I watched part of the video of the panel from Maher’s show with YiannopolYianopl… Milo. Couldn’t get past the point where Larry Wilbur pointed out that the same argument Milo was using against Trans folks has been used until recently against gays - that it was a psychological disorder. Milo responded that, well, a lot of gays aren’t really entirely at peace with their sexuality.

I’d never read or watched anything of him till then, but that moment told me exactly who he is. A weasel (with apologies to the actual mustelids).

I don’t idolize LBJ, but ironically much of the legacy Republicans seek to destroy (Medicare, the Voting Rights Act, even the freaking Corporation for Public Broadcasting) is his. We shouldn’t forget how much of the liberal domestic consensus these days was his agenda (of course, not ignoring the tragedy of Vietnam).

Also, LBJ bloody worked with Congress to get things done in a bipartisan manner and never imagined himself a king, so the comparison is moot.

Wife and I dividing up cat duties.

I gave Felix Randomkitty his insulin shot at midnight last night (the normal time). My wife was asleep and for some reason thought I didn’t give him a shot so she gave him another shot this morning. (Double insulin latte shot.)

The cat has been ravenous all day (downed two cans of diabetic cat food, now going through a bunch of diabetic dry food).

So from now on, only she will give insulin shots, and only I will feed the cat. (Litter box duties still divided between me and me.)

I’m surprised our grocery store in the county seat carries the right cheese curds. Canadian Ethnic Food (tm) is not a big thing here.

There is a problem though: rumours that the store might close. If that happens, we become a food desert (it is sixteen miles away, if it closes, the next grocery store is sixty miles away).

Actually on reflection he’s much, much worse than Stepin Fetchit, in that he’s not just playing a part but is also out there vociferously arguing against the rights, equality and basic humanity of other subgroups from women to muslims to transexuals. His entire schtick is to be the “outrageous faggot” who assures Breitbart’s christian white straight males that they’re supposed to be at the top of society’s proper pecking order and everything that’s wrong in the world has resulted from threats to their natural supremacy.

This is another reason why NRO comparing Trump to LBJ is stupid. Can you imagine Trump writing Baldwin and the SNL writers thanking them for spoofing him? Trump’s big problem is he’s too thin skinned to be anywhere near office. I mean obviously Johnson didn’t like the criticism he got, who really does but he handled it a lot better than Trump ever has.

OT (sort of, although food is being discussed.) I found Seville oranges at the produce market today so now I can try making ‘real’ orange marmalade. I’ve used Valencias and I’ve used blood oranges (which was really good IMHO) but Sevilles are hard to find. I tried some commercial Seville marmalade, but they put too much sugar, and not enough orange in it, so there wasn’t anything much to it. We shall see how it all works out.

Whereas it’s a five-minute trip to the nearest gas station here. I can’t think of a grocer or convenience store that doesn’t sell cheese curds in this area.

Back when we had the dairy goats, homemade cheese curds were an easy thing.
But we didn’t like the idea of sending the boy goats off for slaughter, so we just stopped breeding the ladies (and getting the milk) and let all of the goats live large, fat and happy until the end of their natural days.
We said goodbye to the last one (a nanny) in November.

It’s significantly different. Whatever else you may say about them, William F. Buckley, John McLaughlin, and other successful conservative standard bearers of the 50’s to 90’s were not con men. Now cognitive bias has overwhelmed the political right so terribly that people without even a thin patina of respectability or intellectual integrity have become leading figures who are taken seriously and have access to the highest circles of power.

In LBJ’s case, I don’t think it was a lack of knowledge per say but a fear of “losing” Vietnam the way Truman was accused of losing China. Not to defend his Vietnam mistakes but I think that’s more than what it was. I do agree he was far more brilliant on domestic policy. That alone makes NRO’s Trump analogy stupid. LBJ could talk to every member of Congress and know that member’s concerns.

123
teleskiguy  Feb 19, 2017 • 7:06:07pm

Oh, my favorite thing about LBJ.

This shit was truly diabolical, in a fun way.

The President, with [White House secretary] Vicky McCammon in the seat alongside him and me in the back, was now driving around in a small blue car with the top down. We reached a steep incline at the edge of the lake and the car started rolling rapidly toward the water. The President shouted, “The brakes don’t work! The brakes won’t hold! We’re going in! We’re going under!” The car splashed into the water. I started to get out. Just then the car leveled and I realized we were in a Amphicar. The President laughed. As we putted along the lake then (and throughout the evening), he teased me. “Vicky, did you see what Joe did? He didn’t give a damn about his President. He just wanted to save his own skin and get out of the car.” Then he’d roar.

Yes.

Congress struck down the rule with Republican majorities — and some Democrats notably up for re-election next year — contending that the Second Amendment rights of these troubled, disabled individuals have to be the prime concern.

Senator Charles Grassley, Republican of Iowa, envisioned people with “an eating disorder” being barred from buying a gun. To the contrary, the rule was focused narrowly on disabled individuals who require a trustee for personal management.

re: #178 Targetpractice

I don’t see how. The far-right have made an entire industry out of denying who they really are and projecting all of their worst sins on liberals. They’ll just claim that Milo’s remarks are taken “out of context” or just bury them entirely and say the reports about them are total fabrications.

I don’t know. I think kid fucking could be a breaking point. You could easily be right though.

Or they’ll find some prominent homosexual liberal who they can claim has admitted they were into pedophilia and scream “BOTH SIDES!!!!”

re: #170 Targetpractice

So after years of insisting that all homosexuals are pedophiles, the wingnuts finally have one who’s open about it…and he’s one of their best buds.

Awkward./////

It won’t bother them a bit. Mike Huckabee hangs around with pedos too and that hasn’t kept him off of Fox. Just locker room talk, that’s all. They should invite Melania in to vouch for it as well as the wholesomeness of watching porn by the daughter of a friend.

Good old fashioned fun, that’s all.

That I think is more likely. Or what I brought up with Polanski.

Milo needs to be tied back to his boss, Steve Bannon. Be a good question for a reporter to bring up at the next press conference.

Of course — DARVO!! Blame the Democrats for their sins. How is it that they remain so successful at deflecting their transgressions to the other side? People just never learn.

62 and 34 tomorrow for us. It was near 70 today, with the giant pile of snow across the street from my house (removed last week from clearing the streets) melting and flooding the street between my house and the church.
