Video: Trump’s Complete Unhinged Press Conference

YouTube

Because I can hardly believe what I watched earlier today (and I missed the first part), here’s the full video of Donald Trump’s marathon freakout session today.

Don’t miss the section in which he discusses uranium and how it’s used for things, sometimes even bad things. Or the numerous sections in which he says the press hates him and whines about the “tone” and the “venom” and the hmmm… glavin!

Seriously, I’ve never seen anything like this in all my years observing US politics. This guy is dangerously unhinged and unstable… but you knew that.

In addition to being tiny, his pink little hands betray the fact that this man has never done a day of work in his life.

Did Trump actually mention these dates when he talked about inheriting the ‘mess’?

That would be fucked in the head, even for POTUS* Trump.

Of course its normal for Republicans. Like anyone else they have friends (Republicans), enemies (everyone else) and tools or useful idiots they want to use against their enemies.

In this case, they want Time Warner to act as their satrap vs. CNN.

I’m at work so didn’t listen, but probably would not have anyway.

A friend, who tried listening on her car radio on her return home from errands, was aghast and couldn’t tolerate more than a few minutes. She said he was impolite, constantly interrupting, and not addressing the questions. She is totally bewildered on how somehow as incoherent as Trump could be elected,

See my regional newspaper today on that:

Trump Supporters Cheer His Combative Stance with the Media (Goes to the Scottsbluff, NE Star-Herald))

CHARLESTON, w.va. (AP) — Critics of President Donald Trump saw in his Thursday news conference a combative, thin-skinned chief executive who continues to blame the media for the controversies roiling his administration.

His supporters saw something else: A champion of Middle America who is taking on the establishment and making good on his campaign promises to put the country first.

A guy was arrested in Myrtle Beach, SC today because he allegedly had a plan to shoot up a local area synagogue. His Facebook page indicates that he’s a white supremacist and an anti-Semite, so I guess he, too, can be identified as a left-wing anti-Semite in spite of all evidence to the contrary. He admitted to an undercover FBI agent that he wanted to honor Dylann Roof. Imagine that. One of the charges against him is for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. SMH.

As you say, this topic is a re-run, although I disagree with your characterization of it. It’s certainly true that the Democrats need to contest elections everywhere in a sustained and consistent way. What you have described of Democratic Party behavior in your locale is political malpractice.

It also remains true that Trump could be seen for what he is before the election even within the RWNJ reality distortion zone — e.g., RedState NeverTrumpers. They thought he would lose and damage the brand, and most have since dropped their objections out of expediency, but they still saw the Orange Menace for what he is (sometimes including both his racism and fascism). If some RedStaters could see that, so could anyone else in the nation, no matter how benighted their news sources are.

I was befuddled by that question for a very long time.

And please leave Kentucky out of your future arguments (Electoral College and otherwise) about this because Nebraska is not all of red state America. Every state is different.

Fair enough. The argument isn’t making any headway here, so I presume there must be some flaw in my argument. I will refrain from advancing it again.

Of course he’s embarrassing to you and I, but his supporters are not embarrassed by his clown performance in today’s presser. They’re patting him and themselves on the back because Trump “told his enemies off in public.” With foreign intelligence agencies investigating an American president because their leaders know how dangerous Trump is, the Trump Cheerleaders don’t give a d*mn and appear to believe he’s elevating America’s status in the world to never before seen levels. In their minds, PBO drove down U.S. approval in other nations——the exact opposite of what really happened.

Imagine if Fox News had been around during the Civil War.

They would not have contented themselves with Confederate propaganda as it actually occurred such as: the slaves were too valuable to be routinely mistreated, or that they were mostly content with their lot, etc.

They would have gone all the way up Bullshit Mountain with some or all of these grade-A whoppers:

1) There was no slavery in the Confederacy.

2) Manacles and leg irons worn by some people in the Confederacy (who were not all black!) were voluntary fashion statements.

3) The Union forces fired the first shots at Ft. Sumter.

4) Evidence of slaves being brutalized was a false flag by abolitionists.

It really is disconcerting to realize how deeply dishonest Fox News is, and what its standard of lying looks like when applied to other historical periods.

I had a guinea pig (Brutus) when I was a freshman at University of Cincinnati back in 1970-71. When he died, we had a burial for him in the brick enclosure at the front of our building, complete with firecrackers and sparklers. Then we sealed the top. He’s still there after all these years.

Fun Factoid: When I was a freshmen, rules at UC said women had to live at their parents’ home, on campus in a dorm or at a sorority house if they were under 21 years old.
I lived in an off-campus apartment and never told the powers that be.
Young women today who say they don’t need legal protections have no freaking clue how things were back in the day.

Right now I’m covered under MrBWS’s IBEW union insurance, which is part of the union contract so there’s no real premium payment we see except for the weekly international union assessment (which includes the insurance). So Lineco will become my secondary insurance, except for the prescription part that will stay with Lineco.
I have enough problems already matching up insurance statements with medical bills, because sometimes they don’t quite match up and I have to get on the phone to sort things out.

Part of the problem is that Republicans just spent 8 years pissing and moaning about Obama being an illegitimate usurper in the White House and the nation survived.

So they see the anti-Trump reaction as being the same kind of agitation they just got done with.

The crucial difference is that the Republican ‘case’ for the illegitimacy of Obama was a tissue of lies, while POTUS* Trump is illegitimate for at least half a dozen independent and real reasons.

An interesting comment on that Richard Dawkins Foundation article:

The Electoral model was designed when communication was not instantaneous between millions of voters and there was no way someone from Nebraska could know a nominee for President. Now, there is no such a thing as underrepresented areas because of lack of communication: even in the remotest areas of the US has a smartphone and access to the internet! So now the system is unfair to Urban dwellers and their votes count far less, e.g. 1 to 3 in case of Wyoming versus California. So although there is always a risk a populist fooling all USA and it is not zero, the chance of fooling margin states protected by Electoral college is far more than fooling all US population! And if such a thing happens and a Trump like populist manages to win all US, be it. Human society have been learning from their mistakes and evolving as a whole, as Germany did! There is no way we can prevent every mistake, without making any mistake!

That is a person who apparently never travelled outside a city.

The remotest areas of the US do not have access to smartphones and Internet. Vast portions of the USA are covered by neither.

I have good reasons for calling Trump voters the pig-people. They voted for Trump either because Trump is a ginormous asshole or because they didn’t care that Trump is a ginormous asshole.

There are people who voted for him because he was a “billionaire” who had “successful” businesses throughout the world and knew how to get people working, as well as the candidate opposed to TPP. They believed the “alternative” facts from Breitbart, etc, and cannot be dissuaded otherwise. They think that Trump was playing Putin and is brilliant. So pig-people may be an unfair characterization of most of them — stupid may be a more appropriate appellation.

Yes, that map represents General Election visits, not primary visits. Considering the huge number of Republican candidates in the Republican Primary, the number of visits shown on the map could not possibly include that.

Republicans were scrambling for every primary vote during their primary season. To the extent their campaign war chests allowed, they travelled to every state to scrape up votes. Democrats did the same.

We are spectacularly bad at communicating with each other, perhaps because of a clash of reading and writing styles. So one last time:

I mentioned RedState not because I was assuming your neighbors read it, but because I was assuming (reasonably IMO) that the only media RedStaters looked to for assistance in forming their opinion is precisely the sanitized version of Trump you refer to above.

A nontrivial fraction of these RedStaters were not fooled by this sanitized image of Trump.

Therefore the power of this sanitized image of Trump is not absolute, even among hard core right wing nut jobs.

Well, perhaps I misunderstood what you meant by your statement.

I would love to win the Lotto and open a radio station or newspaper, even if it lost money, just to produce a counterpoint to the incessant Christian/hate radio propaganda (along with some good music to draw in an audience).

There is Internet access, through the telephone company.

Even though I am not exactly rich, I am wealthier than most of the people in my town. It costs 5% of my income.

As such, I am the only person in town with Internet service.

My internet is through my telephone company for $26.99 a month.
It’s crap service (I posted my speed the other night when you posted yours that is lightspeed faster than mine) but it’s the only game in town, so to speak, unless I decide to go with satellite internet. We’re wealthy, compared to most everyone else in this county, but I’m still undecided on the satellite option because it’s really pricey.

These phone lines in the holler have been here since the 1940s. Nothing has changed since then.

My neighbours have.

My wireless WiFi is open without a password, so three or four houses around me can access the Internet through my WiFi if they have computers. I intentionally keep my WiFi open for just such a reason.

Where I’m at damn near every house around me has internet, so our WiFi is password protected.

My Internet service is $110 a month. When you break down the telephone bill, it is about two-thirds of the bill.

By comparison, a year’s subscription to my regional newspaper is about $60.

Fuck them. Pig-people is already a Driftglass trademark anyway.

I’m a firm believer in the “all of the above” school of activism, where marches, reasoned arguments, ACT-UP style confrontations with officials, and rude commentary all have their uses.

When people vote for the likes of Donald Trump there is value in calling that out as the act of a pig-person.

Is that legal?

As for “pig people” I suppose there is no difference between those who were mislead and those who have access to other information? Like those with cable service, or Internet service (I pay 5% of my income for access to the Internet)?

I don’t really think calling the people of my town “pig people” will do much to advance a liberal message.

There is a difference between those who were misinformed and/or were underinformed (e.g., your example above) and the very base who will keep wearing the “deplorable” handle like a fucking badge of honor well after Trump’s inevitable downfall, be it contained to just himself, the entire GOP, or in the deaths of untold millions in a ball of flames.

My former boss falls solidly in the latter; those who just can’t be helped and refuse to be helped. He’s 63 and fits the standard Fox viewer demo that Bill O’Really and Lumpy scream at every night. Only cared about how much money he could make. Forgiveness is awfully tough towards someone who not only screwed me over, but helped screw the lives of billions over with his piggish vote, and I fully confess to being an imperfect person.

As for your corner of the world… I mean, I’m seeing Trump reaching underwater status in Iowa. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it drift that way in Nebraska. There is hope.

So no, it shouldn’t be a blanket term beyond the absolute worst of the worst.

Sit back kids and hear today’s weird story from the Backwoods holler:

This afternoon I let the dogs out back into the extremely large fenced-in area, as I do several hundred times during the course of a typical day.
The Jack Russell Terror eventually barks to come in and I, the dutiful human, open the door at her command.
But then I see…
the goofy hound has something in the yard THAT WAS NOT THERE when I let them out.
It looks like some long curled up cardboard and I’m all like WTF is that and where did they get it?
I walk out and gaaaah!!!! it’s a deerskin!
About two and a half feet long and eight inches wide, but it’s a freaking deerskin with hair still on it.
And only slighty dried out..it’s still flexible.

All things considered, my best guess is that it fell from the sky…

The Trumpers I know are educated and have access to information from diverse sources. Among them, one person is a PhD in history(!) who according to mutual friends was a birther; another, who lives in Texas, travels regularly to Europe and Asia for his employer and has friends in these other countries. You would think with their backgrounds they would know better. Maybe it really is like a cult and you sacrifice your independence of thought to be part of a larger movement. The same people who not so vaguely threatened you and made you feel physically insecure within very recent memory? If they really need it they can ask you for the password, you can restrict it to known devices and log access. As unlikely as trouble may be just letting any rando that drives through town hop onto your network is straight up asking for it.

Setting a simple password that you share with your neighbors would achieve this goal and give you a bit more security.

That’s true; I didn’t think of that.

I could use the one Sean Spicer tweeted the other day. /s

Seriously though, in range of my wireless is the house across the street, the house next to me, the church across the other street, and the village park. There really isn’t much in the way of a threat to my computer in a town of 124 people.

That said, leaving it totally open makes a threat to my or my wife’s computers a possibility (however remote).

I think I’ll take up your idea, thank you.

I pay $54.99/month for dedicated DSL service with no landline phone. It’s top-of-the-line DSL service, though; the only way to get faster service would be to go to cable, but the cable provider implemented bandwidth caps a couple of years ago, so I cut that cord when we started doing streaming TV and more online gaming.

re: #252 Hecuba’s daughter

Same with me.

It’s not that people don’t have access to information, it’s that they pick sources that flatter them and condemn people who are different. This includes some racism and sexism, but really the ceiling is much higher than a specific -ism: it’s a sense that their tribe is best, and every other tribe is inferior. The refusal to empathize is the starting point, not the end point, of their politics. They don’t want to understand, they don’t want to see things other ways. They feel attacked when someone suggests they don’t have all the information, and they “defend” with direct insults, not counter-arguments.

The “nicest” Trump supporters I know are people who just don’t ask questions or see the need to read beyond a soundbite’s length. Just talked to a dude who thought Iran had actual nukes, didn’t know there were other countries involved, never heard of the nuclear triad. But before I started talking, he was 100% confident in his “read” of the situation.

The problem isn’t as simple as rallying the Democratic Party flag: there’s an information problem, a cultural problem. People don’t know how to test a claim and find facts. They’re flooded with narratives that are rhetorically cunning—-straightforward hero/villain antics, big emotions—but designed to overwrite what actually happened.

And the last thing, which I think has to be paid attention to: at the bottom of the cultural problem is the idea that liberals are inherently bad people. We’re baby killers, pagans, hippies that spit on veterans, et cetera. Even “smart” conservatives like David Brooks falls back to this position whenever convenient (read, for example, his condemnation of Iraq war critics) For years and years, the “right” (which isn’t really conservative, just reactionary and authoritarian) has cultivated the idea that there is no discussion to be had, that anything can be justified—and anything excused—because they’re fighting the Satanic baby-killers.

The phone company tells me this laughable “broadband lite” (it’s about as good as dialup on good days) is the best I can get due to equipment limits. My nearest neighbor (about 1/16 of mile away if that) has full broadband and can stream movies and everything.

I actually think he didn’t know. He probably suspected it, but I think there really is a rift between him and Trump that resulted in him being frozen out on this. We kind of forget how fragile their relationship was during and after the Access Hollywood tape but I’ve seen nothing to indicate it’s been repaired since then. Pence being kept out of the loop is also totally consistent with the rest of the chaos that’s surrounded the administration, there’s just bucketloads of drama and dysfunction going on over there.

Do you pay 5% of your income to access the Internet? Curious.

Probably. The only way I can get it is via rooftop satellite dish, and it is quite expensive. I figure about 10 x faster than dialup, and cable is probably 10 x faster than this. I can handle the speed. The problem is the monthly data limit. I hit it a lot, and the only way to get around is to pay through the nose. Since I work online, sometimes I just have to pay.

You could probably pay through the nose to get them to extend the lines to your residence. And when I say “pay through the nose,” I mean it; our company is going through this in trying to get fiber run to our office building. It’s literally right across the train tracks from the end of the run, but of course, that run is exorbitantly expensive.

It’s a fine line to walk. Too much ignorance and you paint yourself as an easy mark, and nobody wants an easy mark as president. Too much knowledge and you get swept up in corruptnado that eventually takes down Trump.

My Internet service is $110 a month. When you break down the telephone bill, it is about two-thirds of the bill.

By comparison, a year’s subscription to my regional newspaper is about $60.

Yep, mine is higher than that. Sigh.

I could definitely see Pence as the standard “wake up and ask how the president’s health is and then sit around doing nothing all day” sort of Vice President. Especially considering Trump’s typical disdain for anyone outside his inner circle

Looking forward to joining the discussion. I really appreciate the sanity and sheer amount of info his place provides. Also love how much thought, work and functionality Charles has put into this space. It’s really impressive.

One thing I’m likely to do, is provide tidbits from having lived in what many call “the hood”. This will include unfair expenses (hood taxes), resource inaccessibility, disparate treatment from service providers and unique environmental and infrastructure neglect. (shout out Flint). Then we can discuss how somehow these areas still produce voters who don’t sign up for bigotry and destructiveness. Should be good times! ;)

Since I’m new in the house and have good manners, I’m going to chill and enjoy the drinks for a while first.

When I lived in Illinois, the phone company installed fiber back in the late 80s to us out in farmland. I was amazed at how much faster my dialup became. Mind you, we are talking about the days BEFORE the WorldWideWeb became a thing. I had an .edu account back in those days.

Remember. Donald doesn’t understand why you have something you will not use. maybe a little one. Maybe a smaller one. Depends on the wording, the intent, the walk up and completion of the fix. Everybody has someone to burn, why not put a couple bucks in your pocket and enhance your status in the world of your fevered selfish mind. Somebody else always cleans it up, and we had atomic weapons dropped before and these are more controlled. Why not? But who? Maybe Putin can find proof of a suspect terror attack against one of my properties, with Americans in them. Would that work? Or a ship off the coast around the world. Korean? Chinese? Sudanese? Think. The only way to save massive US lives would be to nuke the threat. Only way. We lose a few brave souls, but we show the world. Yes. STEVE!!! Work on this….I have to tweet about the lying cheating media playing me for a fool. I could have shot some ass on 5th ave and lost nothing. Let’s see where this goes…BANNON!!! BAAANNNOOON!
