So, checking the forecasts, it looks like Tuesday’s Noreaster is going to be a big one.

Probability maps suggest 90-100% certainty of 12+ inches across a significant portion of the NYC metro area from northern NJ into lower Hudson Valley to CT and including significant parts of NYC proper.

Most of the forecasts are saying 12+ inches, though a few forecasts are suggesting 1-2 feet.

The key will be temperatures. If it’s cold enough, then you get a lighter-weight snowfall with greater accumulations. If it’s warmer, it could be less accumulation, but could mean more downed trees because the snow is heavier.

Either way, it’s gonna be a mess.

Good thing that Trump’s preliminary budget is going to shred the NOAA, EPA, and FEMA.

Because we don’t need to know weather/climate changes, protecting water/air quality, and disaster response.

I differentiated because the forecasts were looking at different things.

The probability forecast was for 12 inches plus. It didn’t have a higher accumulation total probability whereas the forecasts being put together by local forecasters were setting a range.

I usually always sear them stovetop before the long braise in the oven. I’m thinking about trying the oven broiling method instead of the sear; then braise as usual.

I’ve seen it done a lot on TV with great results, but they were always restaurant-grade ovens.

Pollster is a polling aggregator, like Real Clear Politics, but unlike RCP, it allows you to create your own data in a number of different ways. For example, when looking at Trump’s overall approval numbers, I take out Rasmussen because they are a ridiculous outlier (they’ve always had a steep GOP lean, but with Trump it’s almost off the charts).

I created this particular chart by taking out all but Republicans, whether in the “adult,” “registered voters,” and “likely voters.” I also reduced the smoothing.

Any way you slice it, what does it tell you that Trump - TRUMP - has such a high approval rating amongst his own party. From what I understand, none of his recent predecessors could boast numbers like that.

I’ve been known to jump and scramble when I heard one rattle, but I’ve also been known to creep closer for a better look. I’m not good enough at IDing anything without a rattle.

Pro tips:

A snake can only strike half its length. A BIG Copperhead is 4’ long. From three feet away, you can easily see if a snake has cat eyes or round pupils. All indigenous poisonous snakes have vertical slits EXCEPT for the Coral Snake. Then it’s “red touch yellow, kill a fellow, red touch black, friend of Jack.”

Snake venom is largely hemotoxic in the US. Think of it as extremely strong Drano. It blows cell walls to pieces. Coral Snake venom is neurotoxic, like a cobra’s. It stops your autonomic nervous system, killing you by suffocation. A couple of rattler species, like the Mojave Green, have hemotoxic venom with a smaller neurotoxic component.

Many non-poisonous snakes rattle their tails when disturbed. A big Rat Snake can sound as loud as a rattlesnake if it is on dry forest duff.

The Hognose Snake can spread its neck ribs like a cobra and make a really loud hiss. If that doesn’t work, it’ll roll over and play dead.

The only really mean indigenous poisonous snakes are the Timber Rattlesnake and the Water Moccasin (aka Cottonmouth). Most others, especially Copperheads will get away from as you fast as they can.

I thought the human reactions to the Arrival felt very real. Empty classrooms, people running, glued to their media sources, etc. And I enjoyed the FILTHY LIBURL HOLLYWOD jibes at Fox and lunatic media. :)

I saw it with friends at the local small theater a week before the oscars - they make it a point to watch all the nominated films every year, and I tagged along - and we all felt that the big turn in the story at the end was disappointing. I liked all the communicating-with-aliens stuff, but the metaphysical wrap-up was disjointed and not in the spirit of the first 3/4ths of the story IMO.

Still good overall, though.

I’ve been thinking that the reason Ryan & Co. wrote their bill so that the damaging, life-destroying effects don’t begin in 2018 is to protect their seats in midterm elections. This way, they can claim to have fulfilled their pledge to destroy the PPACA while not mentioning that many of those who vote for them in 2018 will lose their healthcare coverage after November 2018.

These small colleges often get very high reviews.

But I wonder how the young people do, living in the country?

If you’re wondering how they stay sane and stuff, my oldest is doing pretty well. He’s close enough to Des Moines to go in there for some of the bigger things. Indianola, while not huge by Dallas standards, has it’s own movie theater, two grocery stores, and a number of restaurants. Looking at Grinnell, the town, it looks like they have similar options. And I just found an incentive for my son: There’s a comic book store right off campus.

Edit: My oldest managed to stay sane enough that he’s going into the University of Kentucky PhD program in the fall, and they’re paying him. I am so jealous.

The only other cost would be the ER admission fee of 350 SEK ($42-ish).
So. $64 total.

As opposed to the $53.22 I paid last Tuesday to see a PA for a diabetes checkup. And I have insurance. Yes, I was shocked. I haven’t seen the bill come through my insurance so I can’t figure out why it’s so much. I went ahead and paid it because I know the front end women don’t have any control over what my insurance will pay or how the copay is handled.

I know what you’re talking about. I also have diabetes and a few other serious medical conditions which means I have to see several doctors. Every time I go to have my diabetes checked, the co-pay is $68.00. This sometimes happens twice a month. My primary care doctor wants to make sure I don’t have to have heart surgery like my mom had to have due to her diabetes or have to go on dialysis like my older brother did due to his diabetes. The reason my co-pay is as high as it is is because the GOPers, who control the state government here in GA, won’t lift one finger to help make any type of insurance more affordable in the state. They love themselves some insurance lobbyists and take advantage of every free anything they offer to them.

None of these things matter any longer. Trump reps have said many times that he can do anything he d*mn well pleases, and none of us has the right to question him. If PBO had done something like this, GOPers in Congress would have vilified him, then, they would have sued him, but they remain eerily silent when Trump does sh*t they know is wrong.

In Denmark, the bill would be 0. Hospital stays and ER admissions are paid for by our taxes. I am actually surprised that you have charges for these kind of things in Sweden.
