Rep. Adam Schiff Accuses FBI’s Comey of Withholding Information on Russia

Politics • Views: 52,205

California Congressman Adam Schiff is now coming right out and accusing FBI director James Comey of withholding information on Russia probe.

“I would say at this point we know less than a fraction of what the FBI knows,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told reporters after a briefing with Comey.

“I appreciate we had a long briefing and testimony from the director today, but in order for us to do our investigation in a thorough and credible way, we’re gonna need the FBI to fully cooperate, to be willing to tell us the length and breadth of any counterintelligence investigations they are conducting,” Schiff said. “At this point, the director was not willing to do that.”

Right wing media are doing their best to brush off this whole burgeoning scandal as a liberal conspiracy theory, but every day more information emerges and it just keeps getting more disturbing.

The attitude is going to be this: lying about Russia is not perjury just like getting a blow job is not cheating on your wife.

There’s absolutely no reason to trust anyone in the GOP regarding the Russia ties and associations and the contacts. None.

They lied and obfuscated about Flynn, but Flynn was forced to resign. The Admin thought that was the end of that? HA.

The GOP thought that was the end of it? HA

Everywhere you turn, Trump’s people have contacts with Russians in all different capacities. But Sessions’ statements were under oath, which makes this a case of perjury, that in Sessions’ own words are grounds for impeachment. Of course, now that Sessions is being hoisted on his own petard, he’ll claim this was not what he meant, and has offered to recuse himself, which was the bare minimum even before these revelations given his connections to Trump throughout the campaign and thereafter.

The GOP has enabled Trump and his admin throughout, figuring that they’ve got their agenda to pass, and Trump will get it done. They’ve signed off on Trump’s incompetent and ignorant cabinet picks, including all the ones with Russia ties.

This is entirely on the GOP, and they’re going to act like they don’t care.

2018 is reason enough to make them care - and make them pay for fucking over the nation with their dumbfuckery including gutting environmental protections and attempting to lay waste to the safety net including Obamacare (for which they’ve spent 8 years claiming they had a plan, a better plan, the best plan, but when rubber met the road, it turns out even that claim was pure unadulterated bullshit too - they have no plan and the GOP leadership is busy hiding any kind of working papers from view because it’s that kind of awful).

The more dysfuntional, distracted and hapless our government is, the more free hand Putin has to do whatever he sees fit without US interference.

I was listening to an interview on Fresh Air of journalists who have written a book on Russia’s interference in the election. It really placed the whole thing in context, especially why Putin hates HRC so much (Bill pushed NATO into Eastern Europe).

The basic take was that they wanted to weaken President Clinton’s Administration, because they never thought Trump could win.

When he won, they were completely taken by surprise. Then they were optimistic about the new Administration. Russian news sources wrote glowing articles, which it would only do on orders from Putin..

Then came the inauguration and the rolling chaos of ineptitude and corruption that followed, and that effusive praise got real muted, which it would ALSO only do on orders from Putin.

Last night on the MSNBC special looking at Putin and Trump, the one author from The New Yorker said Putin’s hate goes back to Bill Clinton and has been white hot Clinton hate since. He said it was because Bill worked to bring NATO too close to Russia and that has pissed Putin off since. Hillary was hated because of all that.

He also said it wasn’t so much to beat Clinton because they really didn’t think Trump would win. It was however to do sort of what you are stating, they wanted to damage Hillary as much as they could to weaken her before she was sworn in making her less effective.

He can’t stop anything. He is useless in the position at this point (from the position of trying to hide Trump criminality) and it is not likely to get better as the investigations continue. The position is untenable. Even if he stays in, he is a zombie AG.

I grew up in Kansas (left in 2002 for Colorado) when the education system and health care were quite good.

Over the last year my wife (a teacher) has told me about the massive influx of Kansas teachers flooding over to Colorado as Kansas 1) cut pay so low they couldn’t survive, 2) gave non-accredited teachers access to the classroom, 3) absolutely destroyed the pension for teachers.

The worst day for my wife in this presidency was DeVos’s confirmation (thanks Cory Gardner and that $48,500 payment from the DeVos family for that vote).

re: #124 Targetpractice

Again Trump goes with the apples to unicorns comparisons.

A single US carrier battle group today - comprising of a single US carrier, destroyer/frigrate escorts, and at least one attack sub, has more firepower than TF 38/58.

TF 38/58 - that’d be the Pacific fleet’s fast carrier task force, including groups of 3-4 Essex class carriers, dozens of destroyers, frigates, and even fast battleships (the Iowa class). You’ve probably seen photos of the task force at Ulithi atoll (showing at least 8 carriers).

That single modern carrier group could blow the WWII fleet out of the water from over the horizon, engage the aircraft over the horizon, and do so with a range that the WWII fleet could only dream of.

Back then, the fleet would have to close to within 200-300 miles of their targets because the range on the US aircraft was under 1000 miles. Current aircraft can go twice that.

But sure, compare the numbers. Current ships/aircraft/tech/weapons can do more with less - and better than prior generations. Previously, it took dozens of sorties/aircraft to try and sink a ship like a carrier. Today, a single sortie of aircraft can sink ships with modern missiles.

Etc…

This is using the military as a prop to deflect attention from the only story in town - Russia and how practically everyone associated with Trump is compromised.

NYT reported this morning that the Obama admin spent the last couple of months after the election pretty much setting this up…getting the intel distributed over several agencies so it could not be easily destroyed or “lost” etc and making sure a lot of institutional ppl knew what the deal was with the incoming Trump folks.

They are moving deliberately and they are trying to make sure that when they take a direct hit at the king, that they get him the first time.

What’s the connection between Sessions resigning because he lied to the Senate and Mexico? Rightwing “logic” is so twisted and mind boggling.

We won’t keep those illegals out of America, which will cause them to work here and send money back home.

That was meant to be snark, but it almost sounds logical.

Actually, he will make them more needed. Since climate change will make it possible to cut routes through thinner ice. And, as the polar caps melt the surrounding water desalinate, allowing it to freeze earlier, and over a larger area during the winter periods.

Yup. Build a wall that anyone with a ladder or rope can circumvent, but then make massive cuts to the USCG, which keeps everyone on navigable rivers and waters safe. They operate icebreakers, conduct rescues (like those seen on Dangerous Catch and in the movie The Perfect Storm among others), and conduct safety checks on ships entering US waters.

Oh, the USCG also does drug interdiction and stops illegal entry into US waters.

So, any cuts to the 5th branch of the military would directly undermine US national security - and the health and well being of all Americans.

To create a Navy larger than any since WWII, Trump would basically have to plow the entire federal budget into shipbuilding and then some. The only way that St. Ron of the Limitless Spending Spree managed to get close to his promised 600 ship navy was to not only drag ships out of mothballs, but to delay retirement of ships that had been in service since Korea AND go on an outrageously expensive program of shipbuilding and modernization.

What happened almost as soon as he left office and the Cold War ended? The bulk of those ships that had seen tens of billions spent on bringing them up to something resembling modernity were retired and sold off or melted into razor blades. And since we don’t have a huge fleet of post-WWII tin cans to rehabilitate, the only option is to basically build ships at a breakneck pace. And that’s not cheap by any sense of the imagination.

Not to mention that the Navy hasn’t even decided on what sort of ships they want to build. We haven’t had new cruisers built since the 90s, the Zumwalt-class is proving to be every bit the white elephant that the Seawolf-class was, and the plans for the Flight 3 Arleigh Burke-class are still being worked on. The Kennedy won’t be commissioned any earlier than 2020, the Enterprise is set for 2025. And they won’t cut the first piece of steel for the Columbia-class boomers until 2021. Sorry for the delay in reply - had to go let out the dogs.

I would disagree just that Repubs could pass these horrible people on party line vote (which I still prefer myself). In which case then none of the Dems then could be yelled at saying they “endorsed” this crap. If the Dems can be blamed for something (even if innocent) they will be because of the mouth breathing media (with few exceptions).

He ends by basically suggesting that he got caught unawares by Franken’s question and would have expounded if he’d had a moment to think about it. Problem with that: Franken didn’t ask him if he’d personally be in contact with Russians, he asked Jeff about a hypothetical situation where Trump campaign members had been caught talking to Russian officials. Jeff offered the answer that he personally had never been in contact with any Russian officials.

re: #363 JordanRules

Yes. Trump got the GOP to alter their platform regarding Ukraine and Russia at around this time.

The Trump campaign worked behind the scenes last week to make sure the new Republican platform won’t call for giving weapons to Ukraine to fight Russian and rebel forces, contradicting the view of almost all Republican foreign policy leaders in Washington.

Throughout the campaign, Trump has been dismissive of calls for supporting the Ukraine government as it fights an ongoing Russian-led intervention. Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, worked as a lobbyist for the Russian-backed former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych for more than a decade.

Still, Republican delegates at last week’s national security committee platform meeting in Cleveland were surprised when the Trump campaign orchestrated a set of events to make sure that the GOP would not pledge to give Ukraine the weapons it has been asking for from the United States.

Who benefits from those changes? Putin and Russia. Who loses? Ukraine and the US.

Had he stopped with “I’m not aware of any of those activities.” that would have been enough. But he proceeded to stick foot in mouth and lied about not having communications with the Russians. There was no distinction between his communications as a Senator or as a campaign hack.

They should tell Jefferson Beauregard Sessions about the invention of video recording.

Well, TBH, there wasn’t such a thing as recording devices as we know them when Sessions was growing up…back in antebellum times.

I find myself wondering when the leakers are going to get around to Roger Stone.

That dude’s as deep in this shit pool as anybody, maybe deeper than a lot of them.

Roger Stone knows how to stay out of prison; this is why he “resigned” from the campaign very early on. He’s a private citizen, no official campaign or government role, whatever he did was on his own time and his own dime.

Caterpillar says it believes that a search warrant executed by federal authorities on Thursday at its facilities concerns “export filings” related to its Switzerland subsidiary CSARL.

In a statement Thursday after federal agents appeared at its Peoria, Illinois, headquarters and other Illinois facilities, Caterpillar says the issue it concerns was first disclosed in a 2015 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

At that time, the Caterpillar said the SEC had notified the manufacturer that it was conducting an informal investigation relating to CSARL, and asked the company to preserve relevant documents.

What’s not productive about meeting with our constituents and listening to them, Bost? Oh, you mean because they don’t want to listen to a lot of empty promises and hot air, they want answers from you? Yeah, I can see how you don’t feel that’s productive.

That one on the left, you can use your collar extensions to wipe crumbs off your mouth, or wrap ‘em around your neck to use as a scarf!

Reminds me of the movie I was watching this weekend - “Two For The Road”, from 1967, and the crazy-ass fashions Audrey Hepburn was wearing.

Can she even see?

Those days of novice wrestling with my youngest were so fun. Once older and more competitive it was still interesting, but the little ones were so funny learning what was expected. He did wrestling for 9 years and then just decided he was going to do music instead, truth is I enjoy the concerts a bit more. Not as early in the morning and you know when the performance is going to end :-)
