The Internet is forever, and we can go back and see how things were reported/covered during the campaign, and how people were questioning all the weirdness with Russia and the Trump campaign.

Like Manafort’s actions:

Bannon/Conway took over just days later from that revelation.

Right before the inauguration we learned Manafort is under active investigation by the CIA, NSA, FBI, ODNI and FinCEN.

Yeah, they’ll be the ones bitching that the liberals are stealing the government when they’re actually the ones preserving it against a foreign and domestic threat to the US Constitution and upholding their oaths of office.

None of the GOPers right now are doing that. None are upholding and defending the Constitution against threats foreign or domestic. Not when they’re busy deflecting from just how compromised the administration is - and that includes everyone from Trump on down to his picks for cabinet. All of them. Pence too.

And Ryan.

We’re going to have a constitutional crisis on our hands, and the beneficiary is Putin. It was avoidable had anyone listened all through last summer when Trump’s Russia ties were becoming more and more apparent (and his obfuscation got even more opaque).

If people cared about this country, like Republicans and Fox and Hannity and all the other shit stains SHOULD be, they’d be looking for ways for Republicans to figure out an exit plan for Trump (pressure him, bribe him, figure out a way for him to save face by resigning, or arrest him, whatever) to get out and then get in and right the ship. If they do this quick they can minimize the damage to their party before the 2018 elections.

This is clearly why John Lewis called Trump an illegitimate President and refused to attend the Inauguration. How can the FBI be charged with investigating any of this since they are clearly compromised, starting with James Comey. Maybe Comey should be looking for an attorney.

I’m actually wondering if this is why he did that, and why Dems stormed out of a classified briefing in a fury. At this point, i wouldn’t be surprised to find out it was something different we STILL don’t know about…

One of President Donald Trump’s first actions in office was to sign an executive order on January 24 expediting the approval of the Keystone XL. Owned by TransCanada, this tar sands oil pipeline was halted by former President Barack Obama in November 2015. Trump signed another order on January 24, calling for steel for U.S. pipelines to be made in the U.S. to the “maximum extent possible,” and two days later TransCanada filed a new presidential permit application for Keystone XL with the U.S. Department of State.

Critics, such as John Kemp of Reuters, pounced on the caveat language in Trump’s steel order and noted that it appears “designed to preserve lots of wiggle-room.” In fact, a DeSmog investigation reveals that much of the steel for Keystone XL has already been manufactured and is sitting in a field in rural North Dakota.

DeSmog has uncovered that 40 percent of the steel created so far was manufactured in Canada by a subsidiary of Evraz, a company partly owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, who is a close ally of Putin and a Trump family friend. Evraz has also actively lobbied against provisions which would mandate that Keystone XL’s steel be made in the U.S.

This is honestly the way I see it. Remember that Trump had to talked into nominating Pence and had immediate and severe buyer’s remorse, reportedly seeking ways he could rescind the nomination and go with one of his established minions like Giuliani. He and Pence have never been close and I’m absolutely positive that Trump has been nurturing a wound over Pence’s apoplectic reaction to the Access Hollywood tape. The biggest sin in Donald Trump’s world is perceived disloyalty, he’s never really trusted Pence and he never will.

Add to that the fact that as first in the line of succession Pence has a definite incentive to see Trump forced into resignation, so long as the dirt doesn’t blow back too hard on him, and you have a serious recipe for distrust.

As usual, it is not the original offense but the coverup that is the problem. The Post reported that acting attorney general Sally Q. I like how that last story references Gerald Ford as someone who can repair the Republican Party’s severely damaged reputation. Problem is, there isn’t one. The lunatics in the party chased out the pragmatists from all leadership positions over a decade ago, and they don’t have anyone in the wings qualified to pick up the pieces - once you get past Trump’s band of proto-fascists, you run into the Christian Taliban wing of neo-Confederates who want to implement their own flavor of Dominionism on the entire populace, and to coin a Freudian term, are America’s id. No rational thought need apply.

re: #237 Don’t Blame Me, I Voted for Kodos

I like how that last story references Gerald Ford as someone who can repair the Republican Party’s severely damaged reputation. Problem is, there isn’t one. The lunatics in the party chased out the pragmatists from all leadership positions over a decade ago, and they don’t have anyone in the wings qualified to pick up the pieces - once you get past Trump’s band of proto-fascists, you run into the Christian Taliban wing of neo-Confederates who want to implement their own flavor of Dominionism on the entire populace, and to coin a Freudian term, are America’s id. No rational thought need apply.

Valid point. I’ll doubt they’ll run to Sen. Susan Collins at this point, who could fill the bill but has absolutely no standing w/ the rest of her party.

Yeah, but the guy with roller is Spicer, right?

My “read” of the reference would be that Spicer’s in the saloon whore role in that photo.

(Now I bathe in hydrogen peroxide to clean myself after that sentence.)

I’m left feeling like the FBI wanted Republicans in charge, and knew before he took office that they’d remove him in a few months.

Trump may die in a federal prison, but we’re still left with a stolen election, and at least one stolen supreme court seat.

The madman is going down, but evil won.

If this goes south for them, how do any appointments stand?

There’s a few out there… Kevin Faulkner the mayor of San Diego. What makes him reasonable? He’s smart enough to oppose Trump and not run for statewide office (at least not for another cycle)

We wind up with Pence or Ryan picking SC Justices.

Had the FBI not interfered in the election with the email nonsense and suppressing the Trump scandal, Clinton would be making that choice.

One last thought before crashing for the night.

How long until guys like “Little Marco” and “Lying Ted” decide they can gain points by jumping back off the Trump wagon and calling for Trump to be dealt with? The first off the wagon and on the bus backing over Trump.

Those two, beyond the others in the Republican primaries, have the biggest axes to grind with Trump and they can’t always be counted on to stay party loyal over self-interests.

In other words, both are snakes that can’t be trusted. Wouldn’t surprise me if they hook up with Graham and McCain and turn on Trump thinking it will help future politics. Like both already thinking of 2020.

re: #57 JasonA

“*people who actually paid attention during the campaign totally saw this coming”

EXACTLY. I think the problem was that many who voted for Trump consciously denied the information about his and his team’s ties to Russia and voted for him anyway. I also think they voted for him mainly based on the fact that he was host of a TV show and is an alleged billionaire. For those with this mindset, voting these has little to do with placing the interests of themselves and the nation above all else. I’m now thinking that some of them are beginning to see that Trump’s promise to “drain the swamp” is morphing into actually expanding the swamp with executive orders and major scandals. He is making, and has made, so many missteps in a short period of time that in order to ignore them, one has to place party before country.

Thanks. For the longest time, I thought I was the only one on the left who felt something about his wasn’t quite right. He always appeared to me to be someone who was more interested in boosting himself than in anything else.

At the Donny McCaslin Quartet gig last night (which was excellent), the band came out after intermission and Donny quietly said “Mike Flynn resigned.” When the cheering died down, he added, “We’re a full-service operation here, music and political commentary.” The keyboard player was wearing a pro-Standing Rock T-shirt, too. Did I mention they were excellent?

Soul searching? The truth is right in your face. We have a de facto Civil War currently ongoing which pits about 35% of the country (composed of mainly white more rural and suburbanites) against the rest of the country. About 60-65% of whites in the country are at war with everyone else.

In this war, they are using every means possible in using colluding with traditional enemies of the United States and its Constitution. They have constructed their own propaganda network, alternate reality bulwark, alternate religious belief system of Evangelical Churches, and contacts with like-minded fringe groups across Europe.

They are willing to throw every single aspect of recognizable national patriotism, ethics and actual teachings of Jesus out the window in order to further their ideology. After all, this is war.

re: #26 Myron Falwell

The inactions of Chaffetz, Ryan and McConnell scream of absolute complicity.

Which is the $64,000 question: what do we do? Because the longer and longer Chaffetz sticks his fingers in his ears and scream SOOOORRRRROOOOSSSSS!!1!!!!1!!, and the louder the opposition grows… something is going to snap.

Well, the first thing might be pushing onto McConnell’s and Ryan’s Twitter feeds:

What did you know and when did you know it? Start impugning their so-called impartiality?

It’s not even fake news or JAQing off. At this point it is now a legitimate question.
