Milo Yiannopoulos Out at Breitbart “News”

Wingnuts • Views: 68,076

Far right demagogue Milo Yiannopoulos is infamous for writing many of the worst, most inflammatory (and let’s face it, vile) posts for the hate site Andrew Breitbart built, and today he’s announced that, as expected after his apologies for pedophilia surfaced, he’s “resigning.” Which means he was fired, but of course none of these people will ever admit it.

Here’s the full statement:

Today, Milo Yiannopoulos, Senior Editor at Breitbart “News,” announced his resignation from the company.

“Breitbart ‘News’ has stood by me when others caved. They have allowed me to carry conservative and libertarian ideas to communities that would otherwise never have heard them. They have been a significant factor in my success, I’m grateful for that freedom and for the friendships I forged there.

I would be wrong to allow my poor choice of words to detract from my colleagues’ important reporting, so today I am resigning from Breitbart, effective immediately. This decision is mine alone.

When your friends have done right by you, you do right by them. For me, now, that means stepping aside so my colleagues at Breitbart can get back to the great work they do.”

Personal note: as I was transcribing that, I felt my gorge keep trying to rise.

The question that needs to be asked:

Since the president came to Milo’s defense a couple of weeks ago, does he still stand by Milo now?

He threatened to pull federal funding from UC Berkeley because of the protests against Milo. Given his own “jokes” about ogling teenagers and underage girls, I think it’s entirely reasonable to ask him.

Ayep, Milo’s entire shtick was about being “edgy” and “controversial,” which really translated as “being a dick to the people conservatives hate with a passion hotter than a thousand suns.” But as I noted last night, the drawback to your meal ticket depending on being “edgy” is you have to either keep escalating until you cross a line that leads to massive backlash or you burn out and retire. Milo hit the former, but it’s beginning to become obvious that he’s in real danger of reaching the latter before too much longer. Most of the “edgy” crowd are young folks, because by the time you become an adult, people view “edgy” as meaning “asshole.”

These “This isn’t the end! 6 days later, Lee surrendered.

One of the dumbest things we ever fell for as a nation was letting civics go as a requirement in school. People really are completely stupid about the Bill of Rights and the rest of the Ammendments. Freedom of Speech has NEVER meant to say what you want without challenge. It was only with the advent of Conservative Nazi Snowflakes that this shit started. Sadly we have so many racist, bullying douchebags in this country that this stupid bullshit has become gospel. And this is how we got assholes like Milo, Bannon, Trump and all the rest of the shitmuffins crapping all over the country.

I hope Milo ends up sweeping floors in a megachurch for minimum wage. And that’s the kindest thing I can come up with.

I think about a year ago or more you called him a hedonistic nihilist. Still probably the best description I’ve heard. I don’t think he believes in anything except getting his next attention fix and cashing in. He found a good grift for awhile in being a mascot for the incipient movement of racist 4chan / Pepe disaffected young white male losers. Republican then, being ever desperate for any sign that their movement isn’t demographically moribund, embraced him like they have every conservative wunderkind before. What he does now all depends on what he identifies as his best bet for an immediate cash grab.

Since this thread is still about Milo…Imma gone done post this response to one of Targetpractice’s post about what is Milo going to do now. Maybe I can get this done before this thread changes!

Targetpractice had said:

He’s lost his job, he’s lost his book deal, and he’s lost his ticket to greater fame. His speaking gigs were his biggest money maker after selling other people’s work as his own at Andrew Breitbart’s Mausoleum for the Chronically Unemployable. But those gigs are going to dry up now that his support of pedophilia has become public. Just where does he go from here, now that his own words have rendered him radioactive?

And I repsonded:

He’ll come out and say it was all a put-on like Andy Kaufman. His own Sacha Baron Cohen-like Ali-G character and now that it has been taken to it’s last performance he will be doing new works.

Would not surprise…

That is all…and now I am going to mix some moar Durabond patching plaster so I can get behind again.

All that’s going to happen is Milo will be used as a bludgeon against liberals, will be allowed to operate in a lower orbit of wingnut entertainment. If he loses speaking deals, that will be used as further evidence of liberal intolerance.

And this will happen because he is not an outlier. His behavior is just a variant on an established set of norms, wherein the “unsayable” has validity because it has shock value and the “truth” is just the ugliest perspective that condemns the most stigmatized groups.

Remember: the culture we’re talking about has already adopted an elaborate series of rituals and deflections to justify or excuse worse behavior.

And furthermore, their understanding of depravity, like their understanding of truth and morality, is rooted in allegiance, not in actions. “Liberals”—the broad spectrum of people they don’t like, only vaguely linked to politics—will always be depraved because they’ve been assigned the label liberal.

Here’s the thing, Milo: If you really were sexually abused and your only way of dealing with it is being a petulent fuckwit, then you need to seek help. Because you obviously have a lot of very negative emotions, chief among them anger and hatred, that you need to deal with in the presence of a licensed professional. Because the people who are paying your bills now are eventually going to move on to the “next big thing” and you’re going to be left a bitter old man, your pockets empty and nobody to turn to for your next fix.

Of course, no story like this is complete without a reminder of the last time one of these situations happened:

The last shooting at Ben Taub happened in October 2016, when an officer shot an inmate who had taken a medical student hostage.
Ricky Hall, 46, was facing a parole violation and a host of new charges when he was shot by a sheriff’s deputy after he took up an “edged weapon,” according to Chronicle archives.
Days before his violent outburst, Hall - who struggled with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, his mother said - was taken to the hospital for treatment of seizures. Hall ultimately died from his wounds.

No update on what the current situation is though.

Below are “alignment measurements” of what people who identify as Democrats or Republicans tended to read most often. They do not indicate a measurement of news organizations’ coverage or “slant.” A -1 indicates a strongly liberal readership, and 1 a strongly conservative readership. Not all of these organizations are necessarily clients of Chartbeat.

I love you all. LOL.
One day soon I’ll post an update on the family thing. Not going as well as we’d hoped. Developers are slated to tear up all the land around us and it’s going to tank our home value. Our neighbors of 20 years couldn’t be bothered to tell us what was happening to our faces, I had to find out from land surveyors crawling all over the place. 18 acres of mostly trees (including golden eagles who recently moved in) is about to be leveled and we’ll go from 6 houses to almost 50. All zoned for “residential senior living” which is an innocuous way of saying 2500 sq ft, one story houses with no yards, 10 ft apart on bare land. I cried while speaking at the last zoning meeting this morning and no one gave a shit. This same asshole developer just did the same thing 1500 ft away on 13 acres next to a church. The houses are for people over 55, no kids and the prices start at 400K. The already built neighborhood down the street is hideous, the new one will look just like it. I hope my neighbors who walked away with full pockets of cash choke on every dime. GAH. I hate people. These are proud “deplorables” , so you know, they can bite me.

re: #168 HappyWarrior

There’s no central concept or principle that’s actually being pursued. It can’t be coherent because its subcomponents aren’t coherent. Many of their positions rely on counterfactuals and hostility to scrutiny and analysis.

Supply side is garbage; Austrian economics is pixie garbage. Welfare for large businesses is good, even though it doesn’t produce the claimed results and hasn’t since the idea was shoved forward. Spending is good except when its bad. Welfare for individuals is bad, even though it makes money circulate through the market in a way that’s healthy.

Look at the 180’ drift from free market to protectionism. There’s no there, there.

Government is too big, except when it’s not big enough. Deficits don’t matter…sometimes. The federal government can’t be trusted, but the internal intelligence apparatus needs to be bigger and privacy laws slimmer. States’ rights are paramount when its advantageous.

The Constitution is precious, except when it’s black-robed tyranny, or when Scalia manages to channel the founders through the ectoplasm and knife a Warren Court precedent in the kidney. Civil liberties are for closers.

And that’s not even getting into the knots they’ve twisted the Bible in. Sample the Old Testament, sample the New Testament: retroactively read all bits as part of Revelations. Parables aren’t parables about salvation, they’re economic lessons. Leviticus is holy law, but only wrt gays, all the bits about debts and forgiveness don’t count. The Bible is literally true, but also has secret meanings that your megapastor and local creation scientist can explain (but you gotta pay).

And as we’ve seen, the alt-right are even deeper in the hash of not-fucking-thinking, and busy heaping the bullshit higher with further Protocols and Red Scare/Yellow Terror/Brown Menace fanfiction. The stank of the John Birch Society is all over the cryptic, gnostic internal logic of the GOP. Buckley didn’t so much exile them as airbrush their hairy asses.

This is why all the different bits connect only through the core conceit: that everyone else is utter depraved, and a priori wrong.

Buried deep in the Trump Administration’s plans to round up undocumented immigrants is a provision certain to enrage Mexico — new authority for federal agents to deport anyone caught crossing the southern border to Mexico, regardless of where they are from.

If present immigration trends continue, that could mean the United States would push hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans, Hondurans, Salvadorans, Brazilians, Ecuadorans, even Haitians into Mexico. Currently, such people are detained in the U.S. and allowed to request asylum.

249
Backwoods_Sleuth  Feb 21, 2017 • 2:28:27pm

This is not good for eastern Kentucky where large areas do not (and not in my lifetime) have reliable cell service.

Senate Bill 10, unanimously approved Tuesday by the Senate Economic Development Committee, would end Kentucky Public Service Commission oversight of phone service in rural areas, where telephone exchanges have 15,000 or fewer homes.

The legislature previously ended PSC oversight of phone service in more populous areas at the request of AT&T, which said deregulation would encourage phone carriers to spend more money expanding high-speed broadband networks rather than maintaining outdated land lines.

The 2015 changes ended the legal obligation of phone carriers AT&T, Windstream and Cincinnati Bell to provide basic phone service in urban and suburban areas. The companies instead could provide phone service through a wireless plan or an Internet protocol-based technology, which converts voices into a digital signal that travels over the Internet and then is reconverted at the other end.

AT&T of Kentucky President Hood Harris returned Tuesday to tell the Senate panel that the 2015 changes have let his company expand new communications technology, including 4G service and fiber infrastructure, across much of the state. Not a single AT&T customer has lost an existing land line as a result of the changes, despite the concerns of some critics two years ago, Harris added.

Over the last 25 years, my landline service has devolved into utter crap and the landline based so-called “broadband service” is a freaking joke.

What is so very weird is that when I lived in Illinois, I lived on a five-mile long rural road that had maybe 10 houses total. The phone company installed fiber way back in 1990 and it was amazing.
Where I live now, there are more than three dozen homes in a four-mile stretch from the paved highway and the location of the last broadband node. And the same decades-old landline telephone technology.

There’s a small company that started up in SF for delivering high bandwidth to apartments. They expanded to a few other cities including San Diego, then Google Fiber bought them out, but the company kept its name as a front end.

And for all those who say government shouldn’t be investing in infrastructure, there is no freakin’ way corporations are going to invest in rural areas unless they can get some guarantee the investment won’t kill em.

That goes from railroads in the XIX Century to Internet or cell service (never mind broadband) today.

But their WiFi networks leave much more to be desired, from my experience.

They’re getting better at existing, compared to even just 2-3 years ago. I have a small wifi router that would get packed so we could have wifi in hotel rooms. Didn’t need it this last trip.

Yeah Docomo was hit or miss when I was using it. I ended up getting a Pocket Wi-Fi router for the 2 and half weeks that I stayed over there a year and a half ago.

- Threats of retaliation
- Multiple victims who went to HR about it and no action taken.

It’s pretty simple. My wife just woman-splained that when I read it to her.

a) To conservative men (and a fair number of libertarians as well), women exist only to please men.
b) As such, if a woman does not meet whatever impossible standard men set, they are not women.
c) Lena Dunham as such is not a woman.

She also thanked me for saving her from libertarianism. (Actually, she saved me from homelessness so I call it even.)

Right, which is more moronicism - are they willing to have their opinions weighed similarly? As you pointed out to them, they aren’t all handsome and athletic looking. That’s a big reason why every hunter and their dogs from Texas (and a lot of other states with scarce public land) come to Colorado during the autumn rifle seasons, we got a shit ton of public land, after all. It’s a nice shot to the economies of mountain towns not close to a ski area right before winter.

Yeah, so I told the rest of the Lizardim this, hence why I’m making this one public ;) My dad responded to that with an e-mail. A word-for-word copy of a Franklin Graham post. Needless to say, I have a feeling politics will not be oft discussed between us anymore. And I may wind up finding myself, surprisingly, written out of the will.

My gramma used to use her will as a weapon to make her grandkids behave the way she wanted them to. She died a few years ago at age 99. I have a pair of long underwear marked with her name and that of the nursing home she died in.

You’d think in a land of gun-nuts, that they’d be all-in for hunting licensing for feral swine.

Is this a case where land owners are not on the same page as others?

In California, there’s a no season/no limit on hogs. You just have to buy a tag. They used to be something like 7 tags for $15, then the DFG noticed some landowners were charging >$200 to hunt pigs on their property, so they upped the price and sold them one at a time - it’s $22 for a resident wild pig tag now, but still open season with no limits.

I know in my heart that my mom and dad would never actually disinherit me. They don’t even joke about it. They take their responsibility seriously, and my dad has worked hard for years to ensure that us kids would be well cared for after they moved on. Traitorous librul or not, my mom and dad have too much invested in me to abandon me. My heart knows this… my head realizes that they’re wingnuts and literally anything could happen.

Time to spin up my local wingnuts: Let’s see if the paper prints this letter.

Irene North had an op-ed in the paper decrying flag-burning, a perma-hurt for snowflake conservatives.

A local person wrote the paper back in support of Irene North’s op-ed, talking about all those who “died for the Flag.”

I really hate it when conservatives hide behind the military or veterans to promote “their” idea of the nation, hence my response:

A reader recently wrote to uphold Irene North’s article on flag-burning. That reader apparently did not understand what the I Amendment protects and what military personnel swear or affirm to uphold and defend.

I am disabled in the nation’s service. My father and his father were killed during warfare. My sister and my mother, and both my grandmothers served in the military.

None of us affirmed to uphold and defend a flag. We affirmed to uphold and defend the Constitution and the rights it outlines for all people. No where in my enlistment oath did I affirm to uphold and defend a flag.

I do not like flag burning, except where it is prescribed by the Flag Code. But I affirmed to uphold the rights of all people, not just those whose speech or actions I agree with.

That tweetstorm pretty much hit it on the head. And honestly, I don’t think it’ll do too much damage. It could, don’t get me wrong, but in the end, fishfolk are family. We’ve always risen above our differences. I appreciate all y’all’s support, I really do.

You’re simply being true to the Christian principles they raised you with.

But I know that argument doesn’t necessarily fly.

I am sorry that this comes between you and your family - in that way I am fortunate, in that none of my family has ever been conservatives (but nearly all have been military).

We do not have political problems with the potential of splitting up our family - that said, my relations with my one cousin who voted her split Libertarian/Green ticket in Michigan are strained right now.

It really is just going to keep getting worse and worse. Trump’s psychological inability to accept or positively react to even the slightest or most well grounded critiques is going to keep snowballing and feeding back on itself until we’re left with a real, epic level disaster. And the really scary thing is at that point his supporters will honestly blame liberals and think the only way to fix things is to overthrow the Republic and give him real life dictator powers.

Actually, I am pretty confident that the Senate will flip in 2018 as Trump continues to prove that he is not fit to be President and his favorability ratings continue to slide. They’re already below 40%. Yes, his supporters will become angrier as their King is exposed for the dunce he is but I can’t see anyone being intimidated into allowing Trump to destroy our democracy.

As you can see from the protests, Town Hall meetings, etc., the resistance to Trump is strong, which is great to see.

Bill Hicks:

“My daddy died for that flag in Korea!”

“Funny, my flag was made in Korea. Small world.”

The original letter I responded to is here.

starherald.com

I’m guessing if they actually run my letter (they didn’t run my last one), it will play into the conservative “liberals hate the country” idea and not “that guy affirmed to defend the Constitution.” An awful lot of conservatives just don’t seem to get liberals can love their country as well. It mucks up the gears to think about that. Propaganda is a helluva drug.

To the Editor:

I want to thank Irene North for her “My view” in the Thursday, Jan. 12, Star-Herald. The Supreme Court has said desecration of our flag is a First Amendment right. But, in my mind, nobody should do anything to harm our flag. Far too many Americans have died defending our flag.

The worst of our flag destroyers seem to be the ones who have benefited the most from our country — and our flag — while others have paid the final price for defendant their so-called rights. Three millionaires in a sport field — a mere game — who have benefited from those who gave their lives, come to mind.

Warfarin does not have secondary kill properties so if they are going to use poison that’s the one to use. It does, however, make the meat unusable which I have an issue with. Open up the hunting and those feral hogs can provide good meat for a lot of people who would be most grateful for it.

Update on my coffee shop’s breakup: The major partner has given notice to his landlord, he’s closing at the end of Feb. and has paid through March to give himself plenty of time to get all the stuff out. The minor partner has signed a three year lease with the same landlord, to start in April. He’s getting a free month and expects to be closed for two weeks to paint and redo everything. Major partner has finally owned up to minor partner that he’s getting out, whether his portion sells or not. Minor partner has said, ‘No, thanks.’ to the wildly overpriced used equipment, but has not said that he will have a new coffee shop at the old location. They rarely work on the same days. I quit going in on Major partner’s days this week, because I find it too weird that he’s pretending to the public that nothing’s going on, and apparently I’m just ‘the public’, not a person who has come in everyday for three years and discussed brain injuries and stuff (he had a stroke before he moved here.) And he just stuck his head in to see if I’m OK because I didn’t come in today. I was on the phone, so I said, ‘I’m OK’, and left it at that. Tomorrow is Minor partner’s day. Whew!

On the hiring freeze affecting Weisbaden’s child care centre:

The hiring freeze won’t just affect such things. It will affect all military and veterans programmes that rely on civilian personnel: Everything from commissaries and exchanges to the VA and military hospitals will be forced to deal with personnel shortages that only get worse.

While Mr. Trump’s outline is extreme, I never, not once, ever, saw a conservative programme that positively affected me in the military.

The new one will be great because the proprietor (soon-to-be-former Minor partner) is a musician and will have live music way more than now. But I have six or eight weeks of uncertainty and finding coffee elsewhere to deal with. Not the biggest problem, but it comes at the wrong time (as all problems always do).

Off topic humour:

The gas company just called and asked for my wife. (My usual answer: Who’s calling).

She gets on and the gas company starts pitching a new insurance plan for fireplaces and dishwashers. She told them we have neither, and the sales pitch soldiered on.

We have neither.

She asked if the insurance for dishwashers would replace me if I came up missing or broken.

The sales woman did not seem to get the message, so my wife spent the whole call trolling her with irreverent and irrelevant questions.

Sure! I’m not sure how much business a bike shop would get here, but hey. There is a vacant three-storey brick building next to the restaurant. Could have a heck of a bike shop there. (First floor, bikes and maintenance. Second floor, living space. Third floor, secret coven of liberals.)

Franklin Graham came up and i commented that while I didn’t care for his father, I never doubted his faith or sincerity. Franklin, though? I said I like to grab him and a bible and say to him “Can I tell you the Good News of Christ Jesus? Because it is obvious that you have never met him.” Art got a laugh and agreed that it would be fun to do.
