The latest explosion of crazed Birtherism started with a tweet by “Malik Obama” (an account that many people, myself included, suspect is actually being run by white supremacist Chuck C. Johnson):

This “birth certificate” was debunked eight years ago. It’s a blatant fake. For starters, the date of birth is in US format: mm/dd/yyyy.

But who cares? Not the right wing Birther community, that’s for sure! Notice it has thousands of retweets and favorites.

And it’s being amplified by the biggest right wing megaphones on the web: Drudge Report and the Stupidest Man on the Internet.

Rachel is getting interesting tonight. She is talking about how well coordinated the Wikileaks DNC emails were with Trump talking points and campaign cues. Timing of it all seems very well planned by the groups. She’s tying RT America, Roger Stone, the Trump campaign and Wikileaks all together. Who put them all together…Russia.

And now we have the CIA info on Wikileaks…and she is saying it is round 2 for Putin who not only hates the U.S. State Depart currently being tore up but hates the CIA.

Spy versus Spy. It’s a real Mad world isn’t it?

And she just asked if the Russian “campaign” against us over, or still in process? (She’s now in a break)

It is for those aware, but it’s good to see her continue it and now tie in the CIA stuff as a continuation of the Russian messing about to help change our government. The state department is being cut down, CIA is being looked at as a Trump enemy, so investigate and then blow them up too.

More people need to be told, and told again. This is all part of the need to stay on message to get Trump out ASAP and I am glad someone does get to keep bringing it up as long as she can. Who knows how long before Trump forces MSNBC to shut up people like Rachel?

Düsseldorf police spokesman Andre Hartwich said one suspect has been arrested and police were investigating the motive. Authorities identified the suspect as a 36-year-old man who lived in the city of Wuppertal, located about 20 miles from Düsseldorf. He originally moved to Germany from the former Yugoslavia and “apparently has mental issues,” according to a police statement released late Thursday night. Authorities did not name the suspect.

Old dude was personally invited to one of the Clinton/Trump debates by Trump and did declare that, “Trump can make America great again.” He reminds of my cousin, Alveda King, who I do not tell anyone I’m related to. AK has never seen a right-wing meme or idea she’d reject. Very few members of my family want anyone to know she’s related to them. My mom and Coretta Scott King were second cousins. CSK would attend our family reunions in Tuscaloosa, AL, which are held on even-numbered years.

Related to Coretta Scott King? Wow. As for Alveda King, if you are related to her I can see why you wouldn’t really want to associate with her much.

(My family doesn’t hold reunions because most of us don’t want to associate with each other, but that’s another story and doesn’t have to do with wingnuts.)

She decided to get on the Trump & Co. Bandwagon last year and only now realizes that there was a d*mn slow-burning fire under the wagon, that the fire has flared up and is in the bed of the wagon, heading towards her, and it is about to burn up her healthcare, along with the healthcare of all of his other supporters who depended upon the PPACA for affordable healthcare. She’s the second voter in two days who is sorry for having voted for Trump. The woman the LA Times covered in a story yesterday said she thought Trump’s talk about destroying the PPACA was only “bluster.” I don’t feel sorry for any of these tools, and I am not in the mood to listen to their whining. Grown people should know what they’re voting for before they turn in their ballots.

I’m too late to comment on the now-dead Pence thread, but I know a person who has convinced himself Pence would make a better President than Trump: a staunch Democrat who spent countless hours volunteering for Hillary’s campaign.

Our last conversation on this topic did not go well, as it consisted of me trying to convince him that Pence and Trump are equally dangerous (only in different ways) and him shaking his head “no”. He thinks Pence won’t have enough time to enact his extreme agenda, and will encounter strong opposition from what will (fingers crossed) at least be a blue Senate. Besides, he said, Pence at least is more stable, and likely won’t have Bannon whispering in his ear at all times.

The situation of Hernandez-Carrillo, a mother of four children, one of whom is a Marine, highlights the complex problems facing the immigration system.

She was born in Mexico and moved to the U.S. with her mother and stepfather ― a U.S. citizen ― when she was 10 years old, Ghalib said. Up until recently, Hernandez-Carrillo assumed she would remain a permanent resident through her stepfather, who legally adopted her after he married her mom. But she eventually discovered that her birth father was actually a citizen himself, making her eligible for citizenship.

That’s pretty much it. Figuring out how to frame arguments is sometimes quite difficult, however.

For example, on the abortion issue, it really is a shame that the forced-birthers tried to seize the moral high-ground with the simple slogan “pro-life.” There is nothing pro-life about their position; it’s the liberal position that is pro-life (wanting every child to have a decent shot at health, education, safety, security, &c).

There is nothing pro-life about supporting the death penalty (the cognitive dissonance of that one amazes me).

I wasn’t able to join the Pence as president debate, because it happened while I was sleeping then teaching. So here’s my two cents a bit late.

Choosing between Trump or Pence is like deciding which is better: being eaten by a lion or by a tiger. Trump is a loose cannon, who has basically handed off the day-to-day operations of the WH to Bannon, Miller and the other appointees. His only apparent input to date have been early morning tweets and photo ops when he signs an EO or meets people in the Oval Office. If he does anything behind the scenes besides fuss and fume, I’d be surprised. The danger with Trump is the possibility of a serious international incident, started by him or unwittingly encouraged by him. Meanwhile, he will willingly sign whatever BS lands in front of him, because (a) he probably blind as a bat (b) he doesn’t read too good and (c) he doesn’t fucking care what he signs, as long as it’s photographed. So, Bannon can slip him EO after EO and Congress can send him RWNJ bill after bill, and he’ll sign them into law, because he thinks that’s all a president has to do.

Pence, OTOH, is a career politician. He knows what the presidency can do, and how politics works, and he would be more dangerous on the homefront given his Xianist tendencies and general stupidity. If he was selected for the express purpose of succeeding Trump, as Khan suggests, then the Trump team figures Pence will be a team player and continue the same destruction of the federal government already in progress. There is a slim chance that, freed of Trump’s management, Pence might grow a spine and kick Bannon, Miller, Conway and Spicer to the curb. He might prefer to have smoothly functioning WH instead of a roomful of rabid monkeys, which means Pence could really enact his agenda, whatever that might be.

Either way, we’re fucked.

If President Obama had made these crises the center of his administration, instead of the A.C.A., Democrats wouldn’t have lost Congress and the White House. If the Tea Party had understood the first two of these crises, there would have been no opening for Donald Trump.

Trump came along and exploited these crises. But if his administration’s health care approach teaches us anything, it is that he has no positive agenda for addressing them. He can tap into working class anxiety negatively, by harnessing hostility toward immigrants, foreigners and the poor. But he can’t come up with a positive agenda to make working class life more secure.

Or that the GOP would turn around and gut Medicaid and the safety net the first chance they got. Or that the GOP would seek to gut FEMA, USCG, EPA, and FDA the first chance they got.

Everywhere you’re turning the GOP agenda is ringing loud and clear. Even if Trump has no clue what he’s doing, the people he’s turning these agencies over to are dangerous and intend to do as much damage as possible in as short a time as possible.

How to resist? Start by getting out and voting. And yet we have evidence that people still don’t get it. Turnout was astonishingly low in Los Angeles earlier this week.

The GOP will have no problem retaining Congress if voter apathy strikes again next year. And if they do that, then Trump’s chances of getting impeached for his countless violations of his oath of office, starting with the Emoluments clause, diminish to nothing since the GOP doesn’t care so long as their cherished goal of gutting the safety net so that the rich can keep all of their income tax free.

The #GOPDontCare tax cuts are only the first step of Ryan’s tax plan to give the rich all the tax cuts they could ever wish for, all while the burdens fall even harder on those who can’t afford them.

That’s the fucking plan. They’ve telegraphed it. And GOP voters don’t care, because they somehow think that these tax cuts help them. Ignorant? Delusional? Fact-free? Complicit? Take your pick.

Democrats have to get their house in order, but they too are plagued by infighting, and while the DNC is now set at the top, it remains to be seen if they can get an all districts matter all votes matter effort going in short order.

Instead of using a surcharge to help make sure that the flood insurance program is solvent, or using the surcharge to help mitigate flood insurance risk by buying up threatened properties or building mitigation or prevention structure, they want to dump all this money on the Trump wall boondoggle.

Consider that if the city of Hoboken, which is about a square mile in size, had a seawall and other flood mitigation/prevention systems in place before Sandy, it could have prevented more than a billion dollars worth of damage to the city alone (including lost revenues due to transit disruptions) - and hundreds of millions more in damage to the PATH system. Same with other seaside communities.

Hospitals simply can’t treat cancer in an ER. Oncology wings are specialized care areas that have not only surgery wards, but specialized and very expensive equipment, including cyberknife/x-ray equipment to blast cancer areas, linear accelerators to generate particles for cancer treatments, specialized in-patient areas for treatment and care, infusion centers, etc. That’s one of the reasons that not every hospital has a specific oncology program.

So no, you can’t just go to the ER to deal with your breast cancer. Or prostate cancer. That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this works.

They’re designed to stabilize and treat trauma to a certain point, get people triaged for services elsewhere in the hospital, and to identify potential communicable disease outbreaks, among other things.

ERs do not provide oncology care. Period. Someone with cancer might get treated in an ER for issues relating to cancer - like falls, broken bones from mets (bone cancer), etc., but you’re not going to get cancer infusions or radiation treatment in the ER.

That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this fucking works.

I wish I still had the book here instead of filed away in storage, because there was a great section I can’t quite remember entirely that considered who benefited from distrust of government and the media, derided cooperation and empathy with others, and promoted nihilism and sociopathy as societal goals. Those are, after all, absolutely terrible things to promote, the exact opposite of a functioning society. IIRC, the problem with treating Narcissism is that it is hard to motivate the sufferers to submit to treatment which is going to be rough. And it goes for plain vanilla garden variety narcissism as well as group narcissism alike. Of course, it does happen people submit to treatment for narcissism, but it is often forced by external factors, such as losing ones liberty, kids or significant amount of moolah if they don’t.
I don’t know so much about the success rate of the available therapies against Narcissism though.

You weren’t generally going up against Cthulhu and Azathoth — the monsters were relatively rare — they weren’t besieging NYC or anything like that. The cults weren’t inbred backwoods goons — they were leading successful, near-mainstream new-age movements. The Mi-Go were behind the Roswell crash, just so they could get the US government to ignore their schemes in exchange for fancy technology. The British intelligence agencies were largely corrupted by the mind-controlling Insects from Shaggai.

New York’s crime scene was dominated by sorcerers, with an avatar of Nyarlathotep running things from the most exclusive nightclub in the city. The remnants of the Nazis were immortals fucking around with Lovecraft’s maddest science.

They even had a giant section in one of the later books devoted to surreal horror, if you wanted to run games built around the King in Yellow.

They’ve been working on a relaunch in recent years, to update their timeline to cover the War on Terror and suchlike. I haven’t been able to check those out yet, though…

Yes, this is why repetition is such a powerful tool, and why repeating the lie you’re trying to debunk is behavior to avoid as much as possible. Like, if one word is all it takes to completely change the sentence meaning (“3 million votes were NOT cast illegally”), that’s a sign it needs reframing in a big way (think of how many times you might have accidentally omitted the word NOT from a sentence, or typo’d it as NOW - prevent that from happening in the first place by framing in a positive way, e.g. “99.999999% of votes cast were entirely legit - the real problem is voter suppression”)

I definitely think the super speedy onslaught of so much damage is a feature of this, but tearing down is also the only thing they are good at. The other stuff - building up, governing, creating, objective analysis, collaborative action - is hard. These people are mediocre frauds and they know it.

It’s not only hard, but if they succeed in tearing down, it can take years and a huge financial investment to rebuild and recover from the damage that was done in a few days or less. Lost institutional memory often cannot be restored. You have to start from scratch.

The problem with buying any product is testing the delivered product to make sure it performs as specified.

An item may perform for what you initially tested, even if it did not use the exact part as specified.

The long term problem comes in often with reliability, or accuracy, or safety, etc.

But these things are far too complex for Trump.

The defense and intelligence community has been working on supply chain security for years. It’s a known problem, and there are mitigations. Unless you want to insource every possible chip for everything including laptops and Ethernet switches you are going to have to balance risk versus cost and technical feasibility. Nothing new here.
