Reposting this thought from downstairs:

Adam Curtis’ documentary The Century of the Self (one of his better works IMO) comes to mind here, in regards to Trump, the media, and American society.

Perhaps the change wrought by advertising and the weaponization of advertising, if I may insert a concept into Curtis’ narrative, is even larger than Curtis thought.

The concept of the “self” as a consumer has brought about a form of hyper-materialism, and no one represents that better than Trump, and the marks who fall for the “Trump” brand.

The *ONLY* terrorist attack by Muslim extremists in Sweden I can think of was a failed one that occurred early in the decade…but in December 12, 2010.

A Muslim extremist had fitted explosives in his vehicle and parked it near the major shops in Stockholm in hopes of inflicting massive casualties…but when the would-be bomber tried to blow it up, he was only successful in killing himself luckily.

And another attack, which Trump would fail to highlight of course, would be the attack by a racist Swede dressed up as Darth Vader went into a school and started stabbing immigrant kids in October 2015.

Sweet christ, I give up today.

Liberals can be called traitors, “muslim fetisihists”, “pedophile lovers”, “ojectively Pro-Saddam”, communists, Satanists, socialist monsters, black supremacists, white haters, etc., etc. etc. It’s ok though, because that’s totally ALL TRUE and shows how evil and hateful and monstrous liberals are

Soon as we call out people for being racist, xenophobic, etc. conservatives and Trump supporters are, that just proves how mean and awful and intolerant liberals are and how they’re all the real monsters, and calling people out just caused trump because of how much it makes the country hate them for their hate.

Fuck it. There’s no fucking way to win at all, the country thinks you’re a fucking monster anyway and will let the GOP coast through becasue their fee-fees were hurt. Fuck this so fucking much, I hate everything right now.

There just seems to be no fucking point in trying because everyone fucking hates you already and thinks the worst of you, and fighting back just makes you even more the monster they already think you are and just makes everything fucking worse because everyone hates you anyway.

These fuckers should be facing more serious charges.
I wonder if GoFundMe can sue Daugherty for fraud.

Two hunters accused in a January shooting on a remote Texas ranch near the Mexican border have been charged after they told authorities unauthorized immigrants attacked them.

A grand jury indicted Michael Bryant and Walker Daugherty, 26, last week on one charge each of using deadly conduct by discharging firearms in the direction of others, Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez told KOSA-TV.

A deputy responded to the Jan. 6 shooting at the Circle Dug Ranch where they found Daugherty and client, 59-year-old Edwin Roberts, with gunshot wounds.

The hunters claimed unauthorized immigrants from Mexico tried stealing the RV they were using. Daugherty even started a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his medical expenses, which reportedly garnered more than $20,000.

An investigation concluded that Daugherty shot Roberts and Bryant shot Daugherty, the sheriff told the TV station, adding that the incident was nothing but a friendly fire.

The hunters’ accusation made headlines and reached Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, who’s been scrutinized for sharing the fake news on social media.

“This is why we need the wall and to secure our borders,” Miller wrote in a Facebook post that was shared more than 6,500 times before being deleted, according to the Houston Chronicle.

“There are violent criminals and members of drug cartels coming in and it must put a stop to it before we have many more Walker Daughertys.”

About 30 law enforcement officials searched the area where the hunters were staying and found no evidence of border violence or of other people approaching the ranch that night, authorities said.

goddamnedfrank  Feb 19, 2017 • 2:09:59pm

In the never ending game of gun regulation cat and mouse, gun stores are again legally selling AR-15 lower receivers and built up rifles in California. The idea is that by building one up with a Thordsen FRS-15 stock and replacing the muzzle brake with a thread protector the rifle no longer qualifies as an “assault weapon” under the law. Which in addition to making the gun legal to buy or transfer also means it can have a standard mag release.

Thordsen basically saw a truck sized hole in the regulations and drove through it. By creating a stock that has a traditional lever action style pistol grip, i.e. one that does NOT “protrude significantly below the action,” and covering the buffer tube with a separate piece they effectively duplicated the functionality of a thumbhole stock without the banned “hole.” Then by making it a fixed stock they avoided the ban on adjustable length.

Essentially this law has changed very little, the next asshole who wants to buy and use an AR-15 in a killing spree in California will still be able to do so. Instead of trying to be clever they probably should’ve just banned detachable magazines entirely.

It says a lot about the present nature of conservatism that he is but then again Rush Limbaugh was repeatedly called the most influential conservative for a while. Rush has to be jealous that a British gay dude has stolen his thunder though.

We saw the reaction. They voted for him.

Really, Playboy was nothing compared the actual life of Trump and what was revealed during the campaign. And they glossed over it all.

He gave enough of a nod to stopping Muslims, kissed his Bible a couple times and got the backing of a god-botherer like Franklin Graham and others and all was forgiven.

I knew about the Asian Exclusionary Act of 1882 which weirdly enough was signed into law not long after my great grandfather with my last name emigrated. I think it’s things like this that many whites who want minority groups to “get over” certain things need to understand. No doubt about it, life was not easy for White European immigrants but they never faced anything close to this.

[…] Using this racial algebra, Thind too was “white” and thus eligible for citizenship.2 The Supreme Court responded:

“It would be obviously illogical to convert words of common speech used in a statute into words of scientific terminology when neither the latter nor science, for whose purpose they were coined, was within the contemplation of the framers of the statute are to be interpreted in accordance with the understanding of the common man, from whose vocabulary they were taken.”

The Supreme Court further concluded that the Hindu “is of such character and extent that the great body of our people instinctively recognize it and reject the thought of assimilation.” Moreover, the Court struck against the racial logic that Thind had utilized, citing that the term “Aryan” indicated a “common linguistic root buried in remotely ancient soil” which was “inadequate to prove common racial origin.”

I don’t think the Constitution says anything about invalid elections so we would be reliant on the legislative branch to do something. Won’t happen because Yay GOP!

I want you to know I am working on the family recipes. Some are so faded. I’m down to about three shoeboxes now, not counting all the recipes cut out of newspapers, magazines, downloaded and printed out (3 FULL notebooks of those) and all of the old books of recipes. Sigh… I did find some that were special family favorites, thank goodness. yay!

Wonkette has an article up from Alex Jones’s site listing fake media outlets like the New York Times, The Economist, and Wonkette.

LGF is not listed on Alex Jones’s site, so I guess it still has more work to do. Rebecca is thrilled her site is right down there with The Economist, however.

Fat Free? Your body _needs_ fats. My cousin cut all fat out of her diet and nearly killed herself. We Americans do eat too much and reduction is not a bad idea but fat free is the same stupidity as overindulgence.

re: #215 451_Montag

Serious question. If (really mean when ;)) proof comes out that BLOTUS had dealings with Russia AND they meddled in the election how does this not invalidate Pence? I understand the legality of Pence taking over in the event of impeachment but wouldn’t the underlying meddling still exist? Without The Naranja Idiots Pence wouldn’t be elected. Is this why GOP are hoping it all goes away?

If Mr. Trump were impeached because the GOP could no longer hold back against public outrage, there would have to be substantial evidence against Mr. Pence to impeach him. Other than that, there would be no way to get rid of Mike Pence.

The only other example is when the Maryland AG went after Spiro Agnew on state charges, causing him to resign before the stirrings of impeachment for Nixon began.

There is the issue in Indiana over Mike Pence’s E-mail, but it is unclear if that rises to the level of a state charge there.

Americans are on more of a ‘Free Fat’ diet.

Had a friend of a friend do the same thing, 30 years ago. Cut out everything he’d read was unhealthy, and started getting abdominal pains. Doctor told him he wasn’t getting enough fats, in addition to several other nutrients.

It’s fairly easy to eat a balanced diet if you’ll eat anything. The more stuff you exclude, the harder it gets.
