Republican politicians don’t actually care. What they care about is scaring their voters.

Note politicians aren’t citing evidence of crimes in bathrooms, they’re just asserting it. They conflate it with attacks on children, and men wandering around in girl’s showers, which has nothing at all to do with any of it.

It is no different than scaring people over immigrants, over equal rights for women and minorities, before that interracial marriage, &c &c.

It is a tool for fear, because conservatism really has nothing to offer to the progress of civilisation, and never has.

Had to duck out momentarily to use my private E-mail server (muahahahahaha) to send out an official E-mail through the county for Flag Code display days in March.

(Taking off my flag committee hat).

There is only one flag holiday for us in March: 150th anniversary of Admission Day for the State of Nebraska.

Amongst other things happening will be a special United States Postal Service Pony Express delivery to the state capitol building in Lincoln, along with events around the state.

It pains me to see both Republican politicians and the media refer to folk at GOP town halls as “protesters” or worse, “liberal activists.”

The correct terms are “constituents” or “voters.”

The terms in the first sentence frames the context as GOP reps only represent Republican voters (which is exactly what my own rep at least admits openly).

The press needs to quit referring to liberals by those terms, but I am in no position to do anything about it (even my local paper refuses now to print my letters because I am a liberal).

Survey in my regional newspaper: Do you think your representative should conduct town halls? (The paper covers two representatives’ districts: Adrian Smith-R-NE3 and Liz Cheney-R-WY).

The poll is running nearly 90% yes. Neither representative is planning a town hall, so apparently George Soros is fixing the Scottsbluff Star-Herald’s poll with paid poll-takers (wait, the Star-Herald only allows subscribers to answer its polls).

Rolling Stone delves into that CBP check of passengers’ IDs.

Short version: CBP could not provide a reason why they could legally check passengers from a domestic flight. And the NYCLU says US citizens have the right to remain silent, implying the passengers would be within their rights to refuse to show their IDs in order to disembark.

Also, the person the CBP was supposedly looking for was not on the plane.

I am wondering if the Trump operatives at ICE and CBP are trying to anesthetize citizens against protesting such infractions of their constitutional rights, so that we get used to a police state.

I actually went to Paul Ryan’s website and read the whole “Better Way” plan which I will summarize for you here:

1. HSAs (Health Savings Accounts) which is another round of TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH. People who live paycheck to paycheck can’t afford them.

2. Remove “individual mandate” and replace it with “individual responsibility” because freedom

3. High risk pools for people with pre-existing conditions (which they can’t afford)

So the GOP plan is FUCK YOU & DIE IN PAIN

I actually went to Paul Ryan’s website and read the whole “Better Way” plan which I will summarize for you here:

1. HSAs (Health Savings Accounts) which is another round of TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH. People who live paycheck to paycheck can’t afford them.

2. Remove “individual mandate” and replace it with “individual responsibility” because freedom

3. High risk pools for people with pre-existing conditions (which they can’t afford)

So the GOP plan is FUCK YOU & DIE IN PAIN

We’ve discussed this before, but HSAs help only those who have the ability to save considerable sums. They don’t help anyone the moment they have any kind of serious medical expense - like say a hospitalization or ER care for a broken bone, let alone an ongoing ailment or condition. Americans don’t save enough money as it is, so to claim that HSAs will be the saving grace is baffling BS that doesn’t pass the smell test.

Individual mandate replaced with individual responsibility - that’s the individual fucking mandate. That’s the whole fucking point of the individual mandate - to put the responsibility on the person to be insured. The entire concept was derived from the GOP answer to Hillarycare in the 1990s, and was created by Heritage Foundation. But magical thinking will somehow transform individual responsibility into coverage to address any of the conditions/situations that HSAs wont.

High risk pools would create the very death spiral the GOP claims that they’d be avoiding (the GOP isn’t good at math) - because you can’t get enough people to pay enough to cover the costs of those in the coverage.

As a reminder - if the GOP claim that they have a plan, and it amounts to wishful thinking, that’s vaporware. If the GOP claims that their plan will do one thing, but creates far more problems than it solves, that’s malware.

Right now, the GOP have nothing but malware and vaporware as their stated policies on everything from taxes to health policy. Call it exactly that. They’ve had years to produce a cogent policy. They don’t have one. They’ve spent years attacking policies that work, precisely because they work.

For years Democrats shied away from defending those programs, especially Obamacare. That’s on the leadership that decided that they would run from Obamacare instead of defending it as the improvement over the status quo ante.

Enough.

Democrats have to show that their policies not only worked, but that the GOP has nothing but know-nothing/do-nothing regressive policies that would see all the gains made over the past 50 years (or more) disappear so that angry white guys can “feel” better about their lot - by being able to be bigots openly (but wont actually see/feel any actual improvement in their socioeconomic situation) and the rich can get richer.

It shows a 1998 segment from his former show “Politically Correct with Bill Maher,” in which Maher defends Mary Kay Letourneau to a panel that includes Lisa Montgomery Kennedy, Henry Rollins, Celeste Greig and Cedric the Entertainer.

For those who may not remember, Letourneau was a 34-year-old Seattle teacher who had an ongoing sexual relationship with a student when he was 12 years old. She also gave birth to two of his children, one of them while incarcerated. After spending several years in prison, she married the student.

In the clip, Maher said Letourneau was in jail “for being in love.”

He continued, “I admit that it’s unorthodox. She’s 35, the boy is 14. He was younger when they started. But she is pregnant again. That was the story this week. This is the second child by this boy. They are keeping the mother in jail because she won’t conform to what society feels should be the perfect American family.”

Later in the clip, when Greig called the act rape, Maher responded, “How can a woman rape a man?”

He also outright dismissed Rollins when he said, “I think that kid’s gonna grow up fairly damaged.”

The backpeddling here would be that New York is within the 100-mile area of the borders that Customs is allowed to search people. The ACLU has a map that shows the area in question.

Just noted to my wife that I am quite prepared to go to jail if someone were to order me to cough up ID or other illegal things - but I neither fly on US flights (I drive to Canada first and fly from there) nor do I live within a hundred miles of the borders or coasts (well, I live on the Inland Coast but that’s different).

Note there are seventy-one land checkpoints in the interior of the USA. They frequently cause traffic delays and other problems while conducting searches of all vehicles on a highway. Most are along the southern border, but there are some in Maine as well.

Arizona has particular problems with “interior border enforcement” though nothing from the Phoenix airport (yet).

Just remember, the crowd at CPAC are the worst of the worst. They are the legendary 27% of the 27% because they can either afford or are willing to pay with what money they have to be there.

For Trump, it’s like another campaign rally. He gets his rocks off to the adoring crowd. He’ll say whatever works with the current crowd….which again, tells you about the crowd at CPAC.

Also, the whole Bannon/Reince touchfest…..when people do that in this kind of setting it’s not about romance, it’s about dominance. Getting into someone’s personal space and touching them without their permission in a public setting like this is all about control. That was not two people showing affection.

In a private setting between people with a relationship where casual touching is allowed as a communication tool, totally different dynamic.

And let me further say (after additional consideration) that had this happened on a flight I was on, I would have assumed there was a problem and likely complied. Now this wasn’t in the era of Trump, so I think my reaction now might be different than what it would have been then.

So if we take that statement and apply it to today’s political environment, how many of the people on that flight are aware of the political environment and how many trust government (the way I did under Obama)?

I think there are simply too many things we don’t know to assume that this was something we can assign any kind of blame to. Short of not being In The Know (following politics as we all do), most people would think there was a valid reason for the asking for identification.

Regardless of what the fascists conservatives say here, everyone on American soil is covered by the Bill of Rights. It does not refer to citizens, it refers to people.

That said, one has to weigh whether he is willing to stand on a particular principle. Voting with your Euros might be the better choice in the future; I hear Canada is a nice place to visit.

Our passports are now in our car (as you can’t get a passport without a birth certificate). As you note, if they are intent on disbelieving you it won’t do much good. Also, your documents can “disappear.”

Passports in the car also offer the opportunity should it arise to head straight for the Mexican or Canadian borders if necessary.

Sounds like major press outlets are willing to throw themselves into the same sort of press we have out here.

I hope folk in the large cities are willing to vote with their dollars (it seems a sad state that it has to be outlets like Teen Vogue to stand up to this magic balance fairy/neutral reporting crap)

I was flipping through the stations the other day and watched a minute or two of Superior Donuts, which has Katey Sagal in it.

Can’t believe that she’s 63.

CNN reporting that Spicer says this was a pool report, not a gaggle and that is why there was a smaller group that coincidentally not allow CNN and three others in.

A live video stream has captured the attention of thousands carefully inspecting the expectant mother giraffe, April’s every move inside the barn at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y. But not everyone agrees with the live stream, the zoo said.

Zoo owner Jordan Patch took to Facebook live Thursday morning saying YouTube shut off the giraffe live stream because of “nudity and sexual content.” Patch said “a handful of extremists and animal activist” caused the cam to go dark.
