Look Out, Here Come the Birthers Again, Led by “Malik Obama” and Drudge Report

Not this idiotic conspiracy theory again
Wingnuts • Views: 74,308

Birtherism. The right wing conspiracy theory that refuses to die, even when Barack Obama is no longer president. What can you even say about these lunatics at this point, except to note with sad amusement that the US right wing seems to be completely nuts.

The latest explosion of crazed Birtherism started with a tweet by “Malik Obama” (an account that many people, myself included, suspect is actually being run by white supremacist Chuck C. Johnson):

This “birth certificate” was debunked eight years ago. It’s a blatant fake. For starters, the date of birth is in US format: mm/dd/yyyy.

But who cares? Not the right wing Birther community, that’s for sure! Notice it has thousands of retweets and favorites.

And it’s being amplified by the biggest right wing megaphones on the web: Drudge Report and the Stupidest Man on the Internet.

And the frosting on this many-layered cake of idiocy: Jim Hoft, in his usual brainless fashion, tweeted the wrong address for that fake Malik Obama account.

The real question is: will Donald Trump take the bait and go on a 5 am rage-tweeting binge about this HUGE BREAKING NEWS? Stay tuned for further developments in right wing bad craziness.

Watching Rachel and just posted this in the now dead thread:

Rachel is getting interesting tonight. She is talking about how well coordinated the Wikileaks DNC emails were with Trump talking points and campaign cues. Timing of it all seems very well planned by the groups. She’s tying RT America, Roger Stone, the Trump campaign and Wikileaks all together. Who put them all together…Russia.

And now we have the CIA info on Wikileaks…and she is saying it is round 2 for Putin who not only hates the U.S. State Depart currently being tore up but hates the CIA.

Spy versus Spy. It’s a real Mad world isn’t it?

And she just asked if the Russian “campaign” against us over, or still in process? (She’s now in a break)

It is for those aware, but it’s good to see her continue it and now tie in the CIA stuff as a continuation of the Russian messing about to help change our government. The state department is being cut down, CIA is being looked at as a Trump enemy, so investigate and then blow them up too.

More people need to be told, and told again. This is all part of the need to stay on message to get Trump out ASAP and I am glad someone does get to keep bringing it up as long as she can. Who knows how long before Trump forces MSNBC to shut up people like Rachel?

Düsseldorf police spokesman Andre Hartwich said one suspect has been arrested and police were investigating the motive. Authorities identified the suspect as a 36-year-old man who lived in the city of Wuppertal, located about 20 miles from Düsseldorf. He originally moved to Germany from the former Yugoslavia and “apparently has mental issues,” according to a police statement released late Thursday night. Authorities did not name the suspect.

re: #175 majii

I don’t know whether the account is real or not, but I do know MO seems to hate BO. Old dude was personally invited to one of the Clinton/Trump debates by Trump and did declare that, “Trump can make America great again.” He reminds of my cousin, Alveda King, who I do not tell anyone I’m related to. AK has never seen a right-wing meme or idea she’d reject. Very few members of my family want anyone to know she’s related to them. My mom and Coretta Scott King were second cousins. CSK would attend our family reunions in Tuscaloosa, AL, which are held on even-numbered years.

Related to Coretta Scott King? Wow. As for Alveda King, if you are related to her I can see why you wouldn’t really want to associate with her much.

(My family doesn’t hold reunions because most of us don’t want to associate with each other, but that’s another story and doesn’t have to do with wingnuts.)

She decided to get on the Trump & Co. Bandwagon last year and only now realizes that there was a d*mn slow-burning fire under the wagon, that the fire has flared up and is in the bed of the wagon, heading towards her, and it is about to burn up her healthcare, along with the healthcare of all of his other supporters who depended upon the PPACA for affordable healthcare. She’s the second voter in two days who is sorry for having voted for Trump. The woman the LA Times covered in a story yesterday said she thought Trump’s talk about destroying the PPACA was only “bluster.” I don’t feel sorry for any of these tools, and I am not in the mood to listen to their whining. I’m too late to comment on the now-dead Pence thread, but I know a person who has convinced himself Pence would make a better President than Trump: a staunch Democrat who spent countless hours volunteering for Hillary’s campaign.

Our last conversation on this topic did not go well, as it consisted of me trying to convince him that Pence and Trump are equally dangerous (only in different ways) and him shaking his head “no”. He thinks Pence won’t have enough time to enact his extreme agenda, and will encounter strong opposition from what will (fingers crossed) at least be a blue Senate. Besides, he said, Pence at least is more stable, and likely won’t have Bannon whispering in his ear at all times.

I imagine the Republican Party would be much happier with Mike Pence. His agenda pretty much aligns with the GOP House and Senate.

Pence might not be as dangerous as Trump in the sense he isn’t trying to use Russia to undermine the USA (though there might be a question now since it seems just about everyone on Trump’s team is doing that), but he’d be every bit as dangerous to the populace with his evangelical Calvinist outlook (were Calvinists the original Objectivists?)

ICE detained a woman for a month, though she is a citizen.
huffingtonpost.com

The article starts

Elizabeth Hernandez-Carrillo was at home in Lilburn, Georgia, last month when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents stormed her building and arrested her in a raid, locking her in a detention center with the intention of deporting her to Mexico. But she insists she’s a U.S. citizen, even though she has faced a deportation order for several years.

Authorities eventually released her on Wednesday after she spent a month in detention, Hiba Ghalib, her attorney, told The Huffington Post.

The situation of Hernandez-Carrillo, a mother of four children, one of whom is a Marine, highlights the complex problems facing the immigration system.

She was born in Mexico and moved to the U.S. with her mother and stepfather ― a U.S. citizen ― when she was 10 years old, Ghalib said. Up until recently, Hernandez-Carrillo assumed she would remain a permanent resident through her stepfather, who legally adopted her after he married her mom. But she eventually discovered that her birth father was actually a citizen himself, making her eligible for citizenship.

I deal with brainwashed Trumpettes like that every day at work. I had to help one of my coworkers with a caller who drove her to tears. I got on the phone with that Trumpette and he was whining about having his Medicare premium deducted from his Social Security check. Idiot said, “Them N-WORDS” don’t have to pay that because of that “N-WORD” President”.

Then he uttered “I can’t wait for our new “Christ-Centered” President to send them “N-WORDS” back to Africa”.

All of which proves that ol’ LBJ told the truth about White Trash!

Oh brother, the Omarosa Manigault story gets even worse.
thedailybeast.com

There is no such position that Omarosa is claiming.

Several described their surprise at that meeting to see that Omarosa was not only present at the meeting, but appeared to be the most senior transition staff member attending, despite having no experience with either the VA or healthcare. Omarosa explained her qualifications by saying that she had once been a lieutenant chaplain with the California State Military Reserve.

“When Omarosa was introduced the room collectively gasped,” said one attendee, who asked to remain anonymous to avoid conflict with the White House. “There were people there missing limbs and she was once a chaplain with the militia.” Another in attendance said, “There was an obvious disconnect between that transition team and, at that point, New York.”

I read a comment over at Huffington Post on how a Democratic candidate won in Oklahoma (where every county went for Donald Trump).

huffingtonpost.com

Get a load of this quote from the article itself:

Democrats don’t have to throw out their values,” Maxwell insists. “Democrats don’t even have to abandon their issues. It’s about how you frame it. It’s about connecting with people and showing them how your ideas fit with their values.

This is what I was (at least trying) to say earlier, only to get reamed for it -_- Can’t for the life of me figure out why some people choose to look down their noses at proven effective marketing techniques. They’re tools and methods that, while traditionally associated with hoodwinking and deception, can also be used as a force for good.

Why is that so hard to understand and accept?

re: #125 Interesting Times

That’s pretty much it. Figuring out how to frame arguments is sometimes quite difficult, however.

For example, on the abortion issue, it really is a shame that the forced-birthers tried to seize the moral high-ground with the simple slogan “pro-life.” There is nothing pro-life about their position; it’s the liberal position that is pro-life (wanting every child to have a decent shot at health, education, safety, security, &c).

There is nothing pro-life about supporting the death penalty (the cognitive dissonance of that one amazes me).

LOL, a writer to my local paper has “the answer” to the political problem of trangenders and bathrooms.
starherald.com

More above at the link …

Among a group of friends recently, one spoke of a possible solution to the transgender issue of which toilet to use. His idea hearkened to our forefather’s era. His sagacious solution not only raised eyebrows. It prompted hearty laughter. He spoke of the antiquated out house. He expanded, “We all used the same out house then.” So therein lies a simple solution, all use the same bathrooms — with a lock on the door.

Perhaps this solution from Nebraska hay seeds may not reach the ears of Washington D.C. legislators, but here in the Good life, we certainly share a good laugh when the opportunity affords itself. In the unlikely event we do not resort to the tried and true use of the trusty outhouse, we must consider heavy snowfalls. How would we open the door with heavy snow piled against the door? Again, we learn from our ancestors. Double-decker outhouses with one door above the ground floor works well. One walks on deep snow, opens the top door, then contemplates merits of the universe inside and searches for the Montgomery Wards catalogue. Of course, we’d have the added expense of two locks for each outhouse.

What I don’t get is why bring up this birth certificate shit *again*, with a copy of the bc that’s already been used and debunked repeatedly, with Obama two months out of office? These people — and I believe Charles is correct in saying Chuckie J is running the Malik Obama Twitter account — are just obsessed with Obama. Like he lives in their heads as some sort of supernatural entity.

Rage Furby (or whoever @obamamalik really is) could be just trolling everyone for the lulz. Or it could be an effort to discredit Obama yet again, since Trump is convinced BHO tried to sabotage his campaign somehow and is trying to sabotage his administration. Ever since Ted Cruz turned out to be an also-ran, Rage Furby jumped onto the Trump train in hero-worship mode, so he could be trying to curry favor with The Donald.

Or I’m overthinking all this, and the person running the account is a total idiot.

Relevant to the post downstairs: Adam Khan says Manafort picked Pence for a reason.

I wasn’t able to join the Pence as president debate, because it happened while I was sleeping then teaching. So here’s my two cents a bit late.

Choosing between Trump or Pence is like deciding which is better: being eaten by a lion or by a tiger. Trump is a loose cannon, who has basically handed off the day-to-day operations of the WH to Bannon, Miller and the other appointees. His only apparent input to date have been early morning tweets and photo ops when he signs an EO or meets people in the Oval Office. If he does anything behind the scenes besides fuss and fume, I’d be surprised. The danger with Trump is the possibility of a serious international incident, started by him or unwittingly encouraged by him. Meanwhile, he will willingly sign whatever BS lands in front of him, because (a) he probably blind as a bat (b) he doesn’t read too good and (c) he doesn’t fucking care what he signs, as long as it’s photographed. So, Bannon can slip him EO after EO and Congress can send him RWNJ bill after bill, and he’ll sign them into law, because he thinks that’s all a president has to do.

Pence, OTOH, is a career politician. He knows what the presidency can do, and how politics works, and he would be more dangerous on the homefront given his Xianist tendencies and general stupidity. If he was selected for the express purpose of succeeding Trump, as Khan suggests, then the Trump team figures Pence will be a team player and continue the same destruction of the federal government already in progress. There is a slim chance that, freed of Trump’s management, Pence might grow a spine and kick Bannon, Miller, Conway and Spicer to the curb. He might prefer to have smoothly functioning WH instead of a roomful of rabid monkeys, which means Pence could really enact his agenda, whatever that might be.

Either way, we’re fucked.

re: #190 wheat-dogg

We’re not necessarily fucked (as you colourfully put it).

Pence has his own E-mail problems back home in Indiana (real ones, not the made-up crap about Hillary Clinton).

Before Nixon was taken down (partly by his own party, even if it was only to save their party and not for the good of the country), Agnew got taken down first by the Maryland AG.

As evidence piles up against Pence in Indiana, we might see the same thing happen.

Aside from his E-mail problems, there is also the Russia problem: The Nixonian question comes to mind naturally to anyone with access to the news about Russia/Trump/Page/Manafort/&c — what did Pence know and when did he know it?

Even if Pence survived, I’m betting so much political capital would be expended trying to save him that he would be politically hobbled.

That said, I ain’t stupid, so I wouldn’t turn my back on him or trust him any further than I could throw a car.

And in reality: Trump has accomplished almost nothing. “I don’t care about the Russians” because I don’t give a damn about my own country. “Muslims, but Sharia bad,” Christian Sharia just fine. “Tweets refreshing” I suppose if you want to start a trade war or a shooting war - betcha she doesn’t care about how many of our military (or other nation’s military or civilians) as long as she can wave a flag and tell veterans “thank you for your service.”

On the last, I have shifted from my usual response when someone tells me that - Thank you for allowing me to serve - to a new answer: Please tell your congressman not to make any more Gold Star Families - that would honour “my service” much better.

His charity:
barackhobamafoundation.org

Charity Navigator:
charitynavigator.org

It is based in Alexandria, Virginia.

Why isn’t this organization rated?

This organization is not eligible to be rated by Charity Navigator because it is not required to file the full IRS Form 990. It is required to file a form 990-N. This form provides some information, but it lacks the level of data we require to issue a rating. Visit the Methodology section of our site to learn about our criteria for evaluating charities.

What does it mean that this organization isn’t rated?

It simply means that the organization doesn’t meet our criteria. A lack of a rating does not indicate a positive or negative assessment by Charity Navigator.

David Brooks is blaming Obama for Trumps win.

The Republican Health Care Crackup

…First, the crisis of opportunity. People with fewer skills were seeing their wages stagnate, the labor markets evaporate. Second, the crisis of solidarity. The social fabric, especially for those without a college degree, was disintegrating — marriage rates plummeting, opiate abuse rates rising. Third, the crisis of authority. Distrust in major institutions crossed some sort of threshold. People had so lost trust in government, the media, the leadership class in general, that they were willing to abandon truth and decorum and embrace authoritarian thuggery to blow it all up.

If President Obama had made these crises the center of his administration, instead of the A.C.A., Democrats wouldn’t have lost Congress and the White House. If the Tea Party had understood the first two of these crises, there would have been no opening for Donald Trump.

Trump came along and exploited these crises. But if his administration’s health care approach teaches us anything, it is that he has no positive agenda for addressing them. He can tap into working class anxiety negatively, by harnessing hostility toward immigrants, foreigners and the poor. But he can’t come up with a positive agenda to make working class life more secure.

Greets and saluts from the snowy NYC metro area where we’re actually battening down the hatches for the below normal temps for the upcoming week and a potential Nor’easter on Tuesday that early indication suggests a significant snowfall. Super.

Also super: all the assholes who decided that they’d cast their first vote for Trump, not realizing that Obamacare is the same fucking thing as the ACA. Or that the GOP would turn around and gut Medicaid and the safety net the first chance they got. Or that the GOP would seek to gut FEMA, USCG, EPA, and FDA the first chance they got.

Everywhere you’re turning the GOP agenda is ringing loud and clear. Even if Trump has no clue what he’s doing, the people he’s turning these agencies over to are dangerous and intend to do as much damage as possible in as short a time as possible.

How to resist? Start by getting out and voting. And yet we have evidence that people still don’t get it. Turnout was astonishingly low in Los Angeles earlier this week.

The GOP will have no problem retaining Congress if voter apathy strikes again next year. And if they do that, then Trump’s chances of getting impeached for his countless violations of his oath of office, starting with the Emoluments clause, diminish to nothing since the GOP doesn’t care so long as their cherished goal of gutting the safety net so that the rich can keep all of their income tax free.

The #GOPDontCare tax cuts are only the first step of Ryan’s tax plan to give the rich all the tax cuts they could ever wish for, all while the burdens fall even harder on those who can’t afford them.

That’s the fucking plan. They’ve telegraphed it. And GOP voters don’t care, because they somehow think that these tax cuts help them. Ignorant? Delusional? Fact-free? Complicit? Take your pick.

Democrats have to get their house in order, but they too are plagued by infighting, and while the DNC is now set at the top, it remains to be seen if they can get an all districts matter all votes matter effort going in short order.

So, if you’ve got a flood insurance policy, GOP floating idea of a surcharge on those policy holders so that they can pay for the fucking Mexico wall. Yeah, you read that right.

Instead of using a surcharge to help make sure that the flood insurance program is solvent, or using the surcharge to help mitigate flood insurance risk by buying up threatened properties or building mitigation or prevention structure, they want to dump all this money on the Trump wall boondoggle.

Consider that if the city of Hoboken, which is about a square mile in size, had a seawall and other flood mitigation/prevention systems in place before Sandy, it could have prevented more than a billion dollars worth of damage to the city alone (including lost revenues due to transit disruptions) - and hundreds of millions more in damage to the PATH system. Same with other seaside communities.

GOP dumbfuckery:

Yeah, I had to read that again. These GOP fuckers don’t even know how cancer care is done. If you think cancer can be treated in an ER you have to have had been born with rectal cranial inversion.

Hospitals simply can’t treat cancer in an ER. Oncology wings are specialized care areas that have not only surgery wards, but specialized and very expensive equipment, including cyberknife/x-ray equipment to blast cancer areas, linear accelerators to generate particles for cancer treatments, specialized in-patient areas for treatment and care, infusion centers, etc. That’s one of the reasons that not every hospital has a specific oncology program.

So no, you can’t just go to the ER to deal with your breast cancer. Or prostate cancer. That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this works.

Combine that with HHS honco Price’s stunning dumbassery of his own:

Or Grey’s Anatomy. Or even Emergency! Heck, any show that portrays a hospital identifies how care in the ER works. They’re designed to stabilize and treat trauma to a certain point, get people triaged for services elsewhere in the hospital, and to identify potential communicable disease outbreaks, among other things.

ERs do not provide oncology care. Period. Someone with cancer might get treated in an ER for issues relating to cancer - like falls, broken bones from mets (bone cancer), etc., but you’re not going to get cancer infusions or radiation treatment in the ER.

re: #255 HappyWarrior

The last place that someone with cancer wants to be is the ER.
1) That means that whatever cancer they’ve got is so bad that it’s causing serious issues (like falls, secondary health issues like breathing/heart issues, etc., that suggest mets or organ failure, etc); and
2) ERs do not provide cancer treatments. Period. It’s a holding place until a room upstairs opens up where they can provide those treatments.

There is no 3.

Believe me, I’ve seen this up close and personal too many times to count.

re: #191 Anymouse

If we want to drag out this Nixon parallel, then the DT tax returns are the equivalent of the White House tapes…

If DT is smart, he will do what Bush did with the documents about his no-show stint with the Air National Guard, namely to “leak” some forged but authentic-looking documents which they can later discredit and send the whole discussion off into a pointless tailspin that will take years/decades to sort out…

Breathe. Take a moment every so often to think of something else, maybe something pleasant and then go back to thinking how you go about dealing with the depressing news.

Good advice. Hard to do, but it is good advice.

And I do believe this is a large part of the Bannon plan…the blitzkrieg. Throw so much change, cutting staffs and cutting programs so fast there is no way to keep up on it all. There are not enough groups, committees, organizations, lobby groups to keep up with it as it all is burnt down.

Arguably, Cthulhu would approve of TrumpCare, as it means the “stars are right” to herald His return. Let’s go to the source:

Then, whispered Castro, those first men formed the cult around small idols which the Great Ones shewed them; idols brought in dim aeras from dark stars. That cult would never die till the stars came right again, and the secret priests would take great Cthulhu from His tomb to revive His subjects and resume His rule of earth. The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom. Meanwhile the cult, by appropriate rites, must keep alive the memory of those ancient ways and shadow forth the prophecy of their return.

An accomplished, international human rights lawyer delivered a potent call for action at the United Nations on Thursday, urging the organization to back an investigation into crimes committed by the Islamic State in Iraq.

“I am speaking to you, the Iraqi government, and to you, U.N. member states, when I ask: Why? Why has nothing been done?” Amal Clooney, the British-Lebanese barrister who represents victims of Islamic State rapes and kidnappings, said.

She implored Iraq and the world’s nations, using another name for the Islamic State: “Don’t let ISIS get away with genocide.”

It was a day after International Women’s Day, and a renowned female lawyer was giving a powerful speech addressing one of the world’s most pressing humanitarian threats.

But a number of headlines seemed to focus elsewhere: her baby bump. And her daffodil-yellow dress and matching coat. Oh, and in case anyone forgot, she’s married to Hollywood movie star George Clooney.

There’s an excellent old RPG from about 20 years back called “Delta Green,” which was basically a modern-day setting for “Call of Cthulhu” with a focus on government conspiracies and black-ops missions against the monsters of the Mythos — basically, “Call of Cthulhu” for the “X-Files” era.

I wish I still had the book here instead of filed away in storage, because there was a great section I can’t quite remember entirely that considered who benefited from distrust of government and the media, derided cooperation and empathy with others, and promoted nihilism and sociopathy as societal goals. Those are, after all, absolutely terrible things to promote, the exact opposite of a functioning society. Who, they wondered, who would benefit from mankind becoming “free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and revelling in joy.”

IIRC, the problem with treating Narcissism is that it is hard to motivate the sufferers to submit to treatment which is going to be rough. And it goes for plain vanilla garden variety narcissism as well as group narcissism alike. Of course, it does happen people submit to treatment for narcissism, but it is often forced by external factors, such as losing ones liberty, kids or significant amount of moolah if they don’t.
I don’t know so much about the success rate of the available therapies against Narcissism though.

Sounds quite interesting; I’ve never heard of it until now.

It was really pretty amazing. A bit more adult in scope than standard Call of Cthulhu games. You weren’t generally going up against Cthulhu and Azathoth — the monsters were relatively rare — they weren’t besieging NYC or anything like that. The cults weren’t inbred backwoods goons — they were leading successful, near-mainstream new-age movements. The Mi-Go were behind the Roswell crash, just so they could get the US government to ignore their schemes in exchange for fancy technology. The British intelligence agencies were largely corrupted by the mind-controlling Insects from Shaggai.

New York’s crime scene was dominated by sorcerers, with an avatar of Nyarlathotep running things from the most exclusive nightclub in the city. The remnants of the Nazis were immortals fucking around with Lovecraft’s maddest science.

They even had a giant section in one of the later books devoted to surreal horror, if you wanted to run games built around the King in Yellow.

They’ve been working on a relaunch in recent years, to update their timeline to cover the War on Terror and suchlike. I haven’t been able to check those out yet, though…

Yes, this is why repetition is such a powerful tool, and why repeating the lie you’re trying to debunk is behavior to avoid as much as possible. Like, if one word is all it takes to completely change the sentence meaning (“3 million votes were NOT cast illegally”), that’s a sign it needs reframing in a big way (think of how many times you might have accidentally omitted the word NOT from a sentence, or typo’d it as NOW - prevent that from happening in the first place by framing in a positive way, e.g. “99.999999% of votes cast were entirely legit - the real problem is voter suppression”)

The companies with whom the US DoD contracts with for these parts are always looking for maximizing their profits, and some of this may enable the counterfeit parts to enter the product supply chain.

Counterfeit is not necessarily “fake” though.

The problem with buying any product is testing the delivered product to make sure it performs as specified.

An item may perform for what you initially tested, even if it did not use the exact part as specified.

The long term problem comes in often with reliability, or accuracy, or safety, etc.

But these things are far too complex for Trump.

This is actually the finding from a Senate report that found counterfeit parts made their way into the supply chain because companies source their parts from all over the world.

So Trump actually found something factually accurate. Broken clock moment.

The defense and intelligence community has been working on supply chain security for years. It’s a known problem, and there are mitigations. Unless you want to insource every possible chip for everything including laptops and Ethernet switches you are going to have to balance risk versus cost and technical feasibility. Nothing new here.
