Trump Horror, Day 28: Labels the Press “The Enemy of the American People”

And commits a possible violation of the Presidential Records Act
Politics • Views: 42,312

Donald Trump’s paranoia is increasing to dangerous levels, as more and more trash fires erupt in his administration. And in time-honored right wing demagogue fashion, he’s demonizing the press and the media.

Today he took his unsecure Android phone again, in the middle of the afternoon, and posted two tweets in succession. The first one was quickly deleted, and people who noticed thought it might be because he recognized it was over the line even for him. A screenshot:

But then a few minutes later he reposted the same tweet — but added ABC and CBS to his enemies list. So he didn’t delete it because it was over the line, but because it wasn’t far enough over the line.

This is incredibly reckless and dangerous rhetoric. The president of the US is openly inciting hatred and possible violence against media companies, and delegitimizing the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

And there’s more; deleting that first tweet may very well have been a violation of the Presidential Records Act.

We are getting whipped up into a mentality that since he can do no wrong, the only wrongdoers are the ones who dare to point out what he has actually done rather than simply repeat his version of things..

and there is a good chance he can get away it, as with his claim of getting away with “shooting someone down on Fifth Avenue”

He’s a classic abuser so if something big doesn’t drop he might convene some secret meetings with the press to plead about how he had to hit them and he’s really a great guy that loves them and deep down they love him too. Ugggh

Is it wrong for me to question his mental health?

No, no it isn’t.

It’s necessary and patriotic for me to do so. An attack on the fifth estate is an attack on the American people- no more no less.

BlueGrl21  Feb 17, 2017 • 3:05:19pm

This is what people like Trump do.

They control people via information. Choosing what to say, lying to multiple people about the same events to pit them against each other. Keeping people isolated from truth.

So when he can’t use that tool to manipulate BECAUSE the “truth is out there,” he’s blind and deaf and dumb. Game over. He’s attacking the people that are HIS biggest threat…the press and the intelligence community.

Telling someone what is true after they’ve been lied to, exposing that truth, is one of the most powerful weapons there is. Maybe the most powerful.

I may have used the tactic of exposing truth to cause a person or two at work with Trump’s proclivities to shoot themselves down. Forced to quit or fired after years of lying. I get on a new team, spot the lies, tell everyone the same truth, boom. Then I get turned on for telling the truth….and I wait. They eventually cross the line going after me and they are gone right after.

Let’s all hope Trump follows the pattern.

There are stovetop espresso makers for like $15 bucks.

If you want a machine - with pods - is go with Nespresso - about $80 on Amazon. There are also machines that use loose espresso but I’m not familiar enough to recommend.

They’re some of the dumbest mfkers on the planet. My youngest brother lives in Washington State and works for Boeing as an electrician. He makes more money than workers at the SC plant because the plant is unionized. I recall that when Sanford brokered the deal for the SC plant, he and his RW supporters in the state legislature gave Boeing all kinds of goodies and was sure to tell the company that SC was a right-to-work state. I used to read The State, SC’s largest newspaper, and I remember well how many were commenting on the site about workers getting paid $10.00 was a yuuge deal. Dummies. It pains me to see some Americans hurt themselves to appease the wealthy. No way would Boeing executives work for $10.00 an hour.

I met my new landlord today. He’s owned the building for almost two weeks. I met his dad the day it sold, he actually took care of the transaction. The dad looked at the building when it sold last time, a few years ago, and knows my old landlord (everybody does). His mom is the nurse who supervised my case for my health ins. co., and after she had done that for a year, her son was hit while driving and got a TBI (and other injuries) so she had new insight to my situation. When she was taken off my case, she asked permission to stay in touch socially, which I gave, of course. Now that son is my landlord. He bought the bldg. with ins. settlement proceeds. He just graduated from high school, and the folks are setting him up in the landlord business to be self-sufficient. He worked on the roof today, so it’s good to see him involved to that extent (I don’t go up there anymore). I think my old landlord decided he couldn’t be that involved after he dug up the sewer line himself.

Small town. Not as small as Anymouse’s, but small enough. I also met the guy who had his business at the other end of the block when I opened mine. I lost the sale, though, because I talked him into trying the clipless pedals that came on his bike.

Trump would like to be an authoritarian, but I think it’s because he thinks that he should be allowed to run the country like a business. But our country cannot be run that way.

Republicans have no problem at all with running the US as if it were a 3rd world kleptocracy under a dictator, as long as that continues to poll well with the deplorables of their base.

That fucking “Come Boost My Self-Esteem” putsch Trump is holding tonight is going to be beyond shit show. I wouldn’t be surprised if security/law enforcement/Secret Service steps aside and lets a journalist get murdered.

Ever since that Navy Humvee went tooling around KY with a Trump flag, I’m getting really worried that the military and law enforcement are just waiting for the chance to start hurting people they don’t like; aka, people who aren’t Trump supporters.

Been just thinking of another parallel with Lenin’s revolution… the fact that the very term “Bolshevik” itself was a lie since it translates to “majority,” when Lenin represented a radical minority of Russian communist thought. Likewise, they labeled their opponents Mensheviks, (minority) of the population.

Lenin showed you don’t need to be an actual majority, you just have to have the majority of the power, by force and intimidation if necessary. No wonder Bannon sees Lenin’s blueprint as his own.

133
freetoken  Feb 17, 2017 • 3:56:33pm

I do not believe we should really worry much any more about going Godwin, given what we have before us.

But as I’ve tried to emphasize before, the type of “fascism” we will experience will be unique. History does not repeat. At best the fascistic states of the 20th century only give us insight into what we are becoming.

What we are seeing is the religious fundamentalists in this country dropping any pretense of requiring piety of any leader which promises them power.

In parallel with this, and supportive of this, we are seeing vested industrial/energy private enterprises working to ensure that their control of riches - that is, natural resources - is not controlled by the population at large.

This works well with the concentration of great wealth into the hands of the few.

Now, I believe this is an unstable proposition. Eventually the Trumpers will implode and turn on themselves.

But the damage that will be done will be unfortunate regardless of how long or short a time it takes for our society to work this out.

People are going to get killed with statements like this.

The press are being labelled as the new abortion clinics.

Just a matter of time. Media are much more vulnerable than abortion providers since they have to get out where the action is to report on it. Big outlets and big name reporters can afford top flight security, though it might constrain their movements. Smaller outlets and lesser known people are terrifyingly easy targets for the nuts. Theoretically, the entire resources of the government should be available to protect the free press but with the government as the instigator of the problem, that isn’t going to happen.
This is how it will happen. Bannon will not send federal agents or even local police out to round up reporters. The ACLU would be all over them in a heartbeat, with millions of new supporters in the wings. Instead, they will use their plausibly deniable proxy army of ammosexuals, rogue cops, dominionist militias, and other crazies, probably aided and abetted by fascist elements in law enforcement. They have been grooming this proxy army for years and it is almost ready to act.
Not surprisingly, this is the pattern Putin has used in Ukraine and elsewhere. Instead of regular Russian troops he uses “volunteer” militias, private security contractors, and criminal gangs of every possible configuration.

Add this to his attempt to demonize of the press. *

The White House says this AP report ‘100% not true’

He promised a round up force and it looks like he is making good on it regardless of what the GOP mouth pieces claim.

* Yeah, I know it’s a GOP propaganda site. But if they are saying the MSM is lying (like their boss) then there is a good chance he is at least considering it. And given the number of republican governors who have refused to learn from Georgia’s debacle about migrant workers, our agriculture sector is going to tank this summer/fall. Not to mention the hit the construction sector is going to take as well.

“How exactly does one engage rationally with highly irrational people??”

It’s impossible for one who lives in the real world to have a meaningful conversation with another who lives in an alternate reality. I’ve noticed that many on the right believe what they believe, and there’s no changing it. The media is Trump’s enemy therefore, it’s their enemy. There’s no need for them to prove this claim. They know in their gut that it’s true because Trump told them it was. Both Trump and his supporters are immune to the truth. I read an article on Raw Story earlier today about a Trump supporter who called a radio host and stated that he hates the media because the media lies about Trump. The host stopped him in his tracks when he asked him to provide one example of the media lying about something Trump has said. The caller responded by saying that he’d call back tomorrow with “proof.” The host informed him that he doesn’t work on Saturdays. When/if that caller calls back, he’ll be armed with BS from Breitbart, Infowars, Daily Caller, Fox, and other RW cesspool outlets.

Fringe Trumpists are of the ‘kill the libtards’ persuasion, while even the fiercest criticism of Trump voters mostly comes down to ‘how could you be so fucking stupid and evil?’.

Based on Trump torpedoing Tillerson’s pick for Deputy SecState, and killing the Harward pick by insisting on choosing his deputies, I don’t think there’ll be much need to slow down the confirmations. But they may need to confirm new Cabinet Secretaries.

Nothing about this is unique to Trump. It is Republican SOP, and Trump is just more blatant about it then previous Republicans were. Trump found electoral gold in the realization that the Fox News crowd will absolutely believe 2+2=5 or any similar level of absurdity if it is politically useful to do so.

They may not be pleased at the present time, but they were overjoyed when they voted for him on November 8, 2016. They bought all of the hype, lies, conspiracy theories and BS, and are now having second thoughts. My dearly departed parents used to call what they did “Buying a Pig in a Poke.” They got duped. I recall that before the election, many Trump supporters said they thought he was highly intelligent. I can well imagine that after yesterday’s presser, some of them are beginning to change their minds. If they’re embarrassed about voting for him, they should be.

There are GOP partisans, and then there are Trump supporters. The former tend to use a lot of ‘Tu Quoque’ fallacy, aka ‘What About-ism’, while the latter are usually openly fascist. The former could be peeled off with the revelation of something truly appalling, but it would have to be something political or business related, like that Trump is literally owned by a Russian oligarch, whereas the latter will fly into the side of the mountain with him.

This distinction may not really exist, especially as long as the GOP base remains in love with Trump and his circus.

No GOP member of Congress will dare to independently decide whether or not Trump’s ownership by an Russian oligarch (if evidence for that comes out) matters. Everything will be decided by the polling among the meatheads in the relevant state or district.

What do people not get about this national guard proposal. Do they think that the NG will stop only illegal aliens? Do they think that US citizens will not be stopped or detained in the sweeps?

This is the idiocy that I see:

Right-o. People think that this is not going to affect them (as white people) so why worry about the illegality or constitutionality of these actions. Using the national guard for policing is an awful thing, and the military knows it (or should know it). There are specialized units that do law enforcement, but a general mobilization means you need a lot more troops - troops that aren’t trained in how to do policing or enforcement action.

Heck, we see ICE not following the law either (as Laurence Tribe is suing on behalf of one person who was coerced and whose “confession” was invented by ICE agents).

This entire thing is a shitstorm of epic proportions, and it’d be a horror show for angry white guys too.

So many of the historical ignorant forget that the Jews weren’t the first targets of the Nazis. Yes, the antisemitism was prominent in the rise of the Reich, but their original stated enemies were the communists. Which is how they came to power, as a counterpoint to the rising fear of a communist rebellion in Germany like that which had turned Russia into the USSR. Many a Jew voted for the Nazis thinking that they were only going after the communists and would never turn the tools of the state against them.

We saw this after Trump issued his Muslim Immigration Ban and some who voted for him were angry when their spouses and relatives couldn’t return to the U.S. They thought the things he was saying about Muslims when he was campaigning were OK and would have no impact on them. With all due respect, given the utterances from Day One I believe this is a concerted effort thanks to Bannon to make the base paranoid. I think it is wholesale propaganda and manipulation to increase paranoia overall. I think Trump is parroting the Nazi party line, whether with help or not, regardless of the level of his paranoia. He’s no more sick than a psychopath is sick and that means he will pump up the volume if need be. I see a planned trajectory. The Nazi admin is increasing the emotional pressure towards incitement to violence, that is all. I believe that is their chief goal now. There is nothing here that is not out of the Nazi playbook and Trump is happy to oblige.

It’s so obvious that the interpretations are driven by political convenience as opposed to any real principles.

For example, at the time the second amendment was drafted, “arms” would have presumably included swords. So under recent SCOTUS cases, there is presumably a damn near absolute right to be armed with a sword in public. Like that will ever happen.

As you can Imagine, I take specific interest in the 2nd Amendment.

OWNERSHIP was a big deal to the founders. The philosophical, theological and legal tangents of ownership of one’s body are very much pertinent.

Especially to women.

I am not sure there is any specific legal code that states women are not property or chattel of men. We are not citizens by birth as men are.

The legal history in regards to the status of women is clear —we were non-citizens in all cultures until very recently.

I’m not fond of its ambiguity, but at a more basic level I don’t think an absolute right to gun ownership makes sense. Having it as an enumerated right in the constitution is going to make it very close to absolute in practice.

THe right to use any weapon to defend oneself, and others (including some property) from emminent danger is what is not specifically worded in the Constitution. THe 2nd Amendment and the recent SCOTUS decision is the best we have.

Let’s not mess with it right now.

Some of the Trumpers I know have been running their yaps whining about how liberals are being intolerant by being upset with their conservative friends and family who supported Trump. I’m sorry but people are upset. They see a President that you supported that is implementing policies that can will hurt those they love. And we had to deal with their non stop Obama ragegasms and absurd accusations that Obama was out to ban Christianity and their guns.

8 years of “Nobama is the Anti-Christ! Anybody who supports him hates America!” doesn’t just go away because you won the election. Especially when you go around, getting into people’s faces with “He’s your president! You should respect him!” If you and your fellow dickheads are being made to feel bad by the people you know for supporting Trump, then you have the beginning of an inkling of how they have felt the last 8 years having you scream in their ears that they’re going to Hell for being a “librul.”

Well then how do we address gun violence. The problem is the 2nd often isn’t used for just self defense. The concept of firearms collecting was a foreign one to the Founders. I think we need to look at solutions to our gun violence problem. I’d love to live in a country where gun violence is rare. I am not idealistic enough to think it will be completely gotten rid of and we’ll have UK/Canada numbers but we can and ought to work to reduce it. Continuing with a 1789 interpretation of guns I think isnt’ gonna work.

re: #256 EPR-radar

It’s so obvious that the interpretations are driven by political convenience as opposed to any real principles.

For example, at the time the second amendment was drafted, “arms” would have presumably included swords. So under recent SCOTUS cases, there is presumably a damn near absolute right to be armed with a sword in public. Like that will ever happen.

No, there were rifles used in the American Revolution and King George tried/or did (I can’t remember) enact a gunpowder embargo on the American Colonies. Some decree in 1768 (I can’t remember what) was a big impetus for the Revolution.

Firearms were most definitely thought of as “arms” by the founders.

Yes, firearms have changed since the late 1700’s.

I agree the founders would have had written more specifically if auto-matic or semi-automatic weapons of war were available to the public at that time.

This is where I agree with most gun-control advocates. I don’t see an civilian purpose for more than a hunting rifle, shotgun or basic handgun.

Of course. My point is that swords would also have been thought of as ‘arms’ by the founders, and recent SCOTUS case law granting the absolute individual right to keep and bear arms should presumably cover at least guns and swords.

But the only real right out there is for being armed with guns. Wannabe sword-wielders are shit out of luck, and it has everything to do with politics and nothing to do with the rights supposedly granted in the Constitution.

I have no doubt that, in the event of a hypothetical Bernie presidency, he and/or his supporters would be out there assailing the leakers as remnants of the old guard, trying to discredit Bernie’s presidency by leaking damaging info to the press.

I said it earlier but I had serious doubts even when I was more sympathetic to Sanders about what kind of President he’d make. I actually probably take a different point of view regarding the far left, I think a lot of them are well meaning people but who stupidly think the best nominee is the one with the best voting record and they ignoer things like temperament, leadership skills, and ability to work with people. Three soft skills that Clinton had over Sanders.

I don’t disagree. I just think a lot needs to be done about the gun violence in this country. We could start by not letting the NRA write the rules for debating issues involving guns. More gun owners like RWC and less like Little Dick LaPierre who is a racist piece of shit.

The ambiguous language regarding the militia is what I mean here. Anyhow, the 2nd to me actually is why I had the biggest problem with Scalia’s and now likely Gorsuch’s Originalist judicial philosophy. We can’t get Rufus and the Phone Booth to get James Madison to San Dimas to ask him about how he intended the 2nd. Though, we should be using what we have got and the times we’re in.

The militia was the whole of the male populace aged 16 to 60. As the Founders were very leery of a standing army, a guarantee that the states could keep virtuous militias seemed to make sense. (note the idea that paid soldiery were morally inferior to an unpaid militia standing under arms for love of country was still in much vogue at the time)

However, militia duty was a serious civic obligation and was something like your tax burden today. You were expected to keep a weapon in good order and show up for drill.
