This overweeningly confident prick is CERTAIN that he can totally bring about Peace In Our Time by putting Putin on a leash.

But as he is about to learn, nobody puts Putin-baby in the corner.

Sounds just as good when said in the original Russian: никто не ставит ребенка в угол

Now that would be some irony [kicking Milo Yiannopolis out for moral turpitude]. Karma has a wicked sense of humor.

Well, that would require ICE or someone like Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III to care about that sort of thing.

It does show there are some jobs Americans just won’t do though (editor for Deadbart).

re: #5 bratwurst

On the most recent episode of his show, the televangelist argued that the sole reason the mainstream media is targeting President Donald Trump is, once again, his wife. Robertson opined that the beauty of First Lady Melania Trump is so incredible that “just by staring at her for a period of time, one can rid themselves of the plague of homosexualism.” “You know how there used to be this urban myth that men can prolong their natural lives just by staring at naked female breasts for 10 minutes a day? Well, this is sort of something similar to that, with one crucial difference: it’s not an urban myth,” Robertson said. “She’s an actual gay whisperer, that one.”

Now we know what the snakes in Robertson’s brain look like.

While Rev. Robertson has said creepy stuff about Melania Trump, he has not claimed that she can “cure gays by looking at her.”

crooksandliars.com

Notably last year after the RNC Convention, he went into a bunch of creepy comments about her looks (video at Crooks and Liars).

However, claims Robertson said her nude pictures are “pure art” are false. He said no such thing.

My opera selection for this evening was Manon Lescaut, an exquisite 1983 performance at Covent Garden with Kiri Te Kanawa and Placido Domingo. Hadn’t seen it before and wasn’t all that familiar with the story. Absolutely beautiful… until… on the screen it sez “Act IV: Desert outside of New Orleans.” WTF?

Sure enough the stage thingie lifts and there’s this dry, rocky moonscape and our lovers are struggling and dying of thirst. Clearly Puccini had never been to Louisiana. Kinda fucked up the whole opera. I mean, I get creative license but really?

Off to bed … the company that services the town’s RO units will be by my house in the late morning.

(The EPA required us to treat our water supply after it was discovered we had too high arsenic levels in the water. The cost of a water treatment plant was astronomical for a village of just over one hundred people, so the village opted to pay for RO units for every house and replace the entire village plumbing system instead a couple years before we moved here. At least we don’t have to worry about lead plumbing.)

Trump administration expands social media checks to cover Chinese visitors (South China Morning Post)

The Donald Trump administration is seeking to check the social media presence of Chinese visitors by asking visa holders to disclose information about their favourite social media platforms and user names.

Since November, Chinese nationals holding 10-year US visas have been required to complete Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS) enrolments to enter the United States, and US Customs and Border Protection proposed last week to include an “optional” item to its EVUS system online, which asks applicants to supply details on which social media platforms they use and their user names, according to a document signed by Customs and Border Protection.

The document was made available to the public on Tuesday in the Federal Register - the daily journal of the US government. It said the Department of Homeland Security proposes to include the following question to the EVUS application: “Please enter information associated with your online presence - Provider/Platform - Social media identifier.”

This is a disturbing trend. First, they were demanding the social media accounts of people coming from those 7 nations, then anyone they arbitrarily decided had to divulge that info. Now, they’re proposing visa holders — not applicants — to do the same. And these are people from a country not especially known for terror attacks on foreign soil.

Is Trump trying to poison all foreign relations with everyone but Russia?

So, I’ve done hardly any posting because I’ve been getting ready for a trip to South America — I’ll be gone for a month, and I’m relying on all of you to do your best to assure that my country is still here when I get back.

I managed to fit in a short time at the “Not My President’s Day” rally — fewer than 100, but it was pouring rain. I heard after I got home that it had been cancelled because of the awful weather, but some of us turned up anyway, as did the speakers (in my case, it was guilt because I’ll be off vacationing for so long).

Before I go, I want to recommend this article, which has a good summary of “modernist” movements in Islam and what happened to them. Also, there’s a section on what the “clash of civilizations” types think “radical Islam” is planning for us. I was struck by the fact that if you substitute “Christian” for “Muslim” in the outline, you’ll have exactly the agenda of Dominionists and the Trump administration. Chilling… but now that they’ve come into the open, it’s a useful exercise.

Cernovich is just plain weird, with his belief in some breathing exercises giving him supernatural powers, and holding attitudes about women and men leftover from the 1940s. He brands himself an “alpha male,” yet he seems to have held no discernible job in his life and allegedly got a generous settlement when he divorced his lawyer wife.

Agreed, but the fact that he was brought to trial and convicted at all is quite a contrast to the history of American police using excessive force.

It’s weird that these alt-right fucks are all paranoid about the “deep state.” Even going as far as to say that YouTube is part of it because the Pentagon invented the internet a long time ago so they must be in on it.

That’s amazingly stupid. On YouTube there are numerous videos that show how to hack software or change hardware with any smartphone on the market.

One upside - it’s quicker to type than ‘intelligence community,’ but sends moonbats and wingnuts alike into the same state of blithering paranoia if you mention it on Facebook.

I actually watched his video ‘statement’ about Milo, and I was surprised at how dim he seems. I may have been giving him too much credit, for all this time I assumed he was sharper than he actually is.

Trump, who spent years claiming that statistics generated by government agencies were invented and bogus (like the economy growth rate, the size of the economy, or the unemployment rate), is now demanding that the statistics generated by government agencies fake the numbers so as to prove that his economic policy could work.

It’s so much bullshit, but then again, Trump’s an economic illiterate, and that was the opposite of his entire claim to being president. He’s the thing farthest from an economic expert. He doesn’t know basic terminology or how the economy works.

So, this is happening.
DP&L have been planning to shut down two of its coal-fired power plants (one of them had a huge explosion recently) and now Murray Energy (founded by the infamous and current CEO Robert Murray) is asking the State of Ohio to intervene and require DP&L to keep the plants open.

Power struggle

Murray supplies coal to both plants which represented substantial revenue for the company, company officials said.

According to Murray officials, before DP&L’s January (closure) announcement, Murray had been seeking to keep the two power plants open through 2026.

According to the Murray filing with PUCO, Murray says the coal industry has not been properly represented in the proceedings.

“The stipulation and recommendation completely fails to address the staggering adverse closure effects that it unloads upon Murray Energy and the citizens of Ohio,” Murray officials said in its filing. “Rather, it focuses primarily on serving the private self-interests of the parties to the agreement, many of which, including the Sierra Club, appear to stand ready to receive substantial payments under the self-serving agreement.”

According to the proposed settlement announced by DP&L, the company is moving away from coal-fired energy and looking closer into renewable energy resources. The terms of the proposed agreement would require Stuart and Killen to close in mid-2018.

So much bullshit.

This story bears watching, mostly because Sater has been an FBI informant and CIA informant at different points, and his criminal background came to light when he tried organizing a Trump tower project in Florida and investors balked once they realized that he had a criminal record (that the feds wanted to keep sealed).

What he’s done, who he knows, and what he’s doing even now are all question marks. What Trump is doing with him in his sphere of influence? Nothing good, that’s for sure.

Different research methods have found that individualism is on the rise in American culture, with younger generations reporting less empathy and more self-focus than generations before. Although this narcissism is often pinned on millennials alone in the popular press, research going back to the early 1900s suggests that these forces have been in play for at least a century.

That’s rich when it’s older generations that voted overwhelmingly for Trump and hate anyone who isn’t them. But young people have problems with empathy?

It was utter BS, of course, but they highlighted things like “negotiation means nothing if you don’t follow through on your promises” (from his book, supposedly), to which FnF’s ran a bullet point list of his “achievements” so far. It’s amazing to see this kind of bald-faced propaganda play out in real time. They’re trying to get ahead of the disaster.

CHARLESTON, W. Va. (WSAZ) — A bill has been introduced in the West Virginia House to make the Holy Bible the official state book of the state.

The bill was introduced Monday by delegates from Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Boone, Mingo, Wayne, Jackson, Ohio and Upshur counties.

The bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee.

Delaware special election this Saturday will decide control of State Senate

This is making me real nervous. This is a middle class area. The two major candidates are both against legalizing marijuana yet there’s a Libertarian candidate who is for legalization. So of course the big talk on Facebook locally among young people is that they are all going to vote for the Libertarian — even though they all hate Trump. So looks like yet another third party spoiler for Democrats.

Also the last election this district was decided by just 267 votes.

So much bullshit.

That’s a whole lot of steaming bullshit. I hope the state tells ‘em to go pound some coal dust.

I’m thinking Johnny Kasich will not want it since he is big on Ohio natural gas from all the fracking he’s allowed in Ohio. But then, Ohio coal country might be thinking The Donald will “Trump” him since they voted for him and Trump won the state.

But suppliers should never be able to run the damn company they supply.

Heh, back in 2004: At the time, I lived about a mile (as the crow flies) from where a 450-pound white Bengal circus tiger named Apollo got loose in Queens. He caused a minor 5-car pile-up on the Jackie Robinson Parkway—insert NYC accent: DAFUQ?? Did we just see a frickin’ TIGER?—before taking a stroll in the park. Police seemed kinda unnerved, but apparently church picnickers took it in stride:

Tiger, Briefly on the Loose, Causes Collision

The tiger strolled across Forest Park and ambled by a surprised, but not easily frightened, Berean Missionary Baptist Church choir picnic.

”He just strolled along, he didn’t bother anybody,” said Deborah Faulk, a choir member. ”I’m thinking: ‘What a pretty animal. It’s my first taste of a safari.”’ […]

Police armed with shotguns and tranquilizer guns cornered the tiger until a rolling cage could be brought by to take him back to the circus. The tiger was back in his cage by 1:30 p.m.

”It was a little nerve-racking,” said Capt. John Durkin with the Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit. ”It looked left, it looked right. It didn’t look like it wanted to go into its cage. There were a tense couple of seconds.” […]

That’s rich when it’s older generations that voted overwhelmingly for Trump and hate anyone who isn’t them. But young people have problems with empathy?

Boomers (of which I am one) were certainly very self-centered and self indulgent. I don’t think Boomers have a lot of room to criticize any other generation. They went from peace and love “hippie” thinking to mass consumption ‘yuppie” Trump supporters.

I know I don’t criticize based on generations as I have many problems with my generation.

If the younger generation has any problem it was because of a lot of questionable parenting…as in parents that many times were too into themselves to give proper attention to raising their kids.

Thing is, most of them weren’t hippies.

What they do have in common? Being the generation that grew up being told that the US was the hero of WW2, that the nation was the “good” superpower, that the prosperity they benefited from was the product of hard work (not the devastation of most of the industrialized world). They’re also the generation that were instilled with a nationalism that associated church, family, and state as pillars of the USA (thanks, Eisenhower). They were also the generation in which post-war economics created both a physical and economic separation between blacks and whites, even as the “success” of the era was being attributed solely to individual achievement.

I’m not saying they’re all bastards, but I think it’s important to consider the culture the grew up in, and how it created the explanatory devices we now see them using when they look at current events.

They all want to go back to the 50s but where is the economics that supported all that? Nowhere to be found. So, lets’ all go back to something that very few can go back too.

So, this is the small government we’ve been told the GOP would bring about. Hiring 10,000 people to deport 400k (and how long does it take to hire/train that many - figure the 10k wont be fully hired until after he’s gone from office).

Except that the Obama administration deported that many without 10,000 new hires.

Trump’s crackdown netted just about 700 in a week. That’s just about 36,400 in a year. Or 1/7th of the amount Obama deported under the process that the Trump admin claimed was not sufficient.

Let that sink in. Up is down. Down is out. And he wants to expand ICE by 10,000 agents when it’s not clear that the number is warranted.

Oh, and another thing to note about the ICE deportations - since Obama took office, he’s made it a priority to focus on convicted criminal deportations.

re: #358 The Ghost of Senator Incitatus

I agree they weren’t all hippies. But that was a bit of the fashion for a lot of them. And like fashion, it is nothing more than a change of clothes or a hair style. The person is the person no matter what.

And a lot of boomers were told “the world is yours” for the taking.

The point you make about the black and white separation is very important and ignored. I was at a birthday party celebration for a client Saturday night. My client is a Black (she turned the big 60) woman so the party guests were primarily Black.

One of the elder ladies I was sitting at my table with brought up that very topic about how back in the depression and pre-war days there wasn’t a lot of difference between black and white people in the cities and in areas that were for the majority of people that weren’t rich.

Maybe you (and she) were on the right track and maybe that is why so many conservatives want to go back to the 50s. There was that economic separation that went along with the bigotry and it keep “those people’ in their places never should the two mix or mingle.

People need to get over the fact there is no going back. You can’t. You can only go forward. Humans don’t have good reverse gears and when they try they cause a lot of problems. I like progress…no reverse in it.

The crackdowns and The Wall are merely symbolic in nature and simply an expression of our National Will to Remain Pure and Untainted.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security employees in the Washington area were unable to access some agency computer networks on Tuesday, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

It was not immediately clear how widespread the issue was or how significantly it affected daily functions at DHS, a large government agency whose responsibilities include immigration services, border security and cyber defense.

Employees began experiencing problems logging into networks at 5 a.m. ET on Tuesday due to a problem related to the personal identify verification (PIV) cards used by federal workers and contractors to access certain information systems, one source said. At least four DHS buildings were affected, the source said, including locations used by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Another source said the cards did not appear to be responsible. DHS did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

While they are still “shaping up”, - as they have apparently been for over a decade - those GOPers in power will have the ability to work their (mainly negative) remodeling of the political system unchallenged.

Breitbart’s editor in chief today:

Alex Marlow said Tuesday that video of the comments came as a “total surprise to people in the Breitbart administration,” and that they found them “very troubling and upsetting… the bottom line is the comments are not defensible.”

Marlow didn’t announce any punishment or termination of the senior Breitbart editor, but promised answers later in the day: “Milo’s going to have a press conference later today, and he’s going to talk about his future with Breitbart. He’s going to talk about a bunch of different things.”

“The comments are absolutely indefensible, they’re appalling, and very disappointing that those came out,” he reiterated. “However, there is context. Some of the context is that Milo is a gay man, who was abused as a child. These are not irrelevant.”

Despite his denunciations, Marlow accused anti-Trump conservatives and liberals of digging up the video as a “coordinated hit.” He also accused the media of hypocrisy, saying that Lena Dunham and Roman Polanski’s actions were much worse.

“There are millions of examples of the left normalizing behavior similar to what Milo describes,” he insisted.

You aren’t a very good journalism outfit if you don’t know that this stuff was out there (to say nothing of enabling Milo’s ghost writing). Total surprise my ass.

And of course, he thinks the bad actors are those who exposed Milo’s pro-pedo videos/statements, not Milo himself. The party of personal responsibility switches gears and goes straight to blaming others for his actions/statements.

re: #487 The Ghost of Senator Incitatus

Milo has consistently hung with MRAs and affiliated loons that routinely mock the idea of consent by women and the concept of legal age of consent. This pattern was clear well before that video was created a year ago.

This shit should not surprise anyone.

We were talking about the video.

Breitbart’s editor in chief today:

You aren’t a very good journalism outfit if you don’t know that this stuff was out there (to say nothing of enabling Milo’s ghost writing). Total surprise my ass.

And of course, he thinks the bad actors are those who exposed Milo’s pro-pedo videos/statements, not Milo himself. The party of personal responsibility switches gears and goes straight to blaming others for his actions/statements.

Fuckers.

Huh, wonder where that is.

I only did a two mile run this morning, and so I didn’t go by our local creeks so I haven’t seen what the water looks like. Tomorrow I run 5 and that’ll take me along both.

I didn’t run the 8 yesterday because it was pouring and I hate running in the rain, but I also bet I would have had some spots where there’s no good detour around sections that can (and have at least once this season) flood. Hopefully giving it a week will bring it back down to just the normal flooding (which has been flooded since mid-January).

I want ABL to lead the resistance.

I just want the resistance and I want everyone to help.

It’d be nice if Moore would realize he is just as polarizing as he is helping. I think he could be a valuable asset, but he needs to do it through his talents not through his personality. If he gets too much face time it may not be a good thing because conservatives like to use him as the picture of your common cliche liberal as wrong as that may be.

re: #366 Scottish Dragon

I like a lot of what Tom writes, but much of that thread was nonsense. He completely dismisses the massive rise in income equality.

I got his book ‘The Death Of Expertise’ on Kindle, because as we’ve all discussed here there seems to be growing disdain for actual knowledge. While he makes good points, in his chapter about colleges and universities, he does descend into ‘Get Off My Lawn!’ territory.

But he also makes good points, as you say. Yesterday on his Twitter feed there was an extended discussion of voters’ responsibility, and the whole “They didn’t give us good choices!” whinge, where he pointed out that ‘They’ really means ‘Us’, that we chose the candidates, that the system WASN’T rigged, and that, say what you will about ‘Smoke Filled Rooms’, at least no Smoke Filled Room convention would have nominated Trump.

But then he pushes the “It’s not income inequality that’s the problem. It’s the PERCEPTION OF income inequality that’s the problem!” line, and offers up an ANECDOTE as his evidence.

I sent a message to a Milo supporter’s employer yesterday complete with screen shots correctly identifying the individual and the offending post via Facebook. While they have clearly seen the message I sent, they have yet to respond. I pressed them again today but to no avail yet.

Here’s the tweet I posted yesterday with the photos enclosed (only because I don’t think I can upload multiple photos on here):

I’ve never set foot in a Carl’s Jr. because Karcher was a big backer of anti-choicers. Karcher also financed the Bright Initiative campaign in 1978 which tried to purge gays and lesbians from California schools.

> if you don’t know that this stuff was out there

I don’t think lots of people knew. We here didn’t, did we?

So much happens so fast the last two years in policis, but I am thinking I had heard some of the Milo comments about pedophilia some time ago here and in links from here.

And that was all way before Maher on Friday. I think Milo had said some of that stuff in his other videos of his speeches and appearances. But some people always seemed to take that as him just being outrageous and Milo.

What may have happened this time was all of it got put together at once and became a big focus now due all the exposure in a few days. Like the very old TV show “This is your life.”
